Today’s Wednesday Wedding Inspiration board by our regular guest blogger Katy of What Katy Did Next combines two of life’s most beautiful – ballet and the beach – to drop dead gorgeous effect.  Don’t know about you, but I’m hoping my dancing shoes will take me to places as pretty as this come Summer!

.

Katy says:  This week dancer Lauren asked me to create her a wedding inspiration board with a beautiful theme. The bride and her groom are having a beach wedding with colours to reflect Lauren’s passion for ballet. The board was to contain colours of blush and coral, and to contain hints of the beach theme without using shells and ‘cheesy’ beach paraphernalia.

,
Lauren loves florals, but was unsure how to introduce them into a beach wedding. I love the idea of placing various flowers in pretty glasses or small vases and dotting them around on the tables. The floral and driftwood wreathes (bottom left) combined with coral are beautiful arranged around large storm lanterns and are a sophisticated way of creating a beachy look with florals. I also love the really natural look of the floral wreathes in the bridesmaids’ hair!

,
For the bride I chose a beautiful gown with sparkling sequins and a floaty tulle skirt (perfect for dancing – or breezy wedding shots)! Instead of a veil, a loose chignon updo or a structured fishtail braid would look stunning. I added a touch of metallic with rose gold in the accessories. The flat sandals have a touch of glam about them and are a great alternative to manoeuvring heels on the beach.

.
My favourite part? The driftwood seating chart! A simple but effective idea that can easily be DIY’d by you and your groom or maids!

.

.

Remember: the plan is to share a new inspiration board in this time slot every other week, either compiled by myself, regular guest blogger Katy or YOU: get in touch with your own ideas and inspiration boards! We’ll be discussing our inspirations behind the images too so it’s simply going to be a whole load of lovely.

.

If you are a little less arty but in need of inspiration and still want to play along, we will also be taking requests for colour schemes and themes and making bespoke boards for my readers. Please contact me to suggest a theme or colour scheme.

Wednesday Wedding Inspiration: Marvellously Muted

March 6th, 2013 | Brides Up North: UK Wedding Blog

.

Marvellously Muted Wedding Inspiration

.

1. Aigrette Clutch 2. Table Decor 3. Lace Gown Image 4. Fur Shrug 5. Button Holes 6. Bouquet 7. Semi Precious Bracelet 8. Blush Bow Heels 9. Floral Wedding Cake 10. Pine Code Place Cards 11. Bridesmaids Gowns

.

I might be thinking ahead to the balmy days hour of British Summertime that we have to look forward to, but I know that you soon-to-be-wed ladies will be planning ahead.  This afternoon our regular guest blogger Katy of What Katy Did Next helps bride Sarah, who was looking for some marvellously muted wedding inspiration for her Winter 2013 – 2014 celebration.

.

Katy says:  You might think – pinecones and fur wraps on the brink of Spring? But this week’s inspiration was was requested by a bride wanting some help with her vintage theme for a Winter wedding with sage green and blush pink. The colour palette is so gorgeous I’ve managed to keep elements of the board useable all year round, as well as help out bride Sarah with wintery touches.

.
Due to the soft colours Sarah has chosen, I have used light and airy vintage styles with the lace gown, floaty feathers and delicate sparkles – this isn’t to say that you couldn’t go all out twenties vintage with floaty chiffon flapper style bridesmaids, smoky eyes and pin curled hair!

.
The bridesmaids, dresses in this board are from Monsoon. The silk chiffon ‘Diana’ dress is available in two lengths and if your maids would rather not go for a strapless design why not find a dressmaker who can add flattering straps or beaded cap sleeves? Have your bridesmaids carry a decorative clutch down the aisle in place of a bouquet – it’s practical, pretty and makes a lovely gift for your girls.

.
Winter is already a dark enough season so why not use metallics and light colours in your decor to reflect what light there is? The wonderful table setting features golden vases and candles which will create a warm cosy feeling for you and your guests. As a cheaper alternative to flowers you could use pinecones and leafy sage foliage in your centrepieces as well as the cute place card holder idea. Or with it being a wintery affair, why not use baubles in blush pink and sage colours, placed in glass bowls/vases? If pinecones aren’t your thing – delicate tissue paper crackers in your colour scheme can double as a place card and favour box.

.
I hope you fall for this board and it’s colour palette like I did – the floral imagery is absolutely gorgeous! Keep your requests coming in to Julia and me – I’d love to help you out!

.

.

Real Wedding Recap 2012: The Farmer Wants A Wife! A Real Wedding In Cumbria – Lisa & Gavin

December 27th, 2012 | Brides Up North: UK Wedding Blog

.

