Ribble Rocks! A Real Wedding In The North West – Melanie & Jimmy

July 26th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

A Real Wedding in Lancashire by Classic Wedding Photography

.

.

Morning all!  Is it Thursday already?!  This week is going by in an absolute flash for me! We are super busy here at Brides Up North HQ putting the finishing touches on our bridal shows for Autumn 2012.  Do you have these dates in your diaries ladies?

.

.

YORKSHIRE Nostell Priory, Wakefield – Sunday 2nd September 2012 (Wedding Exclusive)

.
NORTH EAST Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham – Sunday 9th September 2012 (Super Showcase)

.
YORKSHIRE Allerton Castle, North Yorkshire – Sunday 16th September 2012 (Wedding Exclusive)
.

YORKSHIRE The Mansion, Roundhay, Leeds – Sunday 7th October 2012 (Wedding Exclusive)

.
YORKSHIRE Rise Hall, Rise, East Yorkshire – Sunday 21st October 2012 (Wedding Exclusive)

.

(North West, I’m working on it!)

.

.

You can contact me now to pre-register for a VIP Bride-to-be goody bag and speedy entry to the events.  Even better, goody bag sponsor Clarins Skin Spa has just confirmed that they will be giving away a luxury hamper of Clarins products to one of our visiting brides.  That’ll surely get your wedding preparations off to a beautiful start!  Don’t delay, make sure that you are on our VIP guest list.

.

As well as being knee deep in event planning, I have also been hitting more freelance press deadlines (you can see some of my recent features by clicking here), been out and about meeting with new Brides Up North venues (details of new shows for 2013 coming soon!) and interviewing some really fabulous Featured Suppliers for these blog pages.  I am more committed than ever to shouting about Northern talent and am really working hard behind the scenes to raise editorial quality levels here on the wedding blog. No wonder time is flying by!

.

One thing’s for certain though, things are looking no less beautiful on these pages, and today we share Brides Up North reader and real bride Melanie’s Ibiza inspired Real Wedding in the Ribble Valley, with images supplied by Classic Wedding Photography.  Who needs the Balearics when we’ve got Lancashire, eh?

.

Melanie says: We got engaged on 26th March 2011 in our favourite restaurant San Carlo.  It was such a shock as we were in Manchester just celebrating our 10 year anniversary.  Jimmy had managed to secretly hand over the ring to Dario the restaurant manager for safe keeping whilst we were in there enjoying a few afternoon drinks with family. As we said our goodbyes, everyone apart from me knew that Jimmy would propose that evening!

.

We arrived at the restaurant and shown to one of the best tables, I was blissfully unaware of what was going to happen. Jimmy’s sister had even hidden herself round the corner with friends waiting for him to pop the question!

.

After our meal a very nice bottle of champagne arrived at the table and then Jimmy got down on one knee!

The whole of San Carlo erupted in applause!  It was such an emotional moment; I cried so much my false eyelashes came off!

We got married at 12 noon on 29th April 2012 at Mitton Hall in the Ribble Valley.  I had been to a few venues around the area on trips out with my Mum and Aunties but none stood out as much as Mitton Hall.

.

I just loved the smell of the log fires, feeling warm and cosy as soon as you entered the building.  There were huge chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and it had so much character. It also had that old rustic feel to it but with very modern décor at the same time.  I also loved how the décor fitted my colour theme perfectly!

.

To top it all off, the staff were wonderful and very attentive.  Dave the Master of Ceremonies ran the day with military precision and everything was perfect. A massive thank you to Dave!

We had an Ibiza theme to our wedding, with an ivory and deep purple colour scheme.

.

Jimmy’s very good friend helped us design and create the Ibiza vibe, starting with our club flyer style wedding invitations.  They looked amazing! His ideas flowed throughout the day. The same layout was copied for the wedding breakfast menus and our table names were all our favourite Ibiza venues!

My Maggie Sottero dress came from Bliss Bridal Centre in Bolton.  What made my dress shopping experience so special was that as soon as I walked in I was greeted by a lovely smile, one I recognised from years ago! It was one of my old friends Anisa.  It was great to catch up with her as I made my way through the many beautiful dresses in her shop!  She was lovely, helpful and also very patient as after only trying on three dresses I thought I’d made my mind up, only to be back in the shop a week later trying another fifteen!  Girls you’ve got to get the right one!

