entertain you: laughter, games & song for a fun-filled wedding in chester – kate & anton

May 4th, 2018 | Aislinn Thompson

A Fun Filled Wedding In Chester (c) About Today Photography (29)

Today’s talented featured couple, Kate and Anton, are in the entertainment biz, which means they had a host of wonderfully talented friends to call upon to add a bit of extra-special magic to their wedding in Chester.

From a friend touring in the stage production of The Wedding Singer, who performed Grow Old With You after the cutting of the cake, to a Disney Cruise Line vocalist belting out a beautiful rendition of At Last during the ceremony, Kate and Anton ensured their celebration was punctuated with meaningful moments created by their close friends.

And, keen not to deflate their guests hopes, they took to the dancefloor to put on a couple of impressive performances of their own. Lights, camera, action…

kate says: Anton and I used to work together on the cruise ships; I was a singer and Anton was a dancer. During our contract in November 2016, my mum and stepdad were cruising with us around the Caribbean. We had planned to take them on our favourite excursion to Trafalgar Falls Waterfall on the island of Dominica, which I had completely fallen in love with during our previous contract. Little did I know, Anton had planned a distraction with my mum and, once there, he went off climbing the rocks whilst mum and I swam in a natural pool. I kept trying to get him to join us and thought it was odd that he wouldn’t jump in the water as he normally would. As mum and I got out of the water, he all of a sudden appeared from behind a rock and got down on one knee. The setting was stunning and I was so surprised they’d managed to keep it a secret!

A Fun Filled Wedding In Chester (c) About Today Photography (42)

Our wedding date was Thursday 24th August 2017. We chose to have a mid-week wedding during the summer knowing it was a bank holiday weekend. We wanted an outdoor, light feeling to our day, so the summer was the perfect time and we were super lucky with the weather. Also, having it on a Thursday luckily cut costs just a little bit.

When we were planning our wedding, we visited a Brides Up North wedding fair at Chester Grosvenor Hotel, which we really loved. It gave us a lot of ideas and it was great to meet the different suppliers. It was the first one we attended as a couple and I loved getting my ‘bride to be’ sticker!

When it came to the venue, we knew we wanted to stay in one place for the whole day and not have to worry about travel. We came across Pryors Hayes Golf Club in Chester; they were building a new event space and, when we saw the artist’s impressions, we instantly fell in love and knew it was our perfect venue. The venue gave us our dream outdoor ceremony under a pagoda surrounded by beautiful green foliage and the reception area was so beautiful and bright, with wooden beams and exposed brick walls. It was all so new that it really felt like ours. We would highly recommend the venue. Not only is it absolutely stunning but the manager, Richard, and his team did absolutely everything and more for us on the day. From start to finish, Richard was absolutely brilliant.

With regards to a theme, after seeing the venue we decided to keep things very simple and light, especially with it being during the summer. We didn’t want too much of a colour ‘pop’, so chose to go with dusky pinks and to keep the whole theme very homemade and rustic, hand-making most of the decorations, such as the signs and favours. Anton is Ukrainian, so we also incorporated this into our decoration choices and used Polaroid photographs of all the places we had travelled together as decoration and also table names.

Today’s real wedding is a light-hearted and loved-up celebration featuring an elegant colour scheme, a gingerbread-topped cake and the sweetest little flower girl we ever did see!

lucy says: We got engaged on 25th March 2015, while at Center Parcs in Whinfell. Our daughter Ruby was playing and one of her toys was the box that had the ring in. I asked what the box was and then Neil popped the question.

We set the date for 29th May 2016, as I’d always wanted to get married in May.

Our chosen venue was The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa in Chester. We had seen a few venues but fell in love with this one the moment we saw it. We loved the gardens and the general feel of the hotel. We wanted to get married where everyone could stay over and truly relax.

The wedding theme was gingerbreads! I have a Gingerbread Man teddy from Shrek, which I love, and Neil is ginger, so it seemed fitting to have this as our theme. The invitations had gingerbreads on them as did the table plan, and we even had a gingerbread bride and groom on top of the cake.

Our colour scheme was silver/grey. Mainly picked from the colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses and it worked really well with the suits and venue style.

Fly The Flag! A Vintage Gown For A Real Wedding In Chester – Carrie & Paul

June 12th, 2014 | Julia Braime

Anderson Jones Photography

This afternoon we’re invited for a summer high tea with Brides Up North reader Carrie and her husband Paul, as we celebrate their Real Wedding in Chester.  Carrie combined authentic vintage pieces with delicate decorative touches to create a pretty and personal celebration.

Carrie says:  We had a long engagement – we got engaged four years prior to the wedding – and were married on 4th August 2013 at The Doubletree Hilton in Chester.

Anderson Jones Photography

We opted for a vintage theme with lots of greys, creams and pinks, and used the venue’s beautiful brick barn which suited our styling perfectly.

I chose a column lace dress with a fishtail.  It was an authentic vintage dress altered dramatically at Melanie James Bridal in Chorlton.

I carried a bouquet of hydrangeas by Acacia of Chester.

My bridesmaids wore cream vintage style dresses from Coast and the guys wore suits, shirts and shoes were Next and ties from M&S.

My makeup artist was Laura Wisinger, with hair by Rebecca Rigby.

I chose to wear the gorgeous Benjamin Roberts ‘Fatima’ gown from Boda Bridal in Chester.  My dress had a lace bodice and a full tulle A line skirt, with a black applique waist band.

.

I carried a mixed bouquet of roses from Alison’s Pot Pourri and for a personal touch added my Nanna’s brooch on my flowers, as she and my Grandma had passed away.

My bridesmaids wore floor length silk satin gowns in gold and black from John Lewis Collection at John Lewis, and they all looked beautiful.

The guys were all suited and booted by Young’s Suit Hire at Debenhams

My favourite bit of the whole day was the car journey on the way to hotel – a quiet moment together away from the madness, as husband and wife.  Perfect!

We chose a chocolate, Victoria sponge and fruit wedding cake affixed with individual cut iced flowers, and topped with special Mr & Mrs cupcakes instead of a traditional cake topper from Janey’s Cakes in Chester.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be don’t stress about little details, no one else but you will know if they are not done.
