So that’s another fabulous Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition done and dusted!  The already beautiful Nostell Priory looked the prettiest I’ve seen it yet yesterday at our fifth event of the spring season. Big, big love to all our amazing exhibitors (a truly superb selection) and gorgeous brides and grooms who supported our event.  We salute you… and hope you left feeling inspired by the talent on show and super duper excited about your big day! Hooray!

If you’ve not popped in to see us at one of our beautiful events yet – or if you have and would like to do it all over again – there’s still plenty of time this season!  Pop one of these stunners in your diary

Its a quick turnaound at Brides Up North HQ today – no rest for the wicked (I must be pretty damn wicked!) – as we were up at the crack of dawn and are already on the East Coast Mainline down to the smoke, to catch up with the fun that’s already started at White Gallery London

Recognised as one of the leading international designer bridal trade shows, White Gallery London is set to present the finest in bridal design at its sold-out forthcoming fifth edition.  Press passes in hand, Ellie and I will be joining the trade at this hunting ground for the best in British and international bridal design, previewing the gowns and the gorgeous that will be landing in a bridal boutique near you next season.

It’s one of my very favourite events of the whole year, and I can’t wait to (do a bit of schmoozing and) see what my favourite bridal designers have lined up for us in 2015.  I’m hoping for structural extravagance, sexy silhouettes and even bolder use of colour in bridal wear.  Let’s wait and see…

Over 70 leading designers will preview their new bridal wear and accessories collections at the event including Alan Hannah, Amanda Wakeley Sposa, Anna Romysh Haute Couture, Annasul Y, Augusta Jones, Benjamin Adams London, Blue Bridalwear, Brides Desire by Wendy Sullivan, Cabotine Novia by Gema Nicolas, Caroline Atelier, Caroline Castigliano, Charlotte Balbier, Charlotte Mills, Christos Costarellos, Cocoe Voci, The Couture Veil, Cymbeline, Eliza Jane Howell, Emma Hunt, Emma Tindley, Encore, Franc Sarabia, Freya Rose, Gemy Maalouf Bridal, Hadas Cohen, Halo & Co, Harriet Wilde, HT Headwear, I Love Gorgeous, Ian Stuart, Ivory & Co Bridal, Ivory & Co Tiaras, Jack Sullivan Bridal, Jenny Packham, Jesus Peiro, Johanna Hehir, Karen Willis Holmes, KatyaKatya Shehurina, Lark Bridal, Linea Raffaelli, Lou Lou, Lusan Mandongus, Lyn Ashworth by Sarah Barrett, Maddy by Madeline Isaac-James, Madeline Isaac-James, Accessories by Madeline Isaac-James, Malis Henderson, Mia Mia, Miguel Suay, Miranda Templeton, Mooshki Boutique, Naomi Neoh, Nicki MacFarlane, Nicola Anne, Nicola Harvey Couture, Nilah & Company, Nordic Gems, Novia D’Art, Nymphi, Ozlem Suer, Parthenis, Patricia Avendano, Polly Edwards, Qiana Bridal, Rachel Simpson, Raimon Bundo, Sadoni, Sassi Holford, Sasso, Shelle Belle Couture, So Sassi, Stephanie Allin Couture, Stephanie James Couture, Stephen Yearick, Terry Fox, Timeless Couture,  Victorio & Lucchino, Watters Brides, White Ivy, YSA Makino, Yolan Cris and Zaeem Jamal.

Then we’ll come back to tell you all about it!

We’ve seats lined up at some of the iconic catwalk shows including Ian Stuart, Madeline Isaac-James and Suzanne Neville, plus drop in appointments with our pick of the bunch.  We’re also looking forward to catching up with our friends and supporters from bespoke bridal label House Of Mookshi – based in the North East – at this their debut show.  Specialising in custom designed wedding dresses and bridal gowns from vintage inspired through to gothic, those girls have always got something fabulous up their sleeve.

After all that, we’ll be ready for a drink (or three) and will be hitting the hard stuff with our industry colleagues at Kensington Roof Gardens for a cocktail party sponsored by Perfect Wedding Magazine and in association with the Retail Bridalwear Association.  I’ve a free pass for the evening as the hubby’s on babysitting duty back Up North, so make mine a Mojito please!

See you on the other side.  There’ll be lots of catching up to do…

Gorgeous Gowns! Supplier Showcase: The Bridal Gown

December 19th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Bianca

Bianca by So Sassi

.

