The Editorials: “Its All In The Detail”

It’s time for another online/ offline catch up folks.  The Editorials is a series I run occasionally here on the wedding blog, bringing the offline bridal freelance writing that I do on a monthly basis for numerous glossy magazines online.

“It’s All In The Detail” was a piece penned by moi and first published in National Glossy, Wedding Magazine as a part of my Trend Alert series of columns (although it’s contents have been tweeted a few times since then)!  I hope it inspires you to accessorise wisely…

Its All In The Detail

I said:  No longer content with just the church, dress and swish wheels, trendsetting brides and grooms are thinking outside the box when it comes to the finer details of their big day.

This isn’t about following the crowd and installing a job lot of teacups, typewriters and the prerequisite bird cage table centres, but selecting unique props and decorating details that say something about the your individual tastes and interests and using them as a backdrop to your celebration.

A plan is essential. It’s all too easy to get carried away at the car boot sales and lose sight of your initial vision. This isn’t an episode of ‘Don’t Tell The Bride’. Before the great rummage begins, consider your theming carefully and arm yourself with a wish list to avoid expensive mistakes. Consider enlisting the services of a prop hire or event styling specialist who will help you to bring more ambitious ideas to life.

A Personal Touch

Whatever decorating details you add to your big day, the most effective schemes will be those that really mean something to you as a couple. Travel mad? Vintage suitcases, picture postcards and grand old maps in place of table runners can add nostalgia and romance to your celebration. Love cycling? How about a bicycle made for two?

Go Large

Some of the more popular grand schemes like festival or circus themed weddings need commitment to work. If in doubt, add bulk and colour – reams of rainbow streamers or paper pompoms en masse are a cheaper alternative to filling the room with flowers, and in some scenarios more definitely is more!

Chiconomics

Before embarking on a decorating extravaganza, remember to do your sums. Props and detailing should really be somewhere near the bottom of your budget and an optional extra rather than essential expense. Decide what’s more important to you – 100 Greek urns or your Santorini honeymoon (and I’m not judging!) and budget accordingly.

Nothing For The Sake Of It

Often, the most stylish weddings are the simplest affairs. Don’t feel pressured to over-style your day if a themed celebration just isn’t your bag. You can still add personal touches with your favourite flowers, photographs of loved ones or a carefully chosen playlist.

Tie Me Up In A Ribbon! Supplier Showcase: Chair Covers North West PLUS 15% DISCOUNT For Brides Up North Readers!

February 16th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Pick a colour, any colour!  This afternoon, it’s down to the details.  High level advice and inspirational wedding pretty is all very well and good (and you’ll find a lot of it here!), but sometimes you just want to know where to get things from, don’t you?  Good old Northern practicality!

.

Well, here’s one job you can tick off your list,  as we speak to suppliers of sashes in every colour of the rainbow, Chair Covers North West.  Plus, once you’ve found your perfect match, there’s a tidy little discount especially for Brides Up North readers.

.

Gift wrapping doesn’t get any better! (Oh, unless its on a stack of wedding presents with your name on of course…)

.

Tell Brides Up North about Chair Covers North West, your team and the service that you provide?

.

Chair Covers North West was set up by my wife and I in July 2010 whilst we were arranging our own wedding.  We were our own first customer!  We decided to set up a simple to run and use business offering spandex chair covers and sashes at low prices and also give brides the option of paying for set up or saving those all important pennies and setting up themselves.

.

.

What products can you supply for hire?

.

We currently supply chair covers, sashes and table runners but will also soon be offering table cloths and napkins.

.

.

.

.

What colours are available in your products?

.

Literally any colour that is needed when it comes to sashes.  We can get most colours for covers, but all our jobs to date have been white, ivory or black covers.

.

.

What sets your business apart from other event dressing companies?

.

From what our customers have told us, our prices are generally the best but also how quick we are responding to enquiries and questions.  We never leave our customers hanging on waiting for answers.

.

.

What can a Bride & Groom who book you to dress their wedding expect?

.

A professional, reliable service where they will never feel any stress with the arrangements.  We will generally liaise a lot with the venue on times/dates and extra details so the bride can forget about at least one thing!

.

.

What if a Bride & Groom want to do the dressing themselves?

.

A lot of customers do choose this option to save some money.  We will deliver the covers to the couple on a day that is convenient, and collect also when is convenient.  For most jobs we won’t even charge a delivery fee.

.

.

What areas do you cover?  Will you travel?

.

We cover the entire UK due to the fact we have agents all over the UK willing to help with dressing jobs.  The vast majority of our work does come from the North West though, we feel that is because of the company name!

.

.

Can you give Brides Up North an idea on price?

.

Standard price is £2 per cover including the sash.  This can be lower for larger orders of course.  Setup fees (if required) range from £30-£60 depending on volume/location.

.

.

Can you do a discount for Brides Up North readers?

.

Absolutely!  We would be happy to offer a 15% discount to Brides Up North readers, they just have to simply quote "Brides Up North".

.

.

Anything else that Brides Up North should know?

.

We are ranked 1st out of 350 chair covers hire companies on the Business Directory ‘Free Index’ – this is down to our dedication to perfection, professionalism and above all reliability.  Around 20% of our jobs last year were last minute orders where couples had been let down by their chair cover supplier.

.

.

Finally… Why do you read and like Brides Up North?

.

We like Brides Up North because it all feels very "real"!  All the info on there is actually useful for brides and it is so user friendly unlike a lot of similar sites.
