lemon & lace. florals galore for an elegant wedding in the north west – zarah & jeff

December 18th, 2017 | Rachel Parry

Baby it’s cold outside, but we have a stunning real wedding that’s guaranteed to warm up your Monday morning.

Featuring an abundance of blooms – from striking bouquets and centrepieces, to blossom trees, a floral wall and iced flowers on the cake – Jeff and Zarah’s big day was nothing short of beautiful.

The stunning Hillbark Hotel in the Wirral provided the perfect setting for their elegant big day, with the ceremony taking place in the spectacular Grand Hall and the reception in the venue’s large star-lit marquee.

Drawing on her experiences as a guest at the weddings of friends and family, Zarah picked out her favourite features and mixed in a few of her big day wishes too, resulting in an entertaining and enjoyable day for all.

zarah says: We got engaged in Cuba on the 22nd May 2016. Jeff organised a lovely meal. We got picked up from our hotel in a 1957 Chevrolet car, which was amazing. When we got back to the hotel after our meal, Jeff insisted he wanted to walk on the beach and smoke a cigar – as you do in Cuba! I was a bit hesitant at first as a few drops of rain appeared. None the less we walked down to the beach and Jeff smoked his cigar. After a short stroll down the beach, I wanted to go back into the hotel as few more drops of rain appeared. As we walked back along the beach Jeff said, “wait I have something to ask you”. He then went down on his knee, as he proposed lightening appeared in the background and he asked for my hand in marriage. I was quite shocked and said “ok”, feeling the happiest lady in the world. Jeff then chuckled and told me when he asked my dad, he said the same thing!

We got married on Friday 25th August 2017. We choose that date as it was the bank holiday weekend and we thought it would be a nice long weekend for our friends and family.

We got married in the Wirral at a hotel called Hillbark Hotel and Spa. We choose this venue as it is a beautiful Tudor style hotel and had an amazing great hall where we could get married. There are only 16 rooms at the hotel which meant we had the whole place to ourselves on our wedding day. The details at the hotel are amazing and it has lovely features, such as a large chandelier, fire place and hidden rooms. We also heard good reviews about how amazing their food is. It was also the perfect place where we could get married in the Great Hall and have our wedding breakfast meal in the star lit marquee.

We didn’t really have a theme or style, but I wanted it to be stylish yet classy with a bit of everything. I have been to a lot of weddings and over the years and I have liked parts of different friends and family weddings and I wanted to incorporate this into my own wedding. Things like the blossom trees, larger flower centre pieces and flower background wall.

I chose lemon, white and dashes of hot pink for the colour scheme as lemon and pink are my favourite colours – I like bright and exotic colours having a Mauritian background.

Dress-wise, I wanted a princess style design, which incorporated lace – I also wanted it to be off the shoulder with short sleeves. I went to a few bridal stores until I found the dress at Ava Rose Hamilton in Colne. They had a selection of amazing and beautiful dresses. They didn’t quite have the dress I had in mind but then they showed me a beautiful lace top which I could add onto of my dress, which just finished my dress off perfectly, along with a long cathedral veil with small diamantes. The service at Ava Rose Hamilton was amazing and I would definitely recommend anyone to go to this shop, if they are looking for a stylish wedding dress.

Jeff wore a bespoke suit from Signature Bespoke in Liverpool. He chose a navy-blue tuxedo style suit with a large velvet bow tie and velvet lapels on his suit jacket.

summer flair. a stylish wedding at hillbark hotel, cheshire – alexandra & adrian

December 7th, 2016 | Alexis Forsyth

This evening on the blog, we’re sharing with you Alexandra and Adrian’s picturesque summer wedding.

Celebrating with friends and family at the luxury five-star Hillbark Hotel in the Wirral, the couple opted for a pared back, elegant look with a cornflower blue colour scheme, which was beautifully offset by floral arrangements of lilies, hydrangeas and roses with pale blue delphiniums.

alexandra says: We got engaged on 7th June 2015, at our apartment in Spain. It was our six-year anniversary and we were having champagne on the terrace when Adrian surprised me with a photo book of our time together. On the last page it said he had a question to ask and then he got down on one knee; it was perfect!

