Sage, Sparkle & Song! A Real Wedding In The North East – Kimberley & Andrew

February 21st, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Grange Photography

.

.

Today we join Kimberley and Andrew for their beautiful Real Wedding at Hardwick Hall HotelNow what could be happening there this weekend?

.

.

Hardwick Hall Wedding Fair - Brides Up North Bridal Bonanza

.

.

Oh yes!  I had almost forgotten about that!  Not really, click here for more details and to pre-register for your VIP Bride-To-Be goody bag.

.

My bad. Forgive my shameless plug, and let’s head back to the sparkle and song of Kimberley and Andrew’s classic yet contemporary wedding, with contributions from lots of our favourite North East suppliers, and images by Grange Photography.

.

.

Grange Photography

.

.

Kimberley says:  We got engaged on 2nd January 2011.  We went for a walk around Greatham Church and he got down on one knee and asked to meet him back there on our wedding day. I was totally surprised really didn’t expect it… cue lots of happy tears!

.

.

Grange Photography

.

.

We were married on 25th August 2012 at Greatham Church (of course!) with the reception at Hardwick Hall Hotel, where we fell in love with the beautiful grounds and chandeliers and the staff were so helpful.

.

We chose a colour scheme of sage green & ivory.

.

.

Grange Photography

.

.

I chose a Ronald Joyce dress from Christabel & Keats and accessories by Jenny Packham

.

My bridesmaids wore floor length strapless chiffon dresses from Christabel & Keats and the groomsmen wore traditional tailored grey suits from Bakers in Middlesborough.

.

.

.

.

We travelled in style – in my friend’s dad beautiful Bentley and I also chose a VW camper van for my bridesmaids, which they loved.

I copied Kate Middleton’s bouquet, as I loved it!  It had lily of the valley, gypsophila, small roses and a few crystals.

We love music, so had a table plan based on our favourite bands.  In the evening we chose to have a live  band called The Lizards, as well as a retro photo booth from Snaparazzi Photo Booths.

.

.

We chose a vanilla sponge, fruit and chocolate praline cake with ivory fondant from Celebration Cakes.  We added a sage green ribbon and a gorgeous brooch.  Beautiful and delicious!

After the wedding we went to Thailand. Bangkok, Koh Samui & Phuket. We seriously didn’t want to come home – it’s such a beautiful country!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to make sure your organised and well prepared so you can enjoy every moment. Don’t stress about the small things it all comes together on the day.

2013: It’s On!

January 2nd, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Well helloooooooo Brides Up North!  It’s 2013!

.

UK Wedding Blog Brides Up North by Karen McGowran

.

.

We survived apocalypse (and Mum’s trifle) – so lets blearily prise open our glitter heavy lids and welcome in this brand New Year with a bang!  Whether you just slipped your sparkler onto that ring finger (Congratulations you!) or are preparing to say I do imminently: it’s all to play for, and I can promise you another – bigger and better – 12 months of gorgeous weddings, helpful features, supplier showcases, diary dates, inspiration galore and of course, some very special collaborations and surprises here on these swirly silver pages.

.

It’s pretty, it’s useful and it’s local to you.  And it’s coming right up.  Welcome to the Northern Revolution!

.

.

UK Wedding Blog Brides Up North by Karen McGowran

.

.

I’ve spent a lovely Christmas break relaxing with friends and family, catching my breath after a whirlwind year (if you are just joining the party then you can read all about a busy 2012 here, find out all about me here and about the wedding blog in general here) and preparing for a fast paced start to 2013.

.

As well as getting ready to welcome our first Brides Up North baby – currently cooking nicely! – welcoming a new member of staff to the team, putting the finishing touches to a raft of freelance bridal features and planning some rather snazzy tweaks to this here website (coming soon!), I’ve been up to my ears in packing boxes as we get ready to ship out to our brand new home and Brides Up North’s sparkly new headquarters in a few days’ time.  Phew.  After all, if you don’t do it all at once, why do it at all?*

.

*Not advised

.

I’ve adored recapping some of my very favourite Real Weddings from 2012 on the wedding blog over the last week or so – there was a whole lot of stunning going on last year!  If you’ve had a break from your computer screens over the last 10 days then why not take some time to catch up.  Inspiration overload!

.

And you know what? I think things are only going to get prettier around these parts in 2013.  I already have an inbox busting with beautiful submissions that I can’t wait to share with you.  Come to think of it, the packing can wait!

.

.

UK Wedding Blog Brides Up North by Karen McGowran

I LOVE meeting our readers in real life – and have so many tips, hints and recommendations up my sleeve to share with you in person – so make sure to diarise at least one of our free entry (yep, you read that right) Luxury Wedding Exhibitions this season and come along to say hello.  If you can’t make an event, make sure to check out our Directory of the regions’ finest too.

Before we say goodbye until tomorrow when the usual twice daily blogging schedule resumes with gusto and I let you get back to whatever you should be doing this first morning back in the office (I know, I’d make planning your wedding a salaried role too, but they just haven’t caught on upstairs yet) make sure that today is the day that you click through and join our community over on Twitter and Facebook.  I can’t always fit all the newest news and offers from my Featured Suppliers into a blog post, so that’s where you’ll find all the hottest gossip first.  Plus plenty of extra pretty, musings and tips.  Go, go, go!

