I’m a little busy hosting the Brides Up North Tweet Up North East right now, so I thought I would leave you with this gorgeous Scottish Real Wedding in Yorkshire, sent to me by real bride Katie and J Clitheroe Photography.

Men in kilts alert! Enjoy!

Katie says: We got engaged at the top of the London Eye in August 2010, and were married on 31st July 2011. Our wedding ceremony was at St. Mary’s Church in Riccall near York and our reception was at The Royal York Hotel, York.

We chose the venue as I had attended functions there before, the people were really helpful when we looked round and the price was really good. The grounds are just beautiful.

It was actually a very traditional wedding with a Scottish theme as the men wore kilts and I had thistles in my bouquet. Our colour scheme was purple and Modern Douglas Blue tartan.

I chose a cream lace strapless fitted dress by Maggie Sottero from Elizabeth of York. I carried a cascading bouquet of cream roses, freesias and thistles by Fulford Flowers of York.
.
My bridesmaids wore purple knee-length shift dresses from Hobbs. My younger bridesmaid wore a cream dress from John Lewis.
.
The men’s kilts were hired from Debenhams.

Rob’s father wrote the orders of service and the invitations by hand.

Our cake was a square, four-tiered cake with fruit, chocolate and plain sponge layers from Creative Icing in Selby.

The tables at the reception were named after our favourite childhood authors – we wrote an explanation under each one as to why we’d chosen it.

Myself and my sister-in-law baked gingerbread people as the wedding favours. Instead of names for place settings, we used pictures of us with the person and wrote on the back where the picture was from and why we chose it.

The speeches were excellent. The best man had a slideshow of photos of him and Rob as they have known each other since they were born which charted their friendship – it was very funny and touching.

My brother played guitar in the church as we were signing the register. At the reception, we had a disco and a live band – The International Party Doctors. I really enjoyed the evening reception as there were some people we hadn’t seen in a long time.

After the wedding, we honeymooned in Mauritius.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to enjoy yourself – it will be the best day of your life!
Be prepared for your face to hurt a lot from smiling so much!

Our wedding next month is in York and will feature many kilts! We chose York for it’s location (smack bang in the centre for everyone travelling) and because I’ve loved it since I was a child. Only thing is that I know in advance we won’t have time for pics on the wall which is a shame because these came up brilliantly.
