Getting your Monday off to the most gorgeous of starts, we’re sharing the dreamy big day of newlyweds Nicola and Richard, which took place at stunning North West venue, Ashfield House.
What initially captured our attention (and will most probably steal yours too!) is Nicola’s amazing choice of dress – an halterneck collard Jesús Peiró creation with a daring yet elegant slit at the front and beautiful bow at the waist. It’s a wow-gown for sure and one that Nicola absolutely rocks!
Second to ignite our starry eyes are the blooms – an abundance of striking but soft gypsophila cloud type arrangements; from the dainty bouquets to giant orb decorations studded with blush roses. So simple, so lush!
All in all, this glorious wedding has our swoon-metre set at high throughout with the detailing and attire coming together perfectly for a stylish and sophisticated affair!

nicola says: We got engaged on my birthday, 9th September, in 2016. Richard was meant to propose in a restaurant during my birthday meal; however, he lost his nerve and then dropped to one knee as soon as we walked through the door at home! Our two beautiful girls, Maisie (seven) and Florence (four), were also there.
We got married on 5th April 2018. We wanted a spring wedding and it fitted with the school holidays as I’m a teacher. We also wanted to have a minimoon in April and then a bigger honeymoon in the summer!
We held both our ceremony and reception at Ashfield House, Wigan. We live local to the venue and we often take the children to play in the grounds/park attached. The venue has won numerous awards recently, including best wedding venue (town and city) at the UK Wedding Industry Awards. We would definitely recommend it to other couples. The wedding planner, Josh, was fab. He oversaw everything so that Richard and I could just enjoy the day. The venue is beautiful, and all the guests commented on the décor, food and atmosphere.
We didn’t have a theme as such; rather, we wanted to keep the day very simple, classic and elegant. However, we did want to give it a modern twist. The colours we chose were navy blue, white and a very pale blush pink, as Richard really wanted a navy blue suit, so we tried to fit the rest of the colour scheme to that. I wanted simple, white gypsophila flowers from the moment we started to plan and, to tie the blue and white together, we then introduced pale blush pink.
My dress was by Jesús Peiró from Lovebird Brides in Ilkley. I saw the designer featured at a Brides Up North wedding show and I loved the style – very clean lines and simple but dramatic at the same time. I then looked at all the dresses available from the designer and fell in love with it! I only tried that dress and one other on – I knew straight away this was the dress. I love the modern look and clean, simple lines; however, I also feel that it won’t date as it is a classic shape.
I had my makeup done by a fantastic girl, Makeup by Rebecca G based in Widnes. She came to the venue and worked all morning applying makeup to me, my bridesmaids and my mum. All our hair was done by Hair by Vision, based in Wigan.

For 2017, Charlie Brear presents a fashion-led bridal collection inspired by a modern take on cocktail wear. Off-the-shoulder sleeves, front-split skirts, low sexy backs can all be seen in collection, alongside the signature bridal separates. In addition to sandwiched silks, crepe and fine grain satins are new innovative fabrics, including body form stretch lace and crepe, and architectural lace.
Any particular favourites or stand out pieces within the collection for you personally?
I adore the Marceau dress with its low back and wrap around detailing. The Wren dress is beautiful too in full lace with off-the-shoulder strap. Saying that, the whole collection is stunning!

Any particular favourites or stand out pieces within the collections for you personally?
From the Jesus Peiro collection my favourite has to be the 6000 or ‘the bow dress’, as I like to call it. The unique cut of this dress, the halter neck, higher neckline and the full skirt make it a real showstopper – and the pockets just make it super cool! I adore Charlie Brear’s Aubrey top and Augustine skirt with a washed satin sash, the lace sleeves, buttons and the tulle attachment on the top make this piece so unique.
What is the price range of the Jesus Peiro and the Charlie Brear dresses that you stock?
Jesus Peiro start at around £1500 up to £3000 and Charlie Brear start at around £1300 up to £3000.

After months of design and hours of tediously hand stitching these beautiful creations, laura rhodes has finally launched her first jewellery and accessory collection, and Brides Up North are thrilled to be the very first to bring this luxury collection of hand-made pieces to your attention.
Never seen before, these beauties are designed and created by Laura herself in her Ilkley studio set within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. These opulent accessories are crafted to the highest standard using only the finest components with every piece being lovingly hand stitched with stunning attention to detail. The collection doesn’t follow trends – instead Laura designs and creates timeless pieces that will last and be worn over and over again.
After ‘discovering’ Laura’s work at London’s White Gallery trade event earlier this year, we are thrilled to bring these pieces to our pretty pages as an exclusive first look. We know that you’ll love these treasures just as much as we do! Get ready to twinkle…

Accessories are an important part of any outfit, as a bride they can completely change or complete your look on the big day, with this in mind the Laura Rhodes collection covers all aspects ranging from headpieces and earrings to statement necklaces and sash belts. Brides can also put their own mark on their accessories by meeting Laura at the studio and having a bespoke piece specially designed.
To coincide with the launch of her first collection, Laura Rhodes has also launched her website www.laurarhodesbridal.com where brides who are not local to the studio can view and purchase the entire range, allowing the designs to be available both nationally and internationally.
laura says: I love what I do and I take a great deal of pride in each and every piece. I am a perfectionist and my own worst critic but that is what makes my work what it is. I like to think my creations are some-thing that can be passed on, timeless and without age. I consider each creation an individual piece of art and continue to take my inspiration from everyday architecture and nature. A lot of thought has gone into each design, each having been sketched many times in my book before I begin creating. I still feel so honored when someone chooses to buy my work; there is nothing more re-warding than when a bride chooses to wear one of my designs on her special day.

