For today’s Friday Fabulous we’re turning our attention to brides’ leading ladies, as it’s important for a girl and all her #squad to look and feel amazing too, right?

So for those in search of beautiful dresses in a gorgeous range of colours, styles and fabrics to suit all ages, we give you the stunning bridesmaid collection from our wonderful Sponsor, Amanda Wyatt.

amanda-wyatt-bridesmaids-8

Made famous for her perfect fit, British designer Amanda doesn’t stop at providing a dream dress for the bride, but for adult and teenage bridesmaids, plus cute little flower girls too! The beautiful gowns are sure to please all, with short and full length designs to choose from, featuring pretty detailing in pleated bodices, illusion necklines and dreamy tulle skirts.

Perfect for those wanting to mix and match their maids, brides can pick one style in a variety of different colours, or alternatively chose just one hue but mix up the dress designs with short sleeve, twisted strap and bateau neckline options, to name but a few.

We have to say the star of the show for us in these new campaign images has to be the sweet little flower girl, particularly the shot of her slipping into those gold sparkly heels – a girl after our own hearts for sure!

little flower. a bridesmaid launch by damigella d’onore

June 5th, 2015 | Julia Braime

Damigella D'Onore by Joanne B Photography (11)

This Friday on the blog, its all about the little people. Brides Up North Exhibitor Elena of Damigella D’onore has relaunched her flower girl range for 2015 and shares it with us today in this special shoot by Joanne B Photography, starring their daughters Sienna and Grace.

Damigella D'Onore by Joanne B Photography (42)

Elena has over 18 years of professional sewing experience behind her and now specialises in designing and making couture bridal wear. Mainly based in Yorkshire, she also covers the UK and has made dresses for clients from all over the world, including celebrities. Elena works closely with each individual client to create beautiful unique dresses using the flattering classic techniques of couture tailoring; which suit their individual style and perfectly complements each bride and their wedding day.

For her new flower girl range, Elena’s aim was to create a classic collection which would stand the test of time. All the dresses are handmade from the highest quality silk, using couture tailoring techniques; ensuring that the dresses are beautifully crafted and finished to a very high standard. Each dress can be enhanced to suit each individual girls taste, by the use of handmade silk or lace roses, bows, sashes or belts.

Damigella D'Onore by Joanne B Photography (51)

elena says: Joanne’s daughter, Grace, modelled the dresses alongside my daughter Sienna. As soon as the girls met they got on so well, which made the day 100 times more fun. They couldn’t wait to try the dresses on and I think that you’d agree that they just made the cutest models that you’d ever seen.

Damigella D'Onore by Joanne B Photography (22)

As a location for the shoot, we were hosted by the very lovely Nikki Nelson, who owns the stylish vintage Cakes d’ licious, a 1940’s themed, family run tearoom and cakery in York. Not only is it a fantastic tearoom, with a trendy retro décor, Nikki makes the most divine wedding cakes and afternoon teas, and boy they were yummy!

Damigella D'Onore by Joanne B Photography (5)

Sienna & Grace’s hair was styled by Amy Jackson, a freelance hairstylist based in Leeds, who jumped at the chance to come and do the girls’ hair for us. Amy was fantastic with the girls, making them feel very comfortable whilst making their hair look gorgeous. I have never seen my daughter sit so still whilst having her hair done!

Damigella D'Onore by Joanne B Photography (20)

There was no set theme for the day as the tearoom had a vintage feel to it, so we chose to the let the venue influence the shoot. Nikki set up a sweet little tea party for the girls, with sandwiches, cakes and orange juice served in a vintage teapot and tea set. The girls loved it! They were so happy having their lunch together.

Damigella D'Onore by Joanne B Photography (43)

The shoot was enhanced by the beautiful flowers which were made by Allison from Wild Floral Couture. I have known Allison for a few years now and have worked together previously so when we thought of flowers I knew Allison would be the perfect person. She surpassed herself by making up the cutest prettiest little bouquets for the girls to hold. The colours of the flowers perfectly complimented the vintage cakes that Nikki made, and highlighted the dresses, bringing the shoot together beautifully.

Damigella D'Onore by Joanne B Photography (68)

The girls had a fantastic day and loved posing in front of the camera. Joanne was amazing at directing the girls with such ease and confidence, which shows, through the fabulous images that we have. I am so pleased with the how the day went, everyone was happy and worked so well together. The dresses looked amazing on the girls, and the details really shone through. It was fantastic to see the girls looking so pretty, twirling round enjoying the moment, which is why I loved the day!

