For the Yorkshire ladies amongst us, we have one very special date for the diary: a Brides Up North Luxury Bridal Show at Denton Hall, Ilkley, Sunday 5th November 2017, 11am till 3pm, FREE entry.

It’s holiday season here on the blog, and as the editorial team take a short break, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding lovely. The elegant wedding of Stefanie and Jason took place at the incredibly stunning, exclusive-use venue that is Lartington Hall, a beautiful country manor in the Teesdale countryside. As you can see from Stefanie and Jason’s wedding, beautifully captured by photographer Helen Russell, this is a first class venue for a first class big day!

stefanie says: We got engaged on 8th May 2015, which was exactly six years to the day since we met. Jason had booked a surprise trip away to New York, and I only found out where we were going once we arrived at the airport. It was such an emotional moment when I found out!
On the second afternoon there Jason had booked me a surprise massage in the hotel spa. When I returned to the room he was nowhere to be seen! He had left me a note saying I had to be ready for 7pm as a driver would be waiting for me at the hotel reception. The driver took me to a mystery location which turned out to be a private rooftop overlooking Manhattan. Jason was there waiting for me with a bouquet of red roses and his hand behind his back! He then got down on one knee! We celebrated with a bottle of champagne on the rooftop, before heading to a lovely little restaurant nestled underneath Brooklyn Bridge with a view of Manhattan, to continue the celebrations. It really was like fairy tale!
We got married on 8th October 2016. We chose this date as the venue we had fallen in love with – Lartington Hall – was fully booked up for every Saturday until this date!
Lartington Hall is a beautiful country manor in the Teesdale countryside. We got a good feeling as soon as we drove up to the venue, along the long gravel track through a field of curious sheep! We instantly fell in love when we saw how stunning all the rooms were, it certainly had the wow factor we were looking for. We also loved that the venue offered exclusive use of the hall and gardens for the weekend. Knowing it was just our friends and family there certainly gave it a more intimate feel.
We didn’t have a theme as such however we wanted to create a stylish and luxurious feel that tied in with the style of the venue.
The colour scheme was pale grey/blue with lots of whites/creams and a hint of blush. We also incorporated a lot of gold as Lartington Hall has lots of gold detailing throughout the venue. For example we added gold beaded charger plates from The Whole Sch-bang, to complement the gold chairs and the gold mirrors/candelabras in the dining room where we had our wedding breakfast.
My wedding dress was a Moroccan silk and lace fitted gown by Martina Liana from Ava Rose Hamilton, in Silsden. The top half of the dress was made from guipure lace, with illusion sleeves and an illusion back. There were buttons right the way down the back of the dress from the top to the bottom of the skirt. I visited a few wedding dress shops first but nowhere seemed to have the style of dress I was after. I then spent hours searching the internet trying to find this style of dress, but struggled to find one that had all the aspects I envisioned! When I finally came across this Martina Liana gown, it was the only dress I got shivers over, I knew it was the one before I even tried it on! Ava Rose Hamilton ordered a sample dress into store for me to try and it was everything I imagined. Terri (the seamstress) did an incredible job at making sure the dress fitted perfectly – it fitted like a glove!
On the morning of the wedding, Lisa Cameron did the hair for the bridal party and Heather-Francesca did our makeup. We would highly recommend both, they were brilliant to have around on the morning and a calming presence as I was extremely nervous the whole morning.
Jason and his groomsmen wore navy blue suits from Marks & Spencer. Jason originally wanted to go for a designer suit, however with five groomsmen it was getting rather pricey! In the end we came across a really good quality suit in M&S. Jason also wore a Thomas Pink shirt, a navy spotted tie and a grey waistcoat. He completed his look with Ted Baker shoes, Mulberry cufflinks and a Mulberry tie clip.

2016 is by far our busiest and most exciting year yet (the team have like, one Sunday off each out of 52) and we’d love to help you and your #bridesquad get your wedding inspo on and see you at one of our very special wedding shows this autumn.
We are proud to be working with some stunning new partner venues this season – watch out for dates at Lartington Hall, Saltmarshe Hall, Chester Grosvenor, Adlington Hall, The Belle Epoque, Hornington Manor, Newby Hall, Cutlers’ Hall and Worsley Park Marriott, to name a few – as well as some well established Brides Up North favourites, like Capesthorne Hall, Denton Hall, Ramside Hall, Hardwick Hall, The Bowdon Rooms, Hilltop Country House, Allerton Castle, The Alnwick Garden, Nostell Priory, Wentworth Woodhouse, The Mansion… the list goes on…
For those Brides Up North readers who are new around these parts, we have a loyal and local following both on these pretty pages and off, and have hosted over 80 gorgeous wedding exhibitions and soirees since 2012! We’ve amassed
a fair bit a ridiculous amount of experience in this time, and are always tweaking our events and offering (every single event at every single one of our beautiful partner venues is completely bespoke and meticulously planned from scratch each season, we’re fussy like that). We generally hate blowing our own trumpet (modest? us? noooo!) but we really do think that our shows are the very best in the business, and pride ourselves on delivering an amazing and inspiring experience to both our visiting brides and exhibitors alike.
Watch out for new features (like our amazing WHITEHOT designer catwalks at Ramside Hall, tipi village at Hardwick Hall and debuting the brand new Orangery at Newby Hall), plus all the Brides Up North magic and sparkle and sensational exhibitor mix that comes as standard.

