Soughton Hall – a stunning Georgian country house on the border of North Wales and Cheshire – is today’s enchanting backdrop to Ashleigh and Rhys’ special day in early August.

Opting for a classic white theme accentuated by beautiful cleans lines and lots of shimmering glass, the wedding is a blueprint for a truly timeless décor and look. And, unconventionally, the bride even wanted her bridesmaids dressed in white, but eventually settled on an Instagram-worthy pastel pink shade instead. Equally divine!

Along with some utterly beautiful outdoor pics – there are plenty of other pretty touches and moments to pore over; from the bride’s gorgeous calla lily bouquet and confetti balloons to the stunning four-tiered cake and shortbread biscuit favours.

So, as we gear up for the weekend ahead – which for us, and you lovely brides-to-be that join us, will include spectacular Luxury Wedding Shows at Saltmarshe Hall, East Yorkshire, and Capesthorne Hall, Cheshire – we’ll leave you in Ashleigh’s capable hands as she talks though all her wonderful wedding day highlights – enjoy!

ashleigh says: We got engaged while in Liverpool. Rhys pretended we were going to meet friends for the evening but took me for a surprise meal at our favourite restaurant, The Art School. The ring was hidden in the starter board which featured a number of small boxes containing different foods. I opened the box with the ring and the next thing I knew, he was down on one knee! Awkwardly, I had just taken a very fishy mouthful of the starter so was reluctant to kiss him after saying yes! We then continued with the seven-course tasting menu and then headed to Alma de Cuba to dance the night away with my brand-new rock!

We got married on 4th August 2018. It was one of the Saturday summer dates Soughton Hall had available for 2018, and we were adamant that the wedding needed to take place in the summer holidays as we’re both teachers. If I’m honest, I also liked the even numbers; 04/08/18 has a nice ring to it!

We were married at Caldy Church about 200 metres from my mum and dad’s house, where I got ready on the morning of the wedding.

We had the wedding breakfast and evening do at Soughton Hall down the road from Rhys’ mum and dad in North Wales. Rhys worked there when he was younger and we had walked past several times walking his dog and always said we’d love to get married there. We didn’t even bother to go and view any other venues – we knew that was the one.

In terms of the styling of the wedding, I wanted clean lines and modern simplicity so there was a lot of glass: vases and circular glass plates with flowers underneath on the table. I tend to take the reins when it comes to interior, fashion and design so Rhys was happy to let me run with ideas.

As for the colour scheme – this was white, white, white – you can’t go wrong! Also, its timeless nature was important to me.

berry gorgeous: a rich & opulent styled shoot at soughton hall

December 12th, 2017 | Aislinn Thompson

A Berry Styled Shoot at Soughton Hall (c) Teresa C Photography (36)

We’re getting your Tuesday off to fine start with this styled shoot which features ones of the dreamiest colour palettes for the time of year. Rich berry and golden tones turn up the heat at the opulent Soughton Hall, a Georgian country house in North Wales that once was a bishop’s palace.

Award-winning make-up artist Cathryn Kerwin-Rawlinson engineered the shoot, having witnessed a dramatic change in the interior style of the venue since it changed ownership in the last couple of years. Here she shares her story behind the shoot and introduces us to the talented suppliers who assisted her in achieving her vision…

cathryn says: I regularly work and exhibit at Soughton Hall, which is close to Chester in the North Wales countryside. I love the details outside the property and the décor inside and wanted to create a rich and romantic look to complement the high-end venue.

As a wedding venue, it is my personal favourite and I thought it was a great place to do an autumn/winter styled shoot, so I spoke to friends and contacts in the industry to see if they were interested in a collaboration. Everyone I asked was interested in the shoot and venue and wanted to take part. The theme we chose was romantic styling with rich berry and autumnal tones.

