The official plan was to share this beautiful wedding inspiration mood board next week in it’s usual fortnightly spot, but staring forlornly out of Brides Up North HQ’s windows at the lashing rain I needed one last hurrah with summer styling before I declare the season officially over.

.

Step forward our guest blogger Katy of What Katy Did Next with her gorgeous Secret Garden mood board prepared especially for Brides Up North reader Tara following a request via Facebook.

.

The perfect adieu to Summer 2012 (a bit of a washout yeah, but totally redeemed by all the Olympic and Jubilee excitement).

Katy says:  Bride-to-be Tara gave me ‘Secret Garden’ for this week’s wedding inspiration mood board. With free reign on style and colours, I stepped outside my comfort zone with the palette for this board which features a beautiful mix of champagne, dove grey and pistachio with a flash of iris blue. The Secret Garden novel is set in the early 1900’s so i used modern influences of Victorian and Edwardian style, which isn’t to everyone’s taste but is gorgeously effective in vintage style weddings.

.
The fabulously individual Sally Lacock dress is decorated with delicately embroidered florals, beautiful draping and a lightly gathered skirt – perfect for an outdoor or barn wedding! The dress needs little or no accessories but would look fabulous with a natural flower crown and light veil. If this era of vintage isn’t your thing, keep the soft floaty fabrics but go for a more modern silhouette such as an A line gown with a sweetheart neckline. The beautiful almost ‘tea stain’ shade of the bridesmaids dresses gives the bridal party an antiqued look that compliments the very English country garden style bouquet (top left).

.
For ‘Secret Garden’ decor you can’t go wrong with plenty of florals and foliage. Even slightly decaying leaves or dried flowers would look fabulous with this theme. If you are following the book theme you could mix bare branches with fresh vibrant florals to represent the changes the garden goes through. If you do want to use props, how about tiny lanterns, wrought iron candelabras, stone plant pots or bird baths full of tea lights – everyday garden items that can be used to decorate a venue? A beautiful idea for a table plan is to use vintage or rusty keys with tags as place cards for your guests. You could hang them on a Secret Garden style wooden door and let the guests choose their own seats. I love the terrarium jar idea for centrepieces. They could even double up as favours for your guests – giving them their own little Secret Garden!

Remember: the plan is to share a new inspiration board in this time slot every other week, either compiled by myself, regular guest blogger Katy or YOU: get in touch with your own ideas and inspiration boards! We’ll be discussing our inspirations behind the images too so it’s simply going to be a whole load of lovely.

.

If you are a little less arty but in need of inspiration and still want to play along, we will also be taking requests for colour schemes and themes and making bespoke boards for my readers. Please contact me to suggest a theme or colour scheme.
