It’s holiday season here on the blog, and as the editorial team take a short break, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding lovely. Usual service will recommence on Monday 3rd July 2017 but in the meantime watch out for recaps of some of our favourite Real Weddings from the first half of the year so far.

Today’s couple are one after my own heart making the main focus of the day all about food!
Treating their guests to a six-course tasting menu at their favourite French restaurant, plus maroons as favours and an incredible multi-flavoured wedding cake, there’s no way that anyone went home hungry from this big day.
In addition to the banqueting, there are plenty of other fine elements to feast the eyes on, including Aimee’s elegant Rosa Clara gown, the maids pretty blush multi-ways and is that a sweet table that we spy? Time to indulge…

oli says: I proposed to Aimee at The Savoy Hotel in London. I had gone down the day before to drop the ring off with the hotel and asked them to place it in our suite under a silver cloche with flowers and champagne in the room. Aimee thought they had given us someone else’s room by mistake and was reluctant to lift the cloche and find the ring – after some encouragement she did so and was very surprised!
We chose 29th June as the date for the wedding due to a couple of reasons. The first being that the restaurant we wanted for the wedding meant we could only have exclusive use on selected days. The second reason was that one of the groomsmen was playing for Wales in the European Football Championships so the date was supposed to be well planned for when we thought they may get eliminated – unfortunately they got to the semi-finals and he missed the wedding!
We held or ceremony at Manchester Town Hall as we met at the Christmas Markets in front of the Town Hall, and in fact, in front of the Lords Mayors Parlour where we got married. Once we had a closer look at the venue we fell in love with it even more. We then went onto The French restaurant at The Midland Hotel, for the wedding breakfast as we love fine dining and this is our favourite restaurant in the city. We chose Didsbury House Hotel for the reception.
We also used Eleven Didsbury Hotel for the night before the wedding and Aimee stayed at King Street Townhouse in the city centre the night before. We love the hotels, the interiors and touches in the rooms are fantastic. The fact we could also take some of them over exclusively for us was great.
We didn’t have a theme for the wedding – we just wanted great food and fantastic venues.
The colour scheme was blush pink. We based this decision on what flowers would be in season that we liked at the time of the wedding.
The bridesmaids’ dresses were multiway designs from In One Clothing.
Myself and the groomsmen wore Sandringham morning suits from Debenhams hire department with white shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt. I had a patterned pink Hermes tie, while the groomsmen wore plain pink ties. On the day of the wedding we also had our hair styled by MR.SE who is the owner of a leading men’s hair styling range in the UK.

Today’s real wedding takes place at Christmas time, but it’s anything but a traditional yuletide affair. Joanne and Timothy opted for a classy, neutral palette of ivory and green, with some Christmas sparkle in the shape of some rather stunning gold sequined bridesmaid dresses!
Spring might be approaching here at BUN HQ, but if you’re after a good dose of festive cheer – with some scrumptious macarons and bubbles thrown in for good measure – scroll down for all the fabulous details.

joanne says: We got engaged during a trip to Paris in December 2015, which was an early Christmas present from Tim. We arrived at our hotel, Maison Souquet, late afternoon and decided to have a stroll around Paris. He took me to the Bir-Hakeim Bridge overlooking the Eiffel Tower and that’s where he popped the question. He even had a photographer ready to capture the moment. The photographer then took us to other beautiful locations for more engagement photographs. That night, Tim took me to dinner and to the ballet.
We got married a year later, on 21st December 2016. We are both big fans of Christmas and wanted a wintery, Christmas wedding. I really hoped it would snow! I am a primary school teacher so had to squeeze in the wedding and honeymoon during the school holidays.
We tied the knot at West Tower country manor in Aughton, which was our favourite venue. We viewed it first and nothing else compared. The venue is so pretty and in a perfect location for our family and friends. Inside, it has a neutral colour scheme, which means it wouldn’t clash with any colour I chose.
Our theme for the day centered on Christmas, but not in the traditional red and green sort of way! I love neutral colours and wanted the venue to be full of ivory flowers and greenery. West Tower already had gold Christmas decorations, so I decided to dress my bridesmaids in sequin gold to match.
I purchased a Rosa Clara wedding dress from the Knutsford Wedding Gallery, in Cheshire and teamed this with Sophia Webster shoes. I am only 5’ 2” and knew that I wouldn’t suit anything that hid my frame, so I chose a slim fitting and backless gown. I knew that Tim would love it, too!

