love on top. all-white styling for a chic wedding at great john street, manchester – sarah & chris

May 5th, 2017 | Laura McDonagh

A Chic Wedding at Great John Street Hotel Manchester (c) Delicious Photography (45)

Sarah and Chris’ chic city wedding was held at the stunningly eclectic Great John Street Hotel in Manchester. They wanted a laidback day that was big on personal touches and low on formality and, by Jove, they got it.

Their photographs prompted a strange, hybrid emotion in the Brides Up North team. A smidgen of envy, a touch of nostalgia, and more than a little bit of excitement for long, hazy summer days and barbecue season on the horizon.

Ladies, please. Check out that classic hourglass dress, that gypsophila headband and those perfectly #bridesquad personalised sliders and tell us you don’t feel your heart tremble.

sarah says: Our engagement was just brilliant. As we’d been together for 12 years, I thought it wouldn’t happen; Chris had planned a normal Christmas Day morning with lots of presents so that I wouldn’t suspect a thing. Later, we went for Christmas dinner with my family. We were all sitting there and he made an announcement in front of them all. It was a such special moment and totally not us. My granddad was poorly at the time so it was extra special and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

We were married on 14th October 2016, we were desperate to get married in the same year. Great John Street, our chosen venue, was booked up but we managed to get a cancellation.

We had our hearts set on Great John Street in Manchester city centre from the beginning. It’s a 5* eclectic hotel, with stunning décor that matches my style exactly. We had a simple brief: we wanted live music all day and no sit-down formal table plan. We ended up having a barbecue on the roof terrace and it was perfect for us.

Our theme was pretty relaxed. I had one décor specification and that was lots and lots of flowers and candles. We had a photo booth that our friends set up for a giggle and got our wish of live music all day long.

Colour-wise, I went for white. However, we also chose a dusky tan for the bridesmaid dresses and my dress also had a faint tan/pink coloured underlay.

I chose a very fitted dress with a classic hourglass shape from Adele Howarth-Winstanley Bride in Upper Mill. To me, the lace created a vintage feel about it and I was desperate to find a dress that had a hint of colour.

Chris wore French navy tails, from Best Man with a mustard waistcoat, navy polka dot tie, a handkerchief and a pocket watch.

The groomsmen’s suits were similar to Chris’, also from Best Man. The bridesmaids’ dresses were from ASOS and were long, dusky-coloured, high-neck pleated gowns.

pastels & petals. a beautifully traditional wedding in the north west – liz & andy

September 6th, 2016 | Julia Braime

A Pretty and Traditional Wedding in the North West (c) Lee Brown Photography (64)

It’s only Wednesday and already we’ve seen so much pretty on the blog this week. And we hope you’re prepared for even more of the good stuff as this morning we’re sharing the gorgeous big day of newlyweds, Liz and Andy.

Deciding on a relaxed and traditional wedding with a pretty pastel colour scheme, today’s bride and groom opted for a church ceremony followed by a hotel reception, complete with elegant décor.

Though subtle, the result is a stunning celebration with everything from the wedding party’s attire to the beautiful blooms and classic transport tying together perfectly!

With images by Brides Up North Sponsor Lee Brown Photography.

liz says: We got engaged on 1st March 2014. I had been at home all day cleaning whilst Andy was out refereeing. I had put tea in the oven and had a shower, put my onesie on and was laid on the sofa watching Ant and Dec’s Saturday night takeaway. Andy came in the room, switched the TV off and passed me an empty egg box. In each hole was a little note and in the final one was a plastic egg with a ring in. He got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him.

We set the date for 23rd July 2016. We were looking for a date at the end of July as my sister had her GCSEs so we wanted them to be over in time and this date was also suitable for both the church and reception venue. It wasn’t until I told my mum the date that we realised that my grandparents had got married on the same date in 1955, exactly 61 years ago. It then seemed like fate that we should get married on that day.

