I could tell an untruth and say that if I won I’d give my wedding dress fund to a home for orphans but, in truth, my wedding dress fund probably wouldn’t stretch very far.

I’m looking at a couple of hundred pounds as my budget (although you could buy an awful lot of Haribo for that, to be fair!) and I don’t mind at all – I’m happy to be getting married to my best friend and you can buy a perfectly pretty dress for that amount of money.

If I won this competition, however, I could have a WOW dress and lets face it we’d all secretly like a WOW dress.

The chance to be pampered would be nice too. I (like a lot of women, I know) have self esteem issues coming out of my ears and I’m kind of dreading the dress shopping part but the people at The Harrogate Wedding Lounge sound determined to make each bride feel special and they don’t sound at all scary.

My essay about why I should win, summerise: think of the Orphans and their Haribo.

Okie doke, well rubbish as I am at these things, here’s a try, cause you gotta be in it to win it, right?

Okay well I am getting married in 8 months and 29 days to my soulmate, Myke, and we really want to have a wedding to remember, that we won’t be paying for for the rest of our marriage. As such, we are having a different and quirky wedding ( we are going bowling instead of the breakfast as this is where we met!) Other things are still having to take a budget drop though, so if I was to win, I could have the dream dress as well as the dream guy!

So this is my attempt at winning, and well done to whoever gets it. I guess I’ve already been lucky enough to meet Myke, but I figured I may get lucky again! xx

I first met Tony in the summer of 1984 and we fell in love and got engaged. I was a student at the time and my parents thought we were too young to wed, so sadly we bowed to pressure and shortly after the relationship ended.

In the years that followed we both married and coincidentally both lost our partners to cancer.

26 years later – April last year – Tony tracked me down via Facebook. We met, fell in love all over again and are now going to be get married in April 2012.

You have to admit this is an amazing story, so I think we deserve an amazing wedding. Thank you xx

I would love to win a beautiful wedding dress and accessories! Having been engaged for 7 years now… It is time to finally get married. Since getting engaged we have had 2 lovely little girls 33 mths & 17 mths, which has hindered any wedding plans. I had to give up work as I couldn’t commute and look after girls properly… so wedding was put on hold even further. Winning this prize would mean the world to us and we can finally tie the knot and join the family as one 🙂

I’m planning our wedding on a shoestring budget. Its not about having the best party, its about marrying your best friend. But our families have to travel a long way to get here so I want to be able to show them some excellent hospitality. Not having to spend money on a dress means I can afford to have a nice dinner instead of finger foods.

My H2b and I met at university, and have spent our entire relationship living off a measly student budget trying to make ends meet. As we plan to get married, I have been given the opportunity to carry on studying for my PhD – something which means it was a choice between earning, or studying for a better future together. We chose to plan for the future, which means we’ll be living off beans on toast for another three years!
To not have to worry about scraping together the money for a gown of my dreams would be amazing.

I feel like I shouldn’t really enter as we have not told anyone about our engagement yet, but to win a wedding dress would give us a great excuse to shout about it. It would be the first and most exciting step towards our big day. It would be amazing. Maybe I could treat you to a boudoir photoshoot as thanks or is that cheating!! Pick me!

Wow what a fantastic competition! Brides Up North and Harrogate Wedding Lounge your spoiling us yet again! I would love to win this competition as to be honest I find dress shopping a bit intimidating, I am a nervous bride! My dress (and general wedding) have changed more times then what Ive had hot dinners. I havent got a clue what shape and style would suit me and I think I need a fab team to point me in the right direction or I’ll be in real danger of looking like an 80’s throw-back or indeed something to rival my big fat gypsy wedding.

If I won this competition I wouldn’t keep the dress. I would give the opportunity to one of my closest and oldest friends in the world called Katie. She had planned her wedding but put it on hold because her Dad had a terrible stroke. Afterwards he was incoherant and needed constant care so had to go into a care home hospital to live. Three weeks ago her Dad passed away. Wining this competition would give Katie something to smile about and give her something to look forward too, instead of all the doom and gloom she has had over the last two years. She would be over the moon and I would just love to see the look on her face if she had found out she had won. X

My wonderful bridesmaid pointed out this site and this competition to me and I had to submit a comment. As with everyone, our wedding budget is tight, so to win this competition would make the world of difference to making our special day extra special. I have found that with every click of the mouse, with every guest consideration and with the emergence of aaaaaall the other little things, you never even thought you would have to think about, that dream dress moves further out of grasp. To be able to surprise my fiance with a beautiful dress picked out by the pros (and alleviate some pressure in that pesky wedding budget!) would mean the world to me .. and I’m sure to him! Loving the website BTW, it is my newest addition to the wedding folder 🙂

