Natural Beauty. A Vintage Style Bespoke Gown For The First Real Wedding Ever At Easby Hall – Stacey & Will

June 10th, 2014 | Rachel Parry

(c) 2014 Chris Booth at Easby Hall

I love couples that think outside the box, so when I saw Will and Stacey’s quirky Save the Date video I just knew the wedding would be equally impressive and individual – and I wasn’t wrong.

Stacey and Will’s Save the Date from Will Roberts on Vimeo.

A traditional church wedding was followed by a fabulous reception at the picturesque Easby Hall in North Yorkshire.

Both Will and Stacey put a lot of thought into the day to include personal touches in honour of friends and family, both past and present.

The stylish couple paid particular attention to their wedding attire with Stacey having a vintage-style bespoke dress designed and made by the hugely talented Kate Beaumont. Meanwhile, dapper Will shunned a traditional Prince Edward suit or top and tails in place of a brown Hugo Boss suit, complete with tweed waistcoat, pocket watch and purple socks.

Will says: We got engaged while we were travelling in Latin America – Argentinian Patagonia to be more precise. I obviously didn’t have ring in South America, however I did have one in mind.

Before my Mum died in 2010 she asked me to use my paternal Grandmother’s engagement ring. My middle name is Howel – the name of my paternal grandfather – so my Mum thought it would be nice for another Howel to propose with it. When we returned to the UK in 2012 we got the ring-resized and tidied up, using Werk in York.

Our wedding date was September 21st 2013. We wanted either an autumn or spring wedding and didn’t want to wait until spring 2014. We also had to make sure the date didn’t clash with my siblings’ weddings – my brother David got married in June 2013 and my sister Mary got married August 2013.

We got married in St Agatha’s Church, Easby, near Richmond, North Yorkshire, and had the reception at Easby Hall – a very short walk from the church. We wanted a small wedding of 50 to 60 guests and Easby was the perfect size. We also loved having such a beautiful church right next door. It was also only 15 minutes away from Barnard Castle, where Stacey’s family live and where we both went to school. Easby Hall had never hosted a wedding before – we were the first after they got planning permission, which they only received three months before our wedding. This meant we had to essentially plan the wedding in three months but it also meant the hall was free on the date we wanted it.

Easby also had a sentimental connection as Easby Abbey and St Agatha’s church was one of the last places my Mum visited before she passed away.

Frosted Romance At Thorp Perrow: A Beautiful Brides Up North Wedding Inspiration Shoot

April 30th, 2013 | Julia Braime

Thorp Perrow by Joe Dodsworth Photography

.

.

Now, you now I’m not really a fan of a repost (and I shared this winter glamour bridal inspiration shoot with you following the Brides Up North Christmas party) but I’ve got a really rather lovely Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition coming up at this absolutely stunning stately home and gardens – Thorp Perrow, a new, authentic and exclusive private wedding venue in the heart of Bedale –  and wanted to remind you why you need to be there on Sunday 12th May!

The venue was the stunning house at Thorp Perrow, where I was lucky enough to host the Brides Up North Christmas Party just a day later (click here for a full catch up and photographs from that sparkling event).

On May 12th, you’ll get to see this venue in all it’s blooming Summer glory (more on that soon), but to illustrate it’s beauty in Winter too we chose an almost frozen look, working with natural winter light, the pale pastel decor of the venue and the almost ethereal beauty of our two models, Ruth Sturdy and Alexandra Ellis.

I was thinking Russian princesses, a wintery Marie Antoinette, the Snow Queen’s court, Faberge egg colours and gilding and er, Kylie Minogue in January’s Elle Magazine. One thing’s for sure – it worked!

We were also joined on site by the talent of Deborah of Love On Location, who was responsible for the amazing hair styling, the fabulous team at Curvy Bridal who provided all the breath taking gowns, accessories, shoes and head pieces (as well as working like troopers all day) and the supremely talented Jo of Twisted Willow Floristry, who dressed the venue with her floral creations ready for the following evening’s party while we styled things up.

So first, a peep behind the scenes (and yes, we DID keep our coats on…to keep the venue cool for those lovely flowers) and then to some rather fine art photography.  I’m thinking that Vogue is calling…

The Inspirations: Frosted Romance By Make Up By Jo

January 10th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Make Up By Jo at Thorp Perrow

.

.

Yesterday, I shared Brides Up North’s latest bridal inspiration shoot set in the stately rooms of private house and brand new wedding venue Thorp PerrowClick here to catch up.  I’ve already given some major kudos to my team but hey, why not say it again – big thanks to the amazing talents of Joe Dodsworth Photography, Curvy Bridal, Love On Location, CWC Malings, Twisted Willow Floristry and models Ruth Sturdy and Alexandra Ellis (whose lovely mug is the focus of this morning’s feature)!

.

One lady who was extremely instrumental in the look and feel of this project was my friend, Featured Supplier and colleague Jo Leversuch at Make Up By Jo.  Jo understood the frosted romance theme and my whimsical notions of Russian princesses, ice maidens and winter pastels perfectly.