Joe Mather Photography

.

.

Over the festive period I’ll be recapping some of my very favourite Real Weddings from the last 12 months on the wedding blog. It’s been a tough choice! In true Brides Up North style, each wedding featured on these pages is unique, beautiful and gorgeously personal. It’s been an exceptionally fabulous year! Enjoy…

.

This afternoon, I bring you the beautiful Real Wedding of Brides Up North reader Lisa and her new husband Gavin.  Lisa and Gavin’s Cumbrian countryside celebration was full of all my favourite things – cool cars, beautiful blooms, individuality, steak pies (served at the table), paper pom poms, pink roses, huge smiles and buckets of confetti.  Just one thing was missing – my invitation!

.

Enjoy!  With images by Joe Mather.

Lisa says:  We got engaged on the last night of our holiday in Cyprus last October, it was typical laid back Gavin style, we were just chilling in our hotel room, I thought he was joking! We celebrated with a glass of shandy… all we had in the room was a can of lager and some lemonade!

.

We were married on Saturday 25th August 2012 at St Johns Church, Levens, near Kendal, Cumbria, with reception a mile up the road at Heaves Farm, Levens – my parent’s farm where I grew up.

.

.

Joe Mather Photography

.

.

Since I was little me and my Dad joked about having my wedding reception in the big stone barn at the top of the farmyard, so when we got engaged it was the obvious choice, we wanted something different, unique and personal for our wedding, and the barn was all those things. It was a lot of work but it looked magical and everyone absolutely loved it. Unfortunately it did have baby calves in it until three weeks before the day which was a bit of a worry…

.

We stuck to a vintage rose, village fete type theme, with old fashioned cut glass cake stands filled with flowers for the centre pieces, lots of bunting and vintage inspired stationary designed by my brother with a dusky pink and pale green colour scheme.

.

.

I wore a Lou Lou Bridal tea length dress from Kokoa Bride in Penrith. I’d always wanted a short wedding dress and it made perfect sense with our wedding being on a farm, no worries about my dress getting dirty! It was so easy and fun to wear, I absolutely loved wearing it and loved that it was so unusual. I wanted to totally surprise people.

.

My hair was by Shelley Knowles and make up by Beauty Simply

My three adult bridesmaids wore dusky pink tea length dresses from Very.com and the two little flower girls wore beautifully embroidered ivory dresses from M&S and flower garlands, they chose the dresses themselves because they were the most twirly! The boys all wore grey suits, silver polka dotted waistcoats and green ties/cravats from Marrime in Kendal.

.

.

.

.

Gavin’s sister Joanne and his Mum’s friend Sue took charge of the flowers, the main flowers were vintage looking roses and the rest I left up to them, they were beautiful. Each bouquet was tied with a piece of lace from my Nan’s wedding dress.

Gavin is the most laid back last minute person ever, so to get him involved we agreed he’d be in charge of sorting the transport… I was honestly expecting a tractor and trailer when a beautiful vintage VW camper arrived for the bridesmaids and a VW white soft top beetle for me and my Dad. I was over the moon and they were perfect, the boy did good.

Gavin’s sister and brother in law have a shop in Kendal called Armstrong Ward Lifestore, its beautiful so we asked them to help with decorations, they came up with the giant pink and green tissue paper pom poms we suspended with fishing wire from the ceiling, all 120 of them!

.

.

Joe Mather Photography

.

.

We used local caterer Liz Clarke for the food, when discussing potential mains we both immediately suggested Liz’s famous auction mart steak pie, it is a massive hit in the auction! It went down a storm and just suited our day perfectly. We also served rose veal burgers from our farm (Heaves Farm Veal) for the evening meal which were delicious.

Our photographer, Joe Mather was a friend of mine from school, it was nice to have him there taking pictures instead of a complete stranger and we are absolutely delighted with our photos, he captured the feeling of our wedding day perfectly.

We surprised one person on each table with a parcel, the tag said ‘here’s a little gift for you, please DO NOT OPEN until we ask you to’. After the starters were cleared we asked those people to stand and open it, each parcel had an individual novelty apron in especially chosen for them, and asked them to serve the steak pie we’d chosen for lunch! It was very funny seeing people’s reactions, the whole room just erupted in laughter, it really set the atmosphere for the rest of the day.

We had both a DJ and a live band, 24-7 who had been recommended to us by a friend, we loved them, they were perfect for our relaxed, party atmosphere, the dance floor was full all night.

.

.

Joe Mather Photography

.

.

Joe Mather Photography

.