When did Lovebird Brides open and what is your background?
laura says: Lovebird Brides opened its doors with an amazing launch party in October 2014.
I’ve had a varied career working within the creative industries, starting with a degree in design before working in interior design, event planning, teaching and then jewellery making. The problem is I’ve always got to be making something even when just relaxing in the evening! Whilst on maternity leave I took this time to focus on my love of making jewellery and when my baby was old enough, I opened my studio in the World Heritage Site of Saltaire. It turned out this decision paid off, I began making statement pieces but soon had brides visiting me to make them bespoke bridal jewellery.
One thing led to another and my other obsession for vintage dresses combined with brides telling me they were struggling to find the dresses they wanted, gowns that reflected their personality and style led to me opening Lovebird Brides. I wanted to fill this gap for brides concentrating on selecting designers that offered designs that were fashion forward, well made and practical but still maintained that beauty and elegance that a wedding dress should offer.
Which wedding gown designers do you stock?
We also stock Maria Senvo, I was instantly drawn to the embellishment and detail on these beautiful gowns, definitely one for the fashionista brides!
With a busy year ahead planned, you need to keep your eyes peeled for a new designer or two being introduced to the boutique.
What bridal accessories designers do you stock?
Lovebird Brides is the home of Lah De Da Accessories. I hand make this beautiful range of accessories in my studio within the boutique where all my sample pieces are available for brides to see and try on. I love that we can create a completely unique look for a bride whether it’s a headpiece, belt, statement necklace or adding beading to the dress. The finishing accessories are so important as a bride can put their own stamp on a gown and feels that they have given their own creative input into the design of these bespoke pieces. I feel this is something they will struggle to get anywhere else.
We are also very lucky to stock the amazing Charlotte Mills bridal shoes that are so pretty, beautifully made and super comfortable but what is even better is they can also be worn again and again after your wedding day!
What makes you different?
At Lovebird Brides we focus on fashion forward brides with wedding dresses that break away from tradition, gowns that reflect their individual style and personality. As a boutique we feel it is important not to crowd the shop with too many dresses overwhelming the bride. Instead we concentrate on handpicking strong designs each very different from the next.
It is important to us when a bride first visits the boutique that our style and the layout of the shop not only reflects the individuality of our gowns but is a place where our brides can feel comfortable making the most important fashion purchase of their lives! From our zebra print rug and fuchsia pink chandelier to our Victorian clothes airer rails we want to make it an experience that our bride will never forget.
One major factor adding to our uniqueness is that we hand make all our accessories to compliment our brides dresses right here in the boutique. Even for the bride who has already found their gown we can offer them exclusive accessory appointments to create bespoke pieces for their big day, for their bridesmaids or for mother of the bride.
Where are you located?
We are located in the beautiful Yorkshire village of Addingham, just outside the centre of Ilkley. Many of our brides choose to make a day of it, celebrating with a cream tea or pub lunch in the village or nipping round the corner to view the beautiful sights of Bolton Abbey.
Can you give Brides Up North an idea on price?
Our dresses start at £990 and go up to £2550.
What can Brides Up North expect when they come in for an appointment?
As a luxury boutique we work by appointment only. It is important to us that a bride gets the attention she deserves without any interruptions. We like to gain an understanding of the whole theme of the wedding and listen carefully to what the bride is looking for. Dress appointments are an hour and a half long and forty-five minutes for accessories. Brides can expect to have exclusive use of the boutique for their bridal party and we always have a bottle of prosecco and cakes at the ready, sometimes even homemade by me!
What is your current favourite gown that you stock and why?
With so many it’s really hard to pick a favourite dress but if I was pushed I would say I have a real soft spot for Lucy-Lou by Charlotte Balbier, with all its lace it is just a timeless and elegant gown.
What trends do you see being popular this year?
I think the trends in bridal this year will be blush dresses and gold accessories, which I love! Embellishment on dresses seems to be what brides like so I think we will see plenty of this in new bridal collections.
Who would be a Lovebird Bride?
A Lovebird Bride is a lady who wants to look the best version of herself. She wants a dress that is elegant but shows her sense of style too. She is a bride who wants some creative input in the overall bridal look and wants to feel comfortable and classic on her most special day.
Are you married? What did you wear on your wedding day? What would you choose to wear now?
I have been married for almost four years now and wore a Maggie Sottero wedding dress that was strapless with a corseted back in dark champagne. At the time this style was definitely everywhere and although I loved it I don’t think it really reflected me. Now I would definitely either wear a dress with sleeves and a low back or perhaps separates with a bolero jacket and definitely a statement necklace!
