Live, Laugh, Love. A 1950’s Vintage Real Wedding In Lancashire – Adele & Donna

March 17th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Catharine Noble Photography

BIG LOVE to our brilliant and talented exhibitors, fabulous brides and goody bag touting grooms who supported our event in Leeds yesterday. The Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition at The Mansion was glorious! Thank you to everyone involved for your support and attendance, our team loved every minute of it. Roll on our next show at this favourite venue of mine… in the diary for 19th October!  More on that later.

Meanwhile, it’s still a March Monday on these pretty pages, and I’ve got something rather lovely in store for you this morning.  Today we are celebrating with not one stylish Bride Up North but two, as we join Adele and Donna for their bright, balmy and beautiful Real Wedding celebration in Lancashire.

Donna says:  We got engaged in May 2010. One Saturday morning there was a knock on the door. I was faced with a big bunch of flowers and a card saying ‘Will you marry me?’ and as I was reading this Adele produced a lovely white gold diamond ring in the shape of a flower.

Catharine Noble Photography

We were married on 3rd August 2013 at Heskin Hall Tudor manor house in Chorley, Lancashire.  We had looked at an array of venues in the area and didn’t come across any that understood us as a couple and understood what we wanted our wedding day to be like. The venue was perfect and just what we had in mind.

From the onset we had a 1950’s vintage theme. This included a VW Camper Van from Cheshire Campervan Hire as our transport, dapper floral shirts and dickie bows for the men and boys, vintage ice cream van from Every Day Is Like Sundae, high tea with vintage mismatched china, bunting, birdcages and heart shaped table confetti made from old sonnets. We collected jam jars, tied lace around these and added meadow flowers to them. We also had lawn games for our guests including croquet. Our motto – Live, Laugh, Love – was also featured throughout our ceremony and celebrations.

We visited our local mill and our bridesmaids selected the same print in a different colour each to be made into the same dresses. Our little flower girl Elise wore a simple flower girl dress from BHS, which matched perfectly with the theme. The page boys wore matching floral shirts from Debenhams and waist coat and trousers from BHS. My father also wore a matching suit and shirt from Debenhams. All the boys wore dickie bows and 50’s style shoes.

Catharine Noble Photography

We both chose a similar style of dress even though we hadn’t consulted each other. Our local bridal shop and dress maker Something Special based in Horwich made both our dresses and bridesmaid dresses simply from a couple of pictures and ideas.

Catharine Noble Photography

We carried simple but elegant meadow flowers and tea roses by Fleur De Lyn Cooper.  I had a Scottish thistle within my bouquet in memory of my grandma who was from Scotland.

Catharine Noble Photography

We had a male soloist on a guitar who learned all our favourite songs and sang these straight after the ceremony on the lawn and also while we were having high tea.

Did you catch the first part of this lovely North West bridal shoot celebrating the launch of Look Darling on the wedding blog yesterday? If not, click here to catch up and learn more about this fabulous new online dress shopping experience.

This morning, it gets even more gorgeous as we accompany the team, co-ordinated by Laura of Perfect Choice Planning, out and about in Southport.

Laura says: The launch of Look Darling firmly into the North West wedding industry brought a fabulous flirty 50’s-feel photo shoot with a subtle red, white & blue theme. It was a fantastic shoot to work on, if not a rather lengthy day!

After starting our shoot in The Vincent Hotel, we ventured further into the inviting atmosphere of Southport for the second part. For our outside venues, we also used some Southport businesses, who had kindly opened their doors and allowed us the use of their premises; Pudding & Pie café, Kernaghan Books, and the Sweet Memories sweet shop, all based in the Wayfarer Arcade, as well as June The Florist, next door to The Vincent Hotel.

All the businesses were very supportive and seemed as excited as we were to have gorgeous models parading around Southport in 50’s style wedding dresses! I can’t thank them enough for allowing us to take over parts of their shops to capture the stunning images you see here.

Emma of Look Darling says: “I am delighted to have some beautiful images of the new additions to the Look Darling collections, particularly the new ‘Ruth with lace’, and the ‘Fiona’ from Fancy New York, which is from their latest season collection and already proving popular with brides.  It’s great for brides to be able to see the dresses on real women too – both Tanya and myself are a size 12 (not a size 8!) and I’m very much the wrong side of 30, but they are flattering for real bodies and all age groups.  I think the images really reflect how wearable the styles are, and how the 50s style can be worn in so many different ways – modern, classic, elegant and funky”

We finished the day in the fantastic set up of The Vincent’s cocktail lounge, where we teased our long-suffering models with jubilee coloured cocktails, promising them as a treat for all their hard work. This is another point where The Vincent excelled in their accommodation, providing us not only with the location and cocktails but also with a talented cocktail mixer, who unfortunately got covered in cocktail from posing – and right at the beginning of his shift too!