.

.

Joe Dodsworth Photography

.

.

The team drew ideas together using a Pinterest board, a resource that I am using more and more in my styling work  (feel free to pop on across and give Brides Up North a follow for regular insights into my behind the scenes thought processes, and things that I think are generally pretty) and you can see the board, entitled Romantic Opulence, by clicking here

.

However, when it came to make up, Jo – using our inspirations – had free reign.  I trust this make up maestro implicitly.  And you know what?  Trust pays off.  I’ll pass you over to Jo, who explains the thoughts behind, and the products used to create, this stunning look.

.

.

Joe Dodsworth Photography

.

.

Jo says: I wanted to share with you behind the scenes preparation for the latest photo shoot with Julia, Editor of Brides Up North.

.

My main inspiration came from the January 2013 edition of Elle Magazine and their cover shots featuring Kylie Minogue. The look was strong but had the feminine flair of soft pastel pinks. The key look for Spring/ Summer 2013 make-up is a strong focus on pink colours from pastel to candy strong pinks of all shades for eyes, cheeks and lips.

.

.

.

.

Make Up By Jo at Thorp Perrow - Elle Magazine

.

.

The theme for the shoot was “Frosted Romance”, drawing on regal imagery in cold climates, and the make-up needed to be adapted from a high end fashion trend to wearable bridal make-up. This meant a softer approach on the look with plenty of focus on highlights and contour.

.

Blending the make-up was essential for the camera. I wanted the skin to be fresh and flawless with a focus on highlighting the cheekbones. The eyeshadow added a subtle hint of pink colour and white shimmer in the inner part of the eye enhanced the eyes for a magical look. By using different textures of blushers I created strong contours to really show off the cheekbones. Lips remained soft with a slight hint of gloss.

.

.

.

Make-up used on both models:

.

Primer: Rimmel Fix and Perfect Primer

Foundation: Ariane Poole Tinted Primer in Light

Concealer: Ariane Poole Conceal and Contour Palette

Highlighter: Ariane Poole Illuminator Pen

Eyeshadow: Ariane Poole in Charm 337

Eyeshadow: Daniel Sandler Eye Delight in Ice

Mascara: YSL False Lash Effect

Blusher: Watercolour Fluid Blusher in So Pretty

Nars: Desire

Lipstick: Ariane Poole Love Struck 52

Behind The Wedding Blog: The Brides Up North Christmas Party At The Stunning Thorp Perrow!

January 7th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

So. I’m a little confused.  It appears to be January 7th, the Christmas decorations have come down (in fact, due to our home and office move, ours never went up – sob!) and I’m not sure if I can’t quite believe that it’s already January 7th, or can’t quite believe that it’s only January 7th.

.

.

The Brides Up North Christmas Party at Thorp Perrow by Ruth Mitchell Photography

.

.

This Christmas season and (especially) this first week in January has been the busiest time ever here at Brides Up North HQ. And we are loving it!  Visits to the blog are looking seriously healthy (hello to our new readers, welcome!) and numbers over on our lovely Twitter and Facebook pages are swelling.  We look set to pip the 10,000 point soon over on Twitter!  Wow.  Join the party over there too!

.

After a busy few weeks behind the scenes we also have some amazing new talents to add to our Featured Supplier Directory over the next few weeks and introduce to you here on these pages too.  Brides Up North would be nothing, nada, without the fabulous regional industry that supports it so wholeheartedly, and I am thrilled to be able to spread the news about these great wedding suppliers right on your door step.  Forget that train ticket to London, spend the cash on sparkly shoes instead!  That’s my kind of budgeting.

.

December was also a very social month for us at Brides Up North.  We hosted our first ever Christmas party at the wonderful Thorp Perrow, which was an unbelievably marvellous occasion – more on that in a minute – and also threw open exhibitor bookings for our brilliant set of luxury wedding exhibitions at hand picked venues across the regions for 2013.  You can read more about our choice of dates and venues – and get involved – by clicking here

.

.

January will see a little more hibernation from me, as I get ready to welcome our first Brides Up North baby in a couple of months time, and that unfortunately means no jaunts to the capital to see who picks up the prizes in the two awards ceremonies that I was honoured to judge this season – The Wedding Industry Awards (this Wednesday) and The Wedding Ideas Magazine Awards (this Friday).  Aside from the fact that I have no sparkles and sequins to fit – and only sparkles and sequins will do – Champagne is off the menu and I get a little cranky past 9pm these days.  I hope that you all have a wonderful time and I’ll see you next year – when Champagne, sparkles and sequins will be very much back on the agenda! I only judged the Southern categories and those that didn’t include my Featured Suppliers, so I am rooting for my home grown talents to bring home the shiny mantelpiece furniture! Go guys!

.

.

