Spread The Love, A Real Wedding – Sarah & Tom

May 31st, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Jenny of Jenny & Keith McAvoy Wedding Photographers sent Brides Up North a corker of a Real Wedding to share with you this morning.  What really makes this set of photographs stand out to me as a wedding blogger is the people in them – whether it’s the cheeky children or the excited bride, weddings are first and foremost about people.  The one that you love, and all the ones you hold dear.

.

If that doesn’t give you a warm fuzzy feeling Brides Up North, I don’t know what will.  Enjoy.

Jenny explains:  This is Sarah and Tom from Aughton in Orskirk, where they both grew up.  The couple got married at the church of St Michael’s in Aughton, with a reception at Farrington Lodge, a Grade II listed Georgian House in Lancashire.

Fabulous Photographer: Keith & Jenny McAvoy Wedding Photographers

May 16th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

I featured a gorgeous Real Wedding from Brides Up North Featured Supplier, Jenny & Keith McAvoy Wedding Photographers, yesterday evening on the blog.  Scroll down to check it out.  This morning, we go behind the photographs as Brides Up North chats to Jenny McAvoy to find out more about this successful husband and wife team.

How did you get into wedding photography?

.
I have always had an interest in photography – my dad always had the latest camera equipment and books and I was encouraged to take photos from an early age. That passion increased when our first daughter Olivia was born in 2001. We photographed her every movement and began to slowly move into portrait and wedding photography. We are constantly training and were part of Damien Lovegrove’s prestigious Evolve 2 photography training programme for 18 months and have also trained with Chris Hanley and Jo De Banzie.

.
Why wedding photography specifically?
.

It’s such a happy job. It really is a privilege to be involved in such fabulously special days. Every one is unique and gorgeous – from the smallest intimate wedding to the grandest day. To be able to contribute
to such a happy occasion is wonderful.

.
What is your favourite thing about being a wedding photographer?

.
The whole process from meeting a bride and groom for the first time, seeing a shy bride blossom into a confident diva, right through to the day and the viewing when a couple see their images for the first
time – magic!

.

.

.

.
How do you get couples to relax on the day?

.
We like to meet our couples at least 3 or 4 times before a wedding, for discussions about package choice, engagement shoot, maybe meeting at their venue, or attending rehearsals and all of these meetings are part of the process of getting to know each other. For us we get to know who is shy, who is a poser, what they are like as a couple – are they jokey or lovey dovey? This allows us to capture them as they truly are. For the couple it is a chance to see how we work, to get used to being photographed, get to know us and feel comfortable with us so that by their wedding day they are not concerned about photography at all. In addition, we are around all day on a wedding day and as there are two of us we are often seen smoothing ruffled feathers, handing out champagne, buttoning up dresses when bridesmaids are shaking too much, delivering buttonholes to forgetful grooms and generally getting stuck in and documenting every moment :-)

.

.

.
Any advice to any brides who don’t like to have their picture taken?

.
Do have an engagement shoot. I am one of those people who hates having their picture taken – Keith on the other hand is a complete poser! The engagement shoot is a great way of dispelling those nerves and seeing the results of a professional photo session in a relaxed, fun environment is always a good way to feel better about having your picture taken. We have had brides who really dread the engagement shoot
but end up loving it and even better adore the results. Brides have cried at a viewing, saying they have never seen photos of themselves they like and that they love every one of ours. That is a fabulous feeling for us and the perfect aim of an engagement shoot. Also we are never going to make you do anything you are uncomfortable with. If you are naturally shy we work with that (90% of the time you won’t even be aware of having your photo taken and the rest of the time we will be gentle – promise :-) )If you are a poser-we will embrace that with gusto!

.
What sort of makeup should a bride wear to look great in her pictures?

.

Whatever you are comfortable with. I always say you should just be a polished version of yourself.

.
Anything to avoid which might look bad in the wedding pictures?

.
We would never inflict our opinions on a bride’s style. We are there to document their day as they dreamt of it. Personally I love a colourful wedding and something to note – if you wear dangly bits of hair down at
the side of you face on your wedding day, you will potentially obscure your face on a lot of images so bear this in mind.

.

.
Which celebrity wedding would you most like to photograph and why?

.
Kate Hudson and Matthew Bellamy of Muse. Love Muse and the music and guests at that wedding would be FAB!

.

.
What is your "must have" shot at any wedding?

.

I love the first time a bride and groom see each other at the ceremony – it still brings tear to my eye.

.

.

McAvoy Weddings

.

.
Any memorable weddings that you have captured?

.
Every wedding is so unique – two really contrasting weddings I loved were Jane & Chris’ Beeston Manor wedding (on Brides Up North yesterday) where they had so many personal touches and gave us a bottle of home made sloe gin, and Nichola and Michael’s fabulously grand Coombe Abbey wedding, where the whole of the North West travelled to Coventry for a very opulent wedding (coming soon!).

Are you married?  Tell us about your day…

.

Keith & I are married to each other. Our wedding pics are awful – it was 15 years ago and things have moved on a lot in photography since then. I don’t even know where our wedding album is – Keith has hidden it away. Our daughters are desperate to see it for a laugh so will have to persuade him to dig it out… We both have huge families – Keith has 10 brothers and sisters and I have a million auntie and uncles scattered across the country and further afield so it was a real party wedding, with 120 to the wedding breakfast and 300 evening guests. It wasn’t a posh do at all – the ceremony was at Keith’s family church, the reception was at the local rugby club where Keith’s brother played professionally so we got a
nice cheap deal :-) Our aim was to make sure everyone had a ball so good music and relatively cheap alcohol was our priority.  My two regrets are the rubbish photographer and very uncomfortable shoes-which were kicked off as soon as the disco started.

.

.
What was your favourite wedding moment?

.
One of my favourite wedding moments was Christmas last year. We had a fabulously clear crisp winter’s day, a wonderfully friendly wedding full of joy and partying and then it began to snow heavily. Everyone was
outside for some gorgeous snowy pictures. We had the bride and groom in the middle of a busy roundabout where the village Christmas tree was situated with everyone beeping their congratulations to them and snow cascading down. It was a brilliant memory for us and them.

.

.
What sets you apart from other wedding photographers?

.
We are relaxed and laid back but work extremely hard to look that way! Our photography is a gorgeous blend of fashion inspired images and lighting techniques and wonderful unguarded, off beat moments.

.

.

.

.
What can a couple who book you expect on the day?

.
100% commitment to making your wedding photography spectacular and to do everything in our power to enhance your magical day. We are there for as long as you like. We can offer advice if wanted, blend into the background when required, take you away for a breather when you need it and then present beautiful timeless images for you to treasure forever.

.

.

.

You Can Stand Under My Umberella, A Real Wedding – Jane & Chris

May 15th, 2011 | Julia Braime

.

Jenny from brand spanking new Brides Up North Featured Supplier, Jenny & Keith McAvoy Wedding Photographers sent me this glorious Real Wedding to feature on the blog this afternoon.

.

I love all the perfect little details in this set of pictures that are brimming with newly wedded excitement!

.

Jenny explains: This is Jane and Chris who had a purple and white themed wedding with lots of hand made touches, including all the stationery, table decorations and even the home brewed sloe gin and jars of jam as that they gave away as favours.  The couple were married at St Peters Church, Belmont, with a reception at Beeston Manor.

.

The vintage style bouquets were made  from Jane’s mum’s wedding dress, bridesmaids dresses and contained family jewellery.

.

The day was full of personal touches, including the very musical groom surprising his new bride by taking a turn with the band in the evening.
