Real Wedding Recap Winter 2013: Pretty Vintage: Sparkly Choos For A Real Wedding At Styal Lodge – Ali & Will

December 26th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Its holiday season here on the blog, and as the team take a break until to rest and recharge for what’s set to be the biggest and best year yet at Brides Up North HQ, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding pretty.

Usual service will recommence on 2nd January 2014,  but in the meantime watch out for recaps of our favourite Real Weddings in 2013.  Drop in every day for the very, very prettiest wedding inspiration and if you are a Brides Up North bride, to see if your Real Wedding was one of our top picks.

I love every Real Wedding that is featured here on the wedding blog, but now and again a special celebration comes along that really knocks my socks off.  This, my friends, is one of those weddings.

.

I don’t know if its the personalised photograph name places (how long must that have taken?), the pretty table decor, the bride’s beautiful twisty updo, those dancing Choos, or the fact that you can feel the happiness radiating out of the screen this morning, but Ali and Will’s big day at Styal Lodge in Cheshire really does it for me.  I hope you enjoy our recap.

Ali says:  We got engaged in November 2011. Will took me to Sheffield for the weekend of our 9 year anniversary. We met whilst at University in Sheffield at the Leadmill. He proposed as close as he could get to the spot where we first met (unfortunately the club was closed that night)!

We got married on the 11th May 2013 at Styal Lodge.  We had both the ceremony and reception at the lodge.  We looked at a few venues and as soon as we saw Styal Lodge, we fell in love with it. It is such an amazing venue and the family who run it are lovely.

I wanted it to be pretty with a vintage feel.

I did not really have a colour scheme until we got the bridesmaid dresses. They wore navy so we chose purples, blues and white.

My dress was Nicole Anne from Timeless Bride in Poynton. I had an idea of what I wanted and as soon as I tried it on I knew it was ‘the one’. Michelle at Timeless Bride was fantastic and really helpful during the whole process. My hair clip was from Sash and Co . The shoes were from Jimmy Choo. I am really into shoes and I as soon as I saw them, I fell in love!

.

My hair was done by Paisley Gamble at Macleod Bradley and make up by Gemma Hallowell. They were both fantastic and I could not recommend them more.

My bridesmaids wore two different designs by Alfred Sung, Dessy. We got them from Alison Burgess Couture in Stockport. They all wore different coloured shoes including nude, pink and red. The flower girl wore a very cute dress from Monsoon. Will wore a blue three piece from Reiss and all the other men in the bridal party wore their own suits, blue ties and white rose corsages.

We had a Humanist wedding and Hannah Wroe Gill was our celebrant. She was fantastic and so supportive. She put together a personal wedding script which really reflected us.

The whole day was amazing but one of my favourite parts was the ceremony. I loved the readings and hearing a well wishing at the end from our friends and family was really special. We also loved the evening do when all the formalities were over and everyone had a great big party!

I spent a long time researching wedding photographers and this was a really important part of the day for me. We really love the photos Emma has taken and she captured the whole day perfectly. She was amazing on the day and made us feel really relaxed. Emma went beyond our expectations and also stayed later into the night and got some funny photos of the evening do. These are some of our favourites from the day!

My bouquet was made up of blue and purple dyed roses with cala lilies and white freesia. The bridesmaids carried lilac and ivory roses with lilac freesia and fresh foliage.

We used Special Days for flowers and dressing the lodge. They did a brilliant job. I knew I wanted a rustic vintage feel to the flowers. Myself and the bridesmaids decorated old jam jars with lace and fabric which added a homemade touch to the day. Special days also sourced lots of different milk jugs, tea lights, vases and pieces of wood for the tables. Each table had its own feel. I was quite emotional when I saw the room for the first time; they had captured my vision for the day perfectly.

Our caterers were Pink Pepper. As soon as booked them, we knew we were in for something special. Our guests are still talking about how delicious the meal was. I also love the vintage crockery they provide.

