our love story: dawn & oliver

January 23rd, 2018 | Julia Braime

A Manchester Engagement (c) ZT Photography (25)

We’re brightening up your Tuesday with this cool, urban engagement shoot (and accompanying love story) captured in Manchester city centre.

Carefree couple Oliver and Dawn, wanted a fun and playful shoot which reflected their love for one another, and we have to say, we think their photographers absolutely smashed the brief with vibrant street art backdrops, a mix of relaxed and intimate poses and a whole lot of hair swishing! We love!

dawn says: We got engaged on New Year’s Eve 2017. It was magical surprise overlooking the beautiful city of Edinburgh. It was like all of Scotland was there to help us celebrate during the Hogmanay that evening.

We have set the date of our wedding for August this year, and have picked the stunning Hengrave Hall in Suffolk, as our venue.

Oli and I first met at Pennyhill Park Hotel in Surrey, where Oliver worked as a chef and I worked as a waitress during the holiday season when I was back from university.

For our first date Oli took me bowling and was a complete gentleman (a trait I love about him). We had a few drinks and reminisced about the old days.

I realised Oli was the one for me from our very first date. He was caring, funny and had such a lovely personality that I knew I wanted him by my side for the rest of my life.

What I love most about Oli is his honesty and smile! His most annoying habit on the other hand is falling asleep in the middle of the day on the sofa.

oliver says: I knew that Dawn was the one after she sent me on a treasure hunt all around her flat leading me to a door key so that I could visit her as much as I possibly could – I will never forget that day.

Dawn’s sense of humour and stunning looks are what I love most about her. Her worst habit however is leaving her empty contact lenses cases everywhere in the house.

Beautiful Love. A Real Engagement In Manchester – Martyna & Daniel

February 5th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Clare Robinson Photography

I always get excited to receive our engagement submissions for the blog because – and call me a nosy parker – I love reading every couple’s individual love story.  Without exception, every one I receive is full of happiness and hope for the future.

Martyna and Daniel’s engagement announcement is no exception, so I hope you’ll join me in wishing them congratulations, luck and love.  I’ll look forward to sharing their Real Wedding here on Brides Up North not too long from now.

Martyna says:  Daniel asked me to marry him on my birthday – Christmas morning. The best birthday and Christmas present ever!

Clare Robinson Photography

About 6 years ago we met at work and from then everything started!  On our first date we went out to Pizza Express, our favourite restaurant in Manchester. I remember what we ordered and where we sat on that day.

From the beginning I knew this was it! I saw Dan going out and spending time with his younger brothers and from that time I was sure about him.

I love about Dan that he cares and respects me. Each time I need him, he is there. I love spending time with him, even when we don’t talk; it feels good when he is next to me.

Autumn Leaves: A Real Engagement In Manchester – Faye & Anthony

November 13th, 2012 | Julia Braime

Time for another love story.

Glee! Could a set of woodland engagement photographs capture the season any more joyfully?  I love these images sent to me by Brides Up North reader Faye and David Stubbs Photography.  We’ll let Faye and Anthony get on with their dancing in the leaves shortly, but first let’s hear Faye tell us more…

Faye says:  Anthony proposed in May 2012 when we visited the island of La Palma in the Canaries. After nearly four years I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping he would soon, but I was surprised! Anthony seized a beautiful moment so didn’t propose with a ring, but true to tradition Anthony proposed on one knee in front of the amazing sunset we were watching over the sea. We chose a ring together when we returned home from our holiday, just two days after my birthday, a birthday to remember!

At first we explored the possibility of getting married abroad, mainly because we wanted amazing photos to be able to look back on and we didn’t want traditional English weather to ruin them. However, after much deliberation we decided it just wasn’t us to get married abroad we wanted to stick with our Northern roots. I did some research and found a photographer (David Stubbs Photography) that I am confident will get amazing photos whatever the weather. We will be getting married at St John’s church in our home town of Failsworth and our reception will be held at Brookdale Golf Club in Woodhouses, Failsworth.

We first met six years ago when we were 18, through mutual friends. We dated for a few months but being young we went our separate ways. After 18 months apart we decided we didn’t want to be apart any longer and have been together for four years now.  True to the saying, you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. When I still felt the same way about Anthony 18 months after separating I knew there was something special. When our paths met again I knew he was the one.

Reunited, our student and apprentice wages took us on a lovely burger and a beer for a fiver first date at Lloyds bar in Manchester! We weren’t complaining though, we continued the same date routine both in Liverpool where I was at University and Manchester for the next seven months!

For both of us we love each others sense of humour, they’re both stupid! For me, I love that I can be completely myself and silly with Anthony and he’ll always laugh!

Our biggest wish for married life definitely that nothing changes. I love Anthony just the way he is and would not want marriage to change anything about our relationship.

We chose to have an engagement shoot because we’ll really enjoy having photos to look back on; they trigger the exact memory from the moment in time they’ve captured.  David was fantastic! We were both nervous for the engagement shoot but both really enjoyed it. We’ll be more at ease for the photos on our wedding day now and can spend all our time worrying about saying our vows!

I love Brides Up North because many blogs aren’t specific to any area in particular. Bride’s Up North is perfect for us that are always unwilling to stray too far from our roots!  We’ll definitely be back to share the photos from our big day with Brides Up North!
