For the wannabe modern brides out there, we think you’ll be a little smitten with today’s fantastically stylish and contemporary wedding shoot, which takes place in a 1970s warehouse in the heart of Manchester.

Led by wedding and fashion photographer, Kellianne Newiss, the shoot is quite literally beaming with a beautiful crisp white palette, illuminated by pops of copper, striking neon lighting and tropical flowers.

As for the fashion – there’s a variation of minimal styles to pore over, with sheer fabrics, princess-perfect tulle and slinky thigh-high splits all on show. This is paired with an understated makeup look and chic, undone hairstyling.

Bringing together a team of talented suppliers, Kellianne was not only keen to show off this quirky venue’s key features – we’re talking skylights, concrete floors and glass brick walls – but also give the modern-day bride some fresh, original ideas on how to inject creativity into their special day. Our verdict? We think you’re going to be inspired as Kellianne explains all…

kellianne says: I have recently had two children (who are aged three and one) and have not really had too much time to be creative and get together with likeminded people, so when the opportunity came up to put this shoot together – I jumped at the chance.

I wanted the photos to reflect the modern bride. Someone who might want to get married in a quirky and different venue, so when I was approached by Five Four Studios, I thought it was the ideal location for the shoot.

Five Four Studios has just started holding wedding ceremonies so they were interested in having some wedding photos taken there. I love the clean, white, bright space and lines and couldn’t wait to get a team on-board to shoot there.

Beautiful loft rooms, white walls and reflective concrete floors were the setting for the shoot. We wanted to create a look for the modern bride, nothing too traditional, with beautiful flowers, stunning dresses and creative backdrops.

Ollie from The Word is Love brought some of his signature lighting pieces to go with the industrial feel of the space and the shoot. He had just made a copper frame, which we all loved, that he used with both neon lettering and festoon lighting.

We broke all the rules, with Sasha from Sass Flower using traditional blooms, tropical flowers, leaves and dried preserved grasses featuring anthuriums, quicksand roses, calla lilies, platinum sprayed palm leaves and black stepgrass in the form of a bouquet and floral backdrop decor for that perfect ceremony moment.

The calligraphy fabric and “and so the adventure begins” backdrop was created by The Soiree Stylists.

With the natural daylight spilling through glass brick walls and streaming through huge skylights, we wanted to keep styling to a minimum and let the gowns speak for themselves.

The gowns we used for this shoot – created by Jessica Bennett – were a perfect pairing with the modern, clean and minimal aesthetic of Five Four Studios. They also provided the ideal bridal look to offset against the dark and moody blooms by Sass Flower.

kellianne says: This fantastic collaboration came about as we all wanted to create some great, fresh bridal photos that were beautiful, but not traditional. We were inspired by natural, bohemian photography with a bit of an edge and we felt that all the elements came together to create this.

Hope Mill Theatre was the fantastic location for the photo shoot. I loved the rustic feel of the mill with its exposed brick, wooden beams and natural light spilling through the windows, combined with its urban, industrial feel. Where possible I photographed our model Beth with natural light and wanted the photos to have a dreamy, natural feel but with a modern twist.

In terms of styling, the dresses used in the shoot were by Anna Campbell, Daughters of Simone and Houghton, exclusively available from and supplied by Jean Jackson Couture. The inspiration for the choice of dresses was gowns for the fashion forward bride with a love of 70’s vintage – free spirited brides not afraid of breaking rules. The amazing flowers that complemented the look were supplied by Frog Floral Artistry.
