pretty in pink. stella york for a romantic wedding at newton hall – samantha & mark

February 20th, 2017 | Rachel Parry

A Pretty Wedding at Newton Hall (c) Helen Russell Photography (85)

Prepare yourself for some Monday afternoon swooning ladies, as this real wedding at Newton Hall has all the necessary elements to make you go completely weak at the knees.

From the picture-perfect venue, to the dreamy colour palette, and the bride’s show-stopping dress – we are 100% in love!

samantha says: We got engaged in November 2010. We had talked about getting engaged in the past and when we found out we were expecting our first child, Mark suggested we make it official and bought me a beautiful engagement ring.

We got married on Friday 4th November 2016 – we had been together for eight years to the date.  We both wanted an autumn/winter wedding, something that didn’t rely on the weather being beautiful.  However, we were lucky enough to be blessed with some gorgeous winter sunshine.

We got married at Newton Hall in Northumberland. The venue is quirky and beautifully decorated and offers exclusive hire, which was something that was particularly important to us. It has the perfect mix of luxury with an intimate, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It was the first venue that we visited and we fell in love immediately, each room is decorated so elegantly. We did visit one other venue, but nothing compared; we already had made our minds up.

We didn’t have a theme as such, we just chose finishing touches that complemented the style of Newton Hall.  We chose a mix of vintage and rustic accessories to add to the already quirky detail within the hall.

We chose a pale pink colour scheme as I wanted a soft colour which added to my vintage theme.

We booked our wedding back in June 2014 and I couldn’t wait to go dress shopping. I managed to hold off until one year before the wedding as I was afraid I would change my mind. I am quite an indecisive person, and couldn’t believe how easy I had been making decisions leading up to our wedding, surely my dress was going to be the most difficult decision yet.

I booked an appointment at The Wedding Dress Company in Corbridge, as they were holding a Stella York event and I had become really fond of the designer after scrolling through wedding dresses for a number of months. The ladies in the shop were extremely helpful. I explained that I wanted something with a detailed back which was a fit and flare style. With each dress I tried on, I found less things to dislike. Then they handed me ‘my’ dress, it was a Stella York fit and flare dress in champagne with ivory lace overlay. It had beautiful detail and had the most amazing illusion back; it fastened with beautiful buttons. Surely, I couldn’t buy my dress in the first shop I went to? But I did, and it was perfect!

Usual service will recommence on Monday 9th January 2017 but in the meantime watch out for recaps of some of our favourite Real Weddings from 2016.

Drop in every day for the very prettiest, most unique wedding inspiration and – if you are a Brides Up North bride – to see if your real wedding was one of our top picks.

Brace yourself for some incredible beauty and blooms, as today’s real wedding is among the prettiest that we have ever seen!

The elegant wedding of Stefanie and Jason took place at the incredibly stunning, exclusive-use venue that is Lartington Hall, a beautiful country manor in the Teesdale countryside. As you can see from Stefanie and Jason’s wedding, beautifully captured by photographer Helen Russell, this is a first class venue for a first class big day!

stefanie says: We got engaged on 8th May 2015, which was exactly six years to the day since we met. Jason had booked a surprise trip away to New York, and I only found out where we were going once we arrived at the airport. It was such an emotional moment when I found out!

On the second afternoon there Jason had booked me a surprise massage in the hotel spa. When I returned to the room he was nowhere to be seen! He had left me a note saying I had to be ready for 7pm as a driver would be waiting for me at the hotel reception. The driver took me to a mystery location which turned out to be a private rooftop overlooking Manhattan. Jason was there waiting for me with a bouquet of red roses and his hand behind his back! He then got down on one knee! We celebrated with a bottle of champagne on the rooftop, before heading to a lovely little restaurant nestled underneath Brooklyn Bridge with a view of Manhattan, to continue the celebrations. It really was like fairy tale!

We got married on 8th October 2016. We chose this date as the venue we had fallen in love with – Lartington Hall – was fully booked up for every Saturday until this date!

