April 7th, 2016 | Rachel Parry

_MG_1988

Though it’s not just the night of the wedding that you need to think about. Wouldn’t you love a pretty silk robe to wear for the bridal preparations on the morning of the wedding as well as some elegant loungewear for the all-important honeymoon? Well these guys have that covered too!

wrapped in luxury: introducing pj’slondon silk nightwear

February 15th, 2016 | Julia Braime

PJ'SLONDON (11)

Is there anything better in the world than a new pair of pyjamas? We think not. Particularly when it comes to a special occasion, such as a romantic night away, a holiday or Christmas.

For brides, the wedding night and honeymoon will also be key events when new nightwear is required, in order to both look and feel fabulous (and, of course, knock the groom’s socks off in the process).

So to help ladies find such fitting attire, today on the blog we’re introducing new Brides Up North sponsor and luxury nightwear designer Luz Karina Huertas, who owns and runs PJ’sLONDON.

Handcrafted in Britain using 100% silk, these posh PJs take loungewear to a whole new level of luxury with robes, slips and top and bottom sets all made-to-order and finished to customers’ requirements.

To tell us more about what’s available to make your first night as a ‘Mrs’ all the more memorable, we’ll hand over to the lovely Luz…

PJ'SLONDON (4)

How did you get involved in design and the fashion industry?

luz says: Choosing to pursue a degree in fashion design was an easy choice for me as I love the process of making a garment, from design to completion. I apply all of the skills I learnt in my degree, such as sketching, pattern cutting, sewing and graphic design, and have been able to build PJ’sLONDON whilst retaining my creative vision.

Being very persistent in doing what I believe in and getting advice from the right people and taking their opinions on-board has helped me to shape my business.

Tell us about PJ’sLONDON and the products it offers to brides?

We produce luxurious, customised pyjamas using 100% silk and a gorgeous palette of 43 colour options! In a small studio based in London, we make every garment by hand with great attention to detail and lots of love. Every pyjama is made-to-order to ensure we avoid any unnecessary waste. Each garment is finished with the specifications required by the client, allowing the client to become the designer and select every detail of their design, from colour and fabric, to finishing touches such as the details on the neckline, waistband and sleeves. You can even add your own monogram for a completely unique finish.

PJ'SLONDON (14)

What is your favourite thing about your job?

In my studio, I love it when a garment is taking shape and you are almost there! Seeing the end result and the client’s reaction is always the best bit. I give 100% to ensure my clients are totally happy with the finished product, and they appreciate that.

How can luxury nightwear help a bride feel special on her wedding night and honeymoon?

Everything is in the detail and every bride wants only the best and to feel truly stunning and unique before, during and after their ceremony. Adding those extra touches of glamour with lustrous silk nightwear and robes are a great addition for the perfect wedding night. They’re a honeymoon essential, too!

The Winter Boudoir. A Sweet Reveal shoot by Cat Hepple Photography

January 20th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Cat Hepple Photography

Boudoir photography has a bad name, and this is no-one’s fault but it’s own.  All to often, boudoir photography is tacky, hard, artificial, awkward and the absolute opposite of soft and and sensual.  Would I book a boudoir shoot?  Absolutely not.

But what about a Sweet Reveal shoot?  Handled in an entirely different way at the hands of our wonderful Featured Supplier Cat of Cat Hepple Photography and her team of creatives, these shoots are less of a present for his bottom drawer, and more of a present to yourself – for your armoire or bedroom window seat.  Affirming, confidence building, celebratory and oh soooo sexy, would I book a Sweet Reveal shoot?  Well, maybe I already have…

Cat Hepple Photography

That’s for me to know, but for now, here’s Cat and her team (watch out for Brides Up North Featured Suppliers Victoria Farr and Story Of Your Day Wedding Films too) to ease you into this very good idea, as they present their “Winter Boudoir” shoot.

