In The News: Brides Up North Is Voted Best UK Wedding Blog For Northern Brides By Channel 4Beauty!

January 6th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

The day before Christmas Eve, this was feeling super stressed.  There were invoices to send, invoices to pay, blogs to write, emails to answer, a scary server switch (which happily, now has the wedding blog running far speedier!), rooms to tidy, a huge pile of unwritten Christmas cards, bags to pack, presents to wrap and I still hadn’t finished my Christmas shopping.  Result:  Near festive meltdown. They could shove their mince pies where the sun doesn’t shine as far as I was concerned.

.

Then *ping!* another ruddy email.

.

But suddenly, there was calm.  Then some shouts of glee.  Christmas was back on!

.

Thank you 4Beauty for making it all seem worthwhile, as Brides Up North, along with some other fab blogger friends, was recognised in their Best Wedding Blogs 2011 roundup as the Best Wedding Blog for Northern Brides.

.

And so it came to pass, 2011 was the year that 4Beauty saved Christmas.

A Fairy-lit Fiesta! – The #BUNtweetup North East

September 28th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

The fairy lights were strung, the champagne was on ice and a gazillion candles had been lit.  It was time for the third and final Brides Up North Tweet Up 2011 with Wedding Ideas Magazine, and it was set to be a very twinkly one…

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Karen McGowran Photography

.

.

Each host venue chosen for the Brides Up North Tweet Ups (see all the images here) was handpicked for a reason – Didsbury House for its girly gorgeousness,  The Mansion, Roundhay for its quality and style and this venue, The Black Horse, Beamish, for its intimate, chocolate box charm.

.

Although the decor for each and every Tweet Up featured brilliant blooms, pearls, crystals, a whole lot of sugar and admittedly, a lot of pink, each had it’s own unique styling and special added extras.

.

To enhance the cosy countryside feel of the North East venue, I let there be light.  And lots of it.  Candles and fairy lights covered every surface, beam, wagon wheel and wishing tree!  TOP TIP: brides to be on a budget – if you can’t spend much on flowers, consider festooning your venue with fairy lights to create a stunning visual effect for less.  String them generously, add some candles and turn the main lights low.  Instant Disneyland, and pure romance.

Once again, I couldn’t have pulled this off singlehandedly. HUGE HUGE thanks and love to these fabulous wedding industry greats, who provided so much help, support and general hand holding:

.

.

It seems I don’t get out of bed in the morning without a fabulous team behind me these days!

.

Enjoy the details…

Brides Up North BOOTCAMP is coming!

August 22nd, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

I get a lot of emails from my readers asking how I got in shape for my wedding day.  The honest answer? A lot of running and a lot of luck, as I had no real clue how to lose weight, tone up and eat sensibly for optimum results.

.

It seems that a lot of ladies are trying to shape up for their big day, but don’t know where to start, lack motivation or are just downright confused by the masses of conflicting “wedding diet” information out there.  To carb or not to carb?  Lift heavy or light? Weight Watchers or Dukan?  Honestly,  it’s enough to have you reaching for a family sized bar of Cadburys.

.

I decided that it was time to call in the professionals.

.

.

BUN Bootcamp

.

.

Girls, I bring you:  Brides Up North Bootcamp with Motive 8 North Personal Training.

.

Brides Up North Bootcamp is a twelve week fitness and eating plan devised by Personal Trainer Jenny Cromack of Motive 8 North for brides to be (and bridesmaids!).  Whether you want to shed the pounds or just tone up before your wedding day, this programme will help you to achieve results.

.

Starting next Sunday PM and for the next 12 weeks, we will bring you a weekly set of exercise and healthy eating targets all designed to help you to feel fab on your big day.

.

We have made Brides Up North Bootcamp as simple to follow from home as possible and you can tailor the plan to suit your personal goals and timetable.  Jenny will be talking you through each exercise and I’ll be posting lots of photographs to help you achieve the correct form.  The eating plan will feature a series of interchangeable options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks as well as helpful hints on eating out.

.

.

motive8_North_2

.

.

And who will be the guinea pig?  Why, this little of course.  I will keep a weekly diary of my progress, vital stats and those all embarrassing before and after shots.  After all, if I can do it – so can you!

.

Watch out for the Brides Up North Bootcamp pages appearing in the pink toolbar at the top of the blog this week, as we countdown to Week 1.  In these pages as the 12 weeks progress you’ll find links to every featured exercise, weekly programme and the eating plan to help you stay on track as well as downloadable fitness and diet diaries, my progress and my journal.

.

.

.

.

Sound like a plan?  Here’s what you’ll need to get started next Sunday:

.

A set of two 3kg dumbbells

A 75cm stability ball

A good pair of trainers

Lightweight exercise clothing including a good sports bra

A yoga mat for floor exercises (optional)

.

You’ll find exercise equipment in most sports shops or at Argos.  I’ve just given you a license to shop.

Delicious Details: The Brides Up North Tweet Up North West…And What The Twitteratti Said…

August 8th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Last night’s first ever Brides Up North Tweet Up North West with Wedding Ideas Magazine was, I’m relieved to say, a resounding success.

.

The pre-registration list for the next North West event is, unbelievably, already starting to fill!  If you want to come along, get your name down!

.

Thank you so so much to everyone who came along to support the event and packed out the beautiful host venue, Didsbury House Hotel (scroll down to this morning’s post to see their Dream Venue interview), and to my fabulous support team: All Wrapped Up Events, The Didsbury Flower Lounge, What A Do Weddings, The English Rose Bakery, Love Gets Sweeter Wedding Films and last but not least, Jenny & Keith McAvoy Wedding Photographers

.

A full round up of the night is coming up later on the week (once I have had a chance to draw breath) but in the meantime, here is a sneak peek at some of the delicious styling details (be inspired, these looks are easy to create for your own sugar spun wedding or celebration!) and what just some of the Twitteratti had to say about it!

Babe In The Wood! A Real Wedding – Sylvia & Dave

August 4th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Tobiah Tayo

.

.

Manchester based wedding photographer and friend of the wedding blog Tobiah Tayo sent Brides Up North this absolutely beautiful castle wedding which took place just over a month ago to share today. Congratulations to the newlywed Sylvia and Dave!  If you haven’t come across Tobiah’s work before, head over to their lovely blog and have a browse.  Just amazing – I have never seen a ceremony room bedecked quite so gorgeously!

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Tobiah Tayo

.

.

Tobiah tells the tale: The wedding was held at Peckforton Castle on 1 July 2011.  Peckforton Castle was victim of an arson attack just two weeks before the wedding which nearly meant the venue had to be moved! You can imagine how stressful that was!

Fortunately Sylvia and Dave could still use the castle for the ceremony and relocated to a marquee for the evening reception.  It was a wonderful day.