A Pretty and Traditional Wedding in the North West (c) Lee Brown Photography (9)

Our ceremony was at St Mary’s Church in Partington. My parents had been married there in 1988 and it is where my grandad’s ashes are so it’s close to our hearts. Our reception was held at The Deanwater Hotel in Woodford, Cheshire. Andy used to work there and it suited our needs perfectly. We had a number of guests travelling from afar and there were enough rooms for people to stay the night before and the night of the wedding. We had a large number of guests and the hotel was big enough to cater for us all without it feeling too busy.

We decided to have a traditional wedding with a pastel colour scheme. We are quite a traditional couple and this style was simple but effective. We wanted the day to feel relaxed, nothing too ‘in your face’ and it worked perfectly. The pastels were lovely and soft and worked well as we had quite a lot of guests and didn’t want anything too bright in the reception venue which may look too much. Also, I have an English rose complexion and so the pastel colours tend to suit me really well.

A Pretty and Traditional Wedding in the North West (c) Lee Brown Photography (47)

When it came to my dress I picked a princess style design. I tried on more than 30 dresses, all different styles, and liked most of them. When I tried this dress on I cried, then my mum cried and I knew I wanted to get married wearing it. The dress was from Agape Bridal Boutique and the staff there were fantastic. They added a bit of sparkle for me and did the alterations in-house. I felt a million dollars when I tried it on and the morning of the wedding, I was speechless as to how beautiful it looked and felt.

Andy picked an unusual checked three-piece suit with tails (which was gorgeous) for him and the groomsmen. We then picked the cravats and waistcoats to match the bridesmaid dresses, which were a lovely pastel blue. As a surprise to the boys, I bought them all pastel blue socks to wear too! The suits were from Best Man in Great Moor, again, the staff there were brilliant.

I found the bridesmaid dresses online at Mix Bridal. I could choose the exact colour I wanted and they were beautiful dresses, they all looked absolutely stunning. I had a family friend make alterations so they would fit perfectly.

true romance. a pretty pink wedding in greater manchester – kinga & andy

July 3rd, 2015 | Julia Braime

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (58)

Happy Friday Brides Up North! Today we’re heading North West to the town of Sale in Greater Manchester for Kinga and Andy’s summer wedding.

The loved-up couple picked their local registry office as their ceremony venue due to its lovely architectural features followed by a reception at the nearby Belmore Hotel.

We love all the pretty touches in this wedding, including the bride’s stunning shower bouquet, the simple centrepieces and those cute pink and white bridesmaid dresses, which all help to achieve Kinga’s goal of a romantic, sophisticated and perfectly pink wedding day!

With images by Ginger & Lime Photography.

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (2)

kinga says: We got engaged on 31st October 2011 during a romantic dinner at home. We fancied a summer wedding and so set the date for 14th June 2014.

We got married in Sale Registry Office as it was the closest registry office to us and it’s a lovely venue. Our reception was at The Belmore Hotel, which is also in Sale.

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (15)

We chose to have a romantic, sophisticated style for our wedding with a colour scheme of very light pink and white.

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (12)

I wore a traditional, strapless wedding dress in ivory, with a long veil. I got it from Wed2Be in Bolton. It was a beautiful dress, and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. It was the first dress I tried on and it was perfect!

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (38)

My bridesmaids wore a dress that we picked together from Oasis, it was a really gorgeous colour. On the wedding day had our hair and makeup done by Urmston Health and Beauty.

Andy chose a grey suit with white tie and shirt, which he hired it from a shop called Best Man based in Sale. The groomsmen also hired their matching suits from Best Man.

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (36)

On the wedding day we travelled in a beautiful Mercedes C-Class driven by Andy’s boss at the time. He offered us the ride as we hadn’t booked a wedding car as the venue and the registry office weren’t too far from each other.

