Pearl Veil – traditional lace with beautiful pearl trim detail

Nothing quite says bride like a gorgeous gown topped off with a veil. In line with fast-paced bridalwear trends it’s not a case of one style suits all, with designers creating a variety of veils to match with and complement gowns in their collections, meaning the options vary in length, layers and detail.

One of the latest designers to turn her talented hands to such accessories, is our wonderful Lead Sponsor and top British bridal designer, Charlotte Balbier. Last week on the blog we shared a special preview of Charlotte’s insanely-beautiful new wedding dress collection for 2018 – Bohemian Blush – and now the princess of bridalwear Miss Balbier, is treating us to full look at her fabulous new collection of veils.

Featuring an option for all styles of weddings, the fanciful designs range from flirty and elegant to dazzling and dramatic, with delicate fine tulles decorated with embellishments, beading, pearls and lace pattern detailing.

So, join us as we swoon over the highly-derisible designs on offer…

breaking the bridal rules – beautifully – introducing charlotte balbier separates

December 8th, 2016 | Rachel Parry

We’re all about pushing wedding boundaries, thinking outside the big day box and sometimes, just sometimes, breaking the bridal rules. This is perhaps why we’re such a fan of the super-stylish Separates collection from our good industry friend and Sponsor, Charlotte Balbier.

Daring to go where other bridal wear labels won’t, Charlotte was one of the first British designers to introduce an inter-changeable Separates range to her collections, which enable a bride to build and create her own individual big day look using slips, skirts, toppers and belts.

nova-hr

Nova

Encouraging fashion-forward and free-spirited brides to throw the wedding attire rule book out of the window, the versatile range provides options beyond the traditional wedding gown and helps a bride to express their unique individuality, personality and style through their bridalwear choices.

Better still, when broken down into individual components, the pieces can be worn long beyond the wedding day – so while not conventional, they’re certainly both practical and pretty.

This new imagery from Charlotte Balbier showcases perfectly how the Separates can be teamed for a high-impact wedding day look and then switched-up and restyled for cool and edgy casualwear.

For example, brides wanting a classic yet contemporary look for their wedding could pair the lace Cressy topper with the voluminous Piper tulle skirt, while for the boho bride the Rowe satin and lace topper and Saint chiffon skirt provide a dreamy duo. For a flirtier look, the Una thick lace topper and pretty, flared Pippa puff-ball skirt is most definitely a winning combination.

Following the big day, brides can then add their Separates to their everyday wardrobe with toppers doubling up as on-trend cropped tops and soft jackets and gilets providing classy winter cover-ups.

Personal favourites that would earn a place on our wardrobe wish list include the Cressida satin and lace topper, the fabulous Marabou feather Sparrow jacket and the super-soft Hester fur jacket. If Santa happens to be listening, we’ve been awfully good this year!

fashion-forward flair: introducing felicity cooper bridal

June 13th, 2016 | Julia Braime

Felicity Cooper Bridal (2)

If you’re still on the hunt for that one perfect dress for your wedding day, this afternoon’s post may be of extra interest as we introduce new Brides Up North Sponsor, Felicity Cooper Bridal, to the blog.

Set up by talented designer and boutique owner Fiona Cooper in 2010, the stunning brand has gone from strength-to-strength and is now stocked at select dress shops in the UK and Europe, with Fiona’s own shop, The Wedding Boutique, in Cheshire, being the Flagship store for Felicity Cooper.

Dress designs are created with brides’ requests in mind resulting in fashion forward gowns that are guaranteed to turn heads. From dreamy lace Boho designs to elegant silk chiffon gowns, ladies making a decision on just one could be tricky!

Here to fill us in on all the details of the beautiful brand is the creator herself…

Felicity Cooper Bridal (9)

When and why did you first set up Felicity Cooper Bridal and what is your background in the fashion and bridal industry?

fiona says: I opened The Wedding Boutique Cheshire back in 2008. From listening to brides’ like and dislikes we decided to create a bridal label that would fill the gap we had in the boutique. This went from strength to strength and in early 2016 we made the decision to relaunch The Wedding Boutique as the flagship store for Felicity Cooper.

What type of bride is a Felicity Cooper bride?

A Felicity Cooper bride ultimately wants to have fun; she’s relaxed and fashion forward, she wants to stand out from the crowd through flair not fuss.

Felicity Cooper Bridal (1)

How would you describe the look and feel of Felicity Cooper designs?

Both First Love and the 2017 Natural Soul collections have an emphasis on fabric and cuts, flowing lines and low back detail. The new collection is bringing more embellishment and beading with a hint of colour.

catwalk crush: amanda wyatt, 2017 collection, she walks with beauty

April 21st, 2016 | Rachel Parry

Amanda Wyatt She Walks With Beauty (c) Craig Fleming (33)

There are certain dates in the Brides Up North calendar that we look forward to every year and the annual launch of Amanda Wyatt’s latest bridal collection is most certainly one of them.

