industrial cool: halfpenny london for a stylish wedding at holmes mill – jane & nathan

June 26th, 2018 | Aislinn Thompson

Get ready for an achingly cool real wedding as we welcome fabulous newlyweds Jane and Nathan to the blog. The super fashionable industrial interior of Holmes Mill in Clitheroe provided the swoon-worthy backdrop to their big day; with its bare plaster walls, metal columns and cinema-style fold-away seating, perfectly styled with simple, blowsy blooms of hydrangea and sweeping curves of festoon lights. There’s even a chic Louis Ghost chair to perch on while signing the register.

Jane is effortlessly beautiful in a Halfpenny London dress, a classic vintage-inspired gown with fine corded lace and delicate cap sleeves. The open back and dropped waist add a modern feel that is totally at home with the industrial vibes. She finishes her outfit with a stunning pair of towering Jimmy Choo sandals in delicate grey. The guys are equally cool in black tie, which looks great against the shimmering blue of the bridesmaid dresses.

Family is important, and so the couple’s adorable twins quite rightly take centre stage, and fabulous details from those closest them, such as the hand-drawn table names by Jane’s father, add wonderful personal elements to the celebrations too.

Diary Date: Love Nathan and Jane’s choice of venue? Then be sure to join us for our Urban Luxe Wedding Show at the stunning Holmes Mill on Sunday 23rd September, 11am to 2pm, FREE ENTRY.

jane says: We got engaged in Palma in June 2016, after almost six years together. I’d given Nathan quite the hard time about proposing, so I don’t think he had much choice!

We got married on Saturday 26th May 2018. We wanted a bank holiday weekend so we could have a ‘wedding weekend’, extending the festivities to the Sunday.

We had our ceremony and reception at Holmes Mill, Clitheroe. I found the venue by chance on Instagram and loved the pictures, so took Nathan along to have a look. We both fell in love with the place, which was very quirky and different to anything we’d visited already. We wanted somewhere our friends wouldn’t have been to before and, as this was a new venue, it ticked that box. We would absolutely recommend the venue – all the staff were amazing and the day went without any issues.

Our colour scheme was mainly blue and white, which was purely to match the bridesmaids’ dresses, which I’d already fallen in love with.

For my dress, I chose a Halfpenny London design, which was bought from The White Closet in Didsbury. I was actually 12 weeks’ pregnant with twins at the time, so I wanted something that wasn’t too fitted so as to not put too much pressure on me after the birth. The dress was called Violet, which was extra special as this was my grandmother’s name.

Nathan chose a black-tie theme for the men, as he wanted something a bit different to the traditional blue suit. He bought his suit from Reiss.

My bridesmaids wore Ghost dresses in blue, which I loved as they could each wear one that was a slightly different design. I actually found these dresses before my own!

ivory elegance. roses & candlelight for a romantic wedding at thornton manor – victoria & jake

December 4th, 2017 | Rachel Parry

A Romantic Wedding at Thornton Manor (c) Hayley Baxter Photography (22)

We’re starting the week with a show-stopper of a real wedding – seriously, this is a beauty!

Though Victoria and Jay chose to keep the styling simple and had no set theme, the venue and decorative elements are pure luxury and class.

We adore the big blousy floral arrangements and bouquets, not to mention Victoria’s dress – wow! The back detail in particular has us all the heart eyes!

The grandest of reception rooms, a choice menu for the wedding breakfast and Molton Brown goodies as favours cements this as a big day we would have loved to have been on the guest list for.

victoria says: We got engaged on Easter Sunday. I had been away in the USA for two weeks with my family, and on the night I got back Jake wanted to take me out. We went for a meal and caught up on the past few weeks. Then, after the meal Jake produced an Easter egg and written on the egg were the words “will you marry me?” and he produced the ring. There were plenty of tears! Although we had been together since I was 16, it was still a surprise.

We set the date for 19th August 2017 as we wanted a summer wedding.

Our chosen venue was Thornton Manor, Cheshire. Jake had come across the venue through work about five years ago and we always said that when we got married we would take a look. It was always going to be the one, it is beautiful!

We didn’t have a set theme but we knew we wanted to keep things simple and elegant, so we chose ivory flowers, neutral colours and lots of candles. This also kept things light for summer and was in keeping with the classy feel of the venue.

When it came to my dress, I knew I wanted a slim fit design that was a little different. In the end I had to pick between my dress and classic strapless dress but chose mine because it was that bit different. I got it from The Confetti Box in Manchester. I had so many compliments on the day of people saying how unique it was.

I hired The Dollz for my bridal hair and makeup, who did a great job and my makeup lasted well into the night.

Jake’s and the groomsmen’s suit were from Whitfield & Ward, in Wilmslow.

We found the perfect bridesmaid dresses in One Fine Day Bridal, in Preston.

ruffled. vera wang for an exquisite wedding at rudding park – amanda & steve

March 14th, 2017 | Alexis Forsyth

An Elegant Wedding at Rudding Park (c) Bethany Clarke Photography (47)

After popping the question across the pond in sunny LA, Steve and his bride-to-be Amanda tied the knot at luxury Harrogate-based hotel, Rudding Park, in October 2016.

Wearing the most sublime Vera Wang gown, Amanda was the picture-perfect bride, with her gorgeous bridesmaids by her side in sophisticated grey maxi dresses.

We love it when a couple decide to get hands on and creative, and Amanda and Steve didn’t disappoint; making some of the key decorations and props for their special day, with the mother of the groom baking a stunning cake to match.

Truly elegant and understated – we think you’ll be just as smitten as us when you see all the precious highlights.

amanda says: We got engaged when we were on holiday in the US. We had gone to New York for a few days, then flew to LA, where we then travelled over to Orange County to stay with some friends for a week. We then went from there to LA for a few days, which is where Steve proposed!

We were at the hotel waiting for our friends to join us and I had just woken up from an afternoon nap, when Steve got down on one knee! We then rang my mum to tell her the good news and she didn’t believe us! (We had been together for over eight years at this point, so I think she thought it was never going to happen!)

Our wedding date was 29th October 2016. We chose this date as – to be honest – we knew it would be cheaper than getting married in the summer and we both love autumn and the colours associated with it. There are also no expectations with the weather!

We got married at Rudding Park, Harrogate. We chose this venue as not only was it stunning with amazing food, but it was also reasonably priced and a good location for family and friends to easily travel to. We would highly recommend Rudding Park, they really helped make our day amazing and everything ran smoothly. The staff were all so lovely.

The colour theme for our big day was ivories and greens.

I wore an ivory strapless trumpet/mermaid gown by Vera Wang. I was really lucky as I managed to find one in my size on Still White, so I got it much cheaper than what it originally cost! I love Vera Wang’s designs and just loved the bottom of the dress – there were so many layers! I bought my shoes from Office and for the night do I changed into a Needle and Thread dress.

My bridesmaids wore grey multi-way maxi dresses. I chose these as all my bridesmaids loved them and felt comfortable as they could wear them slightly differently.
