a modern love. pronovias for a contemporary wedding at the baltic – jayne & keith

A Modern Wedding at The Baltic (c) Andy Hudson Photography (39)

And breathe, for Friday has arrived once again! To celebrate the impending weekend we’re starting the day in style with the gorgeous real wedding of Jayne and Keith.

Picking Newcastle’s iconic Baltic Flour Mill building as the venue for their big day celebrations, the happy couple kept things modern & minimalistic in terms of their colour scheme and styling, which worked a treat with the artistic surroundings.

We just love a city centre wedding and we have to say, this one is a real beauty!

jayne says: We got engaged on 31st August 2014, while in Pefkos, Rhodes. Pefkos was the place that Keith and I had our very first holiday just the two of us. After a few years of visiting other places Keith was adamant that he wanted to go back, so we did. On our first night of the holiday Keith took me to our favourite restaurant, a celebration he said that we hadn’t been on holiday for a year or two and to start the holiday the way we meant to go on.

We sat down at what was possibly the nicest table in the restaurant, overlooking the beach with the sun setting, still I didn’t suspect a thing. After ordering drinks and our meal, out of nowhere Keith was down on one knee with the most gorgeous ring I could have ever imagined. Not being a particularly quiet and shy person, I think this was the one and only time I have ever been totally speechless. But then burst in to tears. It was all I had ever hoped when thinking of someone asking me to marry them, I couldn’t have asked for anything more. The rest of the night and holiday we celebrated!

Our wedding was on 17th October 2015. We knew that we didn’t want to drag the engagement out as we had already been together seven years and when we found the venue, it all fell into place. Weather was naturally a concern for October but we were really lucky and it was sunny for the majority of the day.

We had our ceremony at St Andrews Church, Lamesley, followed by a reception at Six Restaurant at The Baltic in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

We had a few venues in mind for our wedding but on visiting they weren’t quite right for a number of reasons. The Baltic was suggested to us by a work colleague of mine, which at first we weren’t so keen on. One Saturday we went to visit and instantly fell in love with the place, both leaving with ear-to-ear grins. It really reflected us as a couple, it was in the city that we love and had views to die for.

This morning we join real bride Jo, her new husband David and Brides Up North Featured Supplier Mandy Charlton Photography for a glamorous and elegant Real Wedding in the heart of Northumberland.  With timeless grace and twinkling details, this big day packs a serious punch of pretty.

Jo says:  We got engaged in Rome on the roof of the National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II on Saturday 7th May 2011, and were married on 1st June 2013 at St Mary’s the Virgin Church, Whickham then on to Eshott Hall in Northumberland for our reception. We had the Hall all weekend and had close family and friends for champagne and a pre wedding dinner the night before.

.

The Hall has a magnificent grandeur and also an intimate feeling.  So many guests commented on what an amazing place it is. It’s very relaxed and unique with amazing staff, stunning grounds and beautifully appointed rooms.

We wanted our wedding to have timeless elegance, personal touches and traditional old school splendour.  We chose a colour scheme of midnight blue, ivory and silver.

I chose a 1920’s vintage glamour inspired Annasul Y dress from Katherine Trueman in Morpeth.

.

I carried memory lane roses, with vintage style brooches and tied with lace and midnight blue ribbon by Floral Quarter.

The bridesmaids wore Jenny Packham empire line midnight blue dresses with embellished detailing and the flower girls were in ivory dresses again with embellished detailing.

.

David wore a William Hunt midnight blue suit from Jules B and the ushers wore complimenting blue suits from Blades Formal Menswear.

As far as favourite moments go, the church and David’s speech is top of my list, but I loved every single moment, my face hurt from smiling and laughing so hard!

We chose a two tier wedding cake with ivory icing  and little white flowers covering the top tier. We opted for diamond cake topping and plain blue band.

.

I handmade lucky sixpence charms for the ladies, confetti bags and the order of services at the church. We chose personalised menus and specially cut metal table numbers, with vintage brooches and gems in the table flowers.