Wow, what an extraordinary competition. Whoever wins this is one very lucky bride!! *fingers crossed it’s me :)*
We have had to move our wedding forward so our savings have now been well and truly messed about, we have less than 11 months instead of 23 months until our big day. Everyone has a dream dress in their mind, and even with working 55 hours during a normal Monday-Friday job, and taken on a weekend job too, I don’t think I will be able to afford my dream dress. My dad is a single parent so asking him is out of the question. Although at the end of the day I am marrying my best friend of 5 years and I’d happily do it in a black bin bag, but a gorgeous White dress would look so much better in the pics!

With a little bit of luck and positive energy, having the wedding dress of my dreams would be the icing on our wedding cupcake after all my wonderful fiance’ and I have had to endure over the last year.

This part of our love story began with a magical engagement in Milan on New Years Eve and we started planning our wedding for this September, however since then an avalanche of circumstances has since conspired against us. My fiance’s father has had a heart operation and been diagnosed with cancer followed by both of us being made redundant within a month of each other this Spring.
Planning a wedding over the last few months has been especially hard at times when it should be a fun, exciting time with friends and family to enjoy. We are both very tired right now but still manage to find the energy to be thankful of our enduring love and continue to plan the wedding for next year supported by a couple of excited children eager to discuss wedding attire and arrangements.
2011 was supposed to be our year as we tried to forget such highlights from 2010 as our car being stolen and having to move rental accommodation six times. So a fairytale wedding dress could well be the magical piece to bringing us the luck that family say we so deserve and help be the catalyst to an incredible future together.

Here’s to 2012 starting with that wedding of ours!!

WHY WOULD I LIKE TO WIN THIS COMPETITION??……Well I would love too, so my wonderful fiancee could have the wedding dress of her dreams it would be a dream come true for my fiancee and myself….I have recently been in hospital and very ill and there was nothing my partner wouldn’t do to help…she put up with my twisting and my long waking nights in pain where she had to get up and go to work the next day. She had to do nearly everything for me I cant thank her enough and now I am still off work and we are planning a civil partnership on one wage. After everything we have been through to win this competition would be amazing and to see the look on my partners face would make me the happiest girl in the world. 🙂

When Dave proposed I have to say
It was the most exciting day
A wedding day with flowers and cake
    Arrangements I began to make
    Inspiration was in need
If all these guests we were to feed!

    After scouring all the shops
We found the place that was the tops
The perfect dress- it was supreme
But how could we concoct a scheme
To buy this vision of delight-
We thought and thought with all our might.

    And then your competition popped
One morning through our letter box
‘They have the answer’ we declared
And then a glass of wine we shared
    “The Wedding Lounge” we celebrate
    A bridal nirvana in Harrogate!

My partner and I have been putting off getting married for years due to the cost. We finally have set a date for September 2013, as we will be going back to my favourite family holiday destination, Florida. We’ve decided this would be the cheapest option available. To take one day out of our holiday and get married.
Cost is always a huge aspect of any wedding. But being able to have a proper wedding dress would be a dream come true. 🙂

Our dream to become parents have been put on hold due to my partner discovering she had a demoid cyst on her ovary, when we went for our first fertility appointment. To add to our disappointment she suffered many complications from her operation to remove the cyst and ovary. She is now on her way to recovery and feeling more positive now we are planning our civil partnership together. Winning this competition would make all her dreams come true.

Hi, well I have just started planning my wedding and have been to try wedding dresses on once. We are trying to plan the wedding on a budget but it seems I was a little nieve as to much a wedding dress costs :-(. I wanted a WOW Princess type dress but it seems they are alot of monay. My other half says I can have what I want, which is great but in reality we don’t have alot of money! So to win this would be amazing!!!
I know no matter what I wear it will be the best day of my life as I am marrying the most perfect person for me but I would love to look and feel amazing while doing it!!

