Great Gatsby! Supplier Showcase: 1920’s Inspired Bridal Headpieces From Irene & Ozzie

January 8th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Holly Edwards for Irene & Ozzie

My philosophy is very simple.  I want each bride to be excited about wearing their Irene and Ozzie piece on their wedding day.

Today I’m very proud to introduce you to super talented Brides Up North Featured Supplier Emma, the exquisite bridal jewellery designer behind the beautiful brand Irene & Ozzie, as she showcases her latest pieces in this stunning Great Gatsy inspired shoot.

I have a feeling that hits to Emma’s website might be just a little up today!  And over you go

Holly Edwards for Irene & Ozzie

Tell us a little bit about yourself – the designer behind Irene & Ozzie?

My Name is Emma Gore,  I live in Chester with my husband Karl.  I’ve been a wedding jewellery designer for eight years.  Being a part of someone’s wedding day, however small, is to me a huge privilege. It adds meaning to my work. It’s the thought that ‘this piece is going to be treasured’. It will probably be folded carefully into the tissue paper and put away in the back of the wardrobe for safe keeping. Brought out, every year on an anniversary or maybe just the odd occasion when the bride is feeling nostalgic. What really makes me smile though, is the thought of a little girl trying on a headband I’ve designed, and saying ‘I love this mummy can I wear this on my wedding day?’.

Call me a hopeless romantic, go on its OK; I’ll admit it I am but this is why I design. People often say ‘wow, I just wouldn’t have the patience to do that’. Well, this is what motivates me and why I have the patience to make each piece perfect. Cheesy, yep absolutely, totally true, definitely (ask anyone I know).

Holly Edwards for Irene & Ozzie

Tell us about Irene & Ozzie and how it all began?  Who are Irene & Ozzie?

Irene and Ozzie was previously called Frill.  I embarked on a full rebrand at the end of last year.  For me, one of my biggest inspirations were my grandparents Irene and Ozzie. They were two people who really lived up to their marriage vows. They were together through thick and thin, raised four children and only separated when death parted them. This is extremely inspirational to me. I hope my marriage is as successful.

They also separately helped spark my imagination and sowed the seeds for my career. My grandma would let me root through her jewellery box full of wondrously sparkly things and I would spend hours dressing up in all her finery. She also showed me how to sew. Having lived through the war, she was fantastic at anything like that.

Granddad would teach me how to make things in his shed. It didn’t really matter that I wasn’t a boy, he didn’t discriminate. Working with his hands was granddad’s passion. He loved his garden and I’m pretty sure he could make anything.

Between the two, they had a lot to do with my chosen career path and I wish they were alive, so I could tell them how much they inspired me. I will have to settle for naming my company after them. Here’s to you Irene and Ozzie.

What bridal accessories are available to buy at Irene & Ozzie?

We sell handmade, one of a kind headdresses and jewellery.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from so many different places, old movies, vintage stores, magazines.  Recently though I have to admit I have become mildly addicted to Pinterest. An online moodboard, why didn’t I think of that? I am a very visual person and I think this why it’s worked its way firmly into my life and business.

What bridal accessory trends have been popular in 2013 and what trends do you see emerging in 2014 and beyond?

I think the 1920’s trend was starting to emerge towards the end of 2013 sparked by the film The Great Gatsby.  This trend will be around for 2014 with big dress designers bringing out their 20’s inspired dresses. I also think lace headbands, hair vines and blush colours are going to be popular in 2014.

What can Brides Up North expect when they use your service?

Original, unique designs made by someone who is passionate about each piece.

What is your current favourite piece and why?

It’s very difficult to choose one but I do love my side headband called Holly in my new Gatsby range.  I love it because it’s a beautiful, sparkly, elegant nod to the 1920’s.

Tell us about your bespoke service?

Our bespoke service allows brides to have a piece made specifically for them.  It can be an amendment to one of my designs, combining aspects of different designs that you like or having something made completely from scratch for you.

Holly Edwards for Irene & Ozzie

Can brides incorporate their sentimental jewellery into a piece?

Absolutely. It’s actually one of the most rewarding parts of designing.  A bride will send me a piece of jewellery that means something to her and I will use the components in her unique piece.  This can be pretty much anything but I find strings of pearls or brooches are the most common items I am asked to use.  For me it’s very moving to think that the bride is going to be walking down the aisle wearing something that belonged to their loved one.

Holly Edwards for Irene & Ozzie

Tell us about your tattoo covering designs?

I find that more and more women are looking for a pretty, unique way to cover up tattoos for their wedding day. Makeup can smudge and come off and doesn’t always look natural.   I work with the bride to produce a piece that will cover the tattoo and match the dress perfectly. My most common piece is an armband to cover the upper arm tattoo.

