friday fabulous: thomas sabo’s love bridge collection

June 17th, 2016 | Julia Braime

Thomas Sabo Love Bridge

Here at Brides Up North, we’ve always been fans of Thomas Sabo‘s range of fashionable, wearable jewellery, so when our go-to jewellery brand decided to throw some extra romance into the mix, the result was always going to be right up our street.

thomas sabo say: Our bridal jewellery collection is all about eternalising the best day of your life with stunning jewellery designs to be treasured forever. As every bride has a different taste, we have created wedding jewellery to suit every style, whether it be vintage inspired, glamorous, classic and timeless or sweet and romantic.

The bridal selection includes carefully hand-picked pieces: delicate or statement necklaces, glorious drop earrings, bangles and bracelets to give that extra special touch to your wedding look and rings so elegant that they’ll perfectly pair with your wedding ring. The array of Thomas Sabo engagement rings offers options for all budgets, including both stunning cubic zirconia encrusted designs in sterling silver and solid gold rings with real diamonds and gemstones from the Fine Jewellery collection.

The groom will be able to complement his look with stunningly designed cufflinks, elegant watches and sophisticated bracelets and the wedding jewellery edit also includes cute Charm Club pieces for flower girls.

At Brides Up North, we are particularly keen on the The Love Bridge range for brides or bridesmaids. The idea is inspired by a romantic ritual: as a symbol of their love and everlasting togetherness, lovers attach padlocks engraved with their initials to famous bridges in the most romantic cities in the world. From New York, Paris, Venice to Cape Town, the so-called ‘Love Bridges’ have become a symbol of romance, celebrating a special promise made by two people.

Profound feelings, meaningful moments, love and happiness – the new Love Bridge line from Thomas Sabo captures important events in life with a bespoke engraving. Why not use yours to send a secret love message? #anyexcuse

Heaven Sent. The Designer Series: Nymphi Bridal

August 1st, 2013 | Julia Braime

A recent discovery of mine this year at White Gallery London (and a very lovely one at that), Nymphi produce and hand make bridal accessories including veils, intricate lace caps, floral and flapper inspired head pieces, detailed sparkly sashes, cuffs, collars, head and shoulder pieces.  Their latest collection is designed for a woman who knows what she wants, who is fashion aware but not bound to follow it; she knows her own personal style.

.

Sound like anyone you know, Brides Up North?

Nymphi say:  You never really need to search for inspiration, inspiration finds you. This may have something to do with where the company is based. With rugged mountains cascading down to crystal seas and the traditions and mythology of the ancient Greeks, a simple glimpse out of the window or a historic tale from an old friend can and does bring inspiration every day.

The 2014 collection, which pays homage to women of the 1920’s and 1930’s and their daring style choices, as well as the romantic, bohemian spirit of the hippies, uses a lot of French cotton lace which is a favourite of ours at the moment and we love to use it in unusual ways.

.

.

Rchive Photography for Nymphi Bridal

.

.

The Nymphi 2014 collection has such a variety of styles there is something to go with almost any gown. Many pieces compliment a more classic look whilst others are for those who prefer a vintage style and of course there are a few pieces for those who would like to be a little more ‘edgy’.  With the feel of the 1920’s and 1960’s the loose-haired bohemian, natural makeup and vintage 1920’s hair and makeup styles will look fabulous with many of our pieces and whilst many others would suit the classic bridal bun.

.

.

.

.

Our main signature pieces are our Juliet and veil caps as they have a very distinctive Nymphi style and we love creating them. Our new range of shoulder pieces are also fast becoming something that Nymphi is well known for, as they allow brides to turn a dress into the one they dreamt of by adding the desired feel to the neckline.

.

Naming our pieces is easy, we look at the piece and what it says to us and then we look to the past and the legends of the ancient Greeks and the name just speaks to us.

.

.

Nymphi is mainly a wholesale company, but we really enjoy creating that special piece for someone who is specifically looking for something different and therefore we are happy to offer a bespoke service.  Nymphi retails from around £30 for one of our cuffs, for example, but can go up to more than £1,000 if you wish to have a cathedral length silk veil; the collection is very diverse.