.

My bridesmaids wore floor length aubergine purple dresses by Alfred Angelo also from Bliss Bridal Centre in Bolton.

.

.

.

Jimmy and the guys wore suits from a local suit shop, John Francis in Harwood, Bolton. They all looked so smart and handsome!

.

.

.

.

The fantastic beauty team consisted of Debra Schofield (makeup) and Cassie (hair): they transformed me into a beautiful bride.

I carried a beautiful arrangement of pale pink pacific blue, akito and cerce roses with purple hyacinth, veronica purple and salal tips by Lesley Thomas Flowers.  I had so many fabulous comments about my bouquet and I cant thank Lesley enough!

.

The bridesmaids carried akito roses and eucalyptus leaves edged with salal tips.

North West award winning photographers Dave and Jane from Classic Photography became more like our new best friends, we had a fab afternoon doing an engagement shoot and chose a picture from the shoot to be mounted and put in a frame.  All our guests signed it on the day.   They worked their magic on the day too by giving us these stunning shots and I cannot recommend them enough!

.

Mike Roberts our videographer filmed our amazing day and now we can re-live our memories forever.

We had very simple candelabra on the tables with classy ivory chair covers and matching linen provided by Mitton Hall.  I chose to have name tags attached to purple ribbon instead of name plates as the purple ribbon matched the bridesmaids dresses.  These were made by a local stationary shop in Horwich, Ivy Cottage Cards who also did a beautiful post-box for all our wedding cards decorated with the same colour ribbon and diamantes.

.

Our cake was a gift off my Grandma, making it extra special! It was delicious!

.

.

A Real Wedding in Lancashire by Classic Wedding Photography    A Real Wedding in Lancashire by Classic Wedding Photography

.

.

The room was decorated with hearts as it’s a theme I love and is shared by all the female members of my family!  Mum and Dad have the hearts that dangled from the candelabra on their wardrobe door handles.

Hearts that were on the top table are hanging proud in the homes of all my Aunties and Grandma so it’s lovely to go round and see a part of my wedding still alive in their houses!

.

We had a craft evening where my Mum, Grandma and Aunties helped fold, stick and fill favour boxes. I loved having all my family involved with wedding planning; they were just as excited as I was!

.

.

A Real Wedding in Lancashire by Classic Wedding Photography

.

.

We kept our guests entertained after the ceremony with Tony the magician from Towards Magic.

.

In the evening we had a band called Psycho Slinkys who they played a great range of popular music to suit all our guests. Our good friend Stuart DJ’d late on into the night playing all our Ibiza classics, we couldn’t have been happier!

We honeymooned at The Royal in Cancun Mexico. It was out of this world!

.

.

.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to take a few days off before the wedding for relaxing, pampering and finalising arrangements before the big day.  My family and I chose to stay in a beautiful barn conversion near to Mitton Hall called Brown Hills Cottages a few days before the wedding. It was nice to be around my whole family. The views were stunning and it was totally memorable.

Let’s DO This! Now Open For VIP Bride To Be Registration!

July 2nd, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Brides Up North Super Showcase Autumn 2012

.

.

You might have noticed some changes to the wallpaper at the top of the blog over the past few days (see that big pink banner up there?!), and I am thrilled to announce that our Autumn season of Brides Up North events for brides to be – that’s you – across Yorkshire and the North East are now officially open for VIP Bride-To-Be registration!

.

The last Brides Up North Super Showcase at Ramside Hall and Wedding Exclusives at Dine Venues this Spring were such fabulous, inspiration packed events – and all complete sell outs on exhibitor space with a record attendance for each and every venue.

.

I so loved meeting each and every bride and groom who came through the doors at the venues and seeing how excited and inspired you all were after each event.  I received so many lovely emails of thanks from readers and exhibitors afterwards – it was all a little mind blowing (and after five shows back to back left me feeling overwhelmed and that I needed a long lie down in a dark room!).

.

The fact that so many of you took the time to contact me to say what great days you had absolutely made the six long months of planning and hard graft that went into each event totally worthwhile, and lots of you were asking when we could do it all again.