As an immersive luxury bridal experience spanning two days in this celebrated, accessible exhibition space in the heart of the UK, brides/UNVEILED will aim to bring the stylish pages of our popular media products to life. With bespoke spaces, creative concepts and luxe visual displays like no other, this high end consumer bridal event aims to connect the inspiration gathering process with the professionals who can deliver sensational results. Beg, steal and borrow is the main advise from this afternoon’s bride who achieved her dream wedding without breaking the bank.
Having found their perfect wedding venue in the form of The Bowdon Rooms in Cheshire, today’s real wedding couple Justine and Darren, set about planning a classy wedding with Art Deco influences, spending the budget on what they felt were the most important elements and then making, blagging and bartering what remained.
Here at Brides Up North HQ we’re more than familiar with just how fabulous this unique wedding venue is as we stage our luxury wedding exhibitions in its stylish surroundings twice a year (the next one is coming up on 17th April 2016, so put it in your dairies!) Excellent choice Justine and Darren!

justine says: Darren proposed to me in Barcelona. We had booked the trip for his birthday and knowing our finances inside out I knew there was no way he had an engagement ring. We arrived late to our hotel and were given a beautiful suite with a balcony but it was past midnight and we couldn’t get any alcoholic drinks as we just planned to have a little drink on our veranda. We trekked the darkened street and I used my broken Spanish to ask for crisps and a bottle of rose in a kebab shop. Having conquered the quest for booze – we went back to the balcony where I sat munching cheesy puffs, Darren disappeared into the room saying he was going to hang his clothes up (he’s never done that before). Then he appeared around the curtain holding a beautiful carved wooden ring box and said “I’ve got something you can wear if you like, but you’ll have to wear it for a long time” he then knelt in a puddle and asked me to marry him revealing my dream ring – a bright sapphire flanked by two diamonds which he had designed and made for me. I was in absolute shock that he had managed to hide it all – and of course I said yes.
On wedding was on 5th April 2015. We picked Easter Sunday as we felt the majority of our friends and family would be able to make it and enjoy the festivities over a bank holiday weekend. We were willing to gamble the weather and it paid off with glorious sunshine following a week of hail and snow!
The Bowdon Rooms, in Cheshire, was our chosen venue. The moment we walked in to The Bowdon Rooms, I knew it was for us. Our co-ordinator and every single member of staff made us feel like a priority. They worked with us on whatever budget I proposed, whatever idea I was exploring with the most genuine enthusiasm. The building is a 1930s music hall with glorious ballroom and jazz club upstairs, it has an unpretentious elegance and wow factor whilst remaining individual and suited us completely. I wouldn’t change my venue for all the tea in china and know how lucky I was to have the staff around me as wonderful as they are there.

If you are a long term follower of our blog (*waves*) you’ll know that we are also very proud to edit a glossy print magazine, Unveiled, which is a bi-annual bridal publication, and the luxury wedding magazine for the North of the UK.
I work purely on the creative side for Unveiled, which makes it a total passion project and a dream come true for the girl who grew up wanting to be editor of Vogue. If Vogue was a bridal mag, Unveiled would get close. No lie.
As I said in my Editor’s letter at the opening of issue #04: targeted from its inception at the discerning, luxury bride (that’s you, dear reader), Unveiled is glossier and more gorgeous than the rest. A true coffee table tome, it’s always been the best looking. My brief? To give this beauty some heart and soul.
I was proud to press print on my first issue in charge this autumn and the collaboration has been (even if I do say so myself!) an unprecedented success. To everyone who called, emailed or wrote – and especially those who sent chocolate – to congratulate me on A/W2015, thank you so much for your support. Unveiled is available to buy online, at WHSmiths across the North of the UK, independent retailers and all the very best wedding exhibitions. I do hope that you managed to pick up your copy and that its helping to inspire some seriously chic wedding plans. Get it while you can, as issue #05 is already well underway, landing spring 2016.
But, you know us. Once we’ve found something that our readers love and want more of, we can’t just let it go. We’ve an absolutely amazing season of innovative and excellent Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibitions and events planned for 2016 (and boho brides, have you checked out our brand new WEDSTOCK and WEDSTIVAL concepts yet?) but for 2017, it feels right to go even bigger. To plan, produce and deliver to the North a truly designer wedding show – an entirely bespoke offering crafted in collaboration with our favourite suppliers and our readers – super glossy, super inspiring, but still wholly useful and accessible to all. Basically to bring together everything we do best at both Brides Up North and Unveiled, put it all under one huge roof, and add a cherry on the top.
So, it’s set: Our multi award winning wedding blog Brides Up North in collaboration with Unveiled magazine, is thrilled to bring you brides/unveiled The Luxury Wedding Show, debuting spring 2017 at Harrogate International Centre.
As an immersive luxury bridal experience spanning two days in this celebrated, accessible exhibition space in the heart of the UK, brides/UNVEILED will aim to bring the stylish pages of our popular media products to life.
