Real Wedding Recap Summer 2013: Peony Pink! A Real Wedding In Yorkshire – Michelle & Jon

June 18th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Its holiday season here on the blog, and as the team take a break until to rest and recharge for the second half of what’s set to be the biggest and best year year yet at Brides Up North HQ, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding pretty.

.

Usual service will recommence on 1st July 2013,  but in the meantime watch out for recaps of our favourite Real Weddings so far in 2013, plenty of eye candy, new features that we won’t be able to wait to share, some special supplier showcases and a couple of surprises too!

.

.

Yorkshire Wedding by Damian Hall Photography

.

As soon as this beautiful Real Wedding landed in my inbox, courtesy of Brides Up North Featured Supplier Damian Hall Photography, I got to blogging!  First shared back on Valentine’s Day this year, I couldn’t wait to spread the love with the prettiest pink peonies, the finest of details and the widest of smiles which really make this elegant and romantic country house wedding one to write home about.

.

Just blissful.

Michelle says:  We got engaged in July 2010 at the beautiful Great John Street Hotel in Manchester and we were married on Saturday 19th May 2012 at St Oswalds Church in Askrigg, Yorkshire Dales and had our reception at Yorebridge House, Bainbridge, Yorkshire Dales.

As soon as we arrived at Yorebridge House we fell in love with the boutique hotel. The setting is picture perfect with its beautiful and stylish décor, intimate surroundings and amazing food we knew it was perfect. The best thing was having the entire hotel to ourselves from the moment we arrived on the Friday evening till we checked out on the Sunday morning.

.

We chose an elegant and romantic country wedding theme, with a colour scheme of ivory and pale pink.

I chose ‘Susanna’ by Lyn Ashworth from Choola in Eccleshall, Sheffield. My dress was simply beautiful with a strapless lace bodice and a full silk and organza skirt. In the evening I added a sash to my dress that matched my bridesmaid dresses to make it look a little different.  My gorgeous headdress was by HF Couture.

.

.

Damian Hall Photography

.

.

My bridesmaids wore full length Dessy dresses in persian plum from White Lace & Promises in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire. My flower girl wore an ivory dress from John Lewis.

We travelled in a silver Bentley Continental Flying Spur from Beaus & Belles.  Our favourite part of the day was getting in the wedding car straight after the ceremony and going for some photographs in the most amazing locations, whilst sipping Veuve Clicquot!

.

.

Damian Hall Photography

.

.

My flowers – by Mat at Red Floral Architecture – determined the time of year we got married as my favourite flowers are Peonies. I carried a bouquet full of ivory peonies with crystal and pearl detail and my bridesmaids carried bouquets of pale pink peonies with matching pearl detail. My table decorations were masses of pale pink peonies set on tall candelabras with ivory pearls hanging from the candelabras.

We had a signature board with a picture from our pre wedding shoot (arranged through our photographer) for guests to write messages on instead of using a guest book. We had a wedding wish tree where guests hung their well wishes and advice for us to read. Our sweet shop proved very popular and looked really pretty after collecting different vintage jars from our travels.

Our photographer Damian Hall Photography and his Wife Charlotte were amazing, they really made our day extra special and made us enjoy every minute of our wedding day. Their work really does speak for itself; we have the most amazing Queensbury Album that we will enjoy looking at for years to come.

A Year In Bloom: Peonies For An April Bridal Bouquet

April 18th, 2013 | Julia Braime

.

Is it really nearly a year that our fabulous Featured Supplier Sarah of Leafy Couture has been sending us an online bouquet and burst of floral gorgeous every month?  To me, they just keep getting lovelier and lovelier!

.

You can see Leafy Couture’s blooms in full blossom this Sunday 21st April 2013 at The Brides Up North Luxury & Vintage Grand Wedding Exhibition at The National Railway Museum in York.  Do you have the date in your diaries? Click here for all the info and to pre-register as a VIP Bride To Be.

.

In the meantime, let’s see what’s in April’s bouquet…

.

Sarah says:  With the start of the sunshine and showers season I thought we would do something vibrant and seasonal this momth. The first of the peonies are starting to come through, gorgeous, scented and blowsy. I teamed them here with pink piano roses, a double rose variety with hundreds of beautiful petals, I added texture and movement using the purple clematis. Its a newcomer to the cut flower market and I can’t stop playing with it! We added Peach avalanche roses to give a contrasting colour. The bouquet was bound simply with peach ribbon. The overall feel is that of a bouquet picked from a summers garden, honeysuckle would have worked really well with the bouquet too.

.

Deep vibrant dresses would work well with this colour scheme, a vibrant cerise pink bridesmaid’s dress. The shape of the bouquet would compliment most dresses.

A Florist’s Almanac – A Year In Brilliant Bridal Blooms

August 26th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

I get lots of emails from readers of the wedding blog asking for floral ideas and inspiration.  My wish is your command.  You don’t mess with a bride to be in full wedding planning swing now, do you?!

.

This is a print off and save post if ever I wrote one! To ensure seasonality and style, I enlisted the help of fantastic florist, Sophie of I Heart Flowers.  Here are her picks for a year of brilliant bridal blooms.

.

Presenting:  A Florist’s Almanac.  Sophie says…

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: I Heart Flowers

.

.

White vendella roses and eucalyptus make a classic choice for the cold months. Team a simple bouquet like this one with faux fur, feathers, diamantes and pearls for understated elegance.

.

.

.

.

Red "passion" roses are the classic “I love you”.

Deep pink anenomies provide wonderful colour for winter and spring weddings, available in bold red, pink and deep blue and striking in white with their black centres.

White ranunculus, pink antirrhinums (snap dragons), pink "Esperance" roses and ruscus.