Real Wedding Recap 2012: Very Bonnie In Scotland! A Real Wedding At Loch Lomond – Alina & Michael

December 31st, 2012 | Julia Braime

.

Over the festive period I’ll be recapping some of my very favourite Real Weddings from the last 12 months on the wedding blog. It’s been a tough choice! In true Brides Up North style, each wedding featured on these pages is unique, beautiful and gorgeously personal. It’s been an exceptionally fabulous year! Enjoy…

.

A Wedding at Ross Priory by Mick Cookson Photography

.

.

What better way to see the New Year in that with a proper Scottish celebration?  Hogmany, here we come…

.

As a , trust me, I see a lot of gorgeous wedding dresses on a daily basis.  Consequently, I adore my job.  The downside?  It’s sometimes difficult not to have “dress regret” and wish that I had chosen a particular new style or other for my own wedding, but generally I stay true to my own taste whilst admiring other girl’s choices.  However, today’s Real Wedding sent to me by Mick Cookson Photography and real bride Alina made that particularly difficult for me, as I am simply in love with Alina’s wedding dress.  Hook, line and sinker.

.

For a girl who didn’t want a wedding gown at all, she has absolutely nailed it!  And, come to mention it,  the rest of her beautiful wedding to Michael at Ross Priory near Loch Lomond…

.

.

Alina says:  We got engaged on New Years Eve (2011) at my parents’ house. I was in the shower after a long day at work getting ready to have a nice meal with my family. I was feeling full of cold so felt a bit sorry for myself. Michael was in the bathroom too, keeping me company. We were chatting about our day when he said he had a surprise for me. When I leaned out of the shower curtain he was down on one knee. As I wear glasses I thought he was joking and told him to bugger off. I quickly realised he wasn’t joking and jumped out of the shower into his arms whilst giving out a yelp. I ran downstairs to my parents in a towel and shower cap where they were waiting for us with Champagne at the ready. They knew weeks in advance it was coming. Michael knows I’m not a huge romantic and I would have hated a big gesture so the proposal was simply perfect for me as it was completely hilarious and very us.

We got married on 20th April 2012 at a little church in Scotland called Kilmarnock Church near Loch Lomond. The reception was held at a place called Ross Priory on the banks of Loch Lomond.  Michael always wanted to get married in Scotland due to the beautiful scenery up there. We also liked the idea of a small wedding and making a trip out of the whole thing. Michael’s mum went for lunch at Ross Priory and showed some us some photographs of the place, I instantly asked if they do weddings there…the rest is history!

Our theme for the day was England meets Ukraine (I’m originally from the Ukraine and moved to England as a child for my father’s job) Our cake toppers were a Queen’s guard and a girl in traditional Ukrainian outfit and our invitations and order of service also had a logo of the Ukrainian and English flags. We also served vodka at the tables as well as wine and Champagne

Originally I didn’t want to wear a white/ivory dress as I’m not a girly girl and all I wanted to do was elope to Las Vegas but with gentle persuasion from my Mum I decided to get my dress made. I had trouble finding what I wanted as I don’t like frills, flowers, diamantes or anything too girly. So when I saw a pic of my dress I knew it was the one.  It was ivory and a sweet heart shape cut that was fitted to my hips and then slightly went out at the bottom with a small train. I then had a lace top that went over the top of it. The dress turned out to be perfect and had a great vintage look to it. I forgot about Vegas instantly. I also had a second dress for the evening which was exactly the same but only went down to my knee so I could dance the night away!

.

I carried a bouquet of dark purple double headed lizianthus with purple hydrangea, ocean song rose and purple freesias.

My three bridesmaids wore lovely grey greek style dresses from Phase Eight with purple pashminas and the guys wore suits by Moss Hire.

The Church service was my favourite part of the day as it was quite emotional and our vows really rang true to me and Michael and to what we have been planning for a long time.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be don’t stress as you’ll miss out on the really great things that are happening around you. Both me and Michael were very calm and the whole day was absolutely magical and we can remember every detail.

The softest chiffon florals, intricate yet delicate beadwork and romantic sheer edging whisper the arrival of Blush, the third collection from vintage inspired bridal accessories designer, Silver Sixpence in her Shoe.

.

Each beautifully hand-crafted accessory nods to the elegance of decades past and yet is the definition of modern bridal adornment, as much inspired by designer Nicola Wellard’s recent travels in Europe and beyond as they are by the romance of a bygone era.

Online Treasure Trove: Supplier Showcase – Euphoria Boutique

July 7th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Euphoria’s online boutique is like Cinderella’s dressing up box, full of twinkly things, bejewelled shoes and pretty bridal accessories.  This wedding blogger could get lost for hours.  Before I dive in, lets chat to the founder of Euphoria Boutique, Teneale, about her online treasure trove.