For evening dessert we surprised everyone by arranging a local ice cream van to arrive with its music blaring, my Dad told the story in his speech of how when I was a little girl I always heard the ice cream van go passed down to the village and it never stopped for us up at the farm, my Dad always promised one day he’d get it to come… it was brilliant, and such a great, no fuss novelty dessert.

.

.

Joe Mather Photography

.

.

Joe Mather Photography

.

.

I had a few favourite bits! loved walking in to the church, kissing my new husband, walking out of the church as man and wife, seeing everyone open their aprons at dinner, the speeches, dancing all night and the ice cream van!

.

I also loved the run up to the day, the barn was a hive of activity for about three weeks before the wedding, it was so much fun and so many people were involved; from ironing the borrowed bunting to fluffing or tying up pom poms, putting up the tent, painting signs and even the aunties and grandmas helping with the constant supply of tea and cake!

.

.

Joe Mather Photography

.

.

After the wedding we travelled around New Zealand for three weeks in a camper van, it was amazing! We swam with dolphins, climbed a glacier, went white water rafting and even milked some cows (Gavin’s a farmer…!)

.

.

Joe Mather Photography

.

.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to be as organised as you possibly can well before the day, use your family and friends wherever possible  -they really do want to be involved, and finally accept that something will go wrong…it’s how you deal with it that matters! Enjoy every second of it and relax!

Pretty Vintage: A Real Wedding In The North West – Nisha & Duncan

October 28th, 2012 | Brides Up North: UK Wedding Blog

.

Thornton Manor Wedding by CG Weddings

.

.

Morning campers!  Let’s finish this week the way we mean to start the next: beautifully.  Today’s Real Wedding is an absolute licketty-split, with a cherry on top corker!

.

With images by CG Weddings, I love how Nisha and Duncan’s choice of soft, sugary ice cream tones and hand made decorations prettify and personalise their stunning stately home venue.  With a ten year engagement, this couple had certainly had plenty of time to plan – and taking their time paid off.

.

Delicious!

.

Nisha says:  We got engaged in North Wales in June 2002 and were married on August 10th 2012 at Thornton Manor, Cheshire, which we chose for beautiful grand romantic setting.

.

We went for a pretty vintage theme with pastel ice cream tones.

I chose a dress called Eden by Ian Stuart, accessories by Glitzy Secrets and carried a bouquet of sweet avalanche roses, Cezanne roses, apricot sweet avalanche roses and amnesia roses by Earth Flowers. There was lace entwined between the flowers.

I made all my favours, place settings, table plans and used bird cages and wired pastel roses. I also made my confetti cones, windmills and bunting to decorate the venue.

I can’t pick a favourite part of the day, the whole thing felt like a fairy tale and went so fast. I suppose the few moments Duncan and I had together alone during the day were lovely. There was one point we ran off into the gardens to be alone after the ceremony and it was perfect.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to take a step back and take it all in because when I was told it would go quickly by others, I didn’t believe it until the day was over. Now I look back and wish I could have slowed everything down!

Princess Pink! A Real Wedding In Yorkshire – Tanya & Ben

August 2nd, 2012 | Brides Up North: UK Wedding Blog

.

A Real Wedding in Leeds by Claire Evans Photography

.

.

The pretty just keeps on coming this week!

.

When my good friend and Brides Up North Featured Supplier Sarah of Leafy Couture told me that she was working on the flowers of a wedding fit for a princess I couldn’t wait to see the results.

.

Tanya and Ben’s perfect big day in pale pink at gorgeous Leeds wedding venue Harewood House didn’t disappoint.   Check out those blooms!

.

Tanya says:  We got engaged in a helicopter flying over Spain and were married on 16th June 2012 at Harewood House in Leeds.  We chose Harewood because of the gorgeous church and it’s beautiful gardens.  We had a marquee wedding on the Harewood estate.

We did not have a theme, we just wanted it to be pretty & elegant, and we chose a pink and white colour scheme.  As you only get to be a princess for one day, I chose a beautiful full skirted dress with layers of white tulle and crystal beading.  My bridesmaids wore lovely long pink dresses with a white sash and my chief bridesmaid wore the same but in opposite colours so that she would stand out.

.

I carried a bouquet of pink and white roses by Leafy Couture.

The amazing flowers for our wedding breakfast were by Leafy Couture and the amazing the room design was by Grace & Tailor, with chair covers and accessories by Ambience Venue Styling Leeds.

.

I think the flowers were the touch that stood out and made it look so fabulous , especially the enormous flower balls which scented the entire marquee.