We used John Curtis, Wedding DJ for our evening entertainment.  He had the dance floor full all night!

After the wedding we went on honeymoon to The Maldives, which was amazing!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to get together with the people who matter the most to you the night before for a glass of Champagne as the atmosphere is electric with anticipation and relax… enjoy every single minute!

Real Wedding Recap 2012: Un-vintage Vintage: A Real Wedding In The North East – Carolyn & Jon

January 1st, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Happy New Year! Over the festive period I’ll be recapping some of my very favourite Real Weddings from the last 12 months on the wedding blog. It’s been a tough choice! In true Brides Up North style, each wedding featured on these pages is unique, beautiful and gorgeously personal. It’s been an exceptionally fabulous year! Enjoy…

Starting 2013 off feeling fresh, introducing Brides Up North reader Carolyn’s fabulous unvintage vintage (you’ll see) Real Wedding, with images from the lovely Karen McGowran and a super cool urban location.

Carolyn says:  We sort of skipped the engagement part and just decided to book our wedding!  We got married on 9th May 2012 at As You Like It, Jesmond.  We wanted somewhere a bit different from the norm. Somewhere a little cool and quirky! As You Like It has all that and because it is just outside the city centre it was handy for all of our guests.

We didn’t really have a theme. Although I love the vintage look, it seemed like it had been done before and I wanted to be different. I worked together with Charlotte from Simply Bows and Chair Covers to come up with something that would fit in with our colours of Navy and Pink. We had sweeties on each table which added a bit of fun

I went for a Maggie Sottero, satin a-line dress with beaded shoulder straps from Wedding Essentials on Dean Street. I went there because I knew they stocked the dress I had my heart set on but when I tried it on I was so disappointed! It didn’t suit me at all and my Mam and bridesmaids agreed. The assistant asked me to try on one of her recommendations and I instantly felt like a bride. The dress, although not something I would have picked myself, was classically beautiful and it suited my shape perfectly. My advice to any bride would be have an open mind when you go looking for ‘the dress’ because you could miss the right one by just looking at it on the hanger!

.

My bridesmaids wore midnight blue chiffon maxi dresses from Coast. I bought them chunky necklaces to wear with them and their beaded Accessorize bags.

.

The men’s suits were from Blades Formal Menswear in Berwick Hill, Ponteland.

Nick at nd make up artists did mine and the bridesmaids make up. She is a friend of mine and I would recommend her to anyone.

Myself and the bridesmaids got ready at Jesmond Dene House where I had stayed the night before. A BMW and a Jaguar I booked through Grosvenor cars picked us up from there to take us the short distance to As You Like It.

I went along to a wedding fair at As You Like It the week before the wedding. Although I was convinced I had everything I needed I just couldn’t help myself! It was there that I met Annette from White Flight Moments and fell in love with the idea of having a dove release after our ceremony. The doves were next to us while we said our vows so the guests could see them and afterwards we set them free as our guests watched on. The release of the doves symbolises the start of your married life together and we loved the fact that we were the first to have one at As You Like It.

There were so many great parts of the day! I remember sitting outside on the terrace having a breather with my new husband and looking through the window at our friends and family having a ball! We smiled knowing that we had put the day together ourselves and it was EXACTLY how we had hoped it would be.

We had a three tier sponge cake which was made by a friend. After looking through lots of magazines we picked something quite simple which fitted perfectly with everything else.  We also chose lots of fun sweety favours!

We had a DJ in the evening who played our favourite songs from a playlist I had put together. It seemed to go down a treat with our friends!

The fun didn’t stop after the wedding! We went to Las Vegas for 5 nights and Riviera Maya in Mexico for 10 nights. Loved it!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to read wedding magazines and wedding blogs to help you with ideas. If you think of something in your head that you want, Google it. The chances are someone, somewhere will be able to help you with it. Enjoy the organising, it’s your day you can have it just the way you want it.

.

.

Congratulations Carolyn & Jon!