.

.

.

.

Nymphi pieces are quite different from other accessories because designer, Varvara Dimitrea, likes to create things that have never been seen before, using material in ways that are unpredictable and this gives a distinctive style to all Nymphi pieces.

.

.

Rchive Photography for Nymphi Bridal

.

.

Varvara’s journey to her love of design was not the conventional route. Born into an artistic Greek family and raised in Chicago in a culturally and socially infused environment, her life has been heavily influenced by both the multicultural urban setting of the city she grew up in and the rugged Mani Region of Southern Greece where her family originated from and where she eventually settled.

.

Varvara, like all members of her family, has a very artistic soul and found freedom in creating semi-precious jewellery. After creating a custom piece for a close friend that was getting married, a friend suggested to her that she should make bridal accessories. She quickly realised that this was her calling and Nymphi Bridal was created.

,

.

.

.

Nymphi’s philosophy is to enjoy everything that we do and love everything that we create, and as such every day at Nymphi is a joy. Our work is our passion, our love and our life – everything we ever dreamt of.

We don’t consider Nymphi as work, for us it’s life and we love it! Our plan for the future is to grow the company and spread our Nymphi wings worldwide.

.

.

.

.

The best things in life for us are our family and friends who support and guide us every day and for who we are grateful and thankful. Secondly, we get to wake up every morning and do something that we love to do with people we love to work with – and when you really can’t ask for much more – we get to do all this in a place that is so beautiful it’s a daily inspiration.

Supplier Showcase: By Gina Jewellery In A Styled Bridal Shoot At Woodhill Hall, Northumberland

May 31st, 2013 | Julia Braime

Wahey!  Friday’s only gone and bloomin’ landed!  Why is it that the week following a Bank Holiday always seems longer (and busier!) than ever?

.

I’ll be collapsing in an event planning induced stupor – did you know it’s our last luxury wedding exhibition of the season next Sunday at Sarah Beeny’s Rise Hall (finishing with flair – click here for all the details!) – but whatever your plans for the weekend (anyone getting wed? hands up!) I hope it’s filled with glamour and glitter, just like this cute and colourful little styled shoot by Brides Up North Featured Supplier By Gina Jewellery to show off her handmade twinkly things.

.

With some help from some of my very favourite Featured Suppliers and North East wedding industry friends, the result is a little pop of sparkle to start your Friday off beautifully!

Gina says:  I organised the shoot to showcase my jewellery but also the amazing venue Woodhill Hall, which hadn’t been used in a photo shoot before. I wanted to do something a little different from the usual head and shoulder shots of jewellery so hunted all over Pinterest for some inspiration and to show Phil Smith Photography the sort of style I was looking for. Luckily, Phil and I have very similar ideas of what works and he came up with some more excellent ideas. I loved the quirkiness of Woodhill and wanted to use their wallpaper and scenic views in the shoot. I have seen so many ‘vintage’ shoots about that I wanted to use the jewellery as a focus rather than a specific style.

The day was excellent.!  We had been forecast for rain all day but when we got up to Otterburn the sun was shining but it was blowing a gale! Phil and I had a walk around the venue and discussed shots and locations and a few extra ideas we had for getting some excellent shots. There aren’t a lot of stairs at Woodhill, but when  you run up and down them at least 50 times an hour it seems likes there are a lot more!

.

Phil and I were both very keen to get some shots on a sofa outside… the only problem being the sofa was brand new, the walls had just been painted and papered and the doorframe didn’t have an inch spare! After a lot of debate the sofa went outdoors and we prayed that the heavens didn’t open we were lucky and the shots were so worth it!

Since the photo shoot, we have had a bit of news. My other half accepted a promotion meaning we will be moving to Colchester in August. I will still be making and selling jewellery and the great news is that AJ Bridalwear in Newburn is now a stockist of my jewellery, so I will still have jewellery in the North East! I’m going to miss it up here, but I will be up every month or so and so will be able to keep up with what is happening in the region.