Lartington Hall is a beautiful country manor in the Teesdale countryside. We got a good feeling as soon as we drove up to the venue, along the long gravel track through a field of curious sheep! We instantly fell in love when we saw how stunning all the rooms were, it certainly had the wow factor we were looking for. We also loved that the venue offered exclusive use of the hall and gardens for the weekend. Knowing it was just our friends and family there certainly gave it a more intimate feel.

We didn’t have a theme as such however we wanted to create a stylish and luxurious feel that tied in with the style of the venue.

The colour scheme was pale grey/blue with lots of whites/creams and a hint of blush. We also incorporated a lot of gold as Lartington Hall has lots of gold detailing throughout the venue. For example we added gold beaded charger plates from The Whole Sch-bang, to complement the gold chairs and the gold mirrors/candelabras in the dining room where we had our wedding breakfast.

My wedding dress was a Moroccan silk and lace fitted gown by Martina Liana from Ava Rose Hamilton, in Silsden. The top half of the dress was made from guipure lace, with illusion sleeves and an illusion back. There were buttons right the way down the back of the dress from the top to the bottom of the skirt. I visited a few wedding dress shops first but nowhere seemed to have the style of dress I was after. I then spent hours searching the internet trying to find this style of dress, but struggled to find one that had all the aspects I envisioned! When I finally came across this Martina Liana gown, it was the only dress I got shivers over, I knew it was the one before I even tried it on! Ava Rose Hamilton ordered a sample dress into store for me to try and it was everything I imagined. Terri (the seamstress) did an incredible job at making sure the dress fitted perfectly – it fitted like a glove!

On the morning of the wedding, Lisa Cameron did the hair for the bridal party and Heather-Francesca did our makeup. We would highly recommend both, they were brilliant to have around on the morning and a calming presence as I was extremely nervous the whole morning.

Jason and his groomsmen wore navy blue suits from Marks & Spencer. Jason originally wanted to go for a designer suit, however with five groomsmen it was getting rather pricey! In the end we came across a really good quality suit in M&S. Jason also wore a Thomas Pink shirt, a navy spotted tie and a grey waistcoat. He completed his look with Ted Baker shoes, Mulberry cufflinks and a Mulberry tie clip.

The groomsmen wore grey bowties and pocket squares from Mrs Bowtie and dark brown shoes from ASOS.

just peachy. maggie sottero for a romantic wedding at matfen hall – lisa & paul

A Pretty Pastel Wedding at Matfen Hall (c) Helen Russell Photography (50)

Where to start with today’s wedding? We love it all!

From the venue to the wedding party’s attire, everything about Lisa and Paul’s big day says elegance and class in an effective yet understated manner.

The pretty colour palette of peaches, pastels and nudes work effortlessly with the setting and with the gorgeous gold, sparkly decor that’s been added for the perfect touch of glamour.

lisa says: We got engaged in June 2013. I was on a hen weekend in Marbella and Paul decided to purchase the ring while I was away and proposed to me as soon as I returned home!

We set the date for 27th March 2015 as we wanted a spring wedding and plenty of time to plan! Matfen Hall was our chosen venue. It was the first place we looked at and following viewing numerous other venues, we always went back to Matfen. The east wing and basement, in particular, sold it to us!

We decided on a vintage/ art deco theme with a colour scheme of peaches, pastels and nudes. We worked around the colour of the bridesmaid dresses which were warm colours for the time of year that we were getting married.

Femmes Fatales: The Brides Up North Wedding Belles Photo Shoot!

July 5th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

At last!  This morning I am so proud to share with you the results of the Brides Up North Wedding Belles Photo Shoot here on the wedding blog

.

With stunning photography from Emerson Photography and Mandy Charlton, what this fantastic group of Northern wedding industry suppliers were trying to achieve was a bridal fashion shoot that was that little bit different, with a big dash of beautiful and a slice of edge.  After a lot of planning, emails, phone calls and fittings, I think we achieved just that.

.

Inspired by the vintage glamour of the Hitchcock heroines, old Hollywood thrillers and le film noir, here is our own little piece of digital history.

.

I really hope that you love what we have produced.  Be inspired.