Cat Hepple Photography

Cat says:  Sweet Reveal shoots are stylish boudoir shoots with an editorial feel- they look like something from a glossy magazine. I created this style of boudoir for my brides who often asked for a boudoir shoot but with a more subtle and romantic feel than typical images you’d expect from a lingerie shoot.

The Winter Boudoir from Story of Your Day on Vimeo.

I always work around a theme, a styled look for each shoot, carefully crafted around the woman I’m going to be working with. Recent shoots included a Bond Girl influence, a boho look, and a Carrie Bradshaw styled look. It’s an individual as the woman.

Cat Hepple Photography

Cat Hepple Photography

For this shoot, I wanted to use ballet as our inspiration, we weren’t looking to recreate a ballet scene, but to use elements of dance to soften the feel and give it a fashion edge. Firstly the lingerie choices were so important, soft laces, high waisted knickers, tulle skirts, body stockings, all gave a nod to the world of ballet. I brought in the expert help of Jayne Winn from Sheer Bliss lingerie boutique, who sourced the beautiful lingerie pieces used in the shoot. Added to that  we sprinkled a little extra glamour using gorgeous necklaces and hair decorations. These pieces added that all important editorial feel to the finished look.

Cat Hepple Photography

Cat Hepple Photography

Cat Hepple Photography

Cat Hepple Photography

I asked Charlotte Miller from Eden and Eve to style the shoot for me. Charlotte has a lot of experience at styling and understands how to bring a concept to life. She added warm sumptuous fur throws and ballet ribbon to our scenes and suggested one necklace be worn as a headpiece to go with some beautiful sleepwear in the softest blush rose pink. The key for this shoot was not to make it look too cutesy. Women having a boudoir shoot want to look sultry, sassy, sexy and chic. So we didn’t want the look to become too fluffy. This is where Victoria Farr our hair and make up artist became so important. She created hairstyles which you wouldn’t expect to see in the ballet room, so keeping the look more edgy and fashion conscious. The whole mix works so well together.

Cat Hepple Photography

Cat Hepple Photography

Cat Hepple Photography

Many women are scared of boudoir shoots, feeling that everything will have to be on show and that they can be completely unforgiving to most women, but this simply is not true. These carefully crafted shoots are about exploiting the best parts of a woman, and giving her confidence to feel and look amazing. The transformation between a woman who arrives for the shoot feeling nervous and when they leave looking and feeling radiant and confident, is one of the best things for me about The Sweet Reveal. It’s amazing to do that for someone.

The Sweet reveal shoots make a great Valentines day gift. Imagine surprising your partner with the most beautiful little album filled with gorgeous shots of you. Currently if you book for Valentines, hair and make up is included in the price too, making it a great way to do something amazing for someone very special.

Wisps & Wilderness: A Styled Bridal Shoot Featuring Laura George Wedding Lingerie At Danby Castle, North Yorkshire

September 18th, 2013 | Julia Braime

Lissa Alexandra Photography

This afternoon’s feature is something really rather lovely.  If you’ve got your knickers in a twist about your wedding lingerie, look no further.  After today’s pretty post, with images by Lissa Alexandra Photography, I have a feeling that you’ll have it sorted.

Lissa Alexandra Photography

Lissa Alexandra Photography

Lissa says:  Laura George makes amazing wedding lingerie and garters.  The shoot concept was really simple, amazing lingerie in an amazing location: Danby Castle in North Yorkshire!

Laura’s designs are uber feminine and pretty and she wanted really soft photos to reflect this, which suits my photography style perfectly! We discussed different shot ideas and wanted it quite ethereal and not too posey. We also didn’t want stick thin models either, the girls had to be natural and pretty and look like a ‘real’ bride to be, in fact one of them was! Fortunately the girls who work at Danby Castle very kindly offered their services and they fitted the bill perfectly!

We didn’t want a plethora of suppliers involved but we invited Katy Howieson from
What Katy Did Next to supply the headpieces as I’ve worked with her before and absolutely love her creations. She does very intricate designs with natural materials like feathers and leather and the two designers complemented each other’s work fabulously.