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (43)

Our photographer was Szilvia Csoma of Ginger & Lime Photography, who I found on Facebook. We met up and discussed the wedding. As an experienced photographer she gave us lots of advice and many options to choose from. We did an additional pre-wedding photo shoot with Szilvia as well, which was lots of fun and she got to know us. We would highly recommend her to anyone because her pictures are amazing, she’s a lovely person to get on with and the price of the service is friendly on the pocket.

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (50)

I carried a shower style white rose wedding bouquet, which was provided by Little Flower Room based Stretford.

For our reception we used fake white rose bouquets in champagne style glasses and candles for decoration. The Belmore had its own contracted decorator called Martin, who provided all the white chair covers and satin bows for the chairs and did the decoration with his team. I ordered some bits and bobs for the reception from Amazon.co.uk which I would recommend brides take a look at as I found some brilliant wedding items on there at reasonable prices.

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (49)

Our favours were heart shaped lemon flavoured shortbreads with white icing that simply said ‘thank you’.

We had a ‘wonky’ wedding cake. It was three tiers (two chocolate and one fruit) covered with white icing and a bride and groom on the top. It was made by my mother-in-law’s friends who like to bake as a hobby.

The wedding breakfast was divine! Our friend, the Belmore’s head chef Jake Parkes, helped us put a classy menu together. We had two different starters, mains and desserts, so our guests could pre-pick what they have wanted.

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (56)

To keep guests entertained at the reception we hired The Belmore’s contracted DJ who happily played music that we had picked out.

We would definitely recommend The Belmore Hotel to other couples. The venue itself is beautiful and cosy and the food and the drinks are divine! The staff are also very lovely and helpful.

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (62)

My favourite part of the day would most probably be saying ‘I do’ to my husband. I just couldn’t wait to be his wife, as I love him to bits! He is the best guy ever!

A Romantic Wedding In Greater Manchester (c) Csomaphoto (55)

We went on honeymoon to Crete in Greece in September. It was wonderful, chilling all day on the beach or by the pool and eating delicious cuisine. We found out just before our honeymoon that I was pregnant so it was another reason to unwind and celebrate.

My top tips to other Brides Up North would be to start organising and saving money on time as the date will come in a blink of an eye! Also have a little notepad on hand and take lots of notes, make sure you’ve got everything covered down to the finest detail, make sure you have explored all the best options which are out there and compare prices. Finally, always discuss everything with your partner and work as a team.

Suited & Booted! Supplier Showcase: Sensational Formal Hire

May 10th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

I’m recovering after an excellent night at the Brides Up North Tweet Up North East yesterday evening – more on this later – but before we move on a  massive thank you to the wonderful North East wedding industry for coming out in force and making it so special.  You are absolute stars!

.

.

303414_400536786657024_182090755168296_1260607_740181337_n[1]522889_400538769990159_182090755168296_1260705_1734751174_n[1]

More from the Limelight Hire Photobooth shortly…

.

.

After the success of last night’s event, and a super inspiring meeting this morning about a future very special project for the Brides Up North brand, I feel ready to take on the World! (See, I haven’t just been sleeping off a hangover!).

.

It’s onwards and upwards today as we meet another star, Brides Up North Featured Supplier John of Sensational Formal Hire, to get those grooms suited and booted.

.

.   Sensational Formal Hire

.

.

When did Sensational Formal Hire open?

.

We opened in June 2009. I have a varied, colourful background that has always been based on excellent people skills. I have worked for transport companies, oil companies, ran social clubs and been a full time Union Official. I have at times managed up to 75 petrol tanker drivers and done things others would not believe. My wife at Elegance Bridal Studio, Barnsley had planted the seed around five years ago, however until 2009 I had visions of Mr Grace and "I’m Free" and did not fancy the opportunity.

.

.

What lines of menswear do you stock?

.

I stock Cameron Ross Menswear and Highlandwear which are the hire products and I sell suits by Torre and Lloyd Atree & Smith. The shoes I sell are by Loake, however they are sold to order at a Barnsley price. Cameron Ross are the market leaders in hirewear and cannot be beaten on quality in my opinion. The suits I sell are good quality, value for money and start from £140.

