The Winter Boudoir. A Sweet Reveal shoot by Cat Hepple Photography

January 20th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Cat Hepple Photography

Boudoir photography has a bad name, and this is no-one’s fault but it’s own.  All to often, boudoir photography is tacky, hard, artificial, awkward and the absolute opposite of soft and and sensual.  Would I book a boudoir shoot?  Absolutely not.

But what about a Sweet Reveal shoot?  Handled in an entirely different way at the hands of our wonderful Featured Supplier Cat of Cat Hepple Photography and her team of creatives, these shoots are less of a present for his bottom drawer, and more of a present to yourself – for your armoire or bedroom window seat.  Affirming, confidence building, celebratory and oh soooo sexy, would I book a Sweet Reveal shoot?  Well, maybe I already have…

Cat Hepple Photography

That’s for me to know, but for now, here’s Cat and her team (watch out for Brides Up North Featured Suppliers Victoria Farr and Story Of Your Day Wedding Films too) to ease you into this very good idea, as they present their “Winter Boudoir” shoot.

Cat Hepple Photography

Cat says:  Sweet Reveal shoots are stylish boudoir shoots with an editorial feel- they look like something from a glossy magazine. I created this style of boudoir for my brides who often asked for a boudoir shoot but with a more subtle and romantic feel than typical images you’d expect from a lingerie shoot.

The Winter Boudoir from Story of Your Day on Vimeo.

I always work around a theme, a styled look for each shoot, carefully crafted around the woman I’m going to be working with. Recent shoots included a Bond Girl influence, a boho look, and a Carrie Bradshaw styled look. It’s an individual as the woman.

For this shoot, I wanted to use ballet as our inspiration, we weren’t looking to recreate a ballet scene, but to use elements of dance to soften the feel and give it a fashion edge. Firstly the lingerie choices were so important, soft laces, high waisted knickers, tulle skirts, body stockings, all gave a nod to the world of ballet. I brought in the expert help of Jayne Winn from Sheer Bliss lingerie boutique, who sourced the beautiful lingerie pieces used in the shoot. Added to that  we sprinkled a little extra glamour using gorgeous necklaces and hair decorations. These pieces added that all important editorial feel to the finished look.

I asked Charlotte Miller from Eden and Eve to style the shoot for me. Charlotte has a lot of experience at styling and understands how to bring a concept to life. She added warm sumptuous fur throws and ballet ribbon to our scenes and suggested one necklace be worn as a headpiece to go with some beautiful sleepwear in the softest blush rose pink. The key for this shoot was not to make it look too cutesy. Women having a boudoir shoot want to look sultry, sassy, sexy and chic. So we didn’t want the look to become too fluffy. This is where Victoria Farr our hair and make up artist became so important. She created hairstyles which you wouldn’t expect to see in the ballet room, so keeping the look more edgy and fashion conscious. The whole mix works so well together.

Many women are scared of boudoir shoots, feeling that everything will have to be on show and that they can be completely unforgiving to most women, but this simply is not true. These carefully crafted shoots are about exploiting the best parts of a woman, and giving her confidence to feel and look amazing. The transformation between a woman who arrives for the shoot feeling nervous and when they leave looking and feeling radiant and confident, is one of the best things for me about The Sweet Reveal. It’s amazing to do that for someone.

The Sweet reveal shoots make a great Valentines day gift. Imagine surprising your partner with the most beautiful little album filled with gorgeous shots of you. Currently if you book for Valentines, hair and make up is included in the price too, making it a great way to do something amazing for someone very special.

Bridal Burlesque! Supplier Bulletin: Masque Photography

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Burlesque

Alongside your Strictly and your X Factor it seems that bit of razzle dazzle is just right for a Saturday night, wouldn’t you agree ladies?

.

Unless you have been buried under piles of tulle and lace, it won’t have escaped your attention that the art of burlesque has seen quite the revival in recent years.  With the fashion (and wedding) world increasingly influenced by a nostalgia for the glitz and glamour of bygone eras, it was only a matter of time before the very best of us fancied a flutter with a feathery fan.

.

You might draw inspiration for your wedding day beauty from burlesque’s old school pin up stars, fancy a little more slink from your bridal fashion or maybe even feel like having a go at it yourself.

.

Funny that… Masque Photography, who are based in Yorkshire and specialise in beautiful boudoir photography are offering their clients the chance to learn the art of the tease with Secrets of the Boudoir Burlesque founder and performer, Deadly Nightshade.

You can learn how to pose like a pin up, peel off gloves and create a burlesque routine followed by a vintage/pin-up make-over and hour photo-shoot inspired by the poses from the lesson.

.

Whether a gift for the hen, a much needed pre wedding confidence boost, a pressie for him indoors or simply for curiosity’s sake, might you be tempted to give it a go?

What do you reckon?

Girls Allowed: FYEO Portraits Open Evening

May 3rd, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

The lovely ladies over at FYEO Portraits Newcastle Upon Tyne sent Brides Up North some great photos from their recent open evening.  By all accounts, the gloriously girly affair was a roaring success.  If you haven’t already booked your boudoir shoot, sign up soon!  A great gift for him or just a huge confidence boost for you – this should be on every Bride to Be’s shopping list.

