The gorgeously vivid flowers that feature in today’s real wedding between Sophie and Rob add some real pizzazz to this lovely summer celebration; in pinks and oranges, purples and yellows, they pop spectacularly against the neutral marquee and white paper lanterns and balloons. Achieving a ‘grown-up boho’ vibe for their big day, Sophie and Rob opted for some lovely homemade details, such as the chalkboard running order of the day and table plan.
Sophie went with a lesser known designer for her delicate boho-inspired dress; the Inbal Raviv creation is stunning with its lace and bead embellishments and unusual tassel straps. Completing her ensemble with a headdress of vibrant flowers and a simple pair of earrings, Sophie’s look is elegant and oh-so chic with a playful twist.
Sophie and Rob had all the right connections to make their wedding extra special. Working in PR meant Sophie had access to plenty of fantastic suppliers and being the son of the Bishop of Warrington meant Rob could secure a pretty high-profile figure to conduct the ceremony – not many people can say they’ve been married by their own father!

sophie says: We got engaged during a weekend away that Rob booked “as he had some points on his credit card” to spend, which saw us staying in a hotel in Richmond for the weekend – one of my favourite places in London. I should have thought it was all too good to be true (we were in a huge suite) but was, of course, completely oblivious. After we’d had lunch and been to the spa, he caught me off guard in the room with the ring and I was completely shocked. We then headed for a meal by the river and a few too many drinks to celebrate! The next day he’d planned a surprise Sunday lunch with friends, too: safe to say I had a very sore head on Monday at work.
We got married on 12th August 2017 and had our reception at the amazing Priory Cottages in Wetherby, which I cannot rate highly enough. We looked at loads of places online (we live in London but wanted to get married in the north as Rob is from Sheffield and I’m a Leeds girl) and wanted somewhere we could celebrate for the weekend and that felt informal and fun. The cottages meant we could have the whole wedding party stay the night before and the night of, and it had a beautiful marquee and gardens, of which we could have free reign. Serena at The Priory was amazing and answered so many of our questions, putting us at ease and making everything super easy – we would 100% recommend it. The Priory is a stunning setting (so many people said so) and the people who manage it (shout out to the lovely Serena and Phoebe) are so helpful and down to earth and honestly made the experience so hassle free and easy. I asked so many questions and they always had an answer and can suggest great suppliers to work with, as well as tips for the big day.
We had our ceremony in a gorgeous village church up the road from The Priory, called Wighill Church. Rob’s dad is part of the church (at the time, the Bishop of Warrington) and so he married us, which was one of the most amazing parts of the day. He got everyone laughing and really matched the service to our personalities and became a bit of a celebrity at the reception afterwards.
For transport, we splashed out and hired a little red sports car – an AC Cobra for anyone who knows anything about cars – from Classic Car Hire North, which actually became one of our favourite bits about the day – it looked so good in pictures! My dad drove him and I to the church and then Rob and I drove back with the top down (the hair wasn’t loving it, but it was worth it) down all the pretty country roads.
There was no theme as such but we’re both quite non-traditional in our style and wanted something laid back to match the countryside setting. If forced to say so, I would describe it as ‘grown-up boho’, which probably started with my dress and came through in everything else. We just tried to pick things that felt like our personality. We had such a great backdrop to begin with, with The Priory, which really brought everything together.
In terms of a colour scheme, I scoured Pinterest and became obsessed with big, bright bouquets and flowers, which is the opposite to my usual style as I’m often dressed head to toe in black or one simple colour, but I loved the pictures and so decided that, to make it more ‘us’, we’d create a really simple white blank canvas, with white lanterns and balloons, and then have bright flowers popping throughout.