We did put a lot of work into the little touches and I would recommend to brides and grooms to start early as we were finishing projects the day before which was quite stressful! One idea was we got photos of each guest for their place name at the table and Will’s dad made 100 wooden photo holders. It took some time but the guests loved them and it was well worth the effort! Another nice feature of the day was we got a Polaroid camera, some cardboard props and a board for guests to pin up photos and write messages on. It worked really well and we got some fun keepsakes from the wedding.

.

.

.

.

For our wedding favours, we had shots of Sambuca. This was a great way of ending the meal and starting off the evening reception!

Rather than one wedding cake, we decided to have a cake table. Our lovely friends and family all pitched in to make a great spread for the day including Guinness cake, fruit and chocolate cakes and banoffee and blueberry cupcakes.

We had Bob the DJ for the evening reception. We did not want a clichéd wedding DJ and Bob came recommended by the lodge. He was great; played the songs we wanted and kept everyone dancing.

We are off to Indonesia on our honeymoon in a few weeks.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to focus on what’s important and try not be too influenced by other people’s ideas. It can get quite overwhelming at times but go with what feels right for you. Also just enjoy the day as it does just so fast!

Terry Fox Couture 2014: A 1920s Styled Bridal Shoot At The Bowdon Rooms

November 1st, 2013 | Julia Braime

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

So, have you got the message yet?  We are hosting another fabulous Luxury & Vintage Wedding Exhibition at The Bowdon Rooms, Altrincham THIS Sunday 3rd November – and we’d really, really like you to be there.  Click here for all the details and to pre-register as a VIP Bride to Be.

The Bowdon Rooms Autumn 2013

Meanwhile…

Combining a bit of wedding dress eye candy of a Friday afternoon and showing off just how versatile this unique venue is (watch our for another real wedding from the venue this afternoon showing it looking completely different!) I’m proud to welcome Emma and Jonny of LOVE Bridal Boutique and Jonny Draper Photography, along with the brilliant Terry Fox, as they introduce Terry’s latest collection.  Enjoy!

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

Tell us about the new collection by Terry Fox?  What was the inspiration behind the collection? Which fabrics were chosen for the new collection and why?

Terry Fox HQ: The 2014 collection from Terry Fox was a particular treat – sizzling with sex-appeal and inspirational in its sheer creativity. Our couture-trained designer makes it look easy and that, perhaps, is the secret of her success; she layers fabrics and colours, patches together delicate pieces of the finest materials to create something that is always surprising and reliant on finish and texture rather than formal silhouettes.

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

Who would be a Terry Fox bride?

TFHQ: A Terry Fox bride knows her own mind, is fabulously gorgeous and is looking for a bridal designer as individual as them!! Let’s say ‘classic with a twist’. Terry Fox brides understand the important aspects of a dress from fit to finish.

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

What sizes are available?

TFHQ: All sizes, all shapes, any fit! Each Terry Fox dress is uniquely created to the brides individual measurements.

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

What sort of price point?

LOVE Bridal Boutique: Prices start from around £2,100 up to and around £3,000. This cost includes the dress being made to a bride’s measurements and any minor modifications to a gown. Here at LOVE we believe Terry’s dresses to be great value for money, particularly considering the dresses are made from the finest silks and laces and are created in the UK.

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

What is the process from finding “the one” to final fitting?

LOVE: When a bride finds her dress here at LOVE, it’s a very special experience indeed, celebrated by the bride and her family with a glass of bubbly and lots of jubilation! At this point a bride’s full measurements are taken in order to ensure a perfect dress fit and also any special requests/requirements are agreed with the bride. All Terry Fox gowns are made-to-measure for every bride. The great thing about a Terry Fox gown is that they can also be modified to suit the bride – silks are available in a multitude of colours, and dress detailing/embellishment can be tailored to the bride’s individual requirements.

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

After this initial order stage a bride will usually revisit the boutique in advance of her first fitting to choose any accessories she might need, and there are a wide range of Terry Fox accessories available to compliment this dress collection perfectly.

When it comes to fittings, the bride will come back into the boutique to try her personalized gown and any minor adjustments required will be made by my in-house seamstress.

