We’re starting the week with a show-stopper of a real wedding – seriously, this is a beauty!
Though Victoria and Jay chose to keep the styling simple and had no set theme, the venue and decorative elements are pure luxury and class.
We adore the big blousy floral arrangements and bouquets, not to mention Victoria’s dress – wow! The back detail in particular has us all the heart eyes!
The grandest of reception rooms, a choice menu for the wedding breakfast and Molton Brown goodies as favours cements this as a big day we would have loved to have been on the guest list for.

victoria says: We got engaged on Easter Sunday. I had been away in the USA for two weeks with my family, and on the night I got back Jake wanted to take me out. We went for a meal and caught up on the past few weeks. Then, after the meal Jake produced an Easter egg and written on the egg were the words “will you marry me?” and he produced the ring. There were plenty of tears! Although we had been together since I was 16, it was still a surprise.
We set the date for 19th August 2017 as we wanted a summer wedding.
Our chosen venue was Thornton Manor, Cheshire. Jake had come across the venue through work about five years ago and we always said that when we got married we would take a look. It was always going to be the one, it is beautiful!
We didn’t have a set theme but we knew we wanted to keep things simple and elegant, so we chose ivory flowers, neutral colours and lots of candles. This also kept things light for summer and was in keeping with the classy feel of the venue.
When it came to my dress, I knew I wanted a slim fit design that was a little different. In the end I had to pick between my dress and classic strapless dress but chose mine because it was that bit different. I got it from The Confetti Box in Manchester. I had so many compliments on the day of people saying how unique it was.
I hired The Dollz for my bridal hair and makeup, who did a great job and my makeup lasted well into the night.
Jake’s and the groomsmen’s suit were from Whitfield & Ward, in Wilmslow.
We found the perfect bridesmaid dresses in One Fine Day Bridal, in Preston.

Our online ‘Suppliers We Love’ directory is a go-to for our readers looking for professional and trusted local businesses that can help to bring their wedding visions to life. From photographers and florists, to entertainment and accessories, there is a category for every requirement.
And this afternoon, we’re delighted to be introducing another gorgeous boutique to our ‘bride’ category, a useful source for those of you on the dream dress hunt. Our new Sponsor, One Fine Day Bridal, based in Hoole, Lancashire, was set up by owner Claire Bland after feeling underwhelmed by her own wedding dress shopping experience.
Running the boutique with her mum Pam, the duo have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere and have filled the shop’s rails with beautiful and unique dress designs to offer brides and memorable and exclusive experience.
Here to tell us more is the lady herself. Take it away Claire….
Where is One Fine Day Bridal located and can you describe the style and feel of the boutique?
claire says: One Fine Day Bridal is in a small village called Little Hoole, Lancashire – we are located just of the A59 so you can’t miss us! Our boutique has a warm, friendly, homely feel. We want all of our brides to feel relaxed and at ease when finding their dream dress.
Can you tell us about the designers that you stock at the boutique and what type of brides they would appeal to?
We stock the Spanish designer Rosa Clara & Rosa Clara Soft, perfect for the bride who loves something a little different, using luxurious fabrics, such as silk Mikado, ottoman and brocade. Also in our boutique is the fabulous Watters Bride & Bridesmaid collections, both absolutely dreamy ideal for the modern bride. Nicole Spose is our last collection, gorgeous crepe fabrics and masters of ‘slinky’ gowns, perfect for the bride looking for a figure-hugging dress.
How do you select the designers that you stock?
We like our designers to be unique, so we don’t stock designers that you will find in every other boutique. We make sure the gowns are well made and are of a great quality, but we also like to ensure that nobody else with our area stocks that particular designer. We like to be individual and make sure are brides are choosing something exclusive.
Can you tell us about the accessories that you stock at the boutique?
We stock Linzi Jay and Ariana Tiara for our head pieces, jewellery and veils, we also use Elizabeth Dickens for our veils ensuring we have a wide variety of choice to suit all dresses.
How do you help brides to find their dream dress and to complete their look with accessories?
We like to make sure our brides try one of every style, even if they have an idea in their head, this some of the time doesn’t always look how they expected. Once they think they have found ‘the one’ we like to add in veils and accessories so the look is complete. Even once they have found their dress with us, we encourage them to come back for a styling appointment after their hair and makeup trial so the full vision can be seen.
What are your top tips for brides when dress shopping?
Be open minded and try something you never imaged you would go for – you could be surprised.
Even though it is nice to bring family and friends to enjoy the experience with, don’t be swayed by too many opinions – it’s the bride’s day! It is good to get a feel for style but when you think you’ve found the one, stop trying and stop looking, it is very easy to become overwhelmed and it can get very confusing.
What sets One Fine Day Bridal apart from other boutiques and what can brides expect from an appointment at the boutique?