For makeup we used Kate Pymm, she is recommended by Danby Castle and I often get to shoot her lovely work. The makeup was soft, with earthy colours to highlight the model’s natural beauty. Hair was styled by Meg Horton.  Meg works at Danby Castle but also does bridal hair in her own time. Meg is a fab stylist who listens to the brief and delivers the vision.

On the day of the shoot itself Em, the head chef at Danby, provided us with the most amazing spread including oysters, salmon, champagne jellies and much more, it was quite the treat I can tell you! So I simply had to photograph it as it was so beautiful (and yummy!) The tents and cars are a new service offered by Danby Castle as part of their ever expanding wedding packages.

Good Morning Beautiful! A Supplier Showcase – PLUS 10% OFF For Wedding Blog Readers

July 8th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Katharine Peachey for Good Morning Beautiful

.

.

It really is a beautiful morning isn’t it… following a very special weekend, where all of the UK’s wishes seemed to come true all at once!  Blinding sunshine, a Lions win and a straight sets victory at Wimbledon for our very own Andy Murray.  If (like my friends Matt and Charlotte) you said “I do” this weekend, you sure picked a blinder! So, what better time to spring out of bed, and welcome Bella of Brides Up North Featured Supplier Good Morning Beautiful to the wedding blog?!

.

And to make things even more rosy, Good Morning Beautiful are offering Brides Up North readers a 10% discount for purchases made before 1st September, using discount code BRIDESUPNORTH10 at the checkout.  Go forth, shop!

Katharine Peachey for Good Morning Beautiful

.

.

Why and when did you decide to launch Good Morning Beautiful – what is your story?

.

My husband, Fiachra, and I got married in September 2012 and I was desperate to find bridesmaids’ presents that were unique, that my girls would love but that weren’t particularly ‘bridal’. I wanted them to have a great memento from the day, but thought it was a waste of money to buy them gifts they might never look at again! I searched for ages (and bought loads of presents!) but couldn’t find exactly what I was after. I knew our photographer, Katharine Peachey, would be there in the morning to photograph us getting ready and this sparked the idea that non-traditional ‘bridal’ dressing gowns could make the girls feel comfortable in her presence, look awesome in the photos and be used again and again after the wedding. There wasn’t a huge amount of choice for us, but this idea stayed with me and, on a very cold October morning we decided to just go for it and start Good Morning Beautiful. Originally we were going to focus solely on brides and their bridal parties – with the name ‘Married in the Morn’ – but out on a long ‘business chat’ walk I exclaimed to Fiachra “Women should feel beautiful every day, not just on their wedding day!” Good Morning Beautiful’s personality – and mission – really was formed from that point onwards.

.

.

Katharine Peachey for Good Morning Beautiful

.

.

What is the Good Morning Beautiful “philosophy”?

.

We know we won’t change the world one dressing gown at a time, but our philosophy is that every woman deserves to feel beautiful, every day. We believe that the simple act of popping on a gorgeous gown can make your day feel a little brighter and make you feel a little more beautiful. You don’t have to be a particular shape, size or ‘look’ to look and feel gorgeous in our gowns and that, I think, is the beauty of them.

.

.

Katharine Peachey for Good Morning Beautiful

.

.

Tell us about your range of gowns, fabric, colours and styles?

.

Our first collection, the Rosalie collection, consists of a bright floral print in five colours (white, black, red, blue, purple) and two styles, long and short. The dressing gowns are made from soft Indian cotton here in the UK. We plan, over the next few months, to introduce our second collection so stay tuned!

.

.

Katharine Peachey for Good Morning Beautiful

.

.

Where are your gowns produced?

.

Right here in good ole Blighty! It was really important to us to support the UK manufacturing industry and guarantee the very best quality for our customers. The UK manufacturing industry has some really fantastic characters, many of whom are carrying on family businesses, and we are proud to be involved in it.

.

.

