Its holiday season here on the blog, and as the team take a break until to rest and recharge for what’s set to be the biggest and best year yet at Brides Up North HQ, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding pretty.
Usual service will recommence on 2nd January 2014, but in the meantime watch out for recaps of our favourite Real Weddings in 2013. Drop in every day for the very, very prettiest wedding inspiration and if you are a Brides Up North bride, to see if your Real Wedding was one of our top picks.
We first met Laura & Rob back in 2012 when I featured their beautiful, colourful engagement shoot on the wedding blog. Fast forward a year and it’s time for their equally colourful and even more beautiful Real Wedding in Cheshire. Today’s celebration is bright, bold and very, very lovely… and is that a Vera Wang wedding dress I spot amongst those rainbow blooms?! Lucky Laura.

Laura says: Rob proposed on Christmas day 2011 at the top of a hill…my favourite view. We were married on Thursday 25th July, 2013 at Peover Golf Club, Knutsford, Cheshire.
The venue just felt so right for us – open and light, not too big or grand, lovely lawn and amazing management and catering links!
We wanted the day to be happy and carefree so there was lots of colour and a little shabby chic! Generally we had a multi coloured theme with bright flowers and different colour dresses for each bridesmaid. Rob chose his suit purely because he loved it, a blue suit with a deep red tie. We didn’t want it all to be too structured and matching, we just liked what we liked!
I usually go for the more dressed-up looks on nights out so I wanted to look really natural and just pretty. I was very lucky to be able to find an amazing Vera Wang dress that I accessorized with Jimmy Choo peep toe stilettos and a full length veil.
The bridesmaids wore different coloured dresses from Monsoon, each colour suiting them perfectly. Rob bought his suit and his groomsmen’s suits from M&S – lovely blue suits with waistcoats that had a deep red back, matching their ties.
I carried a hand tied bouquet of really bright, happy flowers, a lovely mix including roses, sweet peas and dahlias.
I was not intending on having a car but ended up getting one the week before. It was a lovely old retro one, with free champagne, bonus!
We chose a beautiful little two tiered white cake with fresh flowers. Nice and simple… with a hidden Batman underneath it as a nod to Robs man crush!
Olive Tree Catering were absolutely amazing – everyone said it was the best wedding food they had ever had!
Matt Bowen our photographer really went the extra mile to make sure we had precious photos we will love for years to come.
Our friend Charlie is a tree surgeon so we asked him to get hold of a really wide slice of a tree trunk that we used as guest book. He is going to put legs on it so we can use it as a coffee table! Robs also a huge whisky fan so we had a variety of flowers in whisky bottles instead of vases.
I was the most terrified of doing our first dance but it ended up being my most fun bit! Being flung around by Rob to “The Snake” by Al Wilson, with everyone joining in… such a fun time!
The Wedding Crashers are our friends so our evening entertainment was an easy choice! They got everyone dancing all night… especially when Rob got on stage to do the Blues Brother intro rap, thanking everyone for coming!
We were lucky enough to have a mini moon in a Tuscan villa just outside of Florence straight after the day and then a month later we went to Kalkan in Turkey to an amazing hotel with our own pool and garden! Perfect relaxation and nice way to ease back into real life!
My top tip for other Brides Up North would be that as hard as it is, make sure the day is what you and your partner want, not what friends and family think – its your day and you have your own vision, you’ll only regret it if you do something for the wrong reasons.
Congratulations Laura & Rob!
