If you’re currently on the hunt for a venue with individual features, charm and class, plus that’s totally private and a space you can truly make your own – then you’re in luck! For today we are catching up with our fabulous Sponsor venue, the stunning Bowdon Rooms.
Located in the leafy idyll of Bowdon, near Altrincham, Cheshire, this really is a rare gem of a venue, complete with high ceilings, sparkling drapes and ornate fireplaces and features. Furthermore, (for you party lovers out there) it boasts a sprung dancefloor and stage large enough for an 18-piece swing band, so dancing shoes are a must!
Impressed? Us too! And that’s why we regularly visit The Bowdon Rooms to stage one of our Luxury Wedding Fairs, inviting couples to come and see this beauty for themselves. Our next event at the venue – a Mini Pop-Up Wedding Festival – will take place on Sunday 5th November, 11am to 3pm, and its FREE ENTRY, so there really is no excuse to miss out! We’ll be joined there by the areas crème de la crème of wedding suppliers to help bring all your big day plans together.
To whet your appetite in the meantime, we’re handing over the blog to director of The Bowdon Rooms Neil Hughes, to tell us more about this spectacular space.
Can you tell us about the style and history of The Bowdon Rooms?
neil says: Our luxury wedding venue in Cheshire is a charming building that offers an abundance of authentic character and beautiful features. More than 110 years old, the property’s Edwardian decadence will offer you and your guests a superior environment.
Amid subtle yet exquisite details of art nouveau charm, you can relax and dine in our glorious ballroom, with its stunning chandeliers suspended from a 40-foot domed ceiling, against a backdrop of romantically-lit voiles.
What types of couples does the venue appeal too?
The Bowdon Rooms is definitely suited to couples who would like an authentic vintage venue, that is what we are. We have over 100 years of unspoilt architecture and features. And because we also host live music, we attract couples who wish to party, with fantastic live bands playing on our stage at most functions. We have a full sound and light system, in house engineers and event managers you can trust. Plus, a late licence until 1am.
Can you tell us about its reception rooms?
The ballroom – Our beautiful spacious ballroom seats up to 230 guests and offers a stage large enough for an 18-piece swing band. With a fully-integrated lighting system and an experienced team to help create your ideal theme, we have everything to inspire and deliver – all under one roof. It is a period ballroom with chandeliers and has a fully-sprung maple dance floor to really get the party in full swing.
The lounge – Our other reception room is located on the first floor and offers a more intimate environment. An air-conditioned jazz lounge at the top of the building. It accommodates up to 90 guests and is perfect for wedding reception drinks or civil ceremonies. It can either be set as a 1940’s speakeasy, or a modern voile lit lounge.
What would you say are the unique and special features of The Bowdon Rooms?
We were built in 1905, so we do really have an abundance of period features; from sprung dance floor to fireplaces, to those hard to describe nooks and crannies – but they all ooze charm. We have two huge chandeliers that tower above the ballroom adding a touch of elegance.
How can couples really make the space their own?
We love having couples help design their own special day, so just ask about anything at all. Couples can choose their own colour scheme as we can completely dress the room in their fabric of choice, and they can also work on table decorations, favours, table layouts – in fact nearly every aspect of the wedding. We also have plenty of couples who provide their own band.
Tell us about the food and drink options available at the venue…
We do all of the catering with our team of award-winning chefs. They have worked around the world and provide every type of food; from an informal Mediterranean risotto to a formal four-course meal. If couples want to go away from standard menus and personalise their choices, that’s fine, they can come in, meet with chefs and have a menu tasting.
How do the venue’s staff assist couples in planning their big day?
Every bride and groom are assigned their own wedding event manager. Karen has worked here for more than ten years, and Suzanne for more than six, so couples can rest assured that our team has a huge amount of experience.
What is the feedback like from couples who have married at The Bowdon Rooms?
Most couples love our flexibility; we are not a hotel with fixed packages. So, clients can really get involved, helping with table design, centre pieces and venue set-up. Quite often we have a team of ushers and bridesmaids in helping out, it makes for a very relaxing wedding party.

We don’t usually repeat posts here on the blog, but (like we reminded you earlier on today!) we’re hosting A POP-UP Mini Wedding Festival at The Bowdon Rooms next Sunday 26th February from 11am till 3pm, and we’re so excited that we wanted to remind you exactly how fabulous this versatile venue can be!
For any brides out there considering a vintage dress for your big day, today’s real wedding is likely to seal the idea as part of your plans. Just looking at today’s bride Anna in her unique vintage gown makes us go weak at the knees as she radiates such flawless beauty and elegance.
In line with her choice of attire, Anna’s wedding to beau Dan followed a vintage festival route with the ‘I dos’ and party taking place at one-of-a-kind venue, The Bowdon Rooms in Cheshire, with homemade décor to match.
Now, on with the pretty…

