September 29th, 2016 | Julia Braime

This morning’s post will be of great interest to those of you that have recently had a ring put on it as we’re sharing the details of another of our wonderful dream venues.

Today it’s the turn of the rather stunning and rather splendid Chester Grosvenor that offers history, elegance and style, plus excellent customer service and exceptional food and drink.

To tell us more about the 5 star Cheshire hotel’s wedding offering we’ll hand over the blog to those behind the luxurious venue…

the-chester-grosvenor-14

Where is The Chester Grosvenor located?

The Chester Grosvenor team say: Steeped in history and dating back to the 18th century, The Chester Grosvenor sits elegantly next to the landmark Eastgate Clock in the heart of Chester, where the pillared entrance and black and white timbered exterior provide the perfect backdrop for a fairy-tale wedding. The award-winning hotel combines breath-taking architecture with contemporary yet traditional interiors.

Tell us a little about the venue, what is its history?

The Grade II listed building was built between 1863 and 1865 and is owned by the Duke of Westminster. The upper façade of the building is distinctive half-timbered black-and-white, in the Tudor revival style that is typical of Chester architecture. The hotel celebrated its landmark 150th anniversary in 2015 and its Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor restaurant has held a Michelin Star since 1990 – a phenomenal feat.

What facilities does it have?

The Chester Grosvenor offers 68 beautiful bedrooms and 12 sumptuous suites, each full of character and charm. Guests and visitors have the choice of two restaurants, the elegant Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor and the buzzy La Brasserie, as well as the luxuriously comfortable Arkle Bar and Lounge, a wonderfully tranquil spa centre offering a range of treatments, as well as a variety of function rooms for meetings and private events.

Tell us about weddings at The Chester Grosvenor?

The Chester Grosvenor is a wonderful venue for a wedding reception, with an experienced and dedicated team who will look after you before, during and long after your big day – the team love to welcome back couples who have celebrated their wedding at the hotel!

The luxurious 5-star hotel offers everything from a civil ceremony to a wedding breakfast or evening banquet, ranging from just two to 250 guests. The hotel has a variety of suites that can be adapted to suit your requirements, whether that is a formal sit-down dinner or buffet. Your wedding day menu will be exclusively created by Michelin star chef Simon Radley – something that no other hotels in the North West offer. Any really memorable weddings at the venue?

.

We have memorable weddings every week of course, but one of our most entertaining was Debbie and Peter in May 2009. Debbie is a professional dancer so her and Peter had worked out a fantastic rock and roll dance for their 1950’s wedding, just beautiful. Also, some teachers present got everybody up for an impromptu lesson, it ended up like West Side story, but with girls versus guys.

Can you give Brides Up North an idea on price/ any special packages available?

To hire this beautiful ballroom is only £1,200, and our menus start from £30.00 per head.

Taking To The Stage!

April 20th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

I am one very excited this afternoon!

.

I am so very honoured to have been asked to be guest speaker at Lace Bridal’s North West Wedding Vendors Party next Thursday evening at Vale Royal Abbey in Cheshire.  This event is a BIT of a big deal, with over 150 of the North West wedding industry’s finest coming along to mix and mingle – including a visit from two ladies who create dream wedding dresses to die for – Charlotte Balbier and Caroline Castigliano.

.

It would be safe to say I’m also more than a little nervous about standing up in front of such a large group of assembled talents, but hopefully the heckling and Jimmy Choo throwing will be kept to a minimum!

.

On second thoughts, throw all the Choos you like!  Pairs in a size 7 if possible.

.

Now.  What to WEAR?!

.

.

.

If you are a North West wedding industry vendor who would like to come along, please email Katie at Lace Bridal: lacebridal98@gmail.com

.

In the meantime, I have the pleasure of sharing with you a special bridal shoot – shot by the photographer responsible for this morning’s gorgeous Real WeddingMartin Hambledon Photography, with gown supplied by Lace Bridal at this stunning venue.

.

And you might just recognise our beautiful model today… yes, that’s Sarah Jayne Dunn AKA Mandy offa Hollyoaks! My student days are coming flooding back right now.  Sarah will also be there next Thursday to say hello too.  Isn’t she gorgeous?!

“A Marine!” A Real Wedding – Sarah & Jonathan

November 1st, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

.

.

Oh my goodness.  I don’t know if I’m just feeling hormonal, but I was welling up within the first 15 seconds of this gorgeous wedding video from Marry Me Films.  Literally – I went back and timed it.  A man in uniform always gets to me – if you know what I mean – but I think its the love, excitement and happiness evident in this little film of Sarah and Jonathan’s big day that tugged at this ’s numb* old heart strings!  Press play and enjoy.

.

In the meantime, it’s over to the bride to tell you a bit more about her big day.  With photographs by family friend Christian Ollier.

Sarah says:  We got engaged on New Year’s day 2010, and married on 5th August 2011 at Capesthorne Hall, Macclesfield.  We had looked around only two venues before we settled on Capesthorne Hall. Our parents told us not to rush into the decision, but there was no question in our minds that this was where we wanted our big day to be. Capesthorne Hall is a beautiful stately home, but not in a flashy sense. I personally was drawn to the building due to its black shading, the drawn curtains and the charcoal colouring around the eaves of the house: the building had a true gothic quality. It reminded me of Jane Eyre, Beauty and the Beast, and I felt it had a quality we had not seen in the other places we viewed. We were sold, it was the one.

.

.

The fact that Jon is an officer in the Royal Marines was an obvious theme throughout the day. The military men in attendance acted as ushers and as you might expect, were diligent in their role and no one argued – not with swords in hands! The guard of honour was amazing, a fairy tale element and an aspect which we will always remember.

.

When deciding on a theme for our tables, we thought about continuing the military theme, but decided to go for something closer to our hearts. We chose our favourite places from our time together: Bagdale Hall, Whitby; Casa Best, Malaga/The Lakes; Constance Ephelia, Seychelles; Lebua State Tower, Bangkok; The Four Seasons Hotel, Thailand; The Castle Hotel, Taunton and Oreston Manour House, Torquay. During Jon’s speech, he took each in turn and talked about why each one was of such importance. It was the story of us, built around our special places. It was a fantastic touch of Jon’s, I have to give him the credit there!

.

Our wedding colour scheme was green. I love green! I am obsessed by all varieties of the colour and knew that no matter what month we got married in, green would be the colour that won.

.

In the end we went for a spring green as we decided on an August wedding. The colour was perfect and when the sun shone on the bridesmaid dresses, the girls looked stunning. The colour suited each of them, light skinned or dark, and everyone commented on its beauty. The bouquets for both the bridesmaids and I were dominated by green foliage, giving them a natural feel. This colour was then replicated on the chair ties, a perfect match, I don’t know how Sue (Chapman Holmes) did it, but it pulled the whole room together beautifully. Green envelopes were used as place names. Green corsages were made for all the male family members.
