I went to school with Katie-Jane and we bumped into each other at the recent Hardwick Hall Hotel wedding fair. Entirely by coincidence, I had already been chatting to her wonderful photographer, Sean Elliott Photography, about featuring a cool Brooklyn engagement shoot that he had done for a County Durham bride. It turns out it was Katie-Jane and her husband to be Dan all along!

Over to Katie-Jane: Well where do I start…Dan is from NYC he owns a Internet marketing company
and is a musician in rock band ‘Right on Dynamite’. I am from Crook, but I now live and work in New York as a Design Director for a major Fashion label.

We met in 2005 and he proposed on our 4 year anniversary on Sullivan Street in New York’s Soho with an amazing backdrop of the Empire State Building. It was a hot humid June evening so we went to the closest bar for a shot of whisky then I called Mum and Dad… I wanted them to be the first to know, they were VERY pleased but not very pleased that I called them at 3am UK time!

Our pre wedding shots were taken by Sean who was in New York, we did them in our neighbourhood – Greenpoint which is in Brooklyn. Its an old industrial area with a great young creative community. The sunsets are fab as you can see from the pictures.

We are getting married this August in County Durham, the wedding will be laid back country rustic with boho styling but very British! We are very happy as lots of our friends and Dan’s family are travelling from all over the world to help us celebrate!

Its been a challenge planning a wedding in under a year in a different country but thanks to my Mum we are getting there, she is my ‘Franc’ – just like from Father of The Bride!

My bespoke dress is being made here in NYC and I will bring it over with me. My bridesmaids are all wearing different dresses in different shades of one colour story to match their very different personalities!