As soon as we spotted today’s real wedding we knew it would be perfect for the blog, not only because it’s incredibly pretty, but also because it’s brimming with our favourite colour, pink!
Every element of Rachel and Brandon’s well-styled big day blends together seamlessly, from the rustic barn wedding setting with exposed stone and beams, to the cute bunting strung along the walls and the also the stunning floral displays placed upon the tables.
The bride and groom say their main aim was to deliver a day that was fun and joyful – looking at the images we’d say mission well and truly accomplished!

rachel says: We got engaged when we seized a brief moment of alone time on Christmas Day 2013. Brandon had been working away a lot so it was poignant that we were able to savour this moment at home – well, my parents’ home, but at least we were in our home country (where we live anyway, Brandon is American).
After our engagement we chose 23rd April 2015 as our wedding date, which was a Thursday. Family and friends were travelling from all over the world and with those journeys in mind we thought that a Thursday would be easier for people. It also meant we saved a few pennies here and there on the venue and some suppliers. A hidden benefit for us was that suppliers had better availability so there was less pressure to get them booked.
Our venue was The Ashes in Endon, Staffordshire. We chose it for its beautiful Grade II listed barns and stunning scenery. We wanted a stress-free ride and loved the idea of their team of expert planners. Plus we could provide our own wine (wine tasting was definitely one of the preparation highlights)!
We wanted the day to be fun and joyful and so we picked things we really liked to incorporate into our day. We ended up making a lot of things ourselves and involving friends, all of which just evolved as the planning progressed.
For our colour scheme we chose blush and navy as the principal colours almost instinctively.
The dress I chose was the polar opposite of what I started out looking for – it was a wildcard. As soon as I put it on I loved it. It felt so much fun to wear and I couldn’t stop grinning. It was from Knutsford Wedding Gallery.
On the wedding day my flawless makeup was by Gemma at Dollface Makeup Studio in Macclesfield. She was lovely to work with. My gorgeous hair meanwhile was by Vicky at Anthony James, Altrincham.
Brandon wore a blue racing green suit, a Charles Tyrwhitt shirt and a Dessy tie and pocket square to match with the Dessy dress of my maid-of-honour. He had stripy blue and pink socks that matched the rest of the wedding party.
My maid-of-honour wore a blush floor-length dress from Dessy and the groomsmen and fathers of the bride and groom wore navy racing green suits and blush ties and pocket squares from Dessy.
Our ceremony was pretty special and a first for the registry office, which took some organising! We had the co-founder of Sunday Assembly, Sanderson Jones, as our MC. We really wanted a ceremony that was as personalised to us as we could make it. He created such a celebratory atmosphere and had the whole room singing and cheering throughout. He balanced humour and jubilation with thoughtful words on marriage.
I was adamant I wanted signing to be a part of our ceremony and we were honoured to have James Adams, an amazing musician and close family friend, play for us. We had the whole congregation singing, and he played a medley solo whilst we signed the register.
To transport our guests to The Ashes we hired a big red bus from Routemaster for Hire, Wrexham. It was a fabulous sight to watch it slowly make its way up the long winding road at The Ashes.
We loved our photographer Joe, from One Little Daisy in Leek, from the day we met him. So much so we didn’t even meet with anyone else. One unique thing that he offers is a ‘Go-pro video’ of the ceremony and speeches. We’d whole-heartedly recommend him for his professionalism, his friendly nature and his stunning photos.
