I’ve something extra specially sparkly, snowy and gorgeous for you this afternoon. After enduring weeks of grizzle, grey and slush, I think it’s time we fell back in love with the white stuff… because brides really should love white, now, shouldn’t they?! This pretty and impromptu styled shoot comes to you courtesy of friend of the wedding blog, Abi, of Wooden Hill Images, and I’m so excited to share the loveliness with you.

Abi says: Being a natural light photographer, the outdoors fascinate me. In January whist watching the weather forecast and seeing what was forecast to be the last of the snow, inspiration hit!

The inspiration behind much of my editing comes from both literary classics and the way a photograph can make you feel. With more and more brides getting married in winter, I thought about the visions of Narnia and snow filled fields and the beauty of wintry ‘costume’. I called on my good friend Jane from Wedding and Events Floral Design and we decided to seize the moment. We had 48 hours!

Jane contacted and arranged the use of Howebridge Wedding Venue in Sowerby, Thirsk, utilizing the gardens and field. Brides and Belles, Northallerton so generously offered the use of any of their dresses that fitted our brief and local models were found who would brave the elements! Claire Taylor of the Cake Fairy Company expressed interest in joining us and so we began to draw up a vision of different Snow Queens.
.
On the morning of the shoot, it had snowed harder than anticipated so we had to swap venues as Howebridge was unreachable. Wedding Events and Floral Design offered the use of their gardens and field. With only two models able to get to the shoot, we called on their ability to become all the different Snow Queens that we had envisioned.

With oceans of humour and huge dollop of giddy excitement, our first Snow Queen, Georgia was born. Her world is outdoors, the juxtaposition of interior living, outside. She reads romance, wrapped in luxurious fur, in quiet simplicity. In contrast Olivia, is a Queen with stylish authority, a billowing bridal gown and a superior air about her. Bo, a pretty, playful bride with a love of Nordic worlds and with a bejewelled bouquet of brooches and trinkets has an inner smile. Cordelia (my personal favourite) has an ethereal, frosted quality, from a medieval land her Bridal coat and natural circlet in her hair, encapsulating all things rustic.
.
Unfortunately, as we progressed through the shoot the snow was thawing incredibly fast so we were working to huge time restraints. The cake had to retire inside for fear of being ruined and Snow Queen ‘Katarina’ hasn’t even made the final cut because the snow thawed all over her dress and hair!

We wanted to use these photographs to inspire other brides. When planning your wedding, think who you would like to draw inspiration from – a book, a character, a season, nature. Play, think of individual ideas to make your wedding your own and unique.