We are a mother and daughter team here at the boutique. We decided to do this because of my own experience which I didn’t enjoy so we try to make sure our brides don’t feel deflated or under whelmed by their experience, like I did. We offer a relaxed and luxurious experience, we let the bride lead the appointment and offer our advice when we feel appropriate. We always offer to dress our bride the morning of the wedding, we know how stressful it can be so we like to ease the pressure wherever possible.
What trends are you seeing coming through in bridalwear and accessories?
A flutter sleeve or capelet – we think these could be a huge trend for 2018, along with a statement bow which is a theme that runs through our Rosa Clara gowns.
What is the size and price range of the dresses that you stock?
We stock sample sizes from 6 to 16, and price range between £950 and £3,500.
What is the feedback like from brides who found their dress and One Fine Day?
Our brides always comment on what a lovely personal service we offer from beginning to end. We get a lot of comments about how welcoming and professional we are and how beautiful our boutique is. Our brides love that we are not pushy, in some cases we encourage the bride to go away and have a think, then come back.

Last month our lovely Sponsor One Fine Day Bridal, celebrated its first birthday with a special relaunch event inviting brides-to-be to view gorgeous new collections to the boutique whilst raising a glass of fizz (sounds like our kind of event!)
Better still, owner Lindsey Johnson, called upon some of the North West’s top wedding suppliers to help advise and inspire brides-to-be on everything from their hair and makeup to lingerie and accessories, making it both an entertaining and informative evening.
So for those of us that couldn’t make the glittering event, this afternoon we’re catching up with Lindsey to find out how it all went, what brides-to-be can expect from the boutique’s new collections and how they go about making an appointment to view the gorgeous gowns for themselves. Take it away Lindsey…

After months of planning, how did your relaunch event go?
lindsey says: The event was a fabulous celebration our first birthday here at One Fine Day Bridal and provided the perfect opportunity to showcase the new designer bridal collections we are introducing for 2016. It was also a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with choice local wedding experts as I really enjoy getting creative.
The event was really successful, we kept the numbers intimate as I wanted to offer our brides a personal and relaxed evening, all guests arrived on time (some surprisingly early) and our first gown orders have been successfully placed.
What did the event involve?
We opened the evening with a glass of prosecco and nibbles while guests and their families were introduced to their table. Daniella Gallagher entertained us with her beautiful vintage jazz voice while we prepared the catwalk, which weaved between the tables so guests were able to see the beautiful dress details close up. Following the catwalk show, I took the opportunity to join each bride at her table and chat about plans while Dani continued to sing for us into the late evening.

Today we are thrilled to be wishing Brides Up North Sponsor and beautiful Lancashire boutique, one fine day bridal, a very happy birthday as it celebrates its first year in business! (*fires party poppers into the air whilst wearing party hat*)
After starting out stocking pre-loved wedding dresses to give beautiful gowns a life beyond their first wear, owner Lindsey Johnson, is now preparing to move onto a new chapter at One Fine Day Bridal by replacing pre-owned gowns with gorgeous new creations by talented designers Rosa Clara Two and Louise Bentley.
Keen to share her exciting news with others and to mark the boutique’s milestone anniversary, Lindsey has planned a very special relaunch evening event on Thursday 19th November 2015, featuring stunning catwalk shows and fabulous wedding industry suppliers – and you could be there!
Limited to just 60 places, tickets are priced at £10 each and can be booked directly by contacting Lindsey on 01772 816512, or alternatively online, with a small fee, via Eventbrite by clicking here.
Looking back on the past 12 months, we asked Lindsey how her business has grown, what’s next for the boutique and how (pretty please) do we get our hands on tickets for this fabulous sounding event…
Congratulations on your first year (and happy birthday), how have the past 12 months been?
lindsey says: Thank you, it has been a thrilling, but challenging 12 months and I can honestly say I have loved every minute. I chose to build my business slowly giving me the chance to get to know my brides well and allowing me time to meet like-minded and talented local wedding suppliers. It is extremely important to me that I provide the best service possible, as purchasing a wedding dress is one of the most memorable occasions in a girl’s life. It’s an absolute honour to be part of it.
We originally opened with high-quality pre-owned dresses for brides and bridesmaids. Over the past 12 months I have listened to our brides and introduced new collections, starting with bridesmaids, accessories and veils. Now we have exclusive, new made-to-order bridal gowns.
You are having a relaunch event to celebrate your first birthday, tell us about it.
In my first year I had the pleasure of helping brides sell-on their gowns to future brides with a stock of pre-owned dresses, offering an alternative to sites such as eBay. Although I found this rewarding it has also been extremely frustrating as too often a bride fell in love with her dress and the size available was not correct.
