Today’s real wedding is one big party filled with all the things that the bride and groom love (as it should be, right?)
Taking place at The Bowdon Rooms in Altrincham, Chris and Emma have drawn on the vintage ballroom setting and complemented it with their striking choice of attire, décor and entertainment.
If you’d like to follow in their footsteps with a personal wedding in a truly unique venue that you can really make your own, then you must come along to our Luxury Wedding Exhibition this Sunday to view this fabulous venue for yourself. Better still, we’ll be joined by some of the area’s top suppliers to help take care of the all-important details too!

emma says: After 14 years together, Chris proposed to me while we were on a weekend away in the Lake District. He’d been to see my parents earlier in the week to ask my dad’s permission to marry me and also my dad was the keeper of the engagement ring. Both engagement and wedding rings were handed down to me from my grandparents.
Chris had originally planned to save the proposal until the evening, but as the day went on he became more anxious and knew he couldn’t last until then. So as we were unpacking our bags, I put the kettle on then Chris came out of the bathroom, got down on one knee and said “I’ve got something to ask you”. I said yes and we went on to have a fantastic weekend.
We set the date for August 30th 2014. We’d had in mind a wedding sometime between June and September to hopefully get some good weather and the date itself was picked due to our chosen venue’s availability.
The Bowdon Rooms in Altrincham, was the setting for our wedding reception. It’s a fantastic quaint Edwardian building with a ballroom inside and a fully sprung maple dance floor. One of the main criteria for our venue was that we wanted our guests, and obviously ourselves to have an unforgettable party, with great music and plenty of dancing. The ballroom gave us the space to make that possible. We had about 130 people there in total once the evening guests arrived and it was just an ideal space to fit everyone in. From booking the venue through to picking up all our belongings after the big day, the staff and organisers couldn’t have been any more helpful and catered for out every need. They helped make the day run so smoothly and were so accommodating. In particular our wedding co-ordinator Suzanne was just incredible and was on hand whenever we had any queries and gave so much support and advice.

With all the chocolate we’ve consumed over the weekend we’re all Easter-ed out and so are turning our thoughts to other bank holiday celebrations today, as we relive the wonderful Christmas wedding of Jo and David.
Following a festive engagement, today’s bride and groom decided December would be the perfect month in which to take their vows too. As a nod to the season, their romantic big day featured twinkling fairy lights, glittering baubles and shiny accessories, resulting in some super sparkly celebrations.
In case you’ve not heard, we will be hosting one of our fabulous Luxury Wedding Exhibitions at The Bowdon Rooms on Sunday 17th April, giving you the opportunity to see the fabulous venue for yourselves.

jo says: David proposed on Christmas morning 2014, it was a complete surprise. I had to follow clues around the house which led to different presents (including a jigsaw of the world and a Manchester City gnome!) and further clues until I found my engagement ring under the tree.
Our wedding was on 27th December 2015. It was 12 months following our engagement and we wanted a Christmas/winter wedding, so the date was perfect!
We were married at St Vincent’s RC Church in Altrincham. The wedding breakfast and reception was then held at The Bowdon Rooms. It was the only venue we looked at, and loved how it was one big room with a stage for the band. Also, the room could be decorated to suit whatever style we wanted.
When it came to the theme we were both very easy going – we just wanted a Christmas wedding and for the venue to be decorated for that time of year. To fit the season we chose a décor colour scheme of red and gold.

For those of you planning a vintage wedding, this morning’s bride Amy has lots of lovely inspiration to share.
Having set her heart on a vintage style dress and venue, Amy found exactly what she was looking for in Jenny Packham’s Damask gown and beautiful The Bowdon Rooms located in Altrincham, Cheshire.
From there an elegant colour scheme of blue followed (we just adore Amy’s blue shoes and nails) and she also incorporated a subtle music theme as a nod to one of her and Rob’s favourite pastimes.
For those that like the look and sound of The Bowdon Rooms, why not come along and see the stunning venue for yourself on Sunday 17th April during our Luxury Wedding Exhibition, which will feature the area’s top suppliers too!

amy says: Our engagement story isn’t the most romantic. Rob had been thinking about proposing for a while but instead of picking the right moment and setting, he got down on one knee whilst we stumbled home drunkenly from a party in the early hours. He did propose again in the morning though, just to make sure I remembered!
We set the date for 28th August 2015. We chose to have the wedding on a Friday at the start of the Bank Holiday so we could carry on the celebrations into the long weekend.
We had our ceremony at Manchester Town Hall, which we always knew we wanted as we both love the architecture. We then chose The Bowdon Rooms for the reception as we wanted somewhere that would complement the town hall with a vintage feel.
Our theme for the wedding was vintage and music. Our relationship blossomed from our love of the same kind of bands and going to gigs so we thought this would be fitting. The colour scheme was pastel blue, mainly because it’s my favourite colour, but also as it works with the ‘something blue’ tradition in weddings.

