The Vintage Garden. A Contemporary Styled Bridal Shoot In Lancashire

January 23rd, 2014 | Julia Braime

CT Images

This morning we are bringing vintage styling up to date with a modern beauty twist as we join a collective of North West wedding industry suppliers for a last wedding breakfast at a Lancashire landmark venue.

Alison McMath will be just one of our fabulous suppliers at our Brides Up North Luxury & Vintage Bridal Exhibitions in the North West this Spring, make sure to put the date in your diary and pre-register now!

Cheshire 2014

But back to today’s action first.  Cat of CT Images says:  We are an all female wedding industry team in the Lancashire area and we wanted to play around with concepts of ‘vintage’ and bringing the past up-to-date.

CT Images

CT Images

The shoot took place as the last pictures ever to be taken at Pickerings Country Hotel in Garstang, which has been the setting for numerous weddings over the years. The overgrown English country and apple-laden garden became the backdrop for the autumn shoot.

CT Images

We wanted to demonstrate that contemporary hair and makeup styling can give vintage bridal gowns a new lease of life, freeing them of any constraints. The hairstyles took inspiration from different past eras and were all linked together with a more contemporary and daring bridal makeup style. Definitely more adventurous but still in keeping with beauty and romance, which is what every bride desires on her wedding day.

Wedding Blog Giveaway: An Evening Of Swing With Glen Roughead

August 13th, 2013 | Julia Braime

An Evening Of Swing

Those of you who’ve attended one of our brilliant Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibitions recently (or our Tweet Ups, or our Christmas Party come to think of it… we can’t get enough of this chap!) will have been wowed by the better-than-Buble tones of Glen Roughead, the New Face of Swing.

Looking for a wedding singer who looks the part, has tons of personality and can do acoustic and swing in his sleep?  Glen’s your man.

Mr Roughead and I have become firm friends since I started inviting him to sing at (seemingly every one!) of our events, and so it was with great excitement that I heard about his Evening of Swing at Newcastle’s Live Theatre on 23rd August 2013.

The event’s a complete sell out, but here at Brides Up North, we’ve got our hands on the very last pair of tickets.  And we’re giving them away!

If you fancy checking Glen out as a potential wedding singer (or just checking Glen out!), a date night with a difference or a way to say thank you to someone who has been invaluable in your wedding planning process (Mum’s love Glen, just ask mine) then this giveaway is for you!

There’s not long till the event, so all you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is leave a comment on this post telling us why you’d like the tickets.  Easy.

The competition will close at 12noon this Friday 16th August 2013 and we’ll pick a winner at random. No cash alternative, judge’s decision is final.

Good Luck!

You can also catch Glen at our Luxury & Vintage Wedding Exhibition at The Alnwick Garden on Sunday 1st September 2013.  Click here for all the details and to pre-register for Free Entry as a VIP Bride To Be.

Regular readers of the wedding blog will know that I work very closely with a fabulous catering company and their associated venues in the Yorkshire area – Dine – to bring you a full season of Spring and Autumn luxury wedding exhibitions each year.

.

In fact, we might just have some coming up shortly…

Now, as you can see above, our wedding exhibition season proper doesn’t kick off till September this year (big events at each venue packed with exhibitors showcasing exactly what they can do), but if you are on a venue hunt and keen to see why the Dine difference can make your event super special before then, why not pop along to the team’s open evening, this Thursday 25th July at The Mansion, Roundhay Park?

.

This is a chance to see the venue in all it’s designer glory in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.  Don’t worry about getting the hard sell, this place sells itself!  Drop in for a drink and some award winning nibbles and see for yourself.

.

.

The Life & Times Of A Wedding Blogger: Behind The Blog – June 2013

June 5th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

(c) Brides Up North

Scoping out our brand new venue en famille!

.

So, the last sneak peek behind the scenes here at Brides Up North HQ was back in January, when I was busy preparing for the Spring season of branded bridal events ahead, moving into a new home and new offices and cooking a little Brides Up North baby (yes, a BUN in the oven)!

.

The first of our nine Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibitions this Spring welcomed the season in style at the gorgeous Allerton Castle, and Baby Brides Up North (Little Miss Annabella Robyn) arrived a month later, 12 days overdue.  Luckily I now have help on the admin and events side so have been able to enjoy a lovely first few months with my baby girl, whilst honouring my writing and freelance commitments.  It’s a good job, because things don’t look set to slow down any time soon!  With more (really very) excellent Featured Suppliers in our Directory than ever before and a huge Twitter and Facebook following, there has never been a better time to visit this here wedding blog and enlist our help in planning and inspiring your wedding in the North of the UK.

.

This has been our best season of Brides Up North branded events yet at a really diverse and beautiful portfolio of venues.  Since the brand is going from strength to strength I can afford to be picky and work with only the most stunning, unique or quirky venues.  As well as our usual huge shows in the North East and our work with the gorgeous Dine Venues in Yorkshire, new additions to the schedule this Spring included The Bowdon Rooms in Cheshire (a vintage dance hall), beautiful Thorp Perrow and The National Railway Museum in York, which blew guests and exhibitors alike away with it’s beautiful and unexpected setting.

.

There’s one last show to go (the cherry on top!) this Sunday 9th June 2013 at Sarah Beeny’s Rise Hall from 12pm till 4pm, free entry.  Pre-registration is now open, and we would love to see you there.

.

We’ll be back on 1st September with another full season of events in your areas, plus some brand new dates and will be spending the summer completing and launching a few very pretty projects.  Watch out for news on both soon.

.

Until then, enjoy your double daily dose of wedding inspiration on these swirly silver pages and this little sneak peek behind the scenes at my crazy, happy life.  The Northern Revolution rumbles on…

Frosted Romance At Thorp Perrow: A Beautiful Brides Up North Wedding Inspiration Shoot

April 30th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Thorp Perrow by Joe Dodsworth Photography

.

.

Now, you now I’m not really a fan of a repost (and I shared this winter glamour bridal inspiration shoot with you following the Brides Up North Christmas party) but I’ve got a really rather lovely Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition coming up at this absolutely stunning stately home and gardens – Thorp Perrow, a new, authentic and exclusive private wedding venue in the heart of Bedale –  and wanted to remind you why you need to be there on Sunday 12th May!

The venue was the stunning house at Thorp Perrow, where I was lucky enough to host the Brides Up North Christmas Party just a day later (click here for a full catch up and photographs from that sparkling event).

On May 12th, you’ll get to see this venue in all it’s blooming Summer glory (more on that soon), but to illustrate it’s beauty in Winter too we chose an almost frozen look, working with natural winter light, the pale pastel decor of the venue and the almost ethereal beauty of our two models, Ruth Sturdy and Alexandra Ellis.

I was thinking Russian princesses, a wintery Marie Antoinette, the Snow Queen’s court, Faberge egg colours and gilding and er, Kylie Minogue in January’s Elle Magazine. One thing’s for sure – it worked!

We were also joined on site by the talent of Deborah of Love On Location, who was responsible for the amazing hair styling, the fabulous team at Curvy Bridal who provided all the breath taking gowns, accessories, shoes and head pieces (as well as working like troopers all day) and the supremely talented Jo of Twisted Willow Floristry, who dressed the venue with her floral creations ready for the following evening’s party while we styled things up.

So first, a peep behind the scenes (and yes, we DID keep our coats on…to keep the venue cool for those lovely flowers) and then to some rather fine art photography.  I’m thinking that Vogue is calling…