Good Luck Everyone with the competition and your weddings!!! x

To be in with a chance to win this prize is fantastic, being from harrogate myself and going roubd the shops I know i can not afford to buy a dress from the shops even with 17 months until we get married it just isn’t possible to get the budget for the dress of my dreams, the wedding dress is a massive part for me as I want to feel fantastic about myself on our special day.
If you could make my dreams come true and make me feel like a princess I will be the happiest bride to be in harrogate.
Thank you for this oppertunity 🙂

Would just love to win this – so short of money :o( unable to work due to disability and my other half working self-employed but only making enough to draw petrol money each week. We’ve been talking about just booking the registry office but he wants to do it properly to share how much we love each other – I’d also love to hold a handfasting ceremony – as a pagan the outdoors and nature very important to me and a dreamy dress would be fantastic! We’re both Yorkies which I believe makes us from ‘up North’ – so please consider us for this :o)

I would love to win this dress for my sister. She gets married next may but is expecting a baby in 3 weeks. She has had no time to think about herself with a 2 year old also to look after. As chief bridesmaid she have helped her so much with the planning and she justs loves all the ideas I have inspired her with so far. I’m a graphic designer so I’ve been designing all her stationery for weeks. I am hand making her bouquet from material and buttons and her centre pieces, favours will all be hand made based around her champagne themed wedding I designed her. Her and her fiancé have had champagne Saturday’s (or a fizzy equivalent) since their first was born as they don’t get to go out as often so I thought this would be a perfect theme for their day.

With their 2nd baby almost due her budget is really quite small for her dress and this is really one thing I can’t offer to make her!! I would love her to have a gorgeous dress to match her beautiful day and would just love to tell her she has won a dream dress.

Thank you so much for putting this competition out there. There is going to be one hell of a happy bride xxxx

I don’t know how to tell you how much your wedding blog has helped me! I am marrying the most incredible man I have ever met, in Alnwick, but have never been. I am a Canadian bride getting married “up North”!! I have always dreamed of having a stunning dress and although it really isn’t in our budget I am still hoping I will be able to pull it off somehow. I am sure there are loads of woman out there who are deserving of the dress, but I can’t help at least throwing my hat in the ring. It would mean the world to me to be able to walk down the aisle feeling as beautiful as he makes me feel everyday.

Thanks again for all the help and advice.

We will be looking at our wedding photographs for the rest of our lifetimes. The dress has to be perfect, to look beautiful for an eternity. For our children, and their children. To see the love we shared on that day, and forever.

I should win the prize because by faithfully following the BUN blog my wedding budget has been blown! I am going to have a fabulous wedding but at the moment I am going to look like the before version of Cinderella and without a fairy godmother or a minor miracle I’ll be going to the ball in rags (or jeans and a jumper at the very least).

i met mark on a girly night out enjoying being young free and single, (and happy to be) that is until this really funny guy started chatting and dancing with me on the dance floor after chatting all night til 4 in the morning and him singing Drunkenly in the street along with the busker i found he was moving up north the following week.(FATE) i assumed we would meet up and probably wouldnt go any further. but the more i met up with Mark the more i liked him to the point 4 month later we were looking at houses and finally after 8 mnths moving into our own home 14 month after meeting i fell pregnant and the last 2 and ahalf year have been an emotional roller coaster being in the army marks now posted down south and me and our little boy miss my best friend and soul mate and the most fantastic super Dad anyone could ever ask for so we have brought our wedding date forward to march 2012 so are on avery tight budget!!
this is not a sob story just a request for a helping hand from the Fairy Godmothers at Brides up north and the Harrogate wedding lounge i have found my prince charming i just need a hand to make our dreams come true thankyou x x

I hopefully deserve to win this competition because I remember the exact moment I first set eyes on my hubby to be. I was playing a gig in Leeds and he was sound engineer on the night. I stumbled up the stairs of the venue carrying guitars and keyboard and saw him standing there at the top of the stairs. He quickly rushed to my assistance. despite having his leg in a cast. He was the best sound engineer we ever had! I remember happily what I was wearing on the night and I would love to remember what I wear on our wedding day as fondly. To have a stunning wedding dress would complete our rock and roll fairytale and although I know he will tell me I am beautiful no matter what I where, I would love to feel as special as he thinks I am, and he is!

I have spent my whole life thinking that I wouldn’t get married because the men I met and the men that were out there were all useless or unreliable or had broken my heart. Then I met the man who changed all that. he is the most amazing man who i can trust, laugh with, cry with and cant wait to marry. He has the most amazing 2 children and I love that we get to have this day as a family. This money would help us make the day so special and the monehy i would be spending ona dress could be spent on the things we have had to scrimp on as we are paying for the wedding and saving for a house. I am only intending to do this once and for the most amazing man i want the most amazing wedding. This would also stop me feeling guilty about him paying for half of my dress! Also i have dropped 2 dress sizes recently for the wedding and need to lose 2 more, knowing I could have my dream dress would give me that extra motivation to keep at it and know that i’m going to knock his socks off on the day. To give him a bride that looks as amazing as he is.