I made the decision this summer to search for new designers to stock at One Fine Day and chose Rosa Clara Two and Louise Bentley at Harrogate’s buyer event in September. My first birthday is the opportunity to showcase my new dresses and I have chosen an intimate location (Whittles Farm Restaurant in Tarleton) close to my boutique to hold an evening of entertainment. This will include a catwalk, live music and inspiration from selected local wedding experts such as stylist, photographer, florist and make-up professional. I can’t wait!
What do you love about the designers you have chosen to stock, what type of brides do their dresses appeal to?
Rosa Clara Two is a magical collection of romantic but glamorous dresses. They use beautiful fabrics combining lace, embroidery and beadwork in a delicate way. I have been given the honour of being the only boutique in Lancashire and Merseyside to stock their collection and currently have 15 dresses on order which I will grow over the next year.
Louise Bentley is the exciting new label from the designers behind the successful LouLou collection. They are passionately committed to quality and design and use beautiful silks and corded lace. Many of my brides are inspired by vintage designs and these dresses offer that with a contemporary edge.
Both collections are available from sizes 6 to 30 and our price range is £1,200 to £2,200. I handpicked shapes to flatter various body shapes and all dresses are made-to-order.
The relaunch catwalk show will also include Huit Lingerie and bridesmaid dresses from Lela Rose and Dessy. Can you tell us a bit about these collections and what they offer?
I am extremely fortunate to have a spacious boutique and love to offer brides and their bridal party solutions to dressing and feeling fabulous. My experience has taught me that a good foundation is important and I offer a modest, carefully selected shape wear range from Wacoal and feminine delicate lace bridal lingerie from Huit.
One Fine Day Bridal is a stockist for all Dessy labels which enables me to find the perfect dress within a bride’s budget and offer a wide choice of styles, fabrics and colours. These include Social, Alfred Sung, Dessy, After Six, Lela Rose and new for spring, Jenny Yoo. I have selected my favourite styles to complement our bridal collection and to give our guests an exciting taster!
Places at the event are limited to 60, how do brides-to-be go about getting tickets?
The event will be held between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on Thursday 19th November at Whittles Farm Restaurant, The Courtyard, Tarleton, and will include prosecco and nibbles on arrival.
Tickets are priced at £10 each and can be booked directly by contacting me on 01772 816512, or alternatively online, with a small fee, via Eventbrite by clicking here.
What have you enjoyed most about your first year at One Fine Day Bridal?
My career to date is as a ladies fashion buyer and I have previously worked for large companies. I love meeting each bride personally and hearing about the finer details of her big day. I have a passion for styling and the chance to offer advice in a relaxed way is rewarding. It is this interaction with brides and their families which has shaped my business so far and I welcome feedback. The proud feeling of seeing your bride dressed on her big day and receiving a small thank-you is extremely satisfying!
What has been your biggest achievement or highlight during the first year?
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting amazing, very well respected designers in bridal fashion and the reception I have received has made me very proud. It has also given me the confidence to realise that I have much to offer brides-to-be in terms of dressing to suit their body and personality, plus a welcoming nature to provide high-quality, personal service. But seeing the smile on the face of my first bride when she found her dress has to be my absolute highlight!
What do you have planned for the year ahead for One Fine Day bridal?
Following my relaunch on 19th November I will be planning designer days in 2016 and already have plans for some exciting styled shoots. I am also considering my third bridal label and hope this will be revealed soon!
Oh and, I have teamed up with local businesses to put together a special bridesmaid experience – details will be revealed in February!
What can brides expect from an appointment at One Fine Day Bridal?
All appointments are with me personally and I am able to dedicate time especially to my bride and her family and friends. I am fortunate to have a spacious, welcoming showroom with a large changing room. One Fine Day feels very exclusive and intimate, creating a memorable experience. (Earlier this year one of my brides actually booked an appointment to practise her first dance routine in her dress!)
We exclusively stock Rosa Clara Two which means we are the only boutique in Lancashire and Merseyside to house such designs, offering our local brides individuality.
I believe assisting a bride to make one of the most memorable purchases of her life is an honour.
Do you believe brides do have that ‘this is the one’ moment when searching for their dream dress and if so what is your top tip to help them to find it?
I believe the experience is different for every bride. Some brides are led by the heart, others can be more cautions as it is a huge decision. Some brides try on a gown and immediately fill with emotion; with no doubt in their mind they have found ‘the one’.
Others, like me, try on a dress and feel fabulous but their love for the design comes later. That ‘moment’ can come when they compare other dresses to it, or wake up one day thinking ‘I love it, I wish I had ordered it’.
I definitely recommend keeping an open mind, listen to the advice of family and myself. If a bride comes to an appointment with her mum or best friend I like them to pick a design too. Most brides are pleasantly surprised!