Bespoke Bridesmaids! An Exclusive First Look At The New Collection By Jessica Bennett Bespoke Bride

May 27th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Jessica Bennett Bespoke Bride

This afternoon I’m excited to be bringing you a sneak peek at the newest bridesmaids’ collection from one of my sponsors, Jessica Bennett Bespoke Bride.  We’ve heard from Jessica before about the benefits of going bespoke for your bridal gown, and now your bridesmaids can get involved too.

We’d usually wait for a full set of editorial images before leaking news of any big launch, but the lovely ladies at Jessica Bennett Bespoke Bride have agreed to share some preview images on these pretty pages first.

Very special and super exclusive, this is a small collection which encompasses styles and silhouettes to suit every type of wedding and bridesmaid. Within the collection there are styles that can be worn together for those brides that wish to mix and match or there are styles that can be tweaked and altered to suit each bridesmaid when a group girls are being asked to wear the same dress.

I’ve a feeling your best girls are going to love these…

Jessica Bennett Bespoke Bride

Jessica says: We have found that our clients love the opportunity to tweak the designs to make them extra unique and bespoke to their wedding. Our brides are able to choose the colours and fabrics and what type of support the dresses have.  Most of the dresses in the collection can have extra boning in the bodice to give additional support and a super luxe finish.

Jessica Bennett Bespoke Bride

When designing the collection we wanted to try and move away from the traditional bridesmaid’s dress to a collection whereby the girls themselves will love the dresses they are being asked to wear and feel comfortable knowing they can alter the designs to best suit their body shape and feel at their best.

Jessica Bennett Bespoke Bride

We’re really excited to be able to launch this range in addition to our couture wedding dress service. The collection will continue to expand over the coming months as we introduce new designs.

Bridesmaid Mecca. High Street Honey: Coast

January 17th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Researching for our regular Friday Fabulous feature is no great hardship –  I love scouring the interwebs for the prettiest new things.  It sometimes hurts my credit card, but other than that, the pleasure is all mine.  Chancing upon something really rather lovely from Coast for this afternoon’s coveted spot (wait and see), I decided to stick around and browse the rest of this High Street Honey’s new Spring collection.

High Street Honey Coast S14

All dresses by Coast:  Amorette, in naturals, £150; Venus, in yellow, £95; Riley, in orange, £135; Poppy, in green, £125; Tulia, in pink, £165; Mandy, in naturals, £125; Glamour Bow, in orange, £160; Lori Lee Lace, in grey, £125; Mirabella, in yellow, £125; Aloisa, in white, £350; Carraway, in blue/ silver, £160; Darling, in white, £295

As I said at the end of last year, in 2014 I’ll be checking out all the most popular High Street retailers (and lesser known online finds too) and picking our favourite looks for, so that you don’t have to.  No gorgeous gowns get past me!  Whether it’s bridesmaids dresses you need, a frock for your reception dinner or heading off on honeymoon, we’ll have it covered.

Let me tell you ladies, if you are in the market for bridesmaid dresses this season, I think we’ve just found heaven.  Usually strong on this front, those fabulous people at Coast HQ have just raised the bar that little bit higher.

The lines come in sizes 6 to 18, are pretty affordable and with a new petites range just added, this wedding blogger is seriously impressed.  Here’s my top picks for maids and mates.  Gather your girls, but hands off Riley, she’s all mine!

Watch The Birdy! A Real twobirds Christmas Wedding: Michelle & David

January 5th, 2012 | Julia Braime

Friend of the wedding blog, Michelle from twobirds Bridesmaid, got in touch over the festive period to see if I would like to feature her gorgeous Real Wedding.  If you haven’t heard of twobirds Bridesmaid, you have had your head in the sand!  They make adaptable, beautiful bridesmaid dresses in one size, that can be twisted and wrapped to create lots of unique styles – perfect for all sizes and shapes.

.

Well! I couldn’t wait to see what this pretty lady’s own Real Wedding looked like, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Michelle tells all:  David proposed in Sydney, Australia on a sunny Christmas morning 2008. We were on a year’s trip travelling around the world together and my engagement ring was my final present from David. He had gone to so much effort to have it made in New Zealand and delivered to a hostel we were staying in all while keeping it secret fro me.

.

Sydney is my favourite city in the world so it was amazing that David proposed there and now every Christmas morning feels even more special.

We were married on 26 November 2010 at The Crazy Bear Hotel,Stadhampton – we knew we wanted a winter wedding straight away, there are so many in the summer and we felt the end of November was a nice way to kick off the party season! It turned out to be a perfect choice with a beautifully crisp winters day with the lightest dusting of snow!

.

