Today on the blog we’re venturing to rural Derbyshire for a real wedding that’s elegant to a tee.

Taking place at the impressive Hassop Hall, Jessica and Ross chose not to have a set theme, instead picking a timeless colour palette and leaving the rest of the detail to the venue.

Hats off to the wedding party for their stylish and sophisticated attire – looking very swish indeed!

jessica says:

We got engaged in Las Vegas in front of the Bellagio hotel on the 15th December 2012.

We chose to marry on the 9th September 2015, as September was when we officially got together in 2007, after initially meeting in July 2007.

Our ceremony was held St James Church in Norton, because this was where I was christened and it is round the corner from my childhood home. We then had our reception at Hassop Hall in Derbyshire, which we stumbled across after searching for countryside locations.

We decided not to have a set theme as such but to make it a traditional and elegant day. Our colour scheme was purple, grey, silver and black to fit in with the feel the timeless we wanted to create.

My dress was Blue by Enzoani, which I purchased from Emily Bridal Wear in Sheffield. This was the last shop I looked in and was literally losing hope as every shop had said everything looked nice on me but nothing felt like the one. Emily was brilliant and helped me find a dress I loved by listening to what I had in mind and then suggesting a dress that included all the elements I really wanted.

Ross wore a fitted black tux from Next with a black polka dot pocket square. To make him stand out from the groomsmen, who wore the same suit but with a purple pocket square, Ross also wore a low cut waistcoat. The page boys wore tuxes from Next too, along with custom-made marvel shoes form Rip & Weave.

My lovely bridesmaids wore grey/light purple dresses with a matching hair piece while the flower girls wore beautiful ivory dresses from Next.

On the day of the wedding Ross travelled in a Rolls Royce Phantom, my bridesmaids and mum travelled in a Mercedes Viano, and me and my step dad were transported to the church in a silver Range Rover.

Our wedding photographer was Sarah from Key Reflections. She is amazing and we would recommend her in an instance. Everything we asked for she did, nothing was too much trouble and our photos turned out just as expected – beautiful.

We had our flowers from Flourish Florists, which were a mixture of pink and white roses. We used the six bridesmaids’ bouquets to decorate the top table at the reception and other areas around the room. The other table decorations and chair covers were provided by Pretty Chairs. The room looked beautiful and we would definitely recommend them to other couples.

As favours we gave our guests little make-your-own cream bird cages that we filled with vintage sweets. We also presented our flower girls and page boys with Frozen and Spiderman backpacks full of goodies, which included, Lego, colouring books and sweets.

We selected our wedding cake from Jane’s Cakes. It was a plain white five-tier design with little pearl drops and trimmed with silver and purple ribbon. It was beautiful.

For the wedding breakfast we chose smoked chicken, bacon and avocado salad served with an orange and honey dressing, followed by tomato and basil soup. Main course was a traditional beef and Yorkshire pudding roast with chipolata sausage, paisley and chateau potatoes, broccoli florets and glazed carrots. For dessert we chose small eclairs with rich chocolate sauce, followed by cheese boards, fruit baskets and coffee.

We used Hi-Life Entertainment to provide our reception music. DJ Charlie C was amazing! Everyone commented on the music saying it was the best DJ and music ever that they had ever experienced at a wedding.

Following our wedding day I would definitely recommend Hassop Hall to other brides and grooms. It’s an amazing place with everything you could imagine and more. We hired the ballroom as this part of the building is breath-taking. The staff were brilliant, nothing is too much trouble, and Helen the wedding planner, is fantastic. She was always there with anything that we needed, she was just brilliant.

Looking back we couldn’t possible pick a favourite part of the day as everything was perfect, with many guests and family saying it was the best wedding they had ever been to. It was magical – everything we had hoped for and more.

After the wedding we jetted off on honeymoon to San Francisco and then travelled further down the Californian coast to Long Beach. San Francisco was amazing and we had a great time there before moving onto Long Beach. While we had an amazing time there it is a little out of LA, so I wouldn’t really recommend this part of America to others. We did visit LA during our trip though, stopping off at Universal Studios and Disney Land California.

My top tip to other Brides Up North would be to think what you both want and make it about you. Don’t let other people influence your decision. It’s your day and you only get one!
