Now, anyone who knows me well will correctly anticipate that I am very much looking forward to the release of The Great Gatsby later on this year. Yes, I can’t wait to soak up all that beautiful 1920’s glamour and styling, but I also have the biggest crush on Leonardo Di Caprio. It’s sad but true, and I have been unable to shake it since seeing Baz Lurmann’s Romeo & Juliet at the tender age of 14. All these years later, whilst everyone else moved on to Depp, Pitt and Pattison, he’s still up there at the top of my list, and I have seen every single one of his films. So as a total loser an expert on DiCaprio, and a fan of the book itself, I’d say if there’s one film Leo will do well, it’s Gatsby.
.
Consequently, excitement levels for The Great Gatsby and anything so related are high here at Brides Up North HQ.
.
So when Alex of Alex Davies Photography got in touch to see if I fancied featuring her latest styled bridal inspiration shoot, a Gatsby themed affair, I was keen to see the results, although I feared it might miss a little Leo shaped magic. And you know what? The team have put this together so beautifully, that you barely notice the lack of DiCaprio. I was too busy drooling over those wedding dresses (particularly the chiffon shrug), that hair, those accessories, that eye makeup, those flowers…

Enjoy!

Alex says: It’s amazing where ideas come from and believe it or not this idea behind this shoot came from a trip to the dentist! While sitting in the waiting room I was captivated by the trailer for The Great Gatsby which has been re-made and is due for release this summer. I adore the 1920′s style and thought that creatively this gave a lot of scope to work with.

In the past when I’ve done shoots I always worked with a lot of Manchester suppliers but you know what, we have some great suppliers here in Bolton so I wanted to keep it very local and use the best guys we have here.

The gowns were provided by Claire Louise Brides which is very much a family business. Claire’s boutique is beautiful and she stocks some amazing suppliers such as Suzanne Neville and Paloma Blanca. Claire also stocks beautiful headpieces by Miranda Templeton who is another local talent. Mel, the lady behind Miranda Templeton brought along her new collection to be part of the shoot.

The hair and make-up were done by formidable talent Fatimah Vadia of MakeupBase. Fatimah trained with MAC and is such a joy to work with. She always gets exactly what I’m after and isn’t afraid to go all out to really create something stunning for the camera.

Our beautiful model was Alex Outhwaite who was the ultimate professional and endured the cold in some flimsy gowns.

And finally the whole shoot was set at the Egerton House Hotel in Bolton. The hotel has some beautiful grounds as well as a purpose built wedding suite and was brilliant to shoot in.