.

.

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Euphoria Boutique

.

.

How did Euphoria Boutique begin? What is your story?

.
My previous background in business administration and quality/contracts management in the public sector has given me a whole host of skills to utilise in my business today, from business planning to money and service management. Being a creative and busy mum of three young children, my priorities changed and my children needed me at home more. I left after 10 years of service to set up Euphoria, working around nursery, nap time and school. It hasn’t been easy but I have enjoyed every minute of building Euphoria Boutique to what it has become today. “Euphoria” symbolised the happy transition in my life.

.

.

.

.

What jewellery products and bridal accessories are available from Euphoria Boutique?

.

A wide range of bridal headwear, dyeable wedding shoes, jewellery and bridal party accessories. We are accessory specialists, so we leave the gown to the bridal shops! Along with our own Euphoria brand we are also stockist to many major designers and brands. We offer our customers a wide choice of products with a good range of prices. We will help brides stay within their budget and offer any advice necessary. We want all our customers to have a positive and memorable experience with us.

.

.

Do you design and make any of the jewellery or bridal accessories on your site?

.

We have our own Euphoria brand, in which I create many of the designs and have two designers working with us for our bespoke service. We also have the facility to crystalize and customise shoes and can even put your wedding date on the sole of your shoes! We also sell some manufactured pieces to enable us to cover all budgets but the majority of wedding accessories are handmade.

.

.

hp 4630 0010

.

.

Which Euphoria product is your favourite and why?

.

I am in love with the Fable dreams handmade wedding hair accessories – Hollywood meets fairytale. She is a very talented designer and a pleasure to work with. Also new to Euphoria Boutique we have launched “Weddington” boots, perfect for good old british weather, winter weddings and outdoor weddings. They are brilliant for the whole wedding party and make fantastic quirky photos.

.

.

Euphoria 1

.

.

Can you create bespoke bridal accessories?

.

Yes we can. We offer free consultations and advise our brides on the best way to make their dream a reality. We work with all materials, crystals and fabrics and have no boundaries when it comes to design. We are currently in the process of designing some green polka dot wedding shoes for a bride having a vintage wedding tea party.

.

.

Euphoria 7

.

.

What celebrity would you like to see in a Euphoria product and why?

.

I would loved to have seen Kate Moss wearing the Weddington Boots for her three day festival wedding in July! I also think she would look fabulous in some of our bohemian floral wedding headwear with birdcage veil.

.

.

Euphoria 6

.

.

Which products are your best sellers?

.

With the current wedding hair updo, our bun wrap is extremely popular. Adorned with crystals and pearls, this wedding hair accessory is so versatile and flexible as it can be worn as either as a tiara or bun wrap. It’s beautiful and only £75. We have also seen an increase in demand for gold wedding jewellery and accessories this season. Our vintage wedding jewellery set is very popular at the minute. It also has a matching tiara. The whole set including tiara can be purchased for £150 and is also available on a silver finish. Our wedding dress sashes have had quite a lot of publicity this last month and have also featured in bridal magazines. There are many designs available and brides may customise their own design. From Grecian, vintage to art deco designs.

.

.

Euphoria perfect wedding magazine

.

.

Can you buy all your products online?

.

Yes, but as well as purchasing online, our clients may also visit us by appointment, in our boutique in Silver Street, Stockton on Tees. Quite often local brides pick their wedding accessories online then come into the boutique to see if they look right with their dress and colour scheme. We will also do home appointments and bridal evenings upon request.

.

.

Euphoria 9

.

.

Are you married? What Euphoria Boutique products would you choose for your own wedding day?

.

I would love to have got married overseas on a Caribbean island. I would have loved a beach wedding, Grecian style chiffon dress, sun-kissed tan and floral accessories. Possibly wedding flip flops and one of our handmade wedding dress sashes.  In the evening I would wear the Benjamin Adams Swarovski crystal Electra shoes as they are so glamorous and lots of sparkle.

.

.

Euphoria 3

.

.

What Euphoria Boutique products would you recommend for a Bride on a budget?

.

I would recommend one of our wedding combs. They start at £35 and are beautiful. I particularly love the ivory pearl and crystal comb for £35. It is very light therefore versatile for different hair types and hairstyles. They are also popular for bridesmaids.

.

.

Euphoria WC03

.

.

What pieces would you recommend as bridesmaid’s gifts?

.

I think the wedding wellies are a brilliant idea. Especially as they can be worn after the wedding (especially in this typical British Weather). Our Swarovski crystal teardrop wedding jewellery set is priced at £38. This set comes beautifully wrapped with a personalised message card. It is also available in a range of different colours, chain lengths and clip or pierced ears.