This morning I am proud to introduce one of my fabulous Featured Suppliers, Julie of The Bridal Gown, Otley and stockist of some of my very favourite bridal lines – fancy a bit of So Sassi or Kate Sherford anyone?  Yes, me too!

.

Julie is hosting an event on the 26th January 2013 to launch the So Sassi label in Yorkshire. It will be held in the Otley All Saints Parish Church where the aisle will be flood lit and transformed into a glamorous catwalk. The whole of the So Sassi range will be available to see. If you would like to try any of these gowns, Julie will be taking appointments for Sunday 27th January 2013 and early the following week.  You can contact Julie on 01943 466680 or email julie@thebridalgown.net

.

In the meantime, let’s meet Julie and hear more about her gorgeous boutique.

.

Julie says:  My background is in fashion design, I worked as a fashion designer for 16 years, designing for many of the high street larger labels including Next and Principles and then moved into teaching textiles in further education for 10 years. I returned to my roots to use my artistic flair in design and manufacture with the opening of The Seamstress which specialised in making wedding gowns. The Seamstress opened in true romantic style on Valentines day 2008 and we re-launched and specialized in retailing couture wedding gowns with the opening of the The Bridal Gown on Valentines day 2010.  We do still offer a bespoke wedding gown manufacture service for those brides who can’t find what they want.

The designer gowns we stock include:

.

SO SASSI by Sassi Holford: this line mixes fashion focused details like pretty peplums skirts and high low hemlines – just perfect for modern brides who like their bridal wear traditional with a creative twist.  Every gown is handmade by a dedicated team of skilled cutters, seamstresses and hand beaders in Somerset, and has a level of corsetry that requires a very high standard of cut and fit. Most of the styles in the collection include an internal corset that delivers a couture fit whilst maintaining the flattering bodice shape throughout the wedding day.

.

MIKAELLA by Paloma Blanca reflects and amplifies the very essence of elegance: the clean lines and selected detailing of this collection promote the ideal that the subtle beauty and grace of the gowns should accentuate the radiance of a bride and not overpower. This range is designed and manufactured in Canada.

.

KATE SHERFORD gowns are designed and made in the UK. Kate Sherford Bridal Designs has an enviable thirty year tradition of producing the very best of classic, English wedding dresses. The Kate Sherford design direction is soft and romantic using dramatic layering and gathering of luxurious silk fabrics like duchess satin, georgette and organza. To flatter the female form the skirt styles range from sexy fishtails through full, fluid A-line to glamorous ball gown. Design details, including bows, tails and diamanté, provide the perfect finishing touch.

MADELINE ISAAC JAMES is for the bride who wants something different and a quality dress. Designer Natalie has named the company after her three children and has a long family history connected to the clothing industry. Most of the gowns are made in pure silk, which gives that stunning sheen and handle that only silk has. The gowns give a very glamorous look but with a simplicity that allows the bride to be the star.

.

PHIL COLLINS is our most affordable range.  These gowns are outstanding value, with excellent corsetry and structure. Phil Collins Bridal offers designer style without the designer price tag. With traditional beaded gowns along with tulle, organza, and lace to add diversity, all have a contemporary edge without compromising on quality or value for money. With two full collections a year Phil Collins Bridal is continually introducing new and exciting designs to the range.

We try to champion whereever possible British industry and this shows in the accessories we stock, these include:

.

Tiaras and headpieces by Halo and Urban Angel which are hand made in Wales and are stunning in their detail.  Miranda Templeton headbands which are British designed and made, and a little different from the normal.  Sasso feather boa’s and shrugs as well as birdcage veils:  think Garbo, think glamour and flamboyance, that’s Sasso.

.

Veils by: The Couture Veil Company, designed by Sassi Holford are made in Sassi’s workrooms in Taunton, the cut of these veils is simply amazing. These veils are available through Sassi Holford and Kate Sherford suppliers only.  Elizabeth Dickens Veils is a huge range of veils with many variations within each style of veil, all are made in Britain, and usually with a very quick delivery time.

Rachel Simpson Shoes

Rachel Simpson Shoes

.

We are delighted to have Rachel Simpson Shoes; they have a vintage feel but with a modern twist and are very comfortable. Rachel uses suede, leather and lace as well as the normal bridal satins for a quality shoe that is made in Spain using quality components.  We have a small number of styles in the Hassall range, heavily decorated stunning details to create the true Cinderella slipper.  Rainbow Couture silk shoes are straight from the catwalk in styles made in silk satin which can be dyed to your signature colour.