May brings the start of peony season, peonies being one of the most requested and popular flowers for weddings. The peony season runs from May to July, and peonies are sometimes available into August if you’re lucky. Pink "Sarah Bernhardt" peonies, Queen Anne’s lace, "Mimi Eden" spray roses, pink bupleurum, white sweet peas, eucalyptus.

.

.

.

.
This bouquet shouts summer!  Pale pink peonies, white gerbera daisies, yellow craspedia, "Lemonade" and "Lydia" spray roses, champagne grass, eucalyptus and echevaria succulents.

.

.
Hot pink "Caprice de Meilland" roses and pale "Pink Peony" roses with eucalyptus from the Real Flower Company – November bride Anna

.
Brassica flowers are a great choice for winter brides looking for something a little different and are available in beautiful whites, greens and purples as well as some red shades too. Green and white brassicas, white lisianthus, eucalytus and dracaena.

Friday Fabulous! Brides Up North’s Northern Talent Guest Edit For Wedding Magazine

August 19th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

I have a very special Friday Fabulous for you this week, as was featured on Wednesday (the day of the big server crash no less!) as a Guest Editor on Wedding Magazine’s website.

.

.

.

.

Wedding Magazine was my bible when I was getting hitched, so just to be asked was a huge honour for this and reflects how far Brides Up North has come in the last nine months.

.

It was also an absolutely brilliant opportunity for me to show off some amazing Northern talent.  I hope that you enjoy it.  Be inspired by my muted pink palette of perfection!

Over to the new Mrs Jennings: Richard proposed at the Priory in Tynemouth at the end of September 2010. We were there first thing on a Saturday morning, so we had the whole place to ourselves. The proposal was on bended knee, right on the edge of the cliff overlooking the sea, and the sun even made an appearance just as he popped the question – perfect!

We married on 21st May 2011 at Woodhill Hall in Otterburn, Northumberland.  A lot of family were coming over from Canada, so we were primarily looking for a venue we could hire for the whole weekend. Our families and bridal party were able to come and stay with us there for three nights, which gave us lots of time to have a proper visit with them and to have an extended wedding celebration. We knew Woodhill Hall was the place for us as soon as we walked in – grand enough to feel special, but somehow still managing to feel intimate and comfortable.

I had an all white bouquet with hydrangeas, tulips, peonies, sweet peas and roses by Bels Flowers

.

.

Brides Up North UK Wedding Blog: Karen McGowran Photography

.

.

I wanted a reasonably simple and elegant dress – I’m not a ‘bling’ type of girl, so I wasn’t after anything with too much sparkly fuss. I also didn’t want a strapless gown, which was a hard thing to find! I struggled to find the right dress until I visited YAP Bridal Boutique in Newcastle. After trying a few dresses on with no success, the owner Jo mentioned she was going to start carrying a new designer, and showed me a picture of a dress from their catalogue. She was sure it would look great, so went to the trouble of ordering up a sample from London, in my right size, just so I could try it. Wouldn’t you know, Jo was right – it was the ‘one’!

.

.

.

My bridesmaids wore Alfred Sung style D476 in Niagara – they looked AMAZING! I ordered them from Bridal Wish, who had the most competitive prices for that style.

I can’t recommend Karen McGowran Photography, Bels Flowers, The Fine and Funky Events Company, Simone Whitehead (hair) , Paula Pace of Perfection Nail & Beauty (makeup) and Real Life Films enough – they all went above and beyond for us! We also worked with Simply Bows and Chair Covers, Purple Peacock Stationery, Blades Suit Hire, Stuart Collingwood (pianist) to name a few more – all were great.

We wanted to day to feel quite personal – instead of a traditional guestbook, we had a wedding ‘tree’ where guests inked their thumbs and pressed them onto the print as leaves on the branches and then signed their names next to it. It looked amazing by the end of the night and will be lovely framed. We also had special favours, which were small pieces of traditional Danish wedding cake, which reflected my family’s heritage – this type of cake was served at my mother’s, grandmother’s and great grandmother’s wedding, and we were so lucky to find Birgit Underwood in London who was able to make them for us! I also embroidered our initials and wedding date in blue onto a vintage handkerchief (which was my ‘something blue’ carried in the pocket of my dress) and also designed keepsake escort cards which were then made by Purple Peacock Stationery.

Our wedding cake was made by a friend of ours – unfortunately it had an ‘accident’ on the way to the venue! It tasted great though!

We had an AMAZING band, No Time For Jive, agree to come and play for us. They got us and our guests up and embarrassing ourselves on the dance floor in no time!

How can you pick a favourite part of a day like this!? I loved the band, and I loved the ‘evening buffet’ where we replaced the ‘buffet’ with a crepe station! Executive Catering provided everything we needed and a selection of crepes that were made to order in front of the guests – they were delicious! And good value!

.

Most of all, I just loved marrying the man I loved in front of so many people who care about us… it’s amazing.

My top tip for other Brides Up North is to find a supplier that you like and trust, and ask them for reliable suppliers that they’ve worked with before – it really is the best way to find great suppliers. Karen tipped us off to a lot of great people.

Super Sunday!

January 16th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

I’m suffering a little right now as I am waking up in Dublin after my best friend’s hen party! Yesterday we hired a stretch hummer from Carry Anybody Limo, and headed up to Johnnie Foxes in the Dublin mountains!  Later, we enjoyed a slap up meal at Bang, followed by a VIP table at Lillie Bordellos. Awesome!

.

The bride is still sleeping it off, so in the meantime let’s see what the blogosphere has in store for us this Super Sunday, as I recount the best bits of the week…with a special treat at the end!

And now for something special.  Debs over at Belle Amour featured me this week on her blog, talking about my Dream Wedding (if Alan and I could do it all again), and some other fun stuff.

She made this pretty mood board all for me…