Sparkle & Shine: Supplier Showcase: By Gina Jewellery

June 10th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

The lovely Gina of By Gina Jewellery has become of friend of mine via Twitter and later in real life.  She is a little ray of sunshine: bright, bubbly and boy, does she create some beautiful wedding jewellery!

.

I’m like a kid in a sweet shop today as Gina showcases some of her gorgeous creations and tells Brides Up North all about By Gina Jewellery.

.

.

How did By Gina Jewellery begin? What is your story?

.

I worked as an event planner in hotels for too many years and missed working in the wedding industry after I left – a big surprise to me! I decided I’d like to continue to work with weddings but didn’t want the unsocial hours that come with the hotel industry. It was a drunken idea in a pizza shop that started me thinking that I could run my own business (but isn’t that where all the best plans start?). I started with wedding stationery thinking how easy it would be to make and how wrong I was! With lots of practice and shouting at inanimate objects, I had created a range of stationery I was happy with but I didn’t stop there. If I could make stationery, then surely I could make jewellery, and you know what…I can! That was 5 years ago now and I have no idea how so much time has passed!

.

What jewellery products/ bridal accessories are available from By Gina Jewellery?

.

I have a range of tiaras, hair bands, necklaces, bracelets and earrings on the site at the moment but I am in the process of adding birdcage veils, garters and fascinators. At the moment my range is small but it is growing all the time. I aim to have a wide selection of styles, materials and prices so that no matter what a bride is looking for I should have something to suit.

.

.

Do you design and make all the jewellery on your site?

.

I did, but I’m very excited to have some very talented UK designers coming on board. They are designing and making new pieces that will feature on my site and a lot of them will be exclusive to By Gina Jewellery. I’m doing this to expand the selection I have on the site for brides, but also to showcase what amazing handmade items there are out there. A lot of the designers don’t have their own websites and sell through Etsy or Folksy so I thought how amazing it would be to be able to showcase their work on my site too.

.

Which piece is your favourite and why?

.

Ooooh…that is a tough one! I love all my designs, they wouldn’t be on the website if I wasn’t 100% happy with them! But if I had to narrow it down to just one thing…at the moment it would have to be the Daisy Hair band (below). It’s just so simple, but yet sparkly. But, by the time this goes to press I will probably have changed my mind 100 times!

.

.

Can you create bespoke pieces?

.

Yes, because all the pieces are made to order they can be changed to suit the bride. Or if the bride wanted something completely different, I could sit down and discuss their ideas and come up with some sketches for a totally bespoke one off design.

.

.

What celebrity would you like to design for and why?

.

I would have loved to have designed Katy Perry’s wedding jewellery. I think a crystal tiara would have looked amazing in her dark hair! But as she’s now married, I’d like her to wear a few of my designs as she’s a bit of a style icon to a lot of people. If she rocked pearls, they would be even more fashionable!

.

What materials do you work with?

.

I mainly use Swarovski crystals and pearls with sterling silver fitments. I also use freshwater pearls in some of my designs. All the tiaras are made using silver coloured wire. I always make sure that each material is perfect before I use it….I’m too much of a perfectionist to use anything sub standard.

.

Can you buy all your designs online or do you do appointments?

.

Everyone of my designs are available on my online shop. You can choose crystal and pearl colour and lengths online too. But if a bride wanted a more individual piece they can email or call me to discuss and I can arrange an appointment to go through the design with them.

What pieces would you recommend as bridesmaid’s gifts?

.

If it was for a little girl the Mia butterfly pendant (below) is perfect! They are so cute and girly! For an older bridesmaid I would go with Acacia bracelet or necklace…they can be worn with so many outfits and look amazing!

Where do you get your inspiration from?

.

From everyday life. I see what people are wearing, what’s in magazines on the TV and ideas seem to come together. I’m not a big one for drawing designs…I like to try things. I am always putting something together to pull it apart and start again. I have a quite simple style and I like to stick to that. I would like to design some more elaborate pieces, but have to wait until I have enough time to make them perfect!

Anything else that Brides Up North should know?

.

My aim in life is to have a gorgeous boutique in Tynemouth near Newcastle upon Tyne where I live. I would love couples to be able to come in, sit down and talk through all their hopes and dreams for their wedding day in a consultation room. I also aim to have a shop front in the boutique displaying all my handmade jewellery and stationery.  I’d also love to showcase other handmade items from wedding businesses in the boutique.

Why do you read Brides Up North?

.

I love the complete randomness of the posts! One day I’m reading about a real wedding, the next dresses and the day after a supplier spotlight! It’s never the same old stuff rehashed and I never get bored! I think it also helps that I’m nosey and want to see what all the couples weddings were like!