This afternoon we are proud to welcome Brides Up North Sponsor Lindsey of Lancashire based bridal boutique, one fine day bridal to our pretty pages. One Fine Day Bridal is unique in that it specialises in pre-loved, worn once wedding gowns and sell only face-to-face to offer the full bridal service.
You know that wayyyy out of budget designer gown you’ve had your eye on? It’s yours.
When did One Fine Day Bridal open and what is your background?
I am a fashion buyer, wife, mama and thrilled to say owner of One Fine Day Bridal which opened its doors on 20th November 2014.
I have worked in the fashion business since I graduated with a degree in Fashion and Brand Promotion in 2001.
I have been fortunate in my career to work directly with celebrities who I admire. I love the class and quality of Amanda Wakeley designs and was taught about dressing to your body shape by Trinny & Susannah. The most rewarding time was spent working on occasion and bridal wear. I love the design, the fabrics and the finished garment – preparing for a special event and how amazing the right style can look on a woman.
Following the birth of my son last year I made the decision to run my own bridal shop. The time felt right and I understood how radically my lifestyle was changing.
Quality designer wedding gowns are timeless, and I love that one bride’s treasured dress may also bring such happiness to another. Once upon a time women who bought pre-owned may have felt the need to keep it secret, but this has changed. At One Fine Day Bridal we take pride in offering a personal service in beautiful surroundings and ensure our brides feel special, whether buying or selling
Which wedding gown labels do you stock?
Due to the nature of my business I am lucky to stock a wide range of designers and styles. I currently hold designs from top designers in the UK market such as Justin Alexander, Ian Stuart, Alan Hannah, Ronald Joyce, Augusta Jones, Maggie Sottero, Pronovias Bridal, Sassi Holford, Charlotte Balbier, Sophia Tolli, La Sposa and Enzoani and designers who are unique in style or up and coming such as Cymbeline, Lizzie Agnew, Sanyukta Shersetha, Kayta Kayta, Jesus Peiro, Eliza Jane Howell and Minna.
What bridal accessories designers do you stock?
I work locally with a handmade accessories designer to offer a personal consultation to all my brides; I take pride in quality service. One Fine Day also currently stock one-off accessories by Enzoani, Sasso Brides, Rachel Simpson, Halo & Co and Amanda Wyatt amongst others.
Where are you located?
In Lancashire. Tarleton, a beautiful rural village which is easily accessible from Manchester and Liverpool. We are situated on a lovely courtyard with restaurants and coffee shops nearby and are on the first floor, so nice and private.
Can you give Brides Up North an idea on price?
Our dresses range from destination styles at £250 to more exclusive designs at £1800. Accessories and shoes begin at £19 for lace gloves to £120 for beautiful head pieces.
Do Brides Up North need an appointment?
I do recommend an appointment as I like to lock the door and give my brides and their family full attention. I would begin by chatting to you as I love to hear all the details of your big day, from the engagement to any dress designs already tried and styles you love.
Dresses can be tried on as usual however I do request that heavy make-up and fake tan is not worn for fittings.
We offer the full bridal service and have an experienced seamstress who will fit your gown to you perfectly.
What is your current favourite gown that you stock and why?
My personal taste is very simple by design. I adore a Jesus Peiro gown which arrived this week in pale ivory. The fabric is matt satin and it is slim fitting with a gentle train. The belt has exquisite beadwork and I love a bridal gown with pockets!
Is there a particular style of dress that is popular with your brides at the moment?
I have found Justin Alexander to be a very popular designer and many brides are asking for mermaid styles in lace. I think gowns are becoming much softer and romantic with beautiful details in beading and fine lace and I love to see designs with a hint of colour – blush or ice grey.
The bridesmaid colour I have been asked for most is soft aqua.
Do you stock bridesmaid dresses?
I am expanding the business in summer to stock a range of new bridesmaid dresses; the designer is yet to be selected when I visit the London Bridal exhibition at the end of March. I also have lovely open space in my shop and am lucky to have 2 lovely rooms. One will become home to One Fine Night Lingerie as I introduce a beautiful new lingerie range in August this year.
Who would be a One Fine Day bride?
A One Fine Day bride is aware of her budget and is searching for her dream dress at an affordable price. She is aware of style and quality and she is not prepared to compromise on personal service or a pleasurable buying experience.
What did you wear on your wedding day?
I married in 2007 in a stunning silk Cymbeline gown, it was a very simple design in a warm ivory with one-shoulder, no embellishment but the skirt was a two piece with a gorgeous tulle underskirt shown through a split – I love it! It sits in my shop as a lucky omen. I wore a pearl necklet on my forehead woven into my hair which I later dropped around my neck.
Today I would chose a tea length gown with a full skirt and a pair of killer heels in a strong colour!