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

Why are you so excited to stock Terry Fox at LOVE?

LOVE: When we first saw Terry’s collection down at Terry’s amazing studio in Suffolk (which is a complete treasure trove by the way and just how every girl’s dream bedroom would look!), we were completely blown away and knew instantly they would be the perfect partnership with LOVE. It is clear to see that Terry lives and breathes dresses and beautiful fabrics and that comes across with every gown she creates. Every single last embellishment, intricate embroidery and drape has been carefully thought through and just takes your breath away.

We also knew that these gowns offered our brides a more unusual dress choice, and this is something which I hear time and time again from my brides. When a ‘Terry Fox bride’ (she might not know it yet!) walks through our door her eyes light up instantly. She couldn’t figure out before what she was looking for and why she couldn’t find it… until the moment she sees this beautiful collection!

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

The fact that each gown can be tailor-made to a brides requirements too, with a vast colour selection of silks to choose from is something which offers a fabulous point of difference compared to a lot of other designers on offer.

This stunning collection is definitely for the bride who wants something that little bit different and to express her creativity. Her selection of dress shapes and styles is so refreshing too in a completely inimitable Terry way!

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

What was your inspiration for the shoot, why did you choose the venue/ styling and who was involved?

LOVE: When we saw the new Terry Fox collection at The White Gallery, there was a clear 1920′s, Art Deco feel to it which was one of the reasons we loved it so much. When we realised that the new dresses we had chosen would land at the boutique around the same time as The Great Gatsby was released in the cinema, our overall inspiration for the shoot was born.

We went to see The Great Gatsby & there was such a wonderful nod towards this era in the new Terry Fox collection that we knew we just had to base our shoot on this film.

We got in touch with Neil at the amazing Bowdon Rooms in Cheshire which is an original Art Deco venue and the concept began to come to life!

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

Jonny Draper Photography at The Bowdon Rooms

Cue a call to vintage model, Laura Norrey (we had seen her work on Facebook & knew she would be perfect for this shoot), our amazing friends Paisley Gamble (hairdresser based at Macleod Bradley) and Gemma Hallowell (Make Up Artist), Sian and her gorgeous floral creations at The Didsbury Flower Lounge and award winning photographer (and co-owner of LOVE Bridal Boutique) Jonny Draper and our team was ready! With a simple brief of creating six completely different looks in one single day!

We were also delighted to showcase the new headdress collections from our amazing accessory designers Donna Crain and Halo & Co, and these pieces worked perfectly with Terry’s new collection.

The shoot was amazing.  Since we had a small team on the day, communication was easy, everybody relaxed very quickly and we had a lot of fun.

Each look & set up worked perfectly & Neil and his team at The Bowdon Rooms could not have been more helpful. We were able to use literally anywhere we wanted and I think that is what ultimately gave us this great set of photographs.

Wedding Blog Exclusive: Merry Christmas! Announcing The New Collection By Raimon Bundo at LOVE Bridal Boutique!

December 21st, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Raimon Bundo at LOVE Bridal Boutique by Jonny Draper

.

.

Happy Friday… and Happy Christmas!  Woo hoo! It’s finally here!  I’ll be back later on today to share my Brides Up North Christmas message (it’s been one helluva year people!), but I’m not leaving you out in the cold after that!

.

We’ll be celebrating Christmas in style here at Brides Up North with a daily post recapping on my personal favourites from a year’s worth of gorgeous celebrations  (The 12 Weddings of Christmas, if you like!) to bring us into the New Year.  I love to take a few moments at this time of year to look back and reflect on the 12 months gone by before moving on.  It’s certainly been an inspirational and pretty one here on these swirly silver pages and I can’t wait to trawl through our archives.  If you need a rest from Aunt Maude, eating to the point of bursting, beeping gadgetry, Deal Or No Deal and incessant carolling… you know where to come.

.

.

.

.

In the meantime, we are looking very much ahead, with a wedding blog fashion exclusive from Brides Up North Featured Supplier LOVE Bridal Boutique, based in Cheshire.  I know that Emma and Jonny have been bursting to share news of their latest designer with you lovelies, so I won’t keep them from it a moment more.

