pastels & petals. a bespoke emma hunt dress for an elegant wedding in north yorkshire – emma & jamie

January 14th, 2016 | Rachel Parry

Ladies you’re in for an absolute treat today as this morning’s real wedding is brimming with pretty inspiration to take note of.

After tying the knot during a traditional church ceremony, Emma, Jamie and their wedding guests carried on the celebrations in an elegantly styled marquee, pitched in the bride’s parents’ garden.

We adore the pretty pastel colour scheme and in particular the maids’ muted coloured dresses and the a-maz-ing flowers created by Emma’s talented mum.

Top of our swoon-list though has to be the bride’s stunning bespoke gown, made by British designer Emma Hunt.

emma says: We got engaged in February 2014 in Dubai. Jamie had planned a surprise holiday during half term and I didn’t know where we were going until the day we were leaving, which also happened to be my birthday! On our first night in Dubai we went out for dinner at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the Dubai Fountain. When we got back to the hotel room, Jamie got down on one knee and presented me with a gorgeous vintage style diamond ring and asked me to marry him. I said yes then burst into tears before calling our families to tell them the exciting news! Weeks before our engagement, I’d pointed out the style of ring I liked and Jamie had remembered and had a similar ring made especially for me!

We got married on 11th July 2015. As a teacher, I knew I wanted the wedding to be in the summer holidays so I could have some time before the wedding to do any last minute preparations and so we would have time to go off on our honeymoon afterwards. It worked perfectly and we were really lucky with the British weather!

We got married at All Saints’ Church, Ripley in North Yorkshire. Jamie is from Winchester and I grew up near Harrogate and for the last 15 years my parents have lived in their beautiful home near Ripley. It’s a lovely village and the church is stunning. We knew straight away that it would be where we would hold our wedding.

We held the reception at my parents’ home which, as it turns out, lends itself perfectly as a wedding venue! It has super views over Harrogate with plenty of space for a marquee, drinks reception and even a bar in the stable! I had dreamt of having my wedding at home and it was just what we both wanted.

It might be Monday, but it’s the last Monday before Christmas which makes it bearable, right? And to ease you into these last few working days before the festive break we have something truly beautiful to share with you – the wedding of Lauren and Lee.

Now this is a couple with impeccable taste who know that you don’t have to go OTT to make a statement. The understated beauty of this wedding is what makes it so special and easy on the eye.

lauren says: We got engaged after being together for six years in November 2013. We’d recently moved into our first house together and so Lee proposed at home in our front room, out of the blue after I got home from work one night. I work in retail management, so hours around Christmas time are long and stressful, coming home from work to a proposal at 11pm was definitely a welcome surprise although I was entirely lost for words!

We got married on Sunday 30th August 2015, which was the Bank Holiday weekend. We wanted people to have a little longer to enjoy the celebrations, and be able to travel to the venue and relax the day before. My parents wedding anniversary is on the 31st, and they were celebrating their 30th anniversary this year so it felt like a way to share to celebrations while everyone was together.

We got married at Oulton Hall in Leeds. We live just outside of Manchester now, but met in Leeds which is where Lee is originally from and where I went to university. We looked around a lot of venues, across the North West and Yorkshire, and found a lot of places only ticked a couple of boxes. One of my bridesmaids suggested Oulton Hall, as she’d looked at it before deciding to get married abroad instead. We fell in love with how it was so grand but in an understated way, and felt really warm. The décor of the Repton Room was something nowhere else had and fitted in with a lot of ideas I’d already had about the wedding. We also liked the idea that the reception is held in another part of the hotel, at The Claret Jug in the golf clubhouse. It was nice to have a change of scenery and have a different ambience for the evening reception.

Another reason we chose a venue in Leeds was because Lee’s dad sadly passed away in 2005 and is buried at the cemetery around the corner from Oulton Hall. It was nice to think although he couldn’t be there, he wasn’t too far away.

Friday Fabulous!

January 18th, 2013 | Julia Braime

Friday Fabulous Jo Malone

After this past fortnight’s mega office move here at Brides Up North HQ, combined with internet provider issues, server hell and the busiest inbox a girl could ever contemplate, sometimes a treat is in order.

.

If you’ve also hit the New Year running and all that wedding planning is taking it’s toll (sometimes, there is just so much in-law input a bride can handle, right?) then you might consider flexing the plastic too.

.

Spot of afternoon tea anyone?  Delightful.