The venue is a really contemporary boutique hotel and has such a warm feel to it, perfect for a winters wedding. The place itself is so interesting that we had to do very little to decorate it.

.

We looked at no others! We knew people that had stayed there previously and raved about both the hotel and the food, we tried to stay a couple of years before we were married and it was fully booked but we saw they hosted weddings.  The minute we returned from travelling, we booked to see it as a venue and as soon as the finer details were ironed out we booked straight away.  It’s such a fun place and people talk about it all the time a year on! The food, the ambience, the space were all perfect for what we wanted, a relaxed, fun, great do,with amazing food and drink.

I was a nightmare bride, I realise this having come to work in the wedding industry now! I tried so many dresses, mostly with flowers on and insisting I wouldn’t go strapless. I ended up going strapless not with flowers! I wanted something different and in the end I found it at The National Wedding Show, shopping for last minute bits for my best friend’s wedding which was six months before mine. It’s a Maggie Sottero dress which had been long discontinued and stored in a store’s cupboard.  It was white with black satin at the waist and around the train giving it a Chanel effect! It was six sizes too big but I found a wonderful seamstress.

I carried orange and white calla lilies, just a handful of stems tied with some of the black and white fabric taken off of my train.

My bridesmaids were in twobirds Bridesmaid. This purchase led to my life changing completely and subsequent to being a customer, I was offered the job of running twobirds in Europe! I swiftly put my ten years in banking behind me and jumped head first into this amazing industry.

.

My maids of course looked stunning in these fantastically versatile dresses. One had just given birth and was so comfortable and glad she had no fittings to go to! They tied in beautifully with the theme in a rich chocolate brown colour, all worn long and tied in various styles.

We used a really eclectic mix of suppliers and none of them well known! Our cake maker I met in the queue in Sainsburys, she’s a local mum with the most talent and enthusiasm I’ve ever come across, she worked tirelessly for days on our cake to capture the finest detail of our travels, even creating mini passports with all the stamps. We had a pianist who was a student from the nearby Oxford University, a photographer (Taphouse Photography) who was in his first year solo and captured some amazing images.

.

.

twobirds Bridesmaid/ Taphouse Photography

.

.

We had a basket of sparkly flip flops on the dance floor to soothe tired dancing feet and pashminas to keep people warm if they needed to go outside (the naughty smokers!).

.

.

twobirds Bridesmaid/ Taphouse Photography

.

.

twobirds Bridesmaid/ Taphouse Photography

.

.

We made our own centrepieces, purchasing dozens of vases and hundreds of baubles to fill them.  Surrounded by tea lights they sparkled all night!

.

Our tables were named after places we had travelled and each had a silly photo from that place and the escort cards were paper postal tags with little travel stickers on, the foamy kind I used to love as a child.

.

.

twobirds Bridesmaid/ Taphouse Photography

.

.

Our cake was epic! It weight 30 kilos, took five days to make and was absolutely delicious. Debbie Cakes as she shall always be known surpassed our wildest expectations. We had three tiers of suitcases, Carrot, Lemon Sponge and Coffee (used for desert). Each layer and the surround was adorned with edible pieces made of our memories of our travels, from a huge Las Vegas sign to us in our North Face Jackets and a map wrapping around the largest tier with our actual route mapped out. For two nights before we collected it we kept wanting to sneak a peak through her window but she insisted it be a surprise and we were totally overwhelmed when we picked it up – we both cried! Getting it in to the car and to our venue 1.5 hours away was one of the scariest moments of my life, it took up the whole boot!

There are too many to pick just one favourite moment from the day.  Walking into the room and seeing all our friends and family, and David standing so handsome and tall has to be up there! The food was sublime, the dancing was so much fun, just seeing everyone enjoying themselves and looking so relaxed and taking in everything we had spent to much time creating.

.

.

twobirds Bridesmaid/ Taphouse Photography

Our evening entertainment, Discquartet, were brilliant. Essentially there is the DJ who works with you prior to the day to garner your requirements and he also takes care of the ceremony music. He then has a four piece band who play with him so you get a real mix of sounds and they get amongst the crowd too – they created an amazing atmosphere and I had a lot of fun on their bongos later on!!

.

.

twobirds Bridesmaid/ Taphouse Photography

.

.

We honeymooned in Dubai. We’d always wanted to go there and only had 10 days holiday so it was a great option for some nearby winter sun and a LOT of relaxation, with a little shopping of course!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be just do it your way and don’t get too bogged down by the detail, as long as it’s a reflection of you and your partner and everyone has a good day, it’s perfect.

.

Oh, and if you make appointments to try on dresses, please keep them or cancel well in advance, it means a lot to small retailers!
