I’m extremely excited about our first ever luxury and vintage wedding exhibition in the North West – more specifically at The Bowdon Rooms in Altrincham, Cheshire – this coming Sunday 19th May 2013.

Last year, when sourcing a venue for our first North West show (it had to be perfect – something new to add to our portfolio of diverse venues, not too big, not too small, not too clichéd, and something a little bit unique).  I featured these images on the wedding blog as part of a styled shoot and knew that I had to get across to The Bowdon Rooms to talk to the team and see it for myself.  A castle venue this is not, but if you are looking for an authentic and friendly venue with a real vintage vibe, yet big enough to hold a proper party – this is for you.

Photo shoots are always an interesting proposition, but to make them different means moving away from the norm and searching for something new.  To do that, we thought we’d go back in time using the nostalgia of the late 50s and early 60s for inspiration – Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn et al : full of pearls and bling, versus the new trend from across the pond of  American kitsch, all juke boxes and polka dots.

Gathering together the right group of like minded fabulous professionals was easy – all ready to create a time gone by at The Bowdon Rooms, Cheshire.  An Edwardian dance hall full of history and atmosphere and an ideal venue for a wedding celebration with stylish ‘Downton Abbey’ era architecture and beautiful original features, to enhance any decorative theme.

On a bright sunny spring day Alex Davies Photography – our talented photographer – got to work  with our models : Suzi Sequin, who’s unique style was perfect for our ‘kitch’ look, and Gemma Davy, whose height and poise fitted perfectly with our glamour theme. Once the hair and makeup had been beautifully executed by the talented Fatima Vadia of Make Up Base, we started the marathon shoot of eight gorgeous dresses by Nicole at Pearl Bridal Boutique. These were wonderfully complemented by the accessories: feather fans, birdcage veils, hairpieces and corsages all by the extremely creative Laura Simpson at Laurel Weddings.

We began in the  upstairs Jazz Club of The Bowdon Rooms – ‘The Cinnamon Club’, where the dark walls, and cosy corners were a great backdrop for the dining table and chairs and ceremony area, which was dressed by Karen Finkill of Perfection On Linen.  Karen can accessorise and complement most colours with her choice chair covers, bows and fabulous table dressing.   To further enhance the atmosphere of the room, Swing and Jazz band, Dominic Halpin and the Honey B’s joined in the fun whilst Naomi Koop, Solo violinist wowed us with her skills, entering into the spirit of the shoot wearing her very own 1950s designed polka dot dress.

With each new look came the opportunity to introduce beautiful bouquets designed by Sarah of Barkers the Florist. Rich reds, pearly ivory and such pretty pinks.  Not forgetting the added delight of the wedding cakes , cupcakes and novel ice cream cakes, in many colours befitting each theme by Francesca at The Cheshire Cat Cake Company.

Moving downstairs to the more formal area, with tables again dressed to delight:  tall elegant table centres draped with pearls and orchids.  The sparkle of silver bows and the diamanté detail of the cakes added to the glamour. More fabulous dresses see the music stage come alive and the warm glow of the fireplace completes our inside shoot.

A quick peek outside, before the sun departs, sees a picnic ensue – with tea and cake, along with garden shots to end the day with the best of the afternoon sunlight.

All in all an fabulous fun day, with lots of clever and talented people creating beautiful photos to inspire, in a venue worthy of a fabulous wedding day.
