Happy Easter Brides Up North!  I hope you have some eggstra-special plans for the day… and is anyone saying I do?!

.

My day looks set to consist solely of changing nappies and scoffing mini eggs (although definitely not at the same time) so I thought that I should treat the rest of you to an altogether more refined celebration.  With a gorgeous vintage dress, blush coloured and beautifully put together DIY details, just the right amount of twinkle and clouds of fluffy gypsophila, Penny &Tim’s Real Wedding is jam packed with inspiration.  Better than chocolate eggs any day!  With images by Cassandra Lane Photography.

Penny says:  We tied the knot on 28th July 2012 at St John’s Church, High Legh, Cheshire. The reception was in our garden and the village hall next door.

We wanted a personal, relaxed theme so decorated really simply with white flowers, big white paper lanterns, white ribbons and blush coloured bridesmaids’ dresses.

I chose a vintage dress from Abigail’s Vintage Bridal in Rutland. It was a real pleasure to shop, an Aladdin’s cave of dresses (and much more interesting). We found out that my dress was made by a women’s workers union in Manhattan.

.

Tim wore a Ted Baker suit and the groomsmen chose their own suits. These are quite stylish men!

We carried simple bouquets of gypsophila, made by all the women of the family, the day before.

We travelled in a Rolls Royce that Tim travelled home from the hospital in as a new born (owned by friends of the family)!

My favourite part of the day was the ceremony. I spent so much time preparing for the rest of the event but really it’s the ceremony that counts.

We opted for classic champagne cocktails in the garden rather that a champagne reception. The garden was filled with white lanterns, candles and ribbon streamers.

We went to the Liverpool Flower Market on Edge Lane for the flowers and vases. Although it looks a bit scary all the people were really friendly and it was an adventure! They will take your order a couple of weeks in advance and then order them for you. Great if you want a huge volume.

We handmade all the stationery. The invitations were made by Tim’s Aunty Andrea. We downloaded a beautiful monogram and based everything else around it on iridescent paper with little jewels.

We used beautiful glassware hired from White House Crockery (I felt that since we were using the village hall everything inside had to be really special). My mum collected crystal decanters for us to use at the bar. The free bar (also stocked with cigars) didn’t cost much but was great!

We chose a stunning blush coloured, vintage inspired cake.

Rachel Gates, the wife of a local farmer did the food – a mezze platter, pasta and a trio of desserts.

We used Cassandra Lane Photography and she was absolutely amazing! Really relaxed and pleasant and some gorgeous pictures that I happily display – a modern take and very flattering!

In the evening we hired a local jazz band. Tim’s cousin, one of the bridesmaids, also sang!

After the wedding we honeymooned in Cannes. It was so glamorous. We plan to go back for our anniversary.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to do it however you want to. Don’t be constrained by thinking you have to do it the same as everyone else. Work within the money you have. With a bit of thought it can be done much better on less money. Enjoy planning it and get everyone involved!
