Diary Date: The Sage Gateshead Elite Wedding Show

We are elated as ever after our headline North East show of the season here at Brides Up North HQ – the Brides Up North Super Showcase Grand Wedding Exhibition at Ramside Hall Hotel. I was so excited for this event (I may have just mentioned it just once or twice!) but it turns out that something even more exciting was about to happen in my personal life! So, whilst I was tucked up at home with my brand new baby (all together now, ahh!, and more news soon), my events team were up to something really special.

Reports from the front line tell me that it was another absolutely fantastic day, the venue packed to the rafters with amazing local exhibitors (almost 100 of ‘em) and excited brides and grooms. Once again, to everyone involved, thank you for your unwavering support and enthusiasm. Month upon month of planning goes into making sure these shows are the best of the best, with a focus on local talent, so the lovely feedback that I have received by email last night and this morning from happy exhibitors and visitors really does make my heart sing.

You know we’ll back in the Autumn of course, so put Sunday September 8th 2013 firmly in those diaries, and if you are a potential exhibitor who wants to join in the fun (and this little Northern Revolution that we have on our hands) – you know where to find me!

Brides Up North On Tour: See You This Weekend Newcastle!

Occasionally (ok, really quite often – I’m not really one for sitting still) I like to get out from behind my computer screen and head out into the big wide World to meet up with my readers and industry friends. The online space is great for gathering inspiration, ideas and leads, but there’s nothing like meeting people in person or touching, trying and tasting.

Basically, I want to know what I’m talking about, ensure that the content on this blog remains relevant, real and useful to my readers – hello there! – and make Brides Up North as accessible as possible. I’m always only an email away (get in touch – I can point you in the right direction and put you in touch with the right people for almost any wedding query), but there’s nothing like a good in person chinwag, is there?

That’s why I (and my little team) take such time and effort to plan and produce the best (we think!) bridal exhibitions and wedding industry networking events across the regions, so that our readers and industry friends can connect in an environment jam packed with talent and innovation. And it’s also why I choose to support selected industry partners at their bridal events across the North.

The UK Wedding Shows at Metro Arena

This weekend I’m heading to Newcastle to join my friends at The UK Wedding Shows (and watch out for me at their first ever conference later in the year!) for a weekend of wedding wonders at their big Metro Arena event on the banks of the River Tyne this weekend, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th January 2013, from 10am – 5pm every day. Come and find the Brides Up North team at stand 119, where we’ll be on hand for all the wedding tips and advice that you could ever need – just ask – and giving away some special Brides Up North goodies. It would be lovely to meet you, so drop by to say hola!

Dandy Events Inspirational Wedding Weekend

We’ll also be dropping in over the weekend to see our great friends and supporters Dandy Events at their inspirational showroom event on the Scotswood Road. This is just a stone’s throw from the Metro Arena, so if you are popping into that show, give your groom some sugar and make sure to visit Denise and her team too.

Diary Dates: It’s One Busy Week In Wedding Land!

My goodness, it’s a jam packed week for brides to be right across the North this week. I have events to tell you about in the North East, North West and Yorkshire – and they are big ones too. Get ready for a bumper week of bridal action and make sure to factor in some recovery time before the Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Fair at The Mansion the week after (did you see this morning’s post? This is one for the fashionistas, and VIP Bride to be registration is now open! Exciting times!).

Now back to this week. I’ve already told you all about etc Magazine’s wedding show at the gorgeous Rockliffe Hall this coming weekend haven’t I? Click here for more details. But did you know that the fun starts even before that?

The sun may absolutely be refusing to shine this summer but we are still off to the seaside this Friday morning on the wedding blog. This fun bridal photo shoot in the North East seaside town of Redcar was sent to me by Natalie of Brides & Dreams.

And as you are calling by these swirly silver pages in your thousands on a daily basis (and have you joined the fun over on Facebook and Twitter too?) lets try a group exercise in positive thinking: think sunny thoughts, think sunny thoughts. If enough of us will it to happen, it’s bound to, right?

Natalie says: I organised this shoot to promote the Redcar wedding industry to encourage brides to use local businesses instead of going out of town. Alongside the shoot I have organised a Wedding Fayre at Redcar Racecourse to bring the town a wedding show to be proud of (it’s set to be Redcar’s biggest wedding event to date) and show people what a spectacular venue they have on their doorstep for weddings!

North East Dream Venue: Blackfriars Banquet Hall – Wedding Fair Next Weekend!

If you are a North East bride to be looking for a special venue for an intimate celebration, look no further than Brides Up North’s latest Featured Supplier, Blackfriars, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Blackfriars Banquet Hall

A brand new North East wedding fair is taking place at Blackfriars’ Banquet Hall next weekend to showcase the venue and to offer brides and grooms lots of inspiration for their big day. Blackfriars’ Banquet Hall dates back from 1239 when it was the celebrated venue used by King Edward III for receiving royal Scot, Edward Balliol, in 1334. In 2011 it was restored by the restaurant owner Andy Hook to bring it back to its former glory and it can now cater for weddings for up to 50 people. The venue has also just been granted its civil license to hold weddings on the premises.

The Banquet Hall is decorated with authentic banners, chandeliers, wall coverings and stained-glass windows, and furnishings include large oak communal dining tables and matching chairs. Guests can also enjoy the enclosed courtyard for pre-event Champagne and canapés or they can move across to the restaurant later on in the day if they prefer.

Blackfriars Restaurant

Although Blackfriars is a medieval venue, couples can theme the day in any way they prefer. Andy Hook, owner of Blackfriars, says: “We offers brides and grooms a truly unique setting in which to celebrate their big day in the heart of the city and we hope our first bridal event will showcase all we have to offer. In particular we are taking bookings for this year so if customers fancy a spontaneous engagement and a wedding on the same day we are the ideal place. We also have a dedicated wedding co-ordinator to ensure the day runs smoothly.”

The wedding fair will be held on Sunday May 13th from 12 noon to 4pm and visitors will be treated to Champagne and canapés to sample the food on offer at Blackfriars as well as 10% discount on food if they book their wedding on that day. Admission is free.

Local companies will be on hand to give help and advice on every aspect of a wedding reception from table decorations to entertainment, flowers, stationery, wedding cakes, jewellery, photography, wedding and bridal outfits as well as live demonstrations and a fashion show from Eve and Adam wedding dress hire.

Blackfriars only hosts one wedding reception on a given day and to help ease the pressure on the couple, the venue also has close links with its recommended wedding fair suppliers for flowers, cakes and photographers, some of which will be at the show.
