Get ready for an achingly cool real wedding as we welcome fabulous newlyweds Jane and Nathan to the blog. The super fashionable industrial interior of Holmes Mill in Clitheroe provided the swoon-worthy backdrop to their big day; with its bare plaster walls, metal columns and cinema-style fold-away seating, perfectly styled with simple, blowsy blooms of hydrangea and sweeping curves of festoon lights. There’s even a chic Louis Ghost chair to perch on while signing the register.
Jane is effortlessly beautiful in a Halfpenny London dress, a classic vintage-inspired gown with fine corded lace and delicate cap sleeves. The open back and dropped waist add a modern feel that is totally at home with the industrial vibes. She finishes her outfit with a stunning pair of towering Jimmy Choo sandals in delicate grey. The guys are equally cool in black tie, which looks great against the shimmering blue of the bridesmaid dresses.
Family is important, and so the couple’s adorable twins quite rightly take centre stage, and fabulous details from those closest them, such as the hand-drawn table names by Jane’s father, add wonderful personal elements to the celebrations too.
Diary Date: Love Nathan and Jane’s choice of venue? Then be sure to join us for our Urban Luxe Wedding Show at the stunning Holmes Mill on Sunday 23rd September, 11am to 2pm, FREE ENTRY.

jane says: We got engaged in Palma in June 2016, after almost six years together. I’d given Nathan quite the hard time about proposing, so I don’t think he had much choice!
We got married on Saturday 26th May 2018. We wanted a bank holiday weekend so we could have a ‘wedding weekend’, extending the festivities to the Sunday.
We had our ceremony and reception at Holmes Mill, Clitheroe. I found the venue by chance on Instagram and loved the pictures, so took Nathan along to have a look. We both fell in love with the place, which was very quirky and different to anything we’d visited already. We wanted somewhere our friends wouldn’t have been to before and, as this was a new venue, it ticked that box. We would absolutely recommend the venue – all the staff were amazing and the day went without any issues.
Our colour scheme was mainly blue and white, which was purely to match the bridesmaids’ dresses, which I’d already fallen in love with.
For my dress, I chose a Halfpenny London design, which was bought from The White Closet in Didsbury. I was actually 12 weeks’ pregnant with twins at the time, so I wanted something that wasn’t too fitted so as to not put too much pressure on me after the birth. The dress was called Violet, which was extra special as this was my grandmother’s name.
Nathan chose a black-tie theme for the men, as he wanted something a bit different to the traditional blue suit. He bought his suit from Reiss.
My bridesmaids wore Ghost dresses in blue, which I loved as they could each wear one that was a slightly different design. I actually found these dresses before my own!

Where is Victoria Warehouse located?
freya says: Victoria Warehouse, a completely unique, entirely innovative event space based in Manchester. The venue, located in Trafford is just a short journey from the city centre and very easily accessible via motorway, rail and tram links.
Tell Brides Up North about the venue, what is its history and how has it changed over the years?
Built in the early 1900’s as predominantly a cotton storage facility, our warehouse buildings have stood as a symbol of this city’s industrial strength and innovation for around 100 years and careful renovations have made it a venue to capture the imagination.
What facilities does it have?
A truly unique venue, with exposed walls, stone floors and a rustic feel, the simplicity of the space provides a blank canvas upon which you can design a spectacular setting for your day. The industrial pillars and original brickwork have been lovingly restored to reveal a striking backdrop across two rooms, that is ideal for both traditional and contemporary celebrations.
Is Victoria Warehouse licensed for civil ceremonies, and what rooms are available for the rest of the celebration?
We are licensed to hold civil ceremonies in The Bays and The Cotton Sheds.
The Bays is our versatile event space within the Victoria Warehouse Hotel. It provides a stunning backdrop for weddings, the raw industrial aesthetic is ideal for both contemporary and traditional ceremonies and due to the richly historic nature of our building. The Bays can hold ceremonies for up to 300 guests with dining for up to 250 guests. Evening receptions can increase to 300 guests across both Bay 1 and Bay 2
The Cotton Sheds combines a raw and urban backdrop (a setting inspired by the Industrial Revolution), with the glitz and glamour of your wedding. With exposed walls, stone floors and a rustic feel, the simplicity of the space provides a blank canvas upon which you can design a spectacular setting for your day. The Cotton Sheds can hold ceremonies for up to 1,500 guests with dining for up to 900 guests meaning its the perfect venue for large multi-cultural celebrations.