With the weekend almost in sight, we think it’s high time for some serious dress candy; which might just be the extra inspiration you need if you’re about to embark on your dream gown search.
Today’s gorgeous loot of loveliness comes in the form of the brand-new collection from our fabulous Sponsor Luella’s Bridal. Located in the Wimbledon Village area of London, this independent boutique not only stocks a stylish range of creations from edgy international designers, but it also produces its own line of totally dreamy dresses.
Having just launched their second collection, titled Expectations, the team at Luella’s wanted you lucky Brides Up North readers to be among the first to see these utterly beautiful gowns in all their glory. And so today we’re brining you a first look at the five stunning designs that make up the collection, while finding out about the inspiration behind these fine creations.
Here to tell us more is the lovely owner of Luella’s, Rachel Attwell…
Tell us about the inspiration behind Expectations?
rachel says: The collection is inspired by Trinidadian jewellery designer, Sarah May. The collection includes five distinctly different dresses, which have been carefully designed to match Sarah’s island pod rings, which were inspired by her original engagement ring and then her subsequent life journey. Named; Happy, Love, Dream, Believe and Abundance.
The idea behind the collection, is that each ring can be interpreted in the wearers own unique way and Luella’s felt that there was something truly special about having a ring to wear that is so personal to each individual.
As such, we felt that it was important to include an assortment of styles to reflect the essence of the rings and therefore our bride’s personality. Each dress has an element of sparkle so that even the simplest styles, still look and feel truly special.
Can you give us an overview of the styles of dresses that make up the collection?
All of the dresses have been designed by the Luella’s team and are handmade in the UK. Each has been designed to reflect our beautiful free-spirited brides and includes a mixture of simple understated and intricately beaded slip style dresses and beautiful lace and tulle gowns. There is a selection of low plunging backs, soft flowing skirts, stunning hand beaded lace and our signature pleated skirt.
What about the fabrics and colourways used within the collection?
The collection is made from a variety of beautiful silks, satins and French laces and the most exquisite selection of hand beaded appliques. We have used more than 16 metres of tulle in the skirt of one of our designs! The dresses are made in a mixture of colours ranging from soft ivories to warm cream tones and our Nieve dress also comes with a slip that can be ordered in a choice of ivory or oyster.
Talk us through the dress designs one by one…
Isla – The Isla dress is made from two layers of sumptuous silk satin in a soft ivory colourway. The bias-cut design features a low v neckline and plunging v-back which is framed with the most exquisite handmade beading in a floral design in ivory and soft blush tones. The dress also features and optional long flowing train and can be made in either off white, ivory or oyster silk satin.

As out and out wedding dress obsessives, we’re always keen to hear of a new collection of dresses to develop a serious crush on. So, when our Sponsor, the fabulous Luella’s Bridal, got in touch to say they we’re welcoming a new designer to their boutique this month, we just had to find out more (and share all the details with you, of course!)
As of October, Luella’s will be stocking the Bo & Luca TEMPLE collection. Dreamily delicate and beautifully boho, these dresses are slinky, stylish and edgy – putting them perfectly in-line with Luella’s ethos of offering brides originality and beauty through their choice of carefully selected designers.
Located in the Wimbledon Village area of London, the boutique offers a relaxing and enjoyable shopping experience with knowledgeable stylists to assist and advise brides on finding the perfect dress for an individual big day look.
Here to tell us more about the arrival of the Bow & Luca and whom the label will appeal to, is the lovely Rachel Attwell, owner of Luella’s…
How would you describe the style of Bo & Luca designs and why did you pick this designer for Luella’s?
rachel says: Boho luxe. They are definitely the coolest bohemian brand around. They really fit in with our style of wedding dresses and this year’s bridal trends and we just know our brides are going to love them.
Can you tell us a little about the TEMPLE collection?
With beautiful flowing skirts, silk tiers and loose silhouettes, the TEMPLE collection has all the boho style of the original Bo & Luca collection but they are just a little bit more understated and effortless. They’re also slightly less expensive, with dresses starting from £2,650, which is perfect for brides with a budget.
Do you have a particular favourite design from the collection?
We honestly like so many of them, but a particular favourite of mine is the Primrose dress. It has really beautiful detailing on the sleeves and a beautiful layered skirt. Our store manager Philippa’s preferred gown is Elsa, with the delicate beading around the neckline and soft figure-hugging shape.
What type of bride would be a Luella’s bride?
Luella’s brides are those looking for a vintage or bohemian inspired bridal gown with a difference, whether it is one with lots of detailing or a minimalistic, extremely simple style dress.

