i’d go anywhere with you. an enchanting wedding at rise hall – nichola & phil

August 2nd, 2017 | Alexis Forsyth

A Romantic Wedding at Rise Hall (c) Studio 41 (43)

Beautiful bride Nichola brings our fairytale dreams to life in today’s real wedding, by arriving at the church in a gorgeous horse and carriage. But the magic doesn’t stop there – she and beau Phil, hosted their celebrations at the stunning Rise Hall in the East Riding of Yorkshire, decorated with the most captivating blooms, candles and fairy lights.

With travel at the heart of their wedding theme, there are lots of personal touches to admire – think Polaroid snaps, maps and luggage tags. As for the savoury table brimming with crisps, popcorn and pretzels, and the cocktail bar – this is a winning combination, if you ask us!

Other highlights include the homemade photo booth and quirky scratch card favours, but we’ll let Nichola share all the gorgeous details from their special day. Enjoy!

nichola says: We got engaged in Sutton in March 2015. We were supposed to be visiting New York – where Phil had originally planned to propose in Central Park – but I slipped a disc in my back a few months before, which required immediate surgery and meant I was unable to fly. Phil planned a quiet long weekend in the country instead where he ended up proposing, as his nerves couldn’t handle waiting until the following November when New York had been rebooked for!

We tied the knot on 6th May 2017. We knew we wanted a spring wedding as it is our favourite time of the year.

We got married at Rise Hall in the East Riding of Yorkshire. I always had Rise Hall in my mind when researching wedding venues but Phil had been unsure, as he had visited it years before when the renovations were just beginning. But as soon as we arrived we knew it was the perfect venue for us, we completely fell in love.

A Romantic Wedding at Rise Hall (c) Studio 41 (26)

Our theme loosely revolved around travel, love and flowers. We based our table names on places we had visited, with a Polaroid of the two of us in that place on a mini easel. Our table plan was a map with luggage tags identifying each table. We had a restored vintage suitcase for cards. This suitcase was gifted to me from my beautiful bridesmaids who filled it with presents to make a wedding advent calendar, which I opened every morning leading up to the day. We had framed love quotes dotted around the venue accompanied by numerous jars filled with lavender and gypsophila. Our florist did a wonderful job of filling the rest of the house and church with the most beautiful floral arrangements.

Our colour scheme consisted of a soft palette of lavender, blush pink, soft blues and creams. We really loved the soft, romantic look this created.

I chose a Sottero & Midgley dress from Deborah Moore Bridalwear in Sutton. I must have visited at least ten shops before I went back to Deborah Moore and tried on the dress again that I, along with my mum and bridesmaid, had compared every other dress to! It was completely different to the dress I had imagined. I wouldn’t have even tried it on had Deborah not suggested it, so I am extremely grateful to her! My Manolo Blahniks completed my bridal ensemble and were a wedding gift from Phil.

Phil and the groomsmen chose Ted Baker suits from Slaters Menswear. We made the decision to buy the suits after not finding anything suitable to hire. It is something he and the groomsmen can wear again and again. The ties and pocket squares, meanwhile, were from Swagger & Swoon.

My bridesmaids wore gorgeous long dresses from Little Mistress and our flower girl wore a pretty dress from Monsoon.

The bridal party and myself got ready at Rise Hall. Victoria Farr did my wedding makeup and she was absolutely wonderful. She did my makeup a few years prior when I was a bridesmaid and I knew then I wouldn’t want anyone else to do my makeup on my special day. Robyn Turnbull styled my hair. Robyn is my regular hairdresser and there wasn’t anyone else I would have wanted. Victoria and Robyn both made the morning such a joy.

love equation. jenny packham for a glamorous wedding at rise hall – katie & aaron

March 28th, 2017 | Laura McDonagh

Jenny Packham for a Wedding at Rise Hall (c) Bethany Jane Clarke (49)

When mathematicians Aaron and Katie decided to get hitched, their love of all things numeric found their way into their planning; from the Venn diagrams on their Save the Dates, to infinity symbols on their stationery.

And what a day it was, with nods to Katie’s Scottish heritage in the gorgeous blooms, Jimmy Choo heels and a menu that’s guaranteed to make you drool rather inelegantly over your keyboard. We’re sorry (not sorry).

katie says: Aaron and I got engaged in May 2014. Aaron and I had planned a long weekend away in Northumberland as a treat, and we spent one day in a beautiful fishing village called Craster. We were walking around a totally deserted castle, taking in the beautiful views when he dropped to one knee and said “I have something else I want to ask you”. In all honesty, it was a complete shock. He spent a good minute getting a wet knee, assuring me he was serious, he‘d asked my dad, and that he was taking me to buy a ring the following weekend. Of course, I said yes!

We got married on 10th September 2016 at Rise Hall in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Rise Hall was suggested to us by a friend, and it got pushed down the list due to the distance from Leeds. However, the minute (and I mean the actual minute) we walked into Rise Hall and were greeted by Helen (the lady of the house) we just knew it was everything we wanted.

We were able to have exactly the type of wedding we wanted at Rise Hall – you have the venue from Friday until Sunday. We had our family and wedding party join us for an informal meal on the Friday night, which was wonderful.

Our blessing took place at All Saints Church, about half-a-mile down the lane from the Hall and was overseen by Rev Andy Simpson, the vespa-driving, guitar-playing vicar. We had countless compliments about Andy; he really and truly made our blessing one of the best parts of the day.