Katharine Peachey for Good Morning Beautiful

.

.

All the models on your site are your real life friends (and very nice they look too)!  Why did you decide on this approach?

.

Quite frankly, I was tired of seeing models and thinking ‘but I’ll never look like her in that’! As our philosophy is that every woman deserves to feel beautiful, every day, why not use ‘real women’ to show off our gowns? Our gowns come in sizes 8-22 and we wanted to reflect, in our website, what we believe as a company. The main model was actually one of my bridesmaids, too, as were three of the others! It was fantastic to be surrounded by friends during the photo-shoot, too. Our photographer was Katharine Peachey again, as we loved her so much after our wedding, my friend Gemma Conley-Smith, who works in fashion, styled the shots and my pal Anna Allen (www.skinandblisterblog.com) was in charge of hair and make-up. My ‘veil lady’, the wonderful Margaret Byrne over at Sale-based Dream Veils lent me veils to use – it really was a family affair!

.

.

.

Why should a bride choose to wear a Good Morning Beautiful gown on her wedding day?

.

The feeling a bride gets on her wedding morning is second to none. There’s excitement, a little nervousness and a strange amount of calm – all going on at once! The last thing you want to feel is self-conscious when people are popping in and out and you’re sitting there in your hair rollers and no make up on! Our dressing gowns are so easy to take on and off, protecting your hair and make-up, and add a touch of glamour to start your day off in the best way. Wearing a gown will also mean that every time you wear it post-wedding you’ll be reminded of your big day – particularly if you take it on honeymoon! One of our brides told me that her husband loves when she wears her gown around the house because it always reminds him of their incredible honeymoon, which is pretty awesome!

.

.

.

Do they make good gifts for the bridal party?

.

Our dressing gowns make fantastic gifts for the bridal party because they are, first and foremost, gorgeous! They are fantastic mementos from the day that will make your best girls feel special, and, importantly, more relaxed in front of your photographer that they might be in old PJs. The dressing gowns are ageless, so equally appropriate for your mum or grandma, or your 15 year old bridesmaid, and they add a special touch to the getting ready preparations. My big bit of advice, however, is don’t forget the mums – they will care! (My mum now has two to make up for my previous oversight!)

.

.

Katharine Peachey for Good Morning Beautiful

.

.

What sizes are available?

.

Our sizes run from a size 8-22 and, as we have two lengths (knee and ankle length) we can cater for most heights, too.

.

Can you give Brides Up North an idea on price? Can you do a discount for Brides Up North readers?

.

The short dressing gowns are £54 and the long gowns are £60, including postage and packaging to a UK address.

.

I loved Brides Up North when I was planning my wedding (particularly as we moved to Hale 8 weeks before the big day!) and so we’d love to offer your readers a 10% discount for purchases made before 1st September, using discount code BRIDESUPNORTH10 at the checkout.

.

.

.

What can Brides Up North expect when they use your service?

.

.

How does Good Morning Beautiful provide a superior experience to other online accessory retailers?

.

We really care about the personal touch. I have so many of our customers emailing me about sizing, or colour suggestions, or just to say hello and every email or tweet back comes directly from me. Wedding planning – and indeed present buying – can get stressful at times, so I see it as my job to take that stress away and just leave our customers with beautiful dressing gowns they can treasure.

.

.

How are your products packaged?

Elizabeth Sparkle Belt by Sash & Co

.

.

Why and when did you decide to launch Liberty In Love and what is your background?

.

For most brides, their wedding day is a pivotal moment in their lives. My own big day (which took place in a spectacular caldera view cliff-top in Santorini in 2007) was just that – and much more besides. It was the inspiration behind my dream business, a stylish online bridal accessories boutique.

.

I have always loved accessories.  When I was a little girl, I carried my treasured red vanity case around with me everywhere until it quite literally fell apart. I even had a habit of wearing new shoes to bed, such was my reluctance to be parted from them.  So, when it came to my wedding many years on, I happily developed a magpie-like obsession with accessories and all-things stylish and sparkly.