As well as knowing all about designing beautiful and wearable wedding gowns, Miss Wyatt (and her daughter, fellow bridal designer Charlotte Balbier) certainly know all there is to know about putting on a glittering event, as we were treated to a fabulous catwalk show, informative talk and delicious lunch!

Amanda Wyatt She Walks With Beauty (c) Craig Fleming (43)

Now into her 23rd year as a leading name in British bridal fashion, boutique owners and press invited to the launch of Amanda’s 2017 she walks with beauty collection show were exceptionally eager to see what pretty creations the talented lady would be pulling out of the bag next.

The answer? More than 35 gorgeous gowns inspired by old Hollywood glamour that prompted a fair few gasps, “ahhs” and “ooos” from us onlookers as the dreamy designs were showcased on the catwalk for the first time.

Earlier this year we were fortunate enough to give you a sneak peek of the collection on the blog, but in today’s post you can see it in its entirety, complete with fabulous finishing touches in veils and accessories, and even bridesmaid designs for your leading ladies. Talking of which, with the exception of Amanda herself, there was a certain someone who stole the limelight of the show (despite only being hip-high) by modelling the adorable Wyatt flower girl dresses whilst blowing kisses to those in the front row #toosweet!

But back to those stunning wedding gowns! The runway was awash with glamorous and graceful gowns featuring fabulous attention to detail, illusion backs, elegant sleeves, jewelled accents and beautiful buttons, making She Walks With Beauty Amanda’s most intricate and opulent collection to date.

As we’ve come to expect from Amanda, the collection also featured a varied and inspirational colour palette, from rich shades of ivory and champagne, to dove grey and blush pinks.

dress candy. houghton nyc

May 15th, 2015 | Julia Braime

Barcelona Bridal Week 2016

One of the most innovative collections at Barcelona Bridal Week had to be the cutting edge offering from US based label, houghton nyc.  This super slick design house stood out for all the right reasons, from their trend setting fabrics and cuts, to their ice cool catwalk show.

Barcelona Bridal Week 2016

Designer Katharine Polk describes the Houghton Bride collection as having a “free spirit” feel and says that she wants her brides to “feel comfortable in [their] skin.”

Speaking to US site, The Knot, Katharine says “I’ve never felt a strong inspiration for Houghton Bride, just always gone very simple and clean. This [collection] has a very strong influence, which is really cool. It’s a very loose inspiration; I have a whole board with little pieces from here and there that when you bring it all together it creates one master image – it’s the feel that translates into the collection and mentality.”

Barcelona Bridal Week 2016

Hey, it’s Friday. Grab your cuppa and get ready for a little dress candy, plus a few peeks backstage at the show.

Got that Friday feeling? You have now.

June 11th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Folega Photography for KMR Bespoke Bridal

Have I got some eye candy for you lovely lot today! The lady behind this (fabulous) wedding dress is nothing if not versatile.  She’s also extremely talented and a rather lovely person at that.  I know.  I’ve met her, and see these beauties in real life.

Step forward Kelly Redhead of KMR Bespoke Bridal.  One to watch and superstar designer of the future, she’s here to present her 2015 Whiting Collection to Brides Up North.  You saw it here first girls (oh, except from on the pages of Vogue Italia – yes, that’s exactly how we roll!).

Kelly says: A collaborative literature vintage themed shoot at Cusworth Hall, Doncaster brought together a talented group of suppliers. Cusworth Hall was a fantastic venue to hold the shoot with many of the shots taken in the Library, in keeping with the literary theme.

The little details from the various suppliers involved with the shoot worked perfectly with my designs and the fresh approach of the photography by Sarah really did make this shoot romantic and full of love.

The Whiting Collection is my debut 2015 collection of bridal gowns. The collection is named after my late Grandmother who inspired me from a young age to become a designer. Three of the collections gowns were used in this preview shoot at Cusworth Hall; Grace, Ivy and Annie.

Grace is an elegant floor length bias cut ivory silk crepe and guipure lace gown. A high illusion neckline is finished with bound silk crepe detailing and delicate cap sleeves. A KMR signature of a keyhole back opening paired with a detachable lace train creates a stunning back. The gown is finished with a silver crystal embellished waistband.

Ivy is a stylish ivory embroidered lace and silk crepe backed satin gown. Elegant lace sleeves and a deep V-shaped neckline at the back of the gown are finished with a delicate scallop lace edging. Creating a figure enhancing silhouette the gown has a bias fishtail skirt with a train to add a feminine touch. The gown is finished with delicate covered buttons and rouleau loops down the back.

Annie is a sophisticated strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline. The elegant circle skirt is made up of layers of silk taffeta and silk chiffon with a beautiful train. The bodice is finished with delicate pleated silk taffeta, a plunging back and fastened with rouleau loops and covered buttons. The gown is finished with a stunning silver crystal motif on the waist.

There are three other gowns in KMR’s 2015 bridal collection. As this was a preview shoot of the collection the final three gowns will be revealed soon.