We didn’t have a theme for our wedding – instead, we had lots of things that mean a lot to us. The flowers in the bouquets, the boys’ buttonholes and the ladies’ corsages had thistles in them and they were tied together with tartan ribbon to reflect the fact that I was born and grew up in Scotland. Aaron has supported Middlesbrough Football Club since he was tiny, so our table names were a selection of his favourite Middlesbrough players. We also both studied Maths at university, so our save the dates were Venn-diagrams, and our invites and other stationery were embossed with an infinity symbol.

I chose a Jenny Packham gown called Lilya, which I bought from Ava Rose Hamilton in Silsden. As soon as we got engaged, so many people said “Oh, I can just see you in a Jenny Packham gown!” However, I refused to try them on as they were way out of my price range. I tried on quite a few gowns, and there were definitely a few that I could have happily got married in. As luck would have it, though, Ava Rose were having a sample sale on their Jenny Packham dresses, so I went along (first in the queue with two of my friends). Lilya was the first one I tried on and I loved it so much. However, I definitely didn’t have that  ‘this is the one’ moment that everyone talks about – I spent a good hour taking it off and on again while deciding. Eventually I bought it, and also went for a long cream veil. My shoes were Jimmy Choo Langs, in steel grey glitter. My dress had a slit up the front, so I knew they’d also be on show!

On the morning of the wedding, Aaron sent a beautiful bottle of champagne to my room, along with a Tiffany infinity bracelet he’d bought as a wedding present.

Valentine Cinema. A Week Of Love In Motion.

February 10th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Love is in the air!  Being a loved up soon-to-be-wed, it probably hasn’t escaped your notice that it’s Valentine’s Day this Friday.  When considering how to mark the event here on the wedding blog  – because in real life with our baby girl it’ll be a couple of pizzas, a movie and an early night! – I thought it might be nice to share a few movies of our own.  Enlisting the help of Brides Up North Featured Supplier Emma of Story Of Your Day, we’re letting a few special Brides Up North love stories take centre stage as we bring you an extra little lunchtime feature in addition to our usual schedule.  Because we love you.

Lois’ Morning at Rise Hall from Story of Your Day on Vimeo.

Emma says:  I was asked by Julia for a week long feature about my films. At first I was excited, but then I wondered how I could possibly choose five of my favourite films. I’ve recently been looking at the service I provide in the hope of offering everything a bride wants in a Wedding Film Package. This has meant I have been studying a lot of other Videographers in my price range and above. I have found that wedding films can be very formulaic and after a while I got quite frustrated by the fact that they were so similar. So although I’ve made some improvements I am still essentially offering the high end bespoke wedding film service I did before where no film is the same as the last … how can they be? Every wedding is different and every one unique. So I’ve put together a series of films for Brides Up North which, I hope, can demonstrate how I do wedding films differently, creatively and beautifully.

I believe your wedding films should be enjoyed time and time again. That’s why I make short-form wedding films unlike any other.  You’ve probably found your dream venue, your perfect photographer and maybe even your shoes with killer heels.  So now, it’s time to find the right person to make your wedding come to life on film, which can be cherished forever.

In your search for the right filmmaker, you may have found many wedding films seem very formulaic.  My films don’t follow a ’recipe’  because every wedding is different,  every couple is unique and so every story I tell is true to that couple and their wedding only.

I’ll capture the essence of your day and each bespoke film will tell your individual story. Your day will fly by and if you blink you’ll miss it. This is a chance to look back, remember the day and cherish those special moments forever.

Rest assured that you’re in very capable hands. My films are professional looking because they’re filmed by myself and other carefully selected experienced camera crews, using a combination of high-definition and DSLR cameras and beautifully crafted by myself using the best film-editing equipment.

The first this week is a Bridal Preparation Film – many of my couples choose this option so they can catch up with what their loved one got up to in the build up to the ceremony. It can be an emotional time. And Lois’ morning was just that. She married Olympian Alex Smith at Sarah Beeney’s Rise Hall in August this year.  Click here to see the Real Wedding on Brides Up North.

My background has taught me to identify and appreciate special moments, reactions and emotions and my expertise lies in story-telling.   A personable nature and ability to engage easily means I’ll put your guests at ease when I talk to them about your day. Their thoughts and feelings will add flavour to your story. The guests at Lois and Alex’s wedding were literally queuing up to give them their good luck messages.

I was thrilled that Alex and Lois loved their films so much as they were such fun to make. “Thank you so much for the two films you made of our wedding day. We thoroughly enjoyed watching both – especially the film of the day! Alex and I were so glad we chose you to film our wedding day, it was the most fantastic day, which we can now watch over and over! We absolutely love your work, Mr & Mrs Smith.”

I can’t believe it’s finally here!  Months of plans and preparations have paid off as I look forward to our headline event this season – the MASSIVE Brides Up North Super Showcase Grand Wedding Exhibition at Ramside Hall Hotel on Sunday 9th September 2012: that’s this weekend!  Eeep!

We are throwing open the whole venue (two massive ballrooms, a grand marquee and some outdoor exhibits – perfect on a sunny weekend like this one) to welcome OVER 100 of the region’s finest wedding suppliers and all you lovely brides-to-be and your families.

.

I’ve worked day and night (with some assistance from my small yet perfectly formed team of helpers!) to bring this event together and make it bigger and better even than our last show this Spring -  which was a fabulous day packed to the rafters with wedding inspiration and over 1,000 visitors!  What can I say?  I love a challenge!

.

An exhibitor space sell out, the event is now recognised as the largest free bridal event in the North East, and if that’s not worth popping along to, I don’t know what is!

.

I’m thrilled to say that it looks like all the hard work has been worth it as all the elements have come together to make one amazing day.  The web is abuzz with excitement, and the VIP pre-registrations are flooding in.  I just can’t wait to see you all now!