The interior décor of the main room at Soughton is navy blue and gold, so we wanted to pick up on the colours of the room but use rich colours to complement. We opted for a colour scheme of gold, navy, deep reds and burgundy. A Pinterest board was created and everyone knew that the look and feel for the shoot was opulence and richness.

For the table decorations, Vikki Sweeney from Sapphire Bespoke Events went for very rich golds and jewel colours, while the flowers by Carol Anne’s were a mix of deep reds, again taking inspiration from the Pinterest board we all created before the shoot. Lindsey Devlin of Devlin Designs created invitations and table cards, again picking up on the chosen colour scheme.

In the summer, I did a wedding for a bride who wore an Essense of Australia gown from Bellissima Brides and I rated it my top dress for 2017. And so, when Carol Ellis-Thompson, our hair stylist, contacted Bellissima to see if they would like to take part, we asked them to bring some of their Essence gowns along. Our model, Gaby, suited these gowns perfectly and they fitted her like a glove!

everything’s rosy. pronovias for a relaxed wedding at soughton hall – rowena & edward

February 1st, 2017 | Julia Braime

A Blush Wedding at Soughton Hall (c) ER Photography (38)

This afternoon we’re heading to north Wales border to relive the beautiful big day of Edward and Rowena.

Keen on a wedding that was personal and relaxed, the bride and groom injected elements of their love story into the décor, theming and wedding menu, topping it all off with a gorgeous navy and blush pink colour scheme.

Highlights for us include Rowena’s stunning Pronovias gown, the pretty blooms and naked cake, plus some very special guests – the couple’s two pet whippets, Betsi and Milly.

rowena says: We got engaged whilst on our annual ‘hound holiday’ (holiday with the dogs). We went to Cornwall, and on West Portholland beach on 23rd June 2016 (the day after my 30th birthday) Ed popped the question. The beach was empty, it was just us two and our two dogs. It took me completely by surprise!

We quickly set the date for October 9th 2016. We had booked a holiday to Mauritius back in the January, flying on 10th October. Within about 15 minutes of the proposal we discussed how soon we’d like to get married – and decided as we had been together 11-and-a-half-years there was no need to hang around So, we decided to make Mauritius the honeymoon and it just so happened we found a venue we loved with availability the day before.

We got married at Soughton Hall, near Mold in Flintshire. It’s within a couple of miles of our house. I had pretty much decided it was ‘the one’ before getting out the car! The house is beautiful, and many of the rooms have recently been renovated. We knew the long drive bordered by trees would look beautiful in October as the leaves were changing. It’s a boutique venue, and we felt it perfect for a private and relaxed day. The team are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

We didn’t have a theme for the wedding as such, but we wanted things relaxed and personal to us.

Due to the time of year I didn’t feel that pale shades would work for the colour scheme – so we chose navy as a base, as it is flattering on our fair skin! With this we added soft blush pink and also some other shades of blue in the flowers.

I found my wedding dress within less than a week of the engagement. I was meeting a friend for lunch and we decided to go and try a few dresses on. We only went to one shop, Brides of Chester, and they couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. I didn’t have much idea on shape but knew I wanted something lace and ideally not strapless. The dress was the fifth and final dress I tried on – Pleasant by Pronovias. I chose it because I loved the lace, the neckline, and the gorgeous long train – after all, when else do you get to have a train?

Ed wore a navy lounge suit with pale pink scrunch tie from Groom in Chester, complemented by Hugo Boss tan leather belt and tan monk shoes from Dune. The best man and usher wore navy lounge suits and pale pink ties, also from Groom.

My bridesmaid wore a navy Monsoon dress, and a beaded navy ribbon sash from eBay.

Our photographers were Jo and Jon from ER Photography. They were amazing! From our very first conversation with them we really clicked and knew we would be able to relax with them. On the day of the wedding they were fab, guests commented on how lovely they both were and how relaxed they felt being photographed – and we felt the same. We couldn’t have asked any more of them – and the results of their efforts are way beyond our expectations! They are both so creative and talented.