.

Today I am happy to introduce the new collection by Spanish designer Raimon Bundo at LOVE Bridal Boutique, the star of this beautiful Christmassy shoot by Jonny Draper Photography, and to chat to Emma, Jonny and Anton Weiss of Raimon Bundo about these utterly stunning wedding gowns: dresses recalling golden days of elegance and unmistakeable quality, with a romantic, bohemian edge.

Tell us about the new collection by Raimon Bundo? What was the inspiration behind the collection?

.

Anton: Designer, Ivonne Ruiz is from Barcelona where the collection is designed and art will always inspire her craft as the city is brimming with it! This year’s collection is inspired by the Impressionist movement whose use of light and colour are reflected in the ethereal fabrics and soft pastel colour palette introduced into the collection. If you watched the Barcelona bridal week catwalk show you would see that Monet – the master of the Impressionists – has pride of place in this year’s collection. Ivonne’s love of art is also closely connected to her love for travel. She spends a lot of time at her place on the Balearic island of Formentera (just close to Ibiza) and the bohemian vibe of this island can especially be observed in the IR by Bundo collection .

.

.

Which fabrics were chosen for the new collection and why?

.

Anton: Fabrics chosen for this years collection include layer upon layer of stunning laces such as Chantilly, the softest silk tulle you can imagine and vintage details such as gold crochet. We have also introduced a lovely very lightweight brocade for brides looking for something completely new.

.

.

Who does Raimon Bundo design for and what sizes are available?

.

Anton: Raimon Bundo designs for all brides of all sizes and we also offer made to measure. Across each of the four collections there is something for all brides: Raimon Bundo mainline (for classic girls who perhaps want a twist), IR by Bundo (for bohemian, alternative, carefree brides: especially good for destination wedding girls!), Kiss (for younger girls, civil ceremonies, budget conscious brides) and Victor and Lucchino (for avant guarde show stopping brides). The collection closest to Ivonne’s heart is IR by Bundo which you will find well stocked at LOVE Bridal Boutique

What sets Raimon Bundo apart from other designers?

.

Anton: A few things: amazing customer service including express turnaround times of four weeks for late brides often for no extra charge, modification and customisation of styles for no extra charge and a really competitive quality/price ratio. We also pride ourselves on the superior quality of our European only fabrics and also on the fact that EVERY dress is 100% hand-made in Barcelona – a claim not all designers can justify!

Tell us about working with your brand new stockist LOVE Bridal Boutique?

.

Anton: We are delighted to be working with LOVE Bridal Boutique because the lovely Emma and Jonny have years between them in the bridal industry and really know what brides want. They instantly recognized what the brand is about, the value and service that we offer compared to other bridal houses and the beauty and originality of the dresses. They also understand the importance of a beautiful photo shoot which you can see from these images… so we know that the image of the brand and our reputation are in good hands!

.

Why are you so excited to stock Raimon Bundo at LOVE?

.

Emma: We first encountered Raimon Bundo at the White Gallery back in May and completely fell in love with the gowns, the branding, the service offering – everything about the brand really!  At that point we were close to launching the boutique and had already committed to the designers we were going to stock, so we managed to hold back and see how the boutique would take off before we took on another designer. After only three months of trading we had well exceeded our targets, and I had noticed a small gap in our dress offering, so it didn’t take long before I was poring over the Raimon Bundo website with my dress wish list growing by the minute! Soon enough we arranged to meet up with Anton to view the dresses at our boutique which were sent over especially to us from Barcelona and we agreed on our final dress list there and then. We chose a selection of dresses from both the mainline Raimon Bundo collection and also IR by Bundo. Jonny and I were completely wowed by the gowns and couldn’t wait for them to arrive into the boutique… so much so that our minds were in overdrive for how we could announce the arrival of the collection at LOVE… obviously we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do a photo shoot! Our brand new dress samples arrived with us within just a month and we were ready to go with our shoot.

.

What is the process from finding “the one” to final fitting?

.