Today we have news of an exciting new #dreamteam with two of our fabulous Sponsors teaming up to bring you lucky brides-to-be a stunning choice of exquisite dresses and gorgeous accessories, all under one roof.
As from next month Manchester-based Charlotte Mills will be stocking her fancy bridal footwear at the wonderful Luella’s Bridal boutique, located in Wimbledon, London. And to mark the beginning of the pretty partnership, the boutique will be hosting an exclusive launch event on the 2nd and 3rd September – to which you are all invited!
As well as the opportunity to try on Charlotte’s stunning footwear, those who book an appointment for the event at Luella’s will also get to meet the designer herself during a one-to-one consultation, and, better still, will receive a fabulous 10% discount on any purchases made from her collection.
We spoke to Rachel Attwell, the founder and creative director of Luella’s.
rachel says: We are so excited about our new venture with Charlotte. Her designs perfectly complement the dresses we have in store and our brides are going to be really spoilt for choice.
Not only are we going to be able to offer our customers a fantastic variety of styles, but we will be carrying a large quantity of stock, so they will also be able to walk away on the day with a pair of shoes in their size. We view this as a key step towards really giving our brides what they are asking for and leading the way in instant bridal fashion.
As it’s the first time that the entire Charlotte Mills collection will be available to purchase in London, the northern designer is equally thrilled about the union.
charlotte says: I’m delighted to be working with Rachel and the team at Luella’s to bring our collection to London brides. We opened our first boutique, based in Greater Manchester, in March this year and it’s been a huge success. We have so many brides in the south wanting to see the shoes and try them on, so this collaboration will be the perfect opportunity for us to make this possible.
To book an appointment to meet Charlotte on the 2nd or 3rd of September and to receive 10% discount, email Luella’s directly at email@example.com

It’s time to get those diaries out again ladies as we’ve got details of an exclusive preview event that you won’t want to miss out on.
A must for those of you currently on the dress hunt, our fabulous Sponsor Luella’s Bridal, will be taking delivery of the latest gowns from amazing designer Limor Rosen for a unique preview of the entire Birds of Paradise Collection, which is guaranteed to send you weak at the knees.
Based in the heart of Wimbledon Village, London, those making the trip to the gorgeous boutique for the event, which takes place between 27th and 28th August, can expect champagne, discounts and expert advice in the search for that one special dress.
The Birds of Paradise collection incorporates soft, slender silk tulles with polished and fine beaded lace to create feminine, romantic silhouettes, providing plenty of swoon-worthy options for brides-to-be to pick from.
To tell us more about the exciting event and how to make an appointment to attend, we’re welcoming Luella’s Bridal founder Rachel Attwell to the blog…
Can you tell us a little about the upcoming Limor Rosen Wedding Dress Preview Event?
rachel says: The three-day event will be the only time that the entire Limor Rosen Birds of Paradise Collection is going to be available to view in the UK. Girls will be invited to the store to enjoy a glass of champagne with their friends or family, whilst trying on this amazing selection of dresses.
What are the main benefits of such an event for brides?
Following the event we will select a few designs to have in the store but we definitely won’t be stocking all of them and our samples won’t be arriving in store until later on in the autumn. This means that if brides are planning a wedding next spring they would need to order at the event to be able to get a dress in time. Without the preview event they simply wouldn’t have the option of ordering the dresses in time or trying on such a selection.
Will there be any special treats at the event?
Absolutely. There will be champagne and a 10% discount off any of the new collection dresses as long as the order is placed during the event.
What type of bride is a Limor Rosen bride?
Limor’s designs appeal to all sorts of brides because of the really flattering fit and the variety of designs in her collections. There is a trend for brides to choose an Israeli style dress at the moment but some of these designs can be quite revealing. Limor seems to have got the perfect balance between creating designs that show off a bride’s silhouette whilst remaining modest, which can be very important for those getting married in a church. Her designs are also the perfect mix of modern and traditional, which is another reason that they appeal to so many brides.
What sizes are the Birds of Paradise designs available in and what is the price range of the collection?
The dresses available in sizes 6 to 18, however ladies will only be able to try on in the sample size at the event. All of the dresses are made to order so we take each brides measurements and then work out the closest possible size. The price range of these dresses is from £3,900 – £5,400 with 10% off if you place your order at the event.
Do you have any advice for brides-to-be on any preparation that they can do prior to attending the event?
I think it’s really important that girls have a good look at all of the designs before they book their appointment to see if they are the sort of styles that they are looking for. Having said that you never really know what a dress is going to look like until you try it on, so it might still be worth coming for a look even if you are a bit unsure whether the designs will suit you or not. As we have previously mentioned, we anticipate that most brides will be making a decision on the day due to time restrictions so we would definitely suggest trying on other styles in other shops first just so that you can feel confident and happy with the choice you are making.
How do ladies go about booking an appointment for the event?
They can call us on 020 88797744 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org but they will have to be quick because the appointments are filling up fast!