.

It was from my wedding that the seed was planted.  After our big amazing day, I quickly settled into married life and continued working as a Business Development Manager at a design agency in Cheshire.  But, even a couple of years on, my idea for a stylish online boutique that offered ‘everything but the dress’ just would not fade.  Then, suddenly somehow, the planets seem to align and it suddenly felt like a case of ‘now or never’.  I quit my job and launched my business.  The website went live in April 2010 and I’m thrilled to say that Liberty in Love has truly gone from strength to strength.  And three years on, dealing with brides and working with some of the industry’s most incredible talent, it’s still as exciting as those early days.

.

.

How do you select the products that are featured in your online shop?  Tell us about the process?

.

These days, we are fortunate to be approached by many amazing designers and I always like to meet with the designers and view samples.  Having dealt with thousands of brides, we have a good feel of what will work.  Needless to say, we are very particular about quality – only the best quality and most stylish will do and there’s plenty that don’t make the grade. We attend all the key trade shows to hunt for new designers.  I also spend far too much time reading wedding blogs and magazines in the name of research…

.

.

What bridal accessories are available to buy at Liberty In Love?

.

At Liberty in Love, we sell ‘everything but the dress’.  Our website is brimming with bridal must-haves that make stylish finishing details.  Our collections include wedding hair accessories, jewellery, veils, cover-ups and bridal sashes, bridal lingerie, shoes and bags.  Also, our gorgeous gift ideas are really popular, and are ideal with brides, bridesmaids and mums.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Each of our 700-piece collection has been chosen for its beautiful style and exceptional quality, and is made using the finest materials, such as freshwater pearl, Swarovski crystal, silks and laces and vintage trims.  As most of the pieces are handmade, many designs can be customised to suit individual requirements.  For example, with sizing, crystal/pearl colour, etc.  We always encourage customers to get in touch if they love something but it isn’t quite right somehow, as there’s a good chance that we can help.

.

.

Liberty In Love Bridal Accessories

.

.

Liberty In Love Bridal Accessories

.

.

Tell us about some of the designers that you stock?

.

We work with some of the most talented independent designers in the industry. Our designers include Stephanie Browne, Peter Lang, Victoria Fergusson, Harriet Wilde, Florrie Mitton, Emmy, Halo & Co, Freya Rose and Ivory & Co

.

In my opinion, these names lead the way when it comes to design and craftsmanship. Some of these designers produce the most beautiful classic pieces that are exquisite heirloom pieces in the making, whilst other designers make incredible statement creations that simply take your breath away.  Whichever designer at Liberty in Love you choose, you can be assured of beautiful quality and style.

.

.

What bridal accessory trends have been popular in 2012 and what trends do you see emerging in 2013 and beyond?

.

Vintage as a broad style was an enduring theme in 2012 and this shows no sign of slowing.  But, Art Deco style is definitely a key trend for 2013.  As well as the Art Deco aesthetic that brides find so appealing, Art Deco accessories are very versatile.  Depending on how you style the accessories, you can be as classic or as fashion-forward as you like.

.

.

Liberty In Love Bridal Accessories

.

.

To work the look, I would choose a designer like Emmy, whose style heritage is embedded in that era. Or, look to a designer such as Stephanie Browne, who has been creating amazing Art Deco led bridal accessories for many years, and whose couture pieces have an enduring quality.  This year, Stephanie Browne has just introduced the Art Deco Alice band and Art Deco cufflinks which match the popular Art Deco earrings in her existing collection.  These pieces are just gorgeous – I’ve already ordered of the Art Deco cufflinks for my husband!

.

.

Can you give Brides Up North an idea on price?

.

As well as high end pricier pieces, we also stock lower price point items, which means there’s something to suit most pockets.  For example, bridal hair combs range from £30 to £345.  If you are working to a particular budget, then you can very easily refine your search on our website by price.

.

.