.

We are located at 12 Bondgate, Otley, LS21 3AB which is in the conservation area of Otley close to All Saints Parish Church.

.

Our price range is from £600 to £2000 with the majority being between £1000 and £1800, in addition if a bride is on a budget we always have a sale rail with many ex-samples with up to 50% off.

.

We work on an appointment basis. When a bride attends an appointment they will have the sole use of the boutique for that time. We usually set aside one and half hours for an appointment.  On arrival you will be asked a few questions: this is to help me guide you to the perfect gown.  You will be allowed to look through the dresses and ask questions about fabrics and designers. We allow the bride to select the dresses that they would like to try on and I may add a few if I think something else will work. The fitting rooms are upstairs and totally private and are mirrored to enable the bride and her guests to see all round the dress, and you will be served refreshments. The brides will be assisted in putting on the dress and given time to consider each dress to see if it works or not. We allow photo’s to be taken as we find these help the brides come to a decision, we aim to make this a enjoyable experience and we never use the hard sell. I will be available to give advice on any alterations or attachments that may be needed to the dress to make it individual.

.

.

Lucianne

Lucianne by So Sassi

.

My favourite gown at the moment is Lucianne by So Sassi, I love the lace, and the shoulder straps which are so flattering and lengthen the body. I love the attention to detail, the delicate band under the bust and the centre brooch adds the finishing touch. It gives a boho feel but you don’t have to have a Pippa Middleton body as it has a built in corset.

.

.

Carmen

Carmen by So Sassi

.

There are a few themes that are popular at the moment.  One is the big tulle gown with lace like Carmen by So Sassi, another is the slim lace fishtail gown with straps like Mikaella 1750 which has a stunning key hole back.

.

.

Mikaella 1750

.

The Bridal Gown offers sole use of the boutique while you are in it for your privacy and comfort. I serve all the brides myself and I do all the alterations for complete continuity of care giving brides confidence that if I say something can be changed it can. With my design background I love to make attachments, straps and those little extras that change the beautiful into the unique.  The designs we stock are wide ranging in style and feel and therefore are for the modern young bride as well as those who are looking for a more vintage style including those women who want something a little different from the norm without being outrageous.

Find Your Dream Wedding Dress… In A Click!

October 16th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

So. Cancel all plans and meetings for the rest of your afternoon.  Some favourite industry colleagues of mine have launched something rather special.

.

Find Your Dream Wedding Dress

.

.

The wedding dress hunt never got easier than this!

.

The team at Find Your Dream Wedding Dress say: this is a completely new concept, and the best idea ever. The minute he pops the question, and you have said yes, the search for your dream dress is underway.

.

Find Your Dream Wedding Dress brings together, in one beautiful, easy-to-navigate site, a world of wonderful dresses from the top designers and manufacturers – hundreds and hundreds of them – covering all design options and price points. It focuses on bridal gowns, and nothing other than bridal gowns – no flowers, no venues, no best-man speeches. Just gorgeous gowns.

.

It works so simply. Just pick out the features that really appeal to you. It could be a halter-neck, a cute fifties silhouette, a fabulous fairy-tale ball gown, or a slinky number with lots of vintage detailing. It could be glitter-loaded, or plain and simple. The choice is yours and you’ll see dozens of dream dresses that fit in with your ‘wish list’. Then you pop your favourites into your ‘dressing room’ and, if you want, you can go back for more choices by changing your criteria.

.

.

Find Your Dream Wedding Dress

.

.

Ready for a close up? Click on the dresses in your dressing room and you’ll get all the detail, from the fabric and colour options, size and price range, and personalisation opportunities to special design highlights – and that could include extras, like a sparkly belt or a lacy jacket. You’ll get different views of the gown and you’ll also get comments from the designer about what they like best about that particular style and why. What a great way to find out who’s who of the bridal gown designers!

.

But that’s not where the fun stops. You’ll be able to check, right there and then, the bridal shops that carry the collections you have picked. One click and an email will go to the shop you select, to say you are interested in a particular label. And you can make an appointment instantly, by email, to see what could be your own dream wedding dress.

.

.

Find Your Dream Wedding Dress

.

.