I was blown away by my bouquet. I have never seen anything like it. The variety and precision was remarkable. Our florist, Nadia of Nadia Di Tullio Flowers, did an immense job of interpreting my array of thoughts and ramblings.
When it came to decorations, we wanted them to be fun and joyful. For our floral decorations we incorporated some blues and purples to complement the pinks, whites and ivories used in the bouquets. We had a stunning six-foot arrangement for the ceremony table, which we moved to the top table. Everything floral was provided by our florist, Nadia of Nadia Di Tullio Flowers.
Our elegant bunting, from Bunting with Love, was excellent quality. The owner was exceptionally helpful and went out of her way to help us. We then supplied the many props ourselves.
My friend Laura kindly made our beautiful cake. She isn’t a professional baker so we were hugely honoured that she went to so much effort in her spare time to create such a masterpiece. The bottom and top layers were fruit and the middle layer was sponge. We served it alongside the evening buffet.
The highlight of our wedding breakfast was the ‘Host a Roast’ sirloin beef. We had pre-selected a carver for each table, each of whom were presented with an apron and a chef’s hat. This aligned with our theme to create a fun day for everyone. It was a great way to get guests talking at the tables and great fun to watch from the top table. The food, which was impeccable, was provided by Jenkinsons, the venue’s resident caterer.
We were very excited to be able to have carte blanche to choose our own wines (with no corkage!). We sought wines that would stand up to being drunk without food, as there can be a lot of time between courses at a wedding. We paired the asparagus and Serano ham starter with a lively Australian Voignier and chose a sumptuous Spanish Garnacha to accompany the roast beef. For the toasts we enjoyed a beautifully refreshing Valdobbiadene Prosecco.
We took a traditional approach to the entertainment and hired a band called the Warning Tones, who were fab and had the dance floor filled the whole night.
There was a few special touches added to the day to make it all the more memorable including a ‘first look’. Brandon and I were keen to share as much of the day together as we could and so shared a few special minutes together before the ceremony.
With the help of others, we also made some lovely homemade items for the wedding. My maid-of-honour made our fun table plan and confetti cones. We wanted to incorporate an element that united our two nationalities. Brandon and I made the place names, champagne cork holders and table names, amongst other bits and pieces and my dad made the blackboards that our page boys carried.
As something a little bit different we had a Poloroid guestbook, which our guests loved! It includes so many fun photos.
We would absolutely recommend our venue to other brides and grooms. It’s picturesque, arranged perfectly and has all the necessary elements, including the ‘Dairy’ where the bride and her maids can get ready.
My favourite part of the day was the ceremony, we had such a blast singing and dancing. Who knew comedy had a place in a wedding, it was so much fun.
Following the wedding, we had a mini-moon in the Peak District. It was heavenly to nip away for a few days without the added hassle of having to prepare for a full honeymoon. We’ll be honeymooning in the USA after spending some time with Brandon’s family.
My top tips to other Brides Up North would be to wed on a Thursday! It makes booking suppliers so much simpler. Also, have a first look! It was so special to share those few minutes together just the two of us. It took away any butterflies for the ceremony and I’d say we enjoyed the ceremony more for it.