Beg, steal and borrow is the main advise from this afternoon’s bride who achieved her dream wedding without breaking the bank.
Having found their perfect wedding venue in the form of The Bowdon Rooms in Cheshire, today’s real wedding couple Justine and Darren, set about planning a classy wedding with Art Deco influences, spending the budget on what they felt were the most important elements and then making, blagging and bartering what remained.
Here at Brides Up North HQ we’re more than familiar with just how fabulous this unique wedding venue is as we stage our luxury wedding exhibitions in its stylish surroundings twice a year (the next one is coming up on 17th April 2016, so put it in your dairies!) Excellent choice Justine and Darren!

justine says: Darren proposed to me in Barcelona. We had booked the trip for his birthday and knowing our finances inside out I knew there was no way he had an engagement ring. We arrived late to our hotel and were given a beautiful suite with a balcony but it was past midnight and we couldn’t get any alcoholic drinks as we just planned to have a little drink on our veranda. We trekked the darkened street and I used my broken Spanish to ask for crisps and a bottle of rose in a kebab shop. Having conquered the quest for booze – we went back to the balcony where I sat munching cheesy puffs, Darren disappeared into the room saying he was going to hang his clothes up (he’s never done that before). Then he appeared around the curtain holding a beautiful carved wooden ring box and said “I’ve got something you can wear if you like, but you’ll have to wear it for a long time” he then knelt in a puddle and asked me to marry him revealing my dream ring – a bright sapphire flanked by two diamonds which he had designed and made for me. I was in absolute shock that he had managed to hide it all – and of course I said yes.
On wedding was on 5th April 2015. We picked Easter Sunday as we felt the majority of our friends and family would be able to make it and enjoy the festivities over a bank holiday weekend. We were willing to gamble the weather and it paid off with glorious sunshine following a week of hail and snow!
The Bowdon Rooms, in Cheshire, was our chosen venue. The moment we walked in to The Bowdon Rooms, I knew it was for us. Our co-ordinator and every single member of staff made us feel like a priority. They worked with us on whatever budget I proposed, whatever idea I was exploring with the most genuine enthusiasm. The building is a 1930s music hall with glorious ballroom and jazz club upstairs, it has an unpretentious elegance and wow factor whilst remaining individual and suited us completely. I wouldn’t change my venue for all the tea in china and know how lucky I was to have the staff around me as wonderful as they are there.

One of my favourite ever scenes in Friends (hey, I’m a big fan!) is the one where Monica, Rachel and Phoebe head to the NYC dress sale to search for Monica’s dream wedding dress. Issued with whistles by the ever competitive Monica to attract attention if they locate the gown, the girls split up. A frenzied scene results in a tussle over tulle and Jennifer Aniston cowering under a rail of frocks, using her whistle to sound the search alarm.
Girls, now’s your chance to unleash your inner Monica.
Our North East readers are sorted for this weekend’s plans, but Cheshire ladies… clear your calendar.
The big north sample sale is brought to you by three leading bridal boutiques in the North-West – Agapé Bridal Boutique, Love Bridal Boutique and The White Closet, and will be held at one of Cheshire’s most popular and one of Brides Up North’s own favourite wedding venues (we’ll be here a month later for our fabulous Luxury & Vintage Wedding Exhibition), The Bowdon Rooms this Sunday 22nd February 2015.
This is the first collaboration of its kind in the North West, developed by three innovative boutiques who had the idea of bringing a host of leading bridal designers together all under one roof for Northern brides-to-be, offering a broad selection of bridal gown styles at amazing discounted prices.
Usually, a bridal boutique would host their own individual sample sale event meaning only a limited amount of brides are able to attend, with a smaller selection of dresses to choose from. The three boutiques involved pride themselves on being in tune with their brides, and knowing that the average bride likes to view a number of designers before making their final dress decision, what better way to present a sample sale than to bring the crème de la crème of bridal designers together for one exclusive event! The Big North Sample Sale allows a larger number of brides to attend and choose from a wide variety of fabulous gowns and designers.
With a collection of much sought after designers including Jenny Packham, Alan Hannah, Temperley London, Charlotte Balbier, Stephanie Allin, Stewart Parvin, Claire Pettibone, Amanda Wakeley, Terry Fox, Raimon Bundo, Ian Stuart and many many more, and with dresses available from £100 to £1700, this event is going to be seriously popular. There will also be a selection of accessories on offer too and some bridesmaid gowns. Savvy brides who know their designers, and appreciate great quality gowns will be in their element with dresses for sale at a fraction of the price. This event will also suit brides who have a shorter timescale to find their dress and whose only option may be to buy ‘off the rail’. Sample dress sizes range from 8-14.
all gowns featured are available to buy at the event
Brides will have the opportunity to try on gowns at the event, choosing a maximum of 2 at a time. There will be dedicated changing areas (predominantly communal changing areas with some private changing areas available too) and lots of mirrors around the venue. Brides are encouraged to wear nude underwear and also bring a pair of heels of the height they are thinking of wearing on their wedding day. Bridal experts from each boutique will also be on hand to offer any advice on any alterations required, recommended seamstress contacts, dry cleaning etc (alterations and dry cleaning are not included in the dress price) There is a strict girls only policy at the event too!
Payment for dresses will be by cash or card (Visa, Mastercard or Maestro).