It’s hard to say something that hasn’t already been said before on these comments. Why would I like to win a wedding dress and accessories? We are working with an extremely limited budget and have a baby on the way – so any money that was allocated for the wedding keeps being siphoned off into the Baby Fund. I would love to be able to feel like a princess on my wedding day, and I know that having a wonderful dress will be a huge part of that. Do I deserve to win more than anyone else? Of course not – we are all deserving winners. I can only hope and pray that when the names are pulled out of the hat, fate is on my side!!!

Well, in all honesty, I would love to win because we have very little money & a super tight budget. To get the venue I wanted means that I have to compromise on the dress. I’ve been looking on ebay for the dresses made in China & will be most likely getting one of them.

I have waited for my wedding day for 9 years, I didn’t think my partner would ever want to. Now it’s going ahead I am making sure this really is the best day of my life. Winning this would make it that more special, and would be the icing on the cake 🙂

I would love to win this dress for my beautiful girlfriend. I haven’t officailly proposed yet – but I am planning to do it on a special day sometime very soon. We have discussed getting married, and I know it is something she wants to do.

I would love to propose to her, and then tell her that part of the cost is sorted. We will be on a tight budget, like most people. I am sure that by winning this dress, we would be able to celebrate our marriage so much sooner.

Having met my future husband at university we are both in a lot of debt and have been looking for ways to save on costs for our wedding. We have been engaged for almost a year now and still have over 18 months to go as we knew we would need time to save. Having both graduated we have both struggled to find work and what money we do have right now just about covers the rent and the rest of the bills.

I can also honestly say I never envisaged getting married until I met Andy and I had never been that little girl who planned their wedding and thought of every detail…until now! Now, having met Andy and getting engaged I cannot think of anything else! I have post-it notes in magazines and print puts from websites. As Andy will be in his family tartan kilt I need a dress to either out do him or be as equally stunning. We’ve had our ups and downs and we need something to go right and I know that having the perfect dress will not only be one less thing to have to worry about saving for and then purchasing but for just once to see something go our way and to be the icing on the cake!

Hi, I got engaged 3 months ago to my long term boyfriend of 8 years, we are still both at university and both work hard for both our degrees, future together and wedding.

Currently I am still at university in the north east in my last year while my fiance is working down in London doing a placement year, which makes the arrangements slightly difficult and it also means that we can’t set up home yet and arrangements are done over skype and at weekends.

We have started to plan our wedding for a year and a half’s time when we have finished university and have set up home, but are still in the arranging stages of the wedding.

I would love to win this as it would mean so much to me and also financially yes it would help, and as you have shown from the pictures they are absolutely gorgeous.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I have been reading through some of the comments on here and see a lot of brides who sound like they really deserve this prize and I feel like I cant really compete with them.

However, although I feel that they probably deserve this more than me It would be a dream come true to win such a fabulous prize.

My partner has always tried his best to be there for me and tired to give me everything I’ve ever wanted, which luckily has never been much – bless him. We have a beautiful little girl and he makes me so so happy and tries so so hard.
I ask him all the time how i can show him how much i love him and give something back kindof thing and he always says the same thing
    – seeing his beautiful and gorgeous princess walking down the isle is all he needs.

So that’s why i’d like to win, I’d like to look beautiful for him and make him smile, make him happy and proud and show him that for one day I am really like a princess. I no this may seam a little pathetic to some people but I imagining his face (and maybe even a tear or 2- lets keep that to ourselves though, as he’d probs not want me to tell people that)

All I want to make his day and therefore make my own! Seeing that look on his face as I walk down the isle is my magic moment and means the world to me.

I can’t really afford a dress right now, so at the minute, I’m going to be wearing my mums old wedding dress. Although it was nice of her to let me borrow her’s it doesn’t fit me nor is it really ‘my style’ – even my mum admitted it didn’t look very nice on me (it is pretty aweful – sorry mum), so it needs a lot of work done on it.
So instead of having to ruin my mums special dress, I’d like to have one of my own, especially one that fits and makes me not only look good but makes me feel amazing and special and can again say thank you to my partner for everything he’s ever done for me, by making his wish come true of marrying a beautiful princess.