What can Brides Up North expect when they use your service?

.

Our aim is to get it totally perfect for our customers and minimise any accessories-related stress.  Having been there myself, I totally understand the importance of providing a first rate customer service.  After all, it’s such an important occasion and brides put themselves under immense pressure to get things right.  We are absolutely committed to delivering a fantastic service to our customers. Where required, we provide styling advice to customers, to help whittle down those choices.  I do know that some brides find this aspect of our service extremely helpful.  We also offer a 14 day No-Quibble returns policy, which means if you don’t absolutely love your chosen pieces, we are happy to exchange or refund.  This includes made-to-order items (but excludes bespoke pieces).  Finally, it’s also worth mentioning that we offer a next day delivery for many pieces – perfect for brides in a hurry!

.

.

What is your current favourite piece and why?

.

I have so many favourites, it’s so hard to choose.  But if I were getting married again tomorrow, I think I would find the Martha t-bar shoes by Harriet Wilde, the Elizabeth bridal sash by Sash & Co, the Windsor bandeau and Paris pearl bracelet by Stephanie Browne hard to resist.  And, I would definitely treat myself to our Dahlia bride ruffle knickers with bow detail and personalised crystal letters by Gilda and Pearl!

Is there a particular style that has been immediately popular with your customers?  What is your best-selling piece?

.

Our customers love anything classic and pretty with a vintage twist.  Also, our personalised bridal lingerie has also been popular.  In terms of best sellers, it’s been the Kelly pearl earrings and Kelly pearl bracelet by Stephanie Browne, part of the Kelly collection inspired by Grace Kelly.  Also, the Autumn side tiara headband by Halo & Co and Aphrodite garter by Florrie Mitton.

.

How does Liberty In Love provide a superior experience to other online accessory retailers? What is your philosophy?

.

My guiding philosophy has always been to put the customer at the heart of what we do, which means that our service is very much designed around the needs of our brides. This means having:

.

A wide selection of gorgeous accessories that she can pick from (and fall in love with!)

.

An enjoyable website browsing experience, with superior photography that showcases our collections beautifully

.

Prompt delivery and professional yet friendly communications with us

.

And although we are online, we do also offer a tailored, personal service of boutique-style shopping, where this is required.

.

.

Do you stock pieces that would be appropriate for Bridesmaids?  What would you recommend?

.

Yes, we do, our ranges cater really well for bridesmaids!  When it comes to choosing bridesmaids accessories and jewellery, there’s no rules as such.  It’s not necessarily about being overly ‘matchy-matchy’ as I think a mix-and-match approach allows you to bring in the individual style and personality of each bridesmaid.  That said, it’s good idea to complement the bridal look/overall theme and perhaps select slightly more understated versions of what the bride’s wearing.

.

.

Acorn Earrings by Victoria Fergusson

.

In terms of what’s been popular, we’ve sold the London pendant necklace, Bellini bracelet and Acorn earrings for many bridesmaids (all by Victoria Fergusson).  These are very simple and classic and a great choice if the bride is wearing pearls too.  Also, the Victoria I headpiece by Sash & Co, which can be worn as a classic headband or in a more bohemian style, has sold really well for brides and bridesmaids alike.

What about Mother of The Bride?  What would you recommend?

.

For mums, I would pick out elegant and sophisticated pieces in a style that she would love. I love the Triple ivory pearl strand choker necklace with fan bow motif (NE9589) by Peter Lang and Short ivory pearl drop with cabochon wing earrings by (EA5269) Peter Lang.

Anything else that Brides Up North should know?

.

I’m really proud that Liberty in Love was the North West winner in The 2013 Wedding Industry Awards for the category of ‘Best Bridal Accessories’. I’m particularly thrilled as The Wedding Industry Awards is the only client-voted national awards in the industry.  We had so much support from our brides and that was utterly brilliant in itself.  Oh, and not to mention the great party that we enjoyed earlier this year in London with some of the industry’s very finest!