While we Brides Up North girls are big fans of timeless stately home settings, we can’t help falling head over heels for the stripped-back industrial style venues that are coming through strong on the current wedding scene.
Today’s celebration takes place at one such venue, a former cotton spinning mill that has been transformed into a stylish wedding venue, complete with exposed brick, wooden floors and pendant lighting. We love!
Bride and groom Kate and Matt, enhanced the venue further by paying homage to the area’s textile industry roots within their décor and colour scheme choices.
There’s lots of pretty to pore over, from Kate’s stunning beaded dress and Hollywood-worthy makeup, to the beautiful bouquets and suspended floral arrangement!
kate says: We got engaged in Alghero, Sardinia, in August 2015 and set the date for a year later, on Monday 15th August 2016.
We chose to marry on this date as we really wanted our wedding at The West Mill in Derby and, due to its popularity, there were limited dates left and we didn’t want to miss out. Luckily, we both work in a school so a Monday wedding in the summer holidays was not a problem for us.
The venue was right up our street with its industrial chic design and its exclusive use for our big day. The setting is beautiful right on the river Derwrnt and only ten minutes from Derby.
We went with a simple, cotton mill theme for the wedding in honour of the building and because we are both from Rochdale and Oldham, renowned for their part in the textile industry during the industrial revolution.
The colour scheme was made up of rustic tones, with white, cream and peach flowers and navy for the groomsmen’s suits.
I chose to wear a vintage beaded dress by Maggie Sottero from Brides and Gowns, located in Derby city centre. I chose it for its simplicity and style, I wanted to maintain a classic look in keeping with the venue.
Matt wore a navy Venttuno suit with a cream waistcoat and champagne cravat from Moss Bros. The groomsmen wore the same as Matt but with champagne ties instead of cravats.
On the day of the wedding myself, my mum and my bridesmaids travelled to the venue by limousine.

Hey Brides Up North? It’s Fridaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
To celebrate, and maybe (just maybe) get you in the mood for letting your hair down a little, we’re featuring this fun styled wedding shoot which was directed and shot by Kristin and Mark Williamson, from events and photography company, Mr and Mrs W. By blinding you with lights, neon, glitter and confetti their team are here to remind you just how much fun weddings can be!
kristin says: We took inspiration from 90’s rave to 70’s disco and set it within the warehouse venue B’Eat Street Manchester.
The sensational gowns and hair creations were supplied by Manchester based wonder team Jean Jackson Couture (a Brides Up North Sponsor no less); the UV hair styles were created by Claire at Harry Jon MUA and the ‘glittertastic’ make up was applied by Jody Ann Yates at Lynette Page Makeup Artistry.
The neon backdrops with powerful flower statements were made by Manchester’s own Springbank Flowers; the marquee letters with a twist were supplied by The Word is Love and theundoubtedly amazing lighting, complete with glitter balls and confetti, was provided by Lightech Sound and Light.
Our inspiration for this shoot was to show that a wedding should be a fun, rather than stressful event, with the bride and groom plus all their friends and family have a raging good time. Our DJ, Flic made sure we did this on the day by playing us some great music to get us all into the disco vibe.
As a team we are really excited that the industrial look is coming to the wedding industry as it can be so diverse. We hope we have given everyone a real insight into this style and whilst we know that most weddings aren’t going to look like this, couples can take elements from the images and really turn their wedding party into something really memorable.
Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love getting the music on and having a really good dance!