Just because I’m being a little quieter this month, that doesn’t mean that things here on the wedding blog will be!  If anything, I’m overcompensating (I’m like that).  I have an action packed schedule of gorgeous ready for you and am putting the finishing touches to those inspiration packed bridal events that I mentioned earlier.  Take note: this season is going to be good.

.

.

Ruth Mitchell Photography

.

.

I also am joined in our new office by our first member of staff (say hello to Kate, I’ll be introducing her properly later on) who’ll be helping with bookings and generally being scarily efficient and organised, so at last I have someone to bounce my (sometimes crazy) ideas off!  If you come across her, as always, give her a kiss from me. Thing’s ain’t slowing down around these parts.  Why would they?  We’re Northern… we like challenges!

Before we get too excited with all things new though, lets take a moment to look back and recap on the fantastic Brides Up North Christmas Party, with some pretty pictures from friend of the wedding blog, Ruth Mitchell Photography.

.

On a cold, foggy night in December, over 150 (!) of the regional wedding industry’s finest (some travelling for up to four hours to be there – you guys are amazing) descended upon the beautiful stately pile that is CWC Events’ latest baby, and brand new Brides Up North luxury wedding venue, Thorp Perrow, North Yorkshire.

.

Brides to be: if you haven’t booked your venue yet – you HAVE to check this place out.  Contact Clive at CWC Events who not only knows how to prep the perfect “advanced canapé”, but also has extremely good taste in wedding venues and will be more than happy to assist.

We came, we cocktailed, we quaffed champagne, we feasted on those gorgeous canapés, we posed, we caught up and we partied.  And – I don’t say this lightly – it was truly fabulous (and very Christmassy).

.

Massive thanks must go to the superbly talented Joanna at Twisted Willow Floristry, who worked tirelessly to turn the beautiful grand rooms into a floral paradise with her own “twisted” take on Christmas.  Twinkling trees, blood red blooms, flickering candles, piles of juicy apples, pale pink roses entwined around storm lanterns and a rather marvellous twiggy amaryllis Christmas tree festooned the place and created a wonderland.  Just the look we were going for!

Live carols at the piano along with the dulcet Christmas swing tones of Glen Roughead (he’s seriously good) filled the air, followed up later with classic crackling Christmas and party tunes from Vintage 78 DJs’ decks.  Looking for music for your big day?  Look no further than these two original acts, whether it’s smooth swing or an authentic retro vibe that you are going for.  You can catch both of them at some of our Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibitions this season.

.

Kelly’s Event Boutique lent their event dressing skills to provide some poser tables around which we could, er, pose, and Robineau brought along the tastiest mince pies to compliment CWC Events’ smorgasbord of delights and spicy mulled wine.

.

Steven from Forever Film was there to capture the action as it unfolded – more from him later on – and the girls from Limelight Photobooth Hire brought their roomy booth to capture the sillier moments.  Catch up on those photos by clicking here

All in all, a cracking night in at Thorp Perrow, and one that I think the wedding industry will remember for a while.  As I fell into bed – absolutely cream crackered – at 2:30am, I felt really proud to know such a bunch of people who know how to party so fabulously.

.

Until next time!

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like…

November 6th, 2012 | Julia Braime

Brides Up North Christmas Party Invitation

.

.

… ohhh yeah!

.

If you follow Brides Up North on Facebook and Twitter (ahem, get to it!) you will know that I have been itching to reveal the top secret location for the first ever Brides Up North Christmas party.

.

Usually at my Brides Up North Tweet Ups, I travel across the country and host an event in three locations but for our Christmas ‘do I wanted to find one very special and super Christmassy venue that was fairly accessible to most and so not quite in the heart of the North East and not quite in deepest Yorkshire.  North West – I am coming your way next, I promise (but it will be worth the journey)!

.

So, sequins and sparkle at the ready for a very special and merry evening of cocktails, carols, Christmas swing and a first look at the stunning North Yorkshire private stately home and wedding venue that is The House at Thorp Perrow Arboretum.  Watch out for some special surprises too! You have to see this place for yourselves – trust me – it’s well worth the trip!

.

.

Tuesday 11th December 2012

The House at Thorp Perrow Arboretum

From 6:30pm

Sequins & Sparkle

Entry strictly by guest list only: julia@bridesupnorth.co.uk

.

.

In conjunction with CWC Mailings who are in charge of weddings and events at this stunning setting, come and make merry to celebrate the season - wedding industry colleagues and Brides Up North readers all very welcome.  This isn’t a wedding exhibition or showcase, it’s simply the chance to let your hair down, have a nosy, put on the glitz and mix and mingle with the regions’ finest!

.

Top tip: it’s going to be an evening of merriment, so bribe a designated driver with the Quality Street first.  Get in touch if you need accommodation recommendations in the area too.

.

The party is on us, but numbers are limited, so entry will be strictly by guest list. Please make sure to register your interest by emailing julia@bridesupnorth.co.uk asap to avoid disappointment (I don’t like to see anyone disappointed at Christmas time!).

.

Get ready to shake your jingle bells!