The shoot was a resounding success and a super-fun day out. This is the feel of the shoot we wanted to convey and we certainly felt it whilst shooting. I personally thoroughly enjoyed the shoot, not just being the organisation and styling behind it, but working with such wonderful suppliers, who each brought their talents and creativity to culminate in this exciting shoot. I am also super excited to have a fabulous video to go with this equally fabulous shoot. Charlene from Love Gets Sweeter did a perfect job capturing the fun and hard work that went into this shoot. You can check out the video in yesterday’s blog post below to see if you agree!

I just want to take this last opportunity to personally thank everyone for their input into this shoot, from the last minute [life-saving] hair stylists and accommodating venues all around Southport, to the incredible suppliers and models for helping to bring everything together. I thoroughly enjoyed bringing all the elements in to create what I hope you will agree are fun and fanciful image-loveliness by Catharine Noble Photography

Wedding Blog Fashion Exclusive: Introducing Look Darling With A Vintage Tea Party Celebration Bridal Shoot In The North West!

June 4th, 2012 | Julia Braime

Afternoon all.  The sun has finally decided to make a brief appearance where I am today and in true British style we are preparing to fire up the BBQ.  Wahey!  Wherever you are and however you are enjoying the extended Jubilee weekend, I hope that you are having a good one.

.

You’ve still found time to visit Brides Up North over the weekend though (thank you for dropping by in your thousands – I thought you’d all be far too busy sinking the Pimms!), so I am thrilled to share another beautiful bridal shoot today sent to me by Laura of Perfect Choice Planning.  This is also a wedding blog fashion exclusive to celebrate the launch of Look Darling, a brand new beautiful online shop (by Emma, the wedding blogger behind Fifties Wedding no less) that aims to offer a selection of stylish and affordable 50s style wedding and evening gowns for lovers of vintage style.  I hope you like it, and pop by tomorrow morning for the second instalment!

Laura says: In April, after many months of correspondence and planning, a beautiful shoot was brought together in Southport with some wonderful suppliers. The whole shoot was based around the gorgeous collection of dresses at Look Darling, a new addition to the North West wedding suppliers sector.

The business seed for Look Darling was planted after the lovely owner, Emma searched high and low for a genuine vintage gown for her own wedding but was unable to fit into the tiny vintage sizes. Bringing together the best in high-end vintage-inspired styles, Look Darling offers affordable tea-length wedding dresses from key designers, including top US brands Dolly Couture and Fancy New York, as well as her own collection of dresses; the Look Darling Collection. Look Darling now has a studio in Meols, on the Wirral for appointments, meaning brides can try before they buy! You can find out more by checking out her website.

Emma Lester, the owner of Look Darling brought me in to organise, coordinate and style a shoot to get some inspiring and stunning images of her dresses and accessories so she could use them on her website, adding that personal touch. We needed an idea, a location and of course a photographer who was perfect for the vintage-feel. Cue Catharine Noble Photography, a photographer duo of Catharine and James, who specialise in vintage-style lifestyle and wedding photography – and they saw our vision perfectly.

I wanted to keep the feel of the shoot fun and fresh, to suit the dresses. In addition, to market these stunning dresses and accessories, we agreed right from the beginning that a subtle red, white and blue theme was a great combination with a town that has kept a vintage feel; Southport. We decided this would be the perfect touch, especially with the Jubilee being this year and the Queen being crowned in the era these dresses are styled around. Our models were our very own Emma from Look Darling, allowing her to be an advocate for her business, and the gorgeous Tanya, who pouted, shivered and posed perfectly throughout our many locations on the day.

Emma said: “I was really keen to collaborate with Laura on a photo shoot, as I had seen her previous work and how she has a talent for creating beautifully styled images.  When she suggested Catharine Noble Photography to work with us, I fell in love with their vintage style images that almost look as though they are from a bygone era – nostalgic and pretty.  Everyone we worked with on the day was such fun and it was a very relaxed atmosphere.  This was helped by Laura’s impressive organisation skills and close attention to detail, which meant everything ran like clockwork on the day. I also loved being a model for the day – I’ve never done anything like this before but I enjoyed every minute of it.  It is more tiring than you would think though!”