Ali spills the beans:  After weeks of painting, and other DIY like jobs, Karen and I rushed back home to get dolled up – the dress code was frocks and heels so we had to look the part!  We had glasses of bubbly waiting for all of our guests (around 60 came), and lovely popcakes supplied by Popcake Kitchen and Cake Poppins.

Throughout the evening, one of our make up artists, Amy was in the make-up room doing little mini make-up sessions with guests and answering questions about make-up styles etc.  We did a demonstration shoot in the studio, showing the guests a couple of the amazing poses we use to really flatter our clients’ bodies.  This was really well received as it helped take the "scariness" out of having a shoot.  We also did a little prize draw to win goodies including a bottle of bubbly, and a shoot with us in the studio.

Oh La La! FYEO Portraits

March 22nd, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Ali Groves from FYEO Portraits talks Brides Up North into a beautiful boudoir shoot – the new groom’s gift and confidence boosting trend sweeping the nation and the North.

.

.

FYEO

.

.

Bridal boudoir sessions are more popular than ever!  Why do you think that is?
.

Brides are looking for a more unique gifts and men are sometimes quite hard to buy for. What better than super sexy image of yourself with a little note saying ‘meet me at the altar….’ Its also a gift that you benefit from too, as you get to be pampered and have the experience of the shoot, which is very liberating a huge confidence boost!  We are also a lot of fun for hen parties!
.

.
What sets FYEO Portraits apart from other studios?
.

We are an all female team with a dedicated studio and we understand what matters to women. There is immaculate attention to detail giving very flattering results and its a huge confidence         boost too!  We only shoot boudoir images at the studio, so we are totally focussed on providing you with an amazing, enjoyable experience.  We have studios around the country, so there will always be one close to you.
.

.

FYEO

.

.
What can I expect when I come for a FYEO Portraits session?
.

You will be welcomed into the studio and we will pop the kettle on and have a chat about why you are doing the shoot, and any worries you may have.    Then we will take you through to the make up room, and do your make up for you.  This may be a bit heavier than you would normally wear, but we know what looks great under the studio lights.  Once that’s done, we will take you through to the studio and have a look at what things you have brought with you so that the photographer can start to style the shoot for you.  Then the shoot starts and we ease you into it with careful directions about how to stand / where to look etc.

.

.

FYEO

.

.
Who will be taking the pictures?

.

One of our female photographers will be doing your shoot – in Newcastle, probably either myself or Karen.  We have both been shooting boudoir for some time now, and are very experienced at showing women in their best light and putting you at ease – we both have our own body hang ups – so we know what you are going through!

.

.

.

.

I’m not a perfect 10, does it matter?

.
No of course it doesn’t matter!!  Who is a perfect size 10 anyway!!  We have already had a lady come for a shoot 6 weeks after giving birth!  She looked amazing!  Its all about flattering poses and finding that inner confidence, which we help you with.

Bridal Boudoir…

February 14th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Happy Valentines Day everybody!

.

Since everyone is already in the mood for romance, Kim and Jeanette at Cocoon Photography lift the lid on boudoir photography, which is rapidly increasing in popularity amongst brides to be!  A great wedding (or belated Valentine’s) gift for your new husband, or just for yourself, body beauty is no longer taboo.

.

Go for it girls!

.

.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

.

Over to Cocoon Photography: What is boudoir photography? Well, that depends on who you talk to. Wikipediaʼs description is “A boudoir is a lady’s private bedroom, sitting room or dressing room. The term derives from the French verb bouder, meaning "to pout". However, the reality is that boudoir photography is sophisticated, beautiful and chic.

.

.

A Cocoon Photography Boudoir shoot can take place at your home, a hotel or our studio. You donʼt need to live in a mansion or stately home, or book a room in a boutique hotel. Ideally, all we need is lots of natural light and space, but we do have lighting if needed.

Your day starts with a glass of champagne whilst you have your fabulous make-over by the talented Katy Messer of Make Up By Katy. There is no doubt that after having your make up professionally applied and chatting with Katy, your confidence will soar, and coupled with the beautiful lingerie you have treated yourself to, there will be no stopping you.

There is no denying it, the thought of standing in front of complete strangers in your underwear is nerve-wracking. Believe me, I have done it – see our blog post!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

.

.

Even though Kim isnʼt a stranger, it was still very daunting. However, it is also very liberating. I am a size
14/16 (more of a 16 at the moment) and yet looking back at the photos, you couldnʼt tell that. This is down to the way that you are posed. Being a size 14/16, I cannot pose the same way as someone who is a size 6 as obviously our body shapes are different, and what works for my shape, doesnʼt necessary work for someone who is very petite.

.

.

All the photos that you view after your shoot will be beauty edited. You can then select your favourites for your very own Little Black Book.

A boudoir shoot is all about you. Whether its for a loved one, a milestone in your life, to celebrate a weight loss, or just because you can. For a groom, a partner, or just for you.

Every woman should have a boudoir shoot done. Get practicing your ʻpoutsʼ and book a shoot – go on, you know you want to.