.

Well, now we can!  We have another full line up of shows at all our venues this Autumn, with some new venues being added in 2013 (and North West?  I haven’t forgotten about you!).  I can’t wait to do it all again, and with a huge press interest and excitement at an all time high, I have a feeling that these shows are going to be better than ever!

.

The dates confirmed and now open for VIP Bride-To-Be Registration are as follows.  Remember – these are the only shows this year actually being coordinated by Brides Up North!  Accept no imitations, and get them in your diaries!

Hello? Is me you’re looking for? A Recap, & A Nomination!

March 5th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Hello?  Is it me you’re looking for?

.

.

.

.

I’m waking up this morning on a high following yesterday’s in the North East!  Oh what a circus, oh what a show!  There was a lot of love in the air as over 100 exhibitors pulled together to make the event a fabulous success.  Thank you to each and every one of you!

.

The final count is yet to be taken, but well over 300 brides and nearly 1,000 people turned out to browse, chat, book, taste, try and watch two fantastic professional fashion shows with dresses from some of the North East’s top boutiques.  One of my exhibitors told me that it was the best show they had attended in seven years!  Wow, that just floors me.

.

So what an amazing turnout!  Thanks to all you lovely Brides Up North I ended the day with a glass of champagne and a happy heart (shortly after being interviewed by Sky TV!).

.

If you follow me on Twitter I have been retweeting some of the lovely comments about the day.

.

A full blog post with some snapshots from the day will follow soon, but for now:  North East – you are fabulous! The Northern Revolution is in full swing.

.

.

.

.

Then… to top of a thoroughly fabulous weekend for this – after VERY many thoroughly unfabulous weekends stuck behind a computer screen whilst all my friends and family were at play – I got a little email that put an even bigger smile on my face!

.

Turns out that your good selves, my readers and sponsors, have been talking about me behind my back…

.

You’ve only gone and gotten me nominated for an award!

.

I am thrilled to have been shortlisted in the Best Wedding Directory category of The Bridal Magazine Awards 2012.  Thank you so much.

.

.

Wedding Directory

.

.

I really consider Brides Up North to be a wedding blog first and foremost, with the Wedding Directory being a neat little add on to help connect my readers to the best regional suppliers, but I work extremely hard to maintain the quality of both sides of the site, so it’s lovely to see the more business based side of Brides Up North getting some recognition!

.

.

Bridal Magazine

.

.

There is just under a week left to vote, so it would absolutely make my Monday if you could take a few minutes to vote for Brides Up North.

.

You can do so by clicking here, going to the Best Directory Category and casting your vote.  You do need to leave a few registration details but after that, it’s smooth sailing.

.

We’ll find out who takes home the gong in just over a month’s time.

.

That’s all for now – I’m off for a lie down! – but check back this afternoon for a styled shoot that is utter gorgeousness personified!  This week is all about looking forward rather than back, and after a few wallpaper changes and some beautiful features that I just can’t wait to share, it rather feels like spring has arrived.

Where To Start? Top Tips For Navigating & Making The Most Of Wedding Fairs

March 1st, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

So, it can’t have escaped your notice that the largest free bridal event in the North East is this Sunday at Ramside Hall Hotel, and that Brides Up North is at the helm, can it?  (If it has, click here for all the details of the Brides Up North Super Showcase Wedding Exhibition).

.

When I was a bride to be, I LOVED attending wedding fairs – the hustle and bustle, the masses of wedding inspiration, brand new ideas, the gowns, the bling, the freebies and the general feeling of happiness and excitement floating through the air.  I can hardly believe that the Brides Up North brand has grown so much that I am now throwing my own massive event – and it feels like one big fabulous party!

.

I’m bursting with excitement about the weekend, but I know that as well as being a lot of fun, wedding exhibitions need to serve their purpose too.  This event is primarily about assisting you lovely ladies with the wedding planning process and grouping together as many fabulous local suppliers in one area as possible for you to chat to.  There is something for everyone on Sunday – from boho brides to pretty princesses, cool customers and vintage vixens, and it’s all under one roof.

.