We got married on 25th June 2016. We wanted a summer wedding roughly a year after our engagement. We looked at when our church and venue were both available and 25th it was!

We tied the knot at St Joseph’s Church in Crosby. I’m from Crosby and this is the church I went to when I was younger.

We hosted our reception at the Hillbark Hotel in the Wirral. When we viewed the venue, we fell in love with it, plus we didn’t know anyone who had already been married there, which was important to us.

We didn’t have a specific theme, instead we wanted a classic, fresh look and our florist and wedding coordinators were fantastic at achieving this.

For our colour scheme, we chose cornflower blue. As we were having a summer wedding we wanted a light, summery colour and it was our favourite next to my white dress and the groomsmen’s blue suits.

It Gets Sweeter! A Real North West Wedding Revisited – Charlene & Lee

January 30th, 2012 | Julia Braime

Sometimes life gives you lemons.  It’s up to you to make lemonade.

I was contacted recently by my wedding industry friend Charlene of Love Gets Sweeter wedding films, who had a bad experience with her photographer on her own wedding day.  I’m not here to air dirty laundry, but the long and short of it was that Charlene ended up without a photographic record of her big day.

.

So what’s a girl to do but enlist the help of a fab photographer and celebrate all over again with a stunning bridal shoot?  Girl Power!

.

With help from Evie at Chapter Photography, Charlene got to share her Real Wedding story with Brides Up North after all…

Lets hear from Charlene: We were engaged on our first anniversary back in 2003, on a moonlit beach in Spain. We had both bought rings with the intention of proposing but I shied away and Lee beat me to it! He had to hide the ring in his pants so I wouldn’t see the box shape in the pocket of his linen trousers!

We were married on 30th August 2009 (reshoot date 20th November 2011) at The Hillbark Hotel, Royden Park in the Wirral.  I had seen footage of the venue at my old work and fell in love with it. With no prices on the website we were initially put off but went to see it all the same. We couldn’t help but be blown away and thankfully the prices weren’t scary. When we went back we couldn’t help but feel butterflies again.

We kept it simple with white flowers and light blue bridesmaids dresses and waistcoats. The table plan was New York themed as that was where we went together after meeting at Camp in Minnesota back in 2002 (it took 28hrs on a coach!).

For my wedding gown, I had a lace vintage number in mind but nothing I found really suited me. My Nana actually picked my dress out after seeing it in a window and making my try it on. It was perfect and she loved it that much she helped pay for it! It was an Ellis Bridal design and I haven’t seen it anywhere else! The shop was a local one by my Mum’s in Newark, Notts.

.

I carried a white bouquet full or different sized roses, lisanthus, stephanotis… and other white flowers but I can’t remember their names! I went for a frilly look.

The most important special touch on our day was writing our own vows. Civil ceremonies can be so short so we tried to make it as personal as possible. I also decorated our cake, with the help of my bridesmaid/ sister in law, with handmade daisies and a personalised cake topper (the first one lost the grooms head in the oven!). We had our invitations designed by a friend and worked closely with him to get them perfect.

.

We also learnt a quickstep for our first dance to show off a bit and then had a hip hop dance group perform afterwards as we love dance! We tried to make it all as personal as possible.

A friend made a white tiered cake with Chocolate, fruit and lemon sponge. I then decorated with white ribbon and flower paste daisies with crystal centres.

.

In the evening, we lit Thai lanterns (trust me, very entertaining to watch when its windy!) and watched them float into nothingness.

We honeymooned in Hong Kong and then Koh Samui in Thailand. I can’t wait to go back and we’ve found ourselves eating a lot of Thai food since we’ve been back!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be that it really is true what they say, the day will pass by so quickly and it’s worth taking time out throughout the day to reflect. We found that the best way to take it all in and slow everything down a little! Investing in photo and video is a must.  If, after the day, you are unfortunate enough to go through what we have then a ‘re-shoot’ is a must. The good memories and feelings from the day came flooding back just being at the Hillbark and we now have some nice couple shots that we can treasure forever and share with our family.

.

.

Lucky for Charlene, she also caught her actual big day on video camera… here are her highlights!