Today’s bride took inspiration from iconic film The Great Gatsby when it came to styling her wedding day – and boy did she hit the nail on the head!
Rosalind pieced together her vintage vision bit by bit, incorporating a beaded wedding dress, fringe detailed bridesmaid gowns, posh transport and a feather-topped cake along the way for a fabulous 1920’s style big day.

rosalind says: Michael proposed to me on Christmas Eve 2012. It was perfect, we were at home with our little boy Jacob when Mike told me there was a present hanging on the Christmas tree. When I looked closer there was a small black box amongst the baubles and when I turned round he was on one knee.
We were married in front of all our family andfriends at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Haigh on 11th April 2015. This is my family parish so it was very special for us to be married in this church and by Fr Kevin.
We chose Ashfield House for our reception venue as it has such lovely features and grounds. The distance from the church to the venue was perfect. When we arranged our first appointment all the staff were so friendly and helpful we knew this was the venue for us. Throughout the whole experience the staff were brilliant, none of our requests were too much trouble, plus the food was delicious too!
Our theme was 1920’s, I love everything about this era from the hair and makeup to the clothes and styling. When I showed Mike some the ideas I had found on Pinterest he agreed that this was the theme for us.
In terms of the colour scheme, our bridesmaids were dressed in a light pink/peach colour and the flowers were a range of pink, peach, lilac and a hint of cream. We introduced silver into the stationery too.
For my wedding dress I chose Lauren by Eliza Jane Howell. It’s a 1920’s vintage inspired beaded dress with silver detail. I purchased it from Knutsford Wedding Gallery, Joy and the ladies were so friendly and welcoming. As soon as I tried the dress on I knew it was the one for me. I chose a replica of Daisy’s headpiece from The Great Gatsby and my veil was cathedral length with crystal embellishment around the edge by Amanda Wyatt. This was also from Knutsford Wedding Gallery. I chose all my jewellery from Swarovski.
I love makeup and hair so this was a very important factor for me. I found The Vintage Beauty Parlour online and booked a trial soon after. Anna listened to what I wanted and made me feel amazing. They are so professional and know vintage styles like no one else.
Mike hired his suit from Whitfield and Ward in Wilmslow. They were brilliant, after seeing them at a wedding fayre we decided to book an appointment. Craig asked what we wanted and when we told him our theme he dressed Mike in his suit. It was just how we had imagined him look. Craig and Nicola are very friendly and we would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for lovely suits with great service.
My bridesmaids dresses were made by my mum who is brilliant at sewing and their headpieces were bracelets that we adapted from Debenhams. The ushers were all in similar suits to Michael, also hired from Whitfield and Ward.
We chose the two brilliant ladies behind That Special Day Stationery to design and make our stationery. We discussed ideas and they made sample designs for us to look at. They made the most perfect save the dates, invites, order of service, place cards and table plan. They were brilliant and we cannot recommend them highly enough.
Our florists, Margaret and Janet from The Gilded Lily, were also amazing! Flowers were so important to me and I had a lot of ideas. I knew on our first appointment that The Gilded Lily was the florist for us. We have had so much fun planning the flowers with them. They listened to our ideas and created the most beautiful arrangements. We purchased our own crystal candelabra’s and Margaret came up with different ideas for them. The top table arrangement had all my favourite flowers in, such as pale pink peonies, hydrangeas and roses including, Norma Jean and Rosalind. My bouquet was made up of roses as well a pink peonies and stems of wheat to give a wild effect. Brides looking for a brilliant florist with lots of great ideas should visit The Gilded Lily!
David and Jane of Stanbury Photography were our photographers. They photographed my sister’s wedding three years prior to ours so they were the only choice for us. They are so talented at what they do that we had complete confidence in them to photograph our wedding day. They capture moments that you can’t even remember happening and the attention to detail is second to none. They were with us from getting ready in the morning to our first dance and we hardly knew they were there. We are blown away by how good the pictures are and we cannot recommend David and Jane highly enough.
For our transport we used a company called Classic Wedding Cars. Jim there has an amazing collection of cars, we chose a black and ivory 1920’s style Bramwith and an ivory vintage Rolls Royce. Jim was so professional and friendly on the day and the cars were immaculate too.
I have a very talented aunty who made our dream wedding cake as our wedding present. Vi incorporated the silhouette design from our stationery to add to one of the tiers and we bought some feathers to add a 1920’s feel to the top tier. We loved everything about it and everyone commented how delicious it was. We can’t thank her enough.
My best friend and bridesmaid Kirsty is a graphic designer and so we asked her to design cards as favours for our male guests which entitled them to a drink on us at the bar. We hired a barrel of cask ale from Problem Child Brewery in Parbold for the bar. They allowed us to rename the beer ‘Prymul’ which incorporated both our surnames; Pryle and Mulligan. Kirsty then designed a crest to put on the hand pull which incorporated the silhouettes and various shapes from our invites.
My dad died suddenly three years prior to our wedding and I really wanted to make him a part of our special day so I gave our florist Margaret a small picture of him in a frame to include in my bouquet. I also borrowed a cameo that my dad had bought for my mum and asked her to pin it to the stem of the flowers.
We had pictures of dad and Mike’s aunty who had died the week before our wedding in church with a lit candle. The next day we distributed the wedding flowers on family graves in the cemetery.
To entertain our guests we had the Brixi Singers choir singing various hymns in church throughout the service and we asked them to sing I Will Follow Him from the film Sister Act when we were leaving church. They were great and performed beautifully on the day.
It was the Grand National on the day of our wedding so we used the same cards designed by Kirsty to give all our guests the name of a horse running in the race. The race was played over the radio and the three winners were given a small prize announced during the speeches.
We enjoyed the whole day, but my favourite part has to be walking down the aisle and seeing Michael and all our family and friends.
We haven’t managed to go away on honeymoon yet as we were back at work soon after the wedding but will be looking to go somewhere in summer, which gives us something to look forward to.
My top tip for other Brides Up North would be don’t get too stressed when planning, think of what’s important to you and book that first and then you can add extras. Also, have confidence in your suppliers as they really are brilliant at what they do!