.

I’d also love to encourage even more interactivity here on the blog pages in 2013 too.  Never feel shy to leave a comment on a post, ask a Featured Supplier a question at the end of an interview, tell our real brides exactly what you loved about their wedding, track down where items were sourced from or just say hello.  It’s dead easy and we are all ears.  This is YOUR blog, so get the discussion going!

.

To start you off, why not leave a comment on this post to tell us about your wedding plans in 2013, your perfect proposal or simply say hola!  I’d LOVE to hear from you.

.

Happy New Year!

Brides to be, some dates for your diaries if I may!

.

After just closing a super successful and inspirational Autumn season of Brides Up North events (we do do ‘em best, even if I do say so myself), I can’t believe that we are already looking ahead to 2013 here at Brides Up North HQ.  My inbox is already absolutely awash with enquiries from the regions’ best wedding suppliers, reserving their places at what look set to be an absolutely smashing series of Brides Up North shows in the New Year -  I think I might be up until the early hours this evening!  I can’t wait to get planning, and to see you – my lovely readers – at one or more of our events.  Do say hello if you see me!

.

You know I’ll be reminding you about each and every one of these fabulous dates nearer the time, so for now, just mark ‘em in that calendar, and get on with browsing the rest of the pretty I have coming up for you on these pages.  There’s a lot of it…

.

If you are a wedding supplier reader (*waves hello!*) you can find out more or request a booking form by email me julia@bridesupnorth.co.uk – we are working through your enquiries as fast as we possibly can.  The sooner the better to register your interest, we work on a first come, first served basis and strictly limit our suppliers by category.  Watch out for a few more dates and venues being announced soon too!  I can’t wait to add some new regional talents to add to our amazing supplier database in 2013.

Super Sunday!

September 18th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Morning all!  Good Luck to everyone taking part in the Great North run today.  Hats off to you and well done!  I’ve completed the race twice and it’s tough going.  Think of the Sunday roast waiting for you at the end!

No 13.2 milers for me today though, as I’ll be at Hardwick Hall Hotel, County Durham for their Grand Wedding Fair.  Do stop by and say hello.  I’ll be the one rocking the pink dress and quizzing all the brides to be about their plans for their big day.  The doors open at 10am today, so I’ll see all you early bird brides soon!

.

In the meantime, I thought it was time to let a little bit more gorgeousness in.  The loveliness doesn’t have to stop when you say I do!  With that in mind, I have rounded up my pick of the interweb’s pretties – perfect to accessorise your big day, to add to the wedding list or just to feather your newly wed nest.  Enjoy.

.

Yesssss, I do realise that I am full on shopping facilitating.  I’m not even going to apologise.  In my defence, it’d be selfish not to share.  And to make you feel better (unless you are my husband of course):  just imagine the state of my finances!

Tis The Season! (And a VERY SPECIAL Save The Date!)

September 15th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Well, well, well, no sooner than you start blogging the words “autumn, new collections, back to school and winter weddings”  than wedding fair season is upon us!

.

I am ridiculously over excited very excited to announce some all new Events for Spring 2012.  Eeeeep!

.

And these events are especially for YOU, my lovely Brides To Be!

.

I have been working hard behind the scenes at Brides Up North to bring my readers some special wedding showcase events with a difference.  Working with some of the North’s best wedding venues, I am handpicking the region’s finest talent, adding a mighty dash of blogosphere inspiration, a dollop of DIY, a good splash of glamour and mixing it all up with some fantastic giveaways and discounts.  I hope to add the fun, uniqueness and most importantly the quality back into your wedding planning process.  So pretty please save the dates, and watch out for more details very soon.

As well as the top wedding talent from across the North, I will be at each event hosting my very own “Meet The ” sessions (I would like it to take the form of a very pretty blogger’s tea party… but lets wait and see!).  Since I spend pretty much every moment of every day researching, sourcing, talking about, living, breathing and sleeping wedding loveliness,  I have a lot to say on the subject.  For ideas, inspiration, top tips, insider knowledge or even just a nod in the right direction – come and say hello and pick my brains.

.

Diaries at the ready girls – you do not want to miss these!

Super Sunday!

March 6th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Brides Up North spent a lovely day yesterday wandering the aisles at The National Wedding Show at the NEC in Birmingham chatting to gorgeous brides and wonderful suppliers.  Hello to everyone I met there!

Today, I’m on tour again at Hardwick Hall Hotel, Sedgefield.  Its their Grand Wedding Fair, so why not drop in and take a peep!  I’ll be looking for Brides to Be to recruit for Real Wedding features.  Hope to see you there!

.

If you can’t make it, why not kick back and relax with the best of the blogosphere this week…

The Knotty BrideOscars Bridal-esque fashion via The Knotty Bride

.

You must have had your head buried in the sand if you haven’t heard about The King’s Speech clearing up, or James Franco’s dubious hosting skills at this year’s Oscars -  but have you had a proper gawp at all the gorgeous gowns?  The Knotty Bride has produced the best round up I’ve seen so far.  Lots of bridal inspiration this year too!  Bonus!