Thank you for considering me and good luck to everyone else, in my eyes you all deserve to win and be that special princess for your day (^_^) xxx

What to say ??? I would absolutely love to receive a WOW dress, there are so many great comments above and i would like to wish all my fellow competitors the best of luck. I would like to win a WOW dress, after having a small budget and a small wedding i would simply adore a BIG dress. A poem that i love and is in my scrapbook of wedding stuff:

    Shes been dreaming
    ’bout her wedding dress
since she was a little girl..
    white with lace, and flowing,
    accents made of pearl
    Mother watches daughter
    trying on the dresses….
her daughters now a future bride
    and the older one confesses,
she sees that little girl, again..
    her eyes sparkling with joy,
    playing bride in bedroom sheets
    and dreaming ’bout a boy….
She grew up…she met a man
who swept her off her feet..
they fell in love,he proposed to her,
    and now her lifes complete…
    Daughter’s eyes are dancing, now..
    shes found the perfect fit…
    mother smiles proudly..
    This one’s surely it..
    Daughter turns to mother
    I love it-watcha think…??”
mother grins , she love it too,
then gives the girl a wink..
    And in that very moment,
    mother sees the change occur,
    standing, now,in front of her
    a woman – not a girl.

There are some very worthy winners in all of the comments that have been left. My story is no different to anyone else in one respect – one little word with big impact – budget!
My story continues though. I’m 40 next year and marrying my soul mate who has brought so much happiness in my life after some, well not so happy years! 2012 will be the most fantastic year and I know that life really does begin at 40!
I so desperately want to be gorgeous for my fiance and my family on the wedding day and more importantly, I want to feel a million dollars and have a smile bigger than Muriels!
I’ve had a weight issue all my adult life but in my quest for the perfect wedding day and look, I set myself a challenge in June to transform myself. Five months later, I’ve dropped 4 dress sizes and 4.5 stones. I have 2 sizes and stones more to go but have never wanted anything more so that I can have that dress of my dreams.
After my hard work, commitment and dedication to get the dress of my dreams, winning this fantastic competition would be be my just deserts! Fingers crossed – and mouth taped up! xx

    Ok here goes!
Thought I might as well have a go at the opportunity to win this wonderful prize although I typically never win anything…However I’m optimistic this could change all of that!! 🙂
I have no sob storey no occasions where I’ve saved the world and therefore am worthy for the prize I’m simply bride to be who is ecstatic about marrying her fiancé of 3 years, partner of 10 years and the wedding seems a perfect way to celebrate being together since the age of 16!!
Being cautious of money and spending we have a modest budget and unlike our friends our parents will not be footing the bill. Winning this prize would be fantastic and would take a lot of pressure off for our saving as well as making me feel AMAZING on the day!
    Thankyou

If I were to win it would be like all my birthdays and Christmas’ had come at once, our wedding funds are none existent at the moment and aren’t likely to change anytime soon, If I was to win then a huge chuck of my planning and budget would be taken care of and would be at least one thing less for me to worry about 🙂 xXXx

I’d known my man 4 years before the fairytale romance. We dated for a further 2 years before he proposed on the London Eye. In March, we’ll have been together 5 years and in these past 3 years of being engaged we must have planned our wedding a thousand times… In our heads. Work, life, money has all put itself in the way of setting the date, choosing the venue, finding the dress… Well actually I’ve found the dress (I’m a girl afterall AND it isn’t strapless) and he has one stipulation – all 14 Super League mascots must attend and form a guard of honour after the ceremony. My man is, afterall, the Airlie Bird – the Hull FC mascot! My only stipulation is that he cannot wear the big giant mascot suit when we finally say I do…
Thanks and good luck to all the brides to be! x

We all have the dream dress in our heads yea?.. Well my dream is to unite my family and make our day as much about that as possibe, I have children from different fathers and Its so important to me to have the day about us becomming one ‘proper’ family that I havent even allowed a budget for a dress or accessories. My children were my priorities in this day and I have made sure they are suited and booted and have left myself out, so this would be just THE best prize ever! x

Make me a princess for the day. When you’re on a budget you realise what your priorities are. My number 1 priority is saying I do and marrying my best friend of 11 years. My number 2 priority is to feel like a princess for one whole day – make my dreams come true 🙂

After 8 wonderful years with Stevn, he proposed in Tuscany on our 8th Anniversary. Now I have an issue…I have fallen in love with Italy so much I want to get married there. Cost is the biggest strain, and because I would rather spend money on having my loved ones around me I would scrafice an expensive dress – on the other hand when I walk down the aisle I want steven to remember me at my best on our wedding day in a dress I feel beautiful in. Thats the dilemma and your competition may be my solution! Steph x

I think I should we becouse I am getting married the day before my 40th birthday and the dress would be a dream come true. I have under gone 14 shoulder operations over the last 19 years with my last 1 in October which was a replacement, I have suffered with nerve damage in my hand due to the replacement so winning this dress would make me so happy. Thank you