.

Accessories wise, I stock waistcoats, ruches, ties, dickie’s, cumberbunds and cufflinks. I pride myself on being able to offer any colour ruche to compliment the bride’s colour theme. I also do a great line in Groom, Best Man, Father of the Bride and so on matching cufflinks and socks, which my customers enjoy at a discounted rate.

.

.

Sensational Formal Hire   Sensational Formal Hire

.

.

We hear that won an award recently?

.

Yes I did, it was a great honour bestowed upon me and I am now officially the best at what I do. I won the Best Wedding Menswear Supplier Award for the North East and the whole of England at this year’s Wedding Industry Awards. However, my feet are firmly on the ground and I know I have only set the standard.  I do intend to raise it though. As the award was based on customer feedback, what my customers had to say was not only invaluable to the judges, but more importantly invaluable to me. There were some great comments, I did not realise the difference I make to peoples’ weddings. All feedback has been evaluated appropriately and has been acted upon.

.

.

Where are you based?  What if a member of the wedding party lives elsewhere?

.

I am based in Barnsley, which surprisingly is in the centre of the country. I am in a town centre location 50 yards from the Transport Interchange. If members of the wedding party live in other areas they too can be supplied using Cameron Ross’ Roaming Wearer service. I have supplied customers who have sent their details from Australia, South Africa, Singapore, Ireland, Dubai, Hong Kong and Spain. I have supplied suits for weddings in Poland, Malta and Cyprus.

.

.

What about the price?

.

As I deal in quality and excellent customer service, I am not the cheapest. However, why chance your photographs being ruined for the sake of an extra £10 per suit? Prices are based upon a customer’s individual requirements and tailored to their needs.

.

.

Sensational Formal Hire

.

.

Do we need an appointment?

.

Yes, I work by appointment only. This is due to there only being me here and more importantly the customer then has my undivided attention during their initial two hour appointment. I offer appointments Tuesday to Saturday until 8pm and Sundays if the need arises. As most of my customers work, evenings and Saturdays do get booked quickly.

.

.

What can brides and grooms who come to visit your showroom expect?

.

They can expect to receive the friendliest and warmest Northern welcome available. They will be invited to sit down and then be offered refreshment (also Northern style). Everything will be explained, I shall be attentive to their needs and offer honest and expert advice. I offer a stress free and no nonsense approach that cannot be matched.  Enjoying themselves is all part of the experience.

.

The feedback I receive is that I am a breath of fresh air within the Industry and I don’t just get the one time customer, my grooms all return time and time again to hire suits for other social occasions such as a day at the races, so that they can again enjoy my famous “Sensational Service”.  Sensational Formal Hire is only three years old in June and the amount of recommendations I receive from my customers proves that I genuinely care that my customers look their best on their big day.

.

.

Are any styles particularly popular?

.

Some outfits, styles and colours look better on some than others. I would not suggest a 4 foot 6, 15 stone man to order a tailcoat outfit and I would not put someone in something if it did not suit them or look right. I do not have a particular type of customer, most are honest, straightforward, uncomplicated northerners, who appreciate the service that I strive to provide.  In conclusion, my favourite look is what will look best on the groom and all groom’s are different.  Navy and Silver are fashionable at the moment, as is any form of Grey.

.

.

Sensational Formal Hire

.

.

Are you married?

.

Yes I am married, we got married in Cyprus in June 2006 and there was a heat wave! I was married in a pair of linen trousers, a cotton shirt and a silk waistcoat with matching ruche. When I do it again (we are to renew our vows in 2016) I shall wear sun factor 75 and the biggest hat I can find! Seriously though, the most lightweight trousers available, another 100% cotton shirt and whatever else my wife wants me to put on.

.

.

How can wedding blog readers get in touch with you?

.

and on 01226 321 117.  You can also find us on Facebook.
