winter sparkle: a styled bridal shoot at holdsworth house

March 10th, 2017 | Alexis Forsyth

We’re stepping inside an enchanting Jacobean manor today for a dramatic, atmospheric styled shoot in Yorkshire.

Showcasing some of the best features that a wintery wedding has to offer – we’re talking bold bouquets, ambient lighting and a splash of gold – this styled shoot really brings the venue, Holdsworth House, to life.

Claire from The Bridal Emporium teamed up with a number of specialist suppliers from the north, including a magician. The group contended with some rather unforgiving weather on the day, but you’d never be able to tell from the fabulous photographs. If anything, the weather just adds to the drama of the images, helping us to fall in love with the beauty of a winter wedding all over again.

claire says: Our winter photo shoot took place in November last year and showed off the beautiful venue of Holdsworth House.

Many brides and grooms get married in the autumn and winter seasons now and we believe you can still look stylish in the colder months. We think this shoot screams uber chic with a touch of elegance, perfect for modern couples looking for a little bit of an edge to their special day.

The team at Holdsworth House were in discussion about doing a shoot with photographer Tim Dunk for a while, then The Bridal Emporium wanted to collaborate with Tim too, which led to us looking at the venue.

We thought that the venue would make a fabulous location for a photo shoot thanks to its dark wood and stone paneling which perfectly suit glitzy numbers, soft lighting, strong cake designs and wintery colours.

I gathered a fabulous team together and showed them our mood board, which oozed sparkle, warm colours, kilts and a touch of romance.

We wanted to create a ‘real life’ photo shoot, to really show brides and grooms how their day could unfold against the stunning backdrop of Holdsworth House. To Have and To Hold Films captured the romantic essence of the venue on film, too.

The day was very successful; we managed to get full ‘real life’ shots, including interaction with a real magician – Matthew J Magic – plus outdoor scenes, even though the weather wasn’t good at all. Luckily, we’re a fun team of suppliers who can work well together, so the poor weather didn’t affect the shoot!

This afternoon we’re bringing a little warmth to your day with this beautiful tuscan style wedding shoot that was captured right here in the UK.

Featuring stunning dresses from fabulous designer and Brides Up North Sponsor Charlotte Balbier, we were instantly taken with effortless simplicity of this elegant shoot, which draws inspiration from the Mediterranean. With contributions from talented suppliers in the North West and Yorkshire, the wonderful styling just goes to show that you don’t have to leave the UK to add a little Italian charm to your big day.

To tell us more about the details included, we’ll hand over the blogging reins to lady that captured it all, Yorkshire-based photographer Hayley Baxter.

hayley says: The aim of the shoot was to create a beautiful Tuscan Italian style wedding in the heart of England. A typical Tuscan style wedding is elegant yet rustic, charming, warm, passionate – and full of life!

We sprinkled our shoot with Tuscan magic through rustic touches, including displays of lemons, bouquets of pretty pink flowers and a beautiful flower crown to complement Charlotte Balbier’s gorgeous gowns. Of course, there was also a bottle of Amaroni della Valpolocel present at the shoot – a rich Italian red wine.

The backdrop for the shoot also added to the romantic rustic feel. We chose The Upper House for its stunning architecture and remote location. The pretty courtyard and rustic doorways are reminiscent of an Italian retreat. It’s such a peaceful and tranquil venue – you really could be anywhere!

Winter Styled Shoot at Tanfield House (c) Claire Basiuk Photography (11)

Earlier this month on the blog we brought you a gorgeous autumnal inspired shoot, and now today we’re moving on a season to bring you this whimsical winter styled shoot, from a rather special set of suppliers.

Organised by And so to Wed, a blog based in Leeds, today’s shoot is a celebration of small Northern wedding businesses, many of which hand make their items. As a blog that highly encourages the use of northern suppliers ourselves (it’s all in the name), we’re absolutely thrilled to help spread the message and share this dreamy set of images.

To introduce you to the talented collective that helped piece this pretty together, we welcome Louise Billingham of And so to Wed, to the blog.

louise says: We decided to do a winter inspired styled shoot to showcase some of the fantastic work produced by small business based in the north of the UK.

The chosen venue to provide our backdrop was (Brides Up North Featured Supplier) Tanfield House, a new wedding venue in Yorkshire that offers couples a truly unique experience, by giving them the use of the whole house to do with as they wish. Packed full of character, it provided the perfect setting.