Emma: When a bride falls for a Raimon Bundo gown they will have their measurements taken and I will chat through sizing options with the bride. There is a fabulous made to measure service available too. Also, as Anton mentioned, if a bride has any special requirements, for example changing a neckline to sweetheart neckline or removing a belt feature, then this can be done at no extra cost. The process still remains as easy as possible and a bride will then come back into the boutique for her first fitting with our seamstress around eight weeks before her wedding day. From here she may have one or two additional fitting appointments. At a fitting appointment she will also be able to choose from a wide array of accessories to compliment her gown from our ‘LOVE Bridal Accessories’ department.

.

What was your inspiration for the shoot and why did you choose the venue & styling?

.

Jonny: From the photographer’s perspective, Styal Lodge is one of my absolute favourite wedding venues. It’s a bespoke, hand crafted, family run venue that is built on stunning grounds with a different photographic opportunity every way you turn. I was very mindful of the fact that the shoot would be a winter shoot so weather would more than likely play a (negative!) role on the day, so we planned to shoot everything inside. This led to a minor problem in that the interior of the lodge is very distinctive (one of the reasons I love it!) and we wanted to style this shoot in a way that people looking at it would have to do a double take that it was even at Styal Lodge. More than anything, we wanted to showcase the venue’s versatility and show what can be done when you let a team made up of super creative wedding specialists get together and come up with something a little bit different…

.

.

Raimon Bundo at LOVE Bridal Boutique by Jonny Draper

.

.

Raimon Bundo at LOVE Bridal Boutique by Jonny Draper

.

.

Who was involved in the shoot and how did it go on the day?

.

Jonny: Obviously the venue was the stunning Styal Lodge – our first and only choice for this shoot. I’d spoken to Poppy (wedding and events manager) about various ideas, which parts of the lodge we would use, how we could dress it and she became one of the most important people on the shoot: a huge help during the set up the day before and literally happy to hand over her keys to allow us to start at the crack of dawn on shoot day.

.

One of our absolute favourite florists, Sian from Didsbury Flower Lounge was another key person involved. I had an idea about ‘bringing the outside in’ but I couldn’t quite get my head round exactly what I wanted (in fact, I didn’t necessarily know exactly what I wanted!) – cue a phone call to Sian to explain the idea, a chat about materials and props, a conversation about building sets (!) and a date in the diary to meet nice and early at the lodge the day before the shoot to bring the ideas to life. We decided on two sets, one which had a woodland, wintery, ethereal feel and one that would be slightly more contemporary, lit very differently in order to give it a striking look.

.

Another phonecall to Emma from Special Days Events (thanks Poppy at Styal Lodge for thinking of that!) to get hold of ivy, black drapes and various props and we were good to go…

.

Shoot day itself and we’d recruited a gorgeous model called Jen Brook, whose work I had admired on Facebook for quite a while. Jen is living proof of social media being a great tool. We have a number of mutual photographer and model friends on Facebook and she added me as a friend a few months ago. As soon as we decided we wanted to use a model for this shoot she was the first person I thought of. All of her previous work had so many different looks to it, that I knew she’d be able to fit into the overall look we were trying to create. She didn’t let us down and she’s a lovely person too – bonus!

.

And then to the amazing Gemma Hallowell and the equally amazing Paisley Gamble from Macleod Bradley in West Didsbury – as with Styal Lodge, these two ladies were nailed on from the minute we dreamed up this shoot. Gemma is so attentive, creative and imaginative when it comes to the looks that she creates. Paisley seems to have that knack to always be able to do something that little bit different, that little bit special. They’re both great fun and easy to work with – top girls!

.

We were also lucky enough to enjoy the company of the big boss from Macleod Bradley – Helen Bradley – for the shoot. It was great having Helen on board, not only because of all the support she’s given us since we opened the boutique, but she was also a very useful extra pair of hands when it came to tidying up later on!

.

All in all, a top team who we were so excited to have involved in the shoot. The images are exactly as Emma and I had imagined them and that is all down to the amazing team there over the course of the shoot.