My friend and colleague Rachel Morgan, editor of Wedding Ideas Magazine loves the idea too, and says: Searching for your dream dress is the most exciting part of the wedding planning. This amazing new website brings together hundreds of gowns from all over the world, and in every price bracket. You can quickly see the designers and the details you like, whittle down your favourites and make an appointment to actually try on the dress – all with a click of a mouse.

.

At Find Your Dream Wedding Dress you will discover the latest collections from: Alexia Designs,
Alfred Sung, Amanda Wyatt, Augusta Jones, Beautiful, Benjamin Roberts, Blue by Enzoani, Callista Bride,
Charlotte Balbier, Chic by Hollywood Dreams, Daisi Daisi, Decades by The Vintage Wedding Dress Company, Decorum Bride, Enzoani, Heritage, Hollywood Dreams, Impression Bridal, Intuzuri, Jim Hjelm Blush, Justin Alexander, Joyce Young by Storm, Madeline Isaac-James, Maggie Sottero, Mark Lesley, MDS by Margaret Moreland, Modeca, Mori Lee, MS Moda, Phil Collins, Private Label by G, Ritva Westenius, Romantica, Ronald Joyce, Rosa Couture, Sincerity, Sonsie by Veromia, Sottero & Midgley, Tara Keely, Terry Fox Couture, Tia, Trudy Lee, Venus, Veromia, Watters and Wtoo.

A Beauty of a Boutique! Supplier Showcase – The Harrogate Wedding Lounge

July 10th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Yorkshire ladies.  Stop. Right. There.  Before you even think about ordering your wedding gown, pay my lovely friend Hayley at The Harrogate Wedding Lounge a visit.  This wedding blogger wants to move in to Hayley’s gorgeous boutique and sit on her flumpy sofas, flicking through planning guides and ogling the gorgeous wedding dresses forever more!  That ok with you Hayley?

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: The Harrogate Wedding Lounge

.

.

Anyway.  Let’s talk shop.

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: The Harrogate Wedding Lounge

.

.

When did The Harrogate Wedding Lounge open and what is your background?

.
I opened The Harrogate Wedding Lounge on 29th May 2009.

.
After taking voluntary redundancy from my full time job in Leeds I decided it was time to do something I loved. I had my own wedding planning business which was growing and developing nicely on a part time basis and I decided this was the route I wanted to take. The wedding industry is such a lovely industry to work in and bridal fashion and trends were always my favourite part. When an opportunity presented itself to move into existing premises currently used as a bridal shop it just seemed like fate had dealt me a hand. We completely overhauled the then existing shop in just 6 weeks. We replaced all of the designers and stock and created a beautiful, welcoming and homely shop brides can be proud to visit.

.

.

What lines of wedding gowns do you stock?

.
We are very proud to stock some of the industry’s leading names including Maggie Sottero, Ronald Joyce, Madeline Gardner and Justin Alexander Signature.  The designers and their gowns have all been handpicked by us for their quality, structure, fine fabrics, attention to detail and because they are just that little bit different.

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: The Harrogate Wedding Lounge

.

.

What lines of accessories do you stock?

.
We are well known for our accessories collection! Having gowns that are a bit different means we have to accessorise accordingly and we have great fun choosing our fabulous designs to complement our gowns. We stock everything from birdcage veils to Art Deco and vintage inspired head bands and tiaras. We have lace veils, short funky veils and cathedral veils from industry leaders like Richard Designs. We also have an amazing collection of bridal jewellery from the fabulous award winning Chez Bec (a wedding blog Featured Supplier), stunning vintage inspired headwear and jewellery by Madeline Isaac James and plenty of glam shoes from the likes of Rainbow Couture, Rainbow Club and Shades. We also have lots of quirky extras like “Weddington” Boots, bespoke garters exclusive to The Harrogate Wedding Lounge, parasols, wraps and jackets in lots of fabrics and styles. One of my favourites is the Milan wrap pictured below its so glamorous!

.

.
Where are you located?

.
We are located on the main A59 Between Harrogate and Knaresborough only a 30 minute drive from either Leeds or York and a big bonus is we have free parking – either at the side of our shop or in the small residential cul-de-sac next to our shop.

.

.

Annabelle

.

.
Can you give Brides Up North an idea on price?

.
Our gowns start from around £800 for some of our lightweight more destination style gowns and our top end is currently £2,200.  We do add to our collections all the time but this is the usual price range you would expect to pay for one of our gowns. Accessories start from £70 for veils, £90 for headbands/tiaras and shoes by Rainbow Couture start from £115.