We started at The Vincent Hotel as our magnificent base and location for a lot of the day. The hotel is absolutely fabulous with equally amazing staff; they were incredibly accommodating and helpful as we roamed through many rooms and facilities, including the Spa, Cocktail Bar, function suites and bedrooms that were made available for our use.

In addition to the location of The Vincent Hotel and products from Look Darling, we also had the fabulous Love Umbrellas who created and supplied red, white and blue umbrellas to add to the feel and theme. Our highly talented make-up artist for the day was Naomi Hardiker, who was a great support on the day and an absolute pleasure to work with. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her in the future, like all the suppliers I worked with on the day.

Love Gets Sweeter Films were also able to join us later on in the day to capture some of the action from the day – watch out for the behind the scenes video coming up tomorrow on the wedding blog! I have personally been trying to work with Charlene, the owner, ever since we met and hit it off at the 2011 Brides Up North Tweet Up North West. It was a pleasure to work with her, and I’d hope she would say the same even if I possibly ruined some of her amazing footage by stepping in front of the camera all the time! Beware the silent ninja!

Finally, I have a special mention to make to the girls at Regis in Southport who, after a last minute let down from a hair-stylist-who-shall-remain-nameless, fit our incredible models in between their very understanding clients to rescue our 50’s hair styling dilemma. I particularly want to thank the fantastic hair stylists at Regis, Southport who styled Emma’s and Tanya’s hair perfectly, despite being thrown in at the deep end!

Super Sunday!

October 9th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Morning all!  It’s been a busy week.  I’ve been a guest of the UK Wedding Shows, a guest of Leafy Couture at the Harewood House wedding evening and a guest speaker at the Forward Ladies Positive Women’s Day in Sheffield, talking about “Blogging For Business”.

.

If you would like to come along to a similar seminar in the future please contact me to let me know.  If the demand is there I will get something arranged!

.

Today I’m at The Wedding Affair at Newby Hall, Ripon from 12pm – 4pm.  Drop by and say hello!

So, guess what?  This time next week I will have been married for one whole year!  Time really flies (especially when you spent the best part of that year juggling two lives as a lawyer and – if you don’t know the story behind that, click here).

.

I’m so excited as my lovely hubby is planning on whisking me off for a few days away to a secret location.  How I love him!

I actually have an admission to make – we still haven’t chosen the final edit for our wedding album.  Who would have thought it?  I’m a bad wife (but a good wedding blogger!).

.

To rectify things, I have decided to devote some blog posts next week to my reflections on a year of marriage, what marriage means, looking back at the past year and my hopes and dreams for the future.  I would absolutely love it if you would chime in with your own comments and help to get some constructive discussion going here on the wedding blog

.

In the meantime – if you so desire, you can see my wedding pictures here:

It’s not all going to be my personal memoirs though… you’ll also find the usual mix of bridal fashion, real weddings, news and supplier showcases gracing these silver swirly pages, and boy do I have some corking wedding inspiration to share with you, like this bridal shoot that I styled last week at Rockliffe Hall, that’s in today’s Sunday Sun! (North East). The full set to come soon on the wedding blog so just a sneak peek for now…

Pony Club! Sophie Rocks Her Dress

October 7th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Catharine Noble Photography

.

.

Hey, hey!  It’s almost the weekend!  Dip a Crunchie into your morning cuppa whilst perusing the wedding blog and enjoy this atmospheric Rock the Dress shoot submitted by Catharine Noble Photography.  You can almost feel the sunshine coming off the screen.

.

Remember ladies – a rock the dress shoot is your chance to put yourself out there and incorporate parts of your personality that perhaps didn’t get a chance to show through on your big day.  Here, Sophie seizes the opportunity to celebrate her love of the outdoors and show off her brand new pixie cut!  There’ll be only one type of pony tail in this lady’s life for quite a while!

.

I can identify with her motives completely.  After months, nay, years of growing the ‘do for the wedding – there’s nothing better than a great new haircut to make you feel like yourself again.

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Catharine Noble Photography   Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Catharine Noble Photography

.

.

Catharine explains the thinking behind the shoot:  Sophie had a total restyle since her wedding with a beautiful cropped hairstyle and was excited to rock her dress with her new look!

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Catharine Noble Photography

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Catharine Noble Photography

.

.

Sophie has always has a passion for horses and also horse riding, as a little girl and right through to adulthood. Unfortunately problems with her back during pregnancy meant that she could not ride for quite some time but now she is just getting back into her hobby and she wanted to include it into the shoot. So we based part of the shoot  around Sophie’s love of horses and horse riding and includes Billy the horse, her cousin’s pride and joy!