I also understand that 100+ stands over two huge function rooms is a lot to take in.  How to prioritise your time and get the most from the event.  From experience, I tend to waft around dashing from pretty thing to pretty thing, touching and trying and oohing and ahhing, so my advice on this is pretty useless.  To assist, I’ve called in one of Sunday’s exhibitors and wedding exhibition connoisseur Mark of Mobeus Jewellers, who’ll lead you through the labyrinth of lovely!

.

.

.

.

So lets hear form this seasoned exhibitor, fabulous jeweller and all round nice guy about how to make the most of wedding exhibitions and get the best results from your day out.

.

Better meet the man himself first…

.

.

How many wedding exhibitions have you attended Mark?

.

I have been exhibiting at wedding fairs for at least 10 years so it must be dozens over the years, if not hundreds.

.

.

Why are wedding fairs important to Mobeus Jewellers?

.

At a fair, we can get right to that target audience, often meeting hundreds of people in a day who would not normally visit our shop. That’s extremely valuable for anyone supplying the wedding industry.

.

We get the chance to meet people who want to have a chat about their ideas for wedding and engagement rings. Some people have a bit of an idea what they would like as a wedding ring but haven’t seen what they are after. We are able to take their ideas and make them into their own personal designs.

.

.

How do you make the most of wedding exhibitions?

.

A lot of people are quite shy at first when they visit the stall, so we just ask them some simple questions to get the conversation going. We’re never pushy and just like to get a feel for the couple and what they are after as sometimes it’s hard to describe in words.

.

We see all the different groups – the brides and mums, the gangs of girls together and some blokes who look like they have been dragged along kicking and screaming – but they love it when they get there!

.

.

.

.

Here are Mark’s top tips for making the most of wedding fair season:

.

HEARTPrioritise what is important to you

.

It’s going to be very difficult to get round every stall, so decide before you get there what you want to get out of the exhibition. People often forget about the permanent things from the wedding such as the photography and rings and instead concentrate on the flowers and table designs. That’s fine if that’s your priority, but make sure there’s enough in the budget for the things that will last.

.

.

HEARTFind a supplier you can relate to

.

It’s your wedding, so you need someone who can understand your ideas and what you really want. That’s particularly important when choosing your wedding dress and rings. If you can relate to your supplier and get on well with them, they are really going to work well for you.

.

.

HEARTGet at least three quotes

.

Find something you like, think about it and then get another quote. There are a lot of big decisions to be made when choosing things for your wedding so don’t rush in. Sleep on things – your suppliers will still be there the day after the exhibition. And don’t always go for the cheapest price, look for something you really want and work with your supplier to get the right deal.

.

.

HEARTVisit other fairs

.

As well as visiting fairs at your venue or the larger ones in your area, it’s probably worthwhile getting outside of your immediate region to meet different suppliers – they may have the exact thing you’re looking for.

Only Four More Sleeps! (Or Make That No Sleeps)…

February 29th, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

This wedding blog post comes to you a little later than scheduled as I’ve been out styling a shoot and running around the wilds of Sheffield for these very pages with some lovely industry friends of mine… India Hobson Photography, Ashley Tyrrell Make Up Artist and Jane Elviss of Pashmina Rainbow

.

I’m lucky that I found the time to get out to play with pretty things, as I’m working 24-7, round the clock and through the night (quite literally!) at the moment preparing for the Brides Up North Super Showcase Grand Wedding Exhibition THIS VERY SUNDAY at Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham.

.

I’m blown away by the level of support that this exhibition has received from the finest in the North East Wedding Industry and the show is a COMPLETE SELL OUT, with OVER 100 of the region’s best decking out two massive function rooms at the venue from 12pm – 4pm on Sunday.

.

What’s even better is that the event is TOTALLY FREE to enter, and you can bring along as many guests as you like.  In fact, this is the largest free bridal event in the North East.  Wowsers!

.

So large in fact, that SKY Channel 201 have asked if they can come along to film it for their new show My Romantic Wedding, and Don’t Tell The Bride are using the wedding exhibition as a hunting ground for new brave grooms to be.  To put this into perspective, the last show that the production team from My Romantic Wedding visited was The National Wedding Show!

.

Soooooo… excuse me for being just a little bit excited… and in a quandary about what to wear!