anna says: We got engaged in 2013 on a beach in Kefalonia. We’d spent the day sailing over to Ithaca on a little boat and then made a picnic to take down to our local beach. I had no idea it was on the cards until Dan suggested getting some fizz, and then I had an inkling!
We got married on 23rd August 2014. We chose the date because it was a bank holiday weekend and we wanted get the most out of our celebrations with a day-after party at my mum’s house.
Our wedding took place at The Bowdon Rooms in Cheshire. We chose it because it’s in the area I grew up, close to my mum’s house, old school and teenage drinking haunts! We really wanted a local feel to our wedding and The Bowdon Rooms really provided that. We actually made the decision to book it when we popped into the Brides Up North wedding fair there and saw how lovely the space could look. The fact we could decorate and personalise the space as much as we wanted was a big deciding factor and the team at The Bowdon Rooms really accommodated this – especially when helping us hang hundreds of paper pom poms!
We didn’t really have a theme but we knew we wanted to go colourful, instead of traditional white/cream. We also wanted to have seasonal wild flowers on the tables with a vintage, DIY kind of look so I guess that defined our theme. Our wedding invitation also lent itself to this as we worked with an illustrator called Ryn Frank, who specialises in flora and fauna designs, and designed us a beautiful illustrated wedding wreath for our invites.

Given that we’re super excited about our Brides Up North ‘Pop-up Wedfest’ at The Bowdon Rooms in Altrincham next Sunday 26th February, we thought it best to showcase how fabulous the venue is with a real wedding that made use of its versatile function space.
Craving a relaxed yet fun big day, bride and groom Hayley and Tim chose The Bowdon Rooms as the ideal venue for their evening reception following a low-key ceremony at Altrincham Town Hall.
Keen to stray away from tradition, the couple threw the ‘wedding rule book’ out of the window and made the day all about what suited them – from posh frocks, suits and Jimmy Choos to an informal afternoon tea, signature cocktails and one big evening party.
So ladies, if you like what you see be sure to come view The Bowdon Rooms for yourselves at our event between 11am and 3pm on Sunday 26th February, by registering here (Hayley and Tim did!)

hayley says: We got engaged on Christmas Eve 2015 at our local Italian restaurant Coco’s in Altrincham. It was totally unexpected as after us both being married before, we had pretty much ruled it out. Tim chose my favourite day of the year to propose and I was truly stunned! One of our daughter’s Amelia was with us on the evening and she screamed louder than I did!
We chose Friday 28th October 2016 for the wedding. I’m a little impatient and didn’t want to wait too long!
We got married at Altrincham Town Hall, which was beautiful, followed by pictures in Altrincham Market House, and afternoon tea and cocktails at the Sugar Junction in Altrincham. We for our evening reception by many more guests and partied the night away at the nearby Bowdon Rooms. We were very keen to have a low-key wedding, (despite going full out on the Justin Alexander gown and Jimmy Choo shoes of course!) and our day was truly perfect in every way.
With us both having been married before we very much wanted to shy away from tradition, so apart from posh frocks and a lovely suit, everything was kept very informal, hence the stand-up afternoon tea and cocktails! We did add just a touch of vintage styling.

We’re getting Monday off to an incredibly pretty start with this stunning Cheshire real wedding.
As huge fans of pastels so we’re totally in love with all the sweet & sugary tones incorporated into the décor, blooms and attire.
The bride and groom certainly steal the show (as they should!) with Jonathan opting for an alternative light blue suit and peach tie, while Nicola looks every inch the model bride in a fitted fishtail gown #hot!

nicola says: We got engaged at home in June 2014. The proposal came just before we were leaving for the airport to go on holiday to Egypt.
We set the date for 15th August 2015 as it would fall in the school holidays. We were also hoping that we would be in with a chance of sunshine at that time of year and we were keen to go on honeymoon in September.
Our venue was The Bowdon Rooms in Cheshire. We really liked the style, size and location of the building. The wedding planner there was also amazing from start to finish.
We chose a vintage theme for the wedding in line with the stunning venue and incorporated lots of flowers into the décor. Our colour scheme was pastels of peach, mint, powder blue and blush pink, which again went nice with the venue and also suited the time of year.

emma says: After 14 years together, Chris proposed to me while we were on a weekend away in the Lake District. He’d been to see my parents earlier in the week to ask my dad’s permission to marry me and also my dad was the keeper of the engagement ring. Both engagement and wedding rings were handed down to me from my grandparents.
Chris had originally planned to save the proposal until the evening, but as the day went on he became more anxious and knew he couldn’t last until then. So as we were unpacking our bags, I put the kettle on then Chris came out of the bathroom, got down on one knee and said “I’ve got something to ask you”. I said yes and we went on to have a fantastic weekend.
We set the date for August 30th 2014. We’d had in mind a wedding sometime between June and September to hopefully get some good weather and the date itself was picked due to our chosen venue’s availability.
The Bowdon Rooms in Altrincham, was the setting for our wedding reception. It’s a fantastic quaint Edwardian building with a ballroom inside and a fully sprung maple dance floor. One of the main criteria for our venue was that we wanted our guests, and obviously ourselves to have an unforgettable party, with great music and plenty of dancing. The ballroom gave us the space to make that possible. We had about 130 people there in total once the evening guests arrived and it was just an ideal space to fit everyone in. From booking the venue through to picking up all our belongings after the big day, the staff and organisers couldn’t have been any more helpful and catered for out every need. They helped make the day run so smoothly and were so accommodating. In particular our wedding co-ordinator Suzanne was just incredible and was on hand whenever we had any queries and gave so much support and advice.