.

Geneva

.

.
Do Brides Up North need an appointment?

.
We work on an appointment basis to make sure each and every bride gets the undivided attention she deserves. You won’t have to share a changing area, nor sit with other people’s relatives at this special time. At The Harrogate Wedding Lounge we pride ourselves on our personal service and we only ever see one bride at a time. We also give you a generous appointment time of 90 minutes so you can take your time and really enjoy this wonderful experience.

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: The Harrogate Wedding Lounge

Hadley

.

.
What can Brides Up North expect when they come in for an appointment?

.
At your first appointment we will sit down and have an initial discussion. We get to know the facts: when is the wedding, where, are you having any bridesmaids, what’s your dress budget etc, then we discuss what you have tried on to date, what you like and don’t like and we talk you through our collections. You are then left to browse the rails for a few minutes while we prepare refreshments for you and your party. We have pink fizz, bucks fizz, orange juice, tea & coffee with a selection of flavoured syrups and lovely little treats to eat. We then review your selection with you, possibly throw in a couple of wild cards of our choice and get on with creating a stunning wedding day look. If at the end of your appointment you require some thinking time there is no pressure, we simply make a note of your favourite gowns and accessories on one of our beautiful keep sake cards and send you away to sleep on it.

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: The Harrogate Wedding Lounge

Lidia

.

.
What is your current favourite gown that you stock and why?

.
Oh no! I hate that question because we handpick all of our gowns at selected shows throughout the year and it is so difficult to select one as my favourite, I love them all in their own way. My very favourites include the Maggie Sottero Geneva because it has so much amazing detail you just can’t stop looking at it! Maggie Sottero Annabelle is a beautiful fitting dress that is very elegant but also a bit sexy. The Ronald Joyce Lidia has the ability to make any bride feel like a true princess.

.

.
Is there a particular style of dress that is popular with your brides at the moment?

.
A key trend at the moment is backless gowns, they are really popular this season. Glamorous gowns like the Ronald Joyce Sable are a real hit and the Maggie Sottero Bernadette with its beautiful key hole back and lace shoulders is a gorgeous twist on a classic shape. For a more lightweight style or a beach wedding the Caprice is unbeatable! It’s cool, sassy, understated and elegant all in one.

Nora

.

.
How does The Harrogate Wedding Lounge provide a superior experience to other wedding dress boutiques?

.
We are a down to earth friendly team of females who absolutely love what we do! This isn’t just a job for us – we genuinely are so excited about helping you plan your dream day whether that be just your gown, our help with finding other fabulous suppliers or helping with styling ideas too. We are much more than just a dress shop. We offer each bride our personal one to one service too with enhances this special experience.

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: The Harrogate Wedding Lounge

.

.
Do you stock Bridesmaid Dresses?

.
We hold around 20 great selling styles from Ronald Joyce in a fantastic selection of colours and fabrics. We don’t stipulate that you have to buy your bridal gown from us either so if you already have your dress you are still welcome to come and view our range of gowns for your best girls. We normally recommend a dedicated bridesmaid appointment and not doing it at the end of your bridal appointment. It adds a sense of occasion for your bridesmaids and means we get to concentrate on you all individually too.
.

.

We hear you offer planning consultations – can you tell Brides Up North a bit about that?

.
We offer our popular Wedding Lounge “Sessions” – these are a perfect way to gather your nearest and dearest who you would like to help with the planning process. Mums and bridesmaids often chip in to give this as a gift to the bride to get her started on the planning. It really is an informal evening full of ideas and advice to set you on your way. The evening is a 3 hour workshop with drinks and treats and offers you great tools along the way. Including guest trackers, budget planners, helpful websites, wedding blogs, planning advice and a few other surprises too! Our planning sessions represent great value at £179 and they will get you off to a fantastic start with the planning aiming to make things clearer in your head.

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: The Harrogate Wedding Lounge

.

.
What did you wear on your wedding day?  What would you choose to wear now?

.
My dress was very different, it was actually green! Is was by a designer called Catherine Jane and was a two tone shot silk. It shone lots of colours from peacock blue to rich yellow tones, I loved it. I would probably wear something very different now I love the Maggie Sottero Nora dress, it has a low waist so helps to pull in your tummy and it has a real fairytale feel without being too cumbersome to move in. It is very sparkly too .

.

How can Brides Up North get in touch with you/ find out more?

.
