Wedding Blog Skool With The UK Alliance Of Wedding Planners – A Recap, & New Dates!

February 14th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Last Thursday – my goodness is it really less than a week ago?! – I was thrilled to be invited along as a guest of The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners to host a special “Blogging For Business” session, at The Palace Hotel in Manchester.

.

I fought wind, rain, sleet, snow and thick Pennine fog to get there (arriving three hours early – just in case – thankfully The Palace Hotel has a nice bar!) but get there I did!  We lost a few to the weather, but over twenty of the North’s wedding industry talents turned out to hear my musings.

I had managed to keep my nerves under control (and without the use of gin and tonic too!) UNTIL I saw the room I’d be presenting in.  Er, could you get any grander?  And more sound absorbent?!  Flashback to my previous life as a lawyer and taking a pasting from a particularly nasty District Judge!

.

Still, I have honed these nerves of steel in those very Court rooms, and the show went on!

.

Huge thanks to The Palace Hotel and especially wedding coordinator Jenna for really pulling out all the stops and making this such a fine event.

My presentation has a loose format (and no, it’s not all Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes as the image above might suggest!), but what I love most of all is questions from the floor.  I’m here for your information after all!  Luckily Northerners aren’t particularly shy in coming forward and a lovely interactive session was soon underway.  Before I knew it an hour and a half had flown by and it was time to retire to the bar to continue the conversation on a more one on one basis.

Thank you so much to everyone for taking the time out of your busy schedules, battling the weather and coming to join in.  You know where to find me if you want to take the discussion further: julia@bridesupnorth.co.uk

.

Thanks to Caroline White Photography for capturing the evening on camera.  As a result, she probably still has no idea what Twitter does! Winking smile

.

Special thanks has to go to The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners and in particular Andrea of A Fabulous Day Wedding Planning.  If this lady organises a wedding with anything near the military precision that she organised my event, you’ll be laughing all the way to the altar.  You need this gal in your corner! To be honest anyone who hands me a big bag of Sanctuary products as a thank you present gets my lifelong friendship!

Has laptop.  Will travel.  And will share secrets in exchange for wine (an age old formula).

You might know that I’ve been on the road recently speaking at Forward Ladies Positive Ladies Days across the North about the art of blogging. Wellllll, there’ll be more dates with the Forward Ladies soon, but for now I’m extremely honoured, very excited and actually, a teensy bit nervous to have been invited by The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners to host a special, one off Northern blogging seminar.

.

Ooooh.  Get me!  (Please come!).

.

The UKAWP say: We are delighted to announce a collaboration with Julia Braime, the owner and editor of one of the UK’s top bridal blogs, Brides Up North ®. which receives upwards of 25,000 hits per month (95% of which are from the North of the UK).* In her "Blogging for Business" workshop, Julia will share her top tips for creating and maintaining a successful business blog in any business sector, with a particular focus on the wedding industry. November 13th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Morning all!  I kinda love drizzly winter Sunday mornings! With nothing to do and no-one to see until later today, it’s the perfect opportunity for a cosy lie in, then a spot of hanging out in my pjs at the computer with a warm brew.

.

This morning’s post comes to you a little later than usual as I have been casting my votes as a regional judge in The 2012 Wedding Industry Awards.  I so enjoy taking the time to read up on each and every shortlisted business, and goodness there is some talent Up North.  I can’t wait for the glitzy awards ceremony in January, and have my fingers tightly crossed for each and every shortlisted entrant.

.

It’s probably time to draw back the curtains and let the World in, so let’s get today off to a gorgeous start, by recapping what’s been floating this wedding blog’s boat this week.

.

First of all, did you pick up your copy of this month’s Wedding Ideas Magazine was asked to contribute to a feature called “20 Amazing Ideas Blogged” alongside other top UK Wedding bloggers.  Pick up your copy today to see our tips (mine is on page 205)!

A month ago, this took part in the Forward Ladies’ Positive Women’s Day in Sheffield, delivering a seminar to a group of business ladies from all sorts of industries about blogging – or more specifically – blogging for business.  I have to admit I was pretty damn nervous, but once I got talking, I was away – and the interactive 1.5 hour session flew by.  The feedback was fab (thank goodness!) and Forward Ladies have invited me along to host the same session at their larger York event later this month.

.

Might you like to come along?

.

Morning all!  It’s been a busy week.  I’ve been a guest of the UK Wedding Shows, a guest of Leafy Couture at the Harewood House wedding evening and a guest speaker at the Forward Ladies Positive Women’s Day in Sheffield, talking about “Blogging For Business”.

.

If you would like to come along to a similar seminar in the future please contact me to let me know.  If the demand is there I will get something arranged!

.

Today I’m at The Wedding Affair at Newby Hall, Ripon from 12pm – 4pm.  Drop by and say hello!

So, guess what?  This time next week I will have been married for one whole year!  Time really flies (especially when you spent the best part of that year juggling two lives as a lawyer and – if you don’t know the story behind that, click here).

.

I’m so excited as my lovely hubby is planning on whisking me off for a few days away to a secret location.  How I love him!

.

I actually have an admission to make – we still haven’t chosen the final edit for our wedding album.  Who would have thought it?  I’m a bad wife (but a good wedding blogger!).

.

To rectify things, I have decided to devote some blog posts next week to my reflections on a year of marriage, what marriage means, looking back at the past year and my hopes and dreams for the future.  I would absolutely love it if you would chime in with your own comments and help to get some constructive discussion going here on the wedding blog

.

In the meantime – if you so desire, you can see my wedding pictures here:

It’s not all going to be my personal memoirs though… you’ll also find the usual mix of bridal fashion, real weddings, news and supplier showcases gracing these silver swirly pages, and boy do I have some corking wedding inspiration to share with you, like this bridal shoot that I styled last week at Rockliffe Hall, that’s in today’s Sunday Sun! (North East). The full set to come soon on the wedding blog so just a sneak peek for now…
